Honey Lamb is trying to deal with the demise of her marriage and the role she played to have her husband, Mason, walk away. Depression is taking over; even though she functions at work and at home, she finds herself constantly crying and thinking about Mason and how great he was to her, how he treated her with the utmost respect and love that a man can show a woman. But the fact remains...how could she do the unthinkable to the man that she adores and loves beyond measure?

Honey's landlord, Ms. Sadie has taking a liking to Honey, so much so that Ms. Sadie is always checking on her and letting her know that she is there for Honey anytime if she needs to talk. Ms. Sadie knows that with a little guidance and if Honey can open her heart to God, she can let the sins of her past go. But she can only do this if she asks for forgiveness from God and opens her heart to the greater things God has in store for her.

The Blood Done Signed My Name by M. Ann Ricks was a beautifully written Christian fiction novel filled with many scriptures from the Bible. Aside from being unclear on the timeframe of certain events, the "betrayal" was never revealed until about 30 pages from the end. Although I was able to figure out what the "betrayal" was from reading between the lines, there was no huge twist that should have made that revelation so long into the story. Aside from that, I would say all-in-all, this was a good book that is an eye opener for anyone that has issues with letting go of their troubled past.

Joseph Miller was a budding basketball player. He came from a loving two parent family, and has an older brother named Monterey. Not only were the two of them brothers, but they were also best friends. One afternoon, the Miller household becomes ripped to the core when they are notified that young Joseph Miller is murdered. The police have no idea who the killer(s) were or why someone would want to murder such an innocent young man that had such a bright future.

As time goes by, the Miller family slowly comes undone. Monterey feels guilt ridden for not being there for his brother and is hellbent on exacting revenge. The father, Jonathan, is tired of calling the police department daily and never getting any answers. Jonathan tries to debate with himself on whether or not to let the police handle the matter or get in contact with his old friends from the street to handle the matter. The mother, Quiara, is trying to let the police handle the matter as well, but frustration is setting in and she decides to get in contact with her old friend from her former life to help find the culprit(s) that murdered her son in cold blood. With everyone trying to handle it there own way and no one communicating with one another, this could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Big Mistake by Malarie A. Mitchell was a great debut. Big Mistake is a story of family, love and secrets. Although a few things were a little far fetched, the author weaved together a story where each piece of the puzzle came together nicely at the end. The story had some twists and turns that you will not see coming, making for a very good read. The story is fast-paced and keeps you engrossed. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Married for twenty years, Omar and Vashtai Terrace were the picture perfect couple. They had the money and the power. During their marriage, Vashtai was everything for Omar, the kids and their business. After promising that Vashtai could have a spa day with her girls on her 40th birthday, Omar calls Vashtai on the last night of their company celebration and demands she comes home. Vashtai tells Omar that she is not coming, turns off her phone and calls the front desk and adds a “do not disturb” notation to her room. This act of female defiance is considered a dangerous example, which bruised Omar’ego. Being led by his business associates, he retaliates by leaving her and marrying another.

He realizes too late that those same associates who were in his ear were the ones who had an ulterior motive of coveting over what was his. As much as things seem to change, they remain the same. The players and places change, but not much more than that. After Omar divorces Vashtai, she has a few close encounters with men who she would ultimately walk away from early enough so as not to cause too much collateral damage. She picks up in business without missing a beat, but it’s her personal life that is suffering. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know it just yet. It's when she finds herself alone and in a quiet place that she realizes the truth about Vashtai. Minus the comforts and riches she’s use to, the Holy Spirit reveals the missing link, but she is not ready to embrace that truth. Once she is ready to find her queen-ness, she is ready to do a praise dance. No longer doing everything for others, but still ministering to those she is called to.

