Jessica Nelms | The JournalOconee County emergency responders helped a female at about 3 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, when she fell into the river at Chau Ram Park and was knocked unconscious. Oconee County Emergency Services Director Scott Krein said she was playing near the water when her foot got trapped and was pushed under water by the river’s current. Krein said bystanders pulled the woman out of the water and had her lying on her side. Rescue responders placed her onto a backboard and secured her with about eight people surrounding her. The patient was moved to the other side of the river, so rescuers could evaluate her and get her to an ambulance. She was taken to Oconee Medical Center for an evaluation. Krein said she was alert and breathing when she was transported to the hospital at about 3:30 p.m. Westminster Rescue, Station 21 command staff, Station 21 responders, Oconee County Parks and Recreation and Oconee Special Rescue Team responded to the scene.
