The Fleisher/Ollman Gallery asked Will Oldham, also known as Bonnie Prince Billy, to select contemporary works that he fancies. The resulting show is Frenz, comprised of eleven different artists working nationally and internationally. The show includes works by Shary Boyle, Able Brown, Lori Damiano, Kyle Field, Jill Gallenstein, Sammy Harkham, Alan Licht, Ashley Macomber, Joanne Oldham, Leslie Shows and Spencer Sweeney. Mikael Kennedy has the life. No doubt he works for it, but his photographs of stunning scenery and breathtaking vistas suggest the idle ways of an epic journeyman. Catch some of them this Thursday, when The Wine Dark Sea opens at Brooklyn's Melanie Flood Projects. In addition to exhibiting coastline photographs taken between 2006 and 2009, Kennedy recreates the walls of his home on the walls of the gallery, showing bits and bobs—crystals, feathers, bones, you know the normal stuff—he's collected on his travels.