Randolph created fully developed characters and a very good plot focus. It was a pleasure to see Vashtai and Omar along with the supporting characters move from one place to another by the end of the story. The characters felt real to me as I watched them through their situations. But the best part was seeing where they would end up. How the author paralleled the bible story within this story really made the book come alive for this reader. But it also made me go back over the biblical story with a new eye. The Truth About Vashtai has definitely changed me and my interactions in my relationships.

When it comes to picking men, Keisha has not done a very good job. First was Durran, her first love. She supported him while he was trying to get his music career off the ground. Their "on again, off again" relationship was brought to a halt when Durran got one of his songs on the radio and moved to Atlanta. Even though he wanted her to go, she knew that would be a mistake. Next was her baby's father, Justin. She fell in love with Justin, bipolar and all. Because of his disorder, she had another "on again, off again" relationship with him as well. The only difference is that she had a child with him, which kept him a part of her life. What Keisha really wanted was a family. That's why she put up with Justin as long as she did. When Justin did the unthinkable by committing suicide, Keisha turned back to Durran. Durran was waiting in the wing because he never stopped wanting Keisha. After a whirlwind of once again dating Durran, Keisha thought her life was taking a turn for the better. However, Durran was still the same old Durran. Keisha was determine to put her life back on track. Therefore another man was the last thing she needed. When she goes to Cliff's barbershop to inquire about a job, falling for the shop owner was the last thing on her mind. The more Keisha got to know Cliff, the more she wanted to believe that he was different from the guys in her past. But will secrets and family cause them to miss out on love?

At Last was an excellent read by Bianca Eugene. Eugene has a flare for writing. She draws you in from the very beginning and holds you hostage there to the very end of the story. The development of the primary and secondary characters was great. The secondary characters were essential to the setting of the main story and she did of awesome job of making the story flow seamlessly. Great read!

Love, Song & Dance by Jevon L. Mack is the story of Ja'Quan Jones, a 29-year-old who has worked hard to work up the corporate ladder at Kore-Tech Corporation as a personal assistant. Ja'Quan lives a lavish alternative lifestyle that some admire and many envy. Ja'Quan is confident in everything he does, and he knows that he is fine. The clothes he wears are designer, he eats well and has a plush house. The one thing that he has a hard time with is the loss of his best friend Deandre "Dre" Farrington. Years later after guarding his heart, Ja'Quan gets involved with LeShard West and quickly enters into a relationship. Will it last, or will skeletons from his past resurface, making him face some things head on?

Author Jevon Mack weaves together a story of friends and their alternative lifestyles. The story mainly centers on the main character, Ja'Quan, reminiscing on his past, his friends, and how he met each and every person whether that person was a minor character within the story or not. The story was slow in that the author was too detailed in things unneccessary to the story, such as explaining what he ate and what he wore. Also, the timeframe of the story was unclear. With the use of a developmental editor, I am sure this story could have been much better.

Three friends rekindle their friendship from high school at their 10-year class reunion. Mona Pratt has done well for herself since high school. She is the owner of her own real estate company. Rene Packard has done pretty well for herself as a sale executive for a major corporation. The last member of the trio, Dawn Wright, has not done as well as her other sisters. She works for minimum wage at the local dry cleaners in Overbrook Meadows, TX, the town that the trio group up in. The one thing that the three have in common is their issues with men. Mona has the philosophy of "love 'em and leave 'em" without feelings getting involved. On the other hand, Rene has been hurt by love, and wants no part of it even though she has had an "agreement" with the same guy for over 2 years. Dawn is staying in an abusive relationship because she feels like no other man would want her because she has gained weight and has 2 children by two different men. They are all a mess! So when they reunite at their 10 year class reunion, they decide to take a cruise together and rekindle their friendship. Their cruise was about repairing relationship, self reflection, and looking toward the future. It's not going to be smooth sailing to get to where they want to be, but the Finley Sisters know that this is one wave they want to ride all the way to the end.

The Finley Sisters' Oath of Romance by Keith Thomas Walker was a good read. This is the third book I have read by Walker, and once again he does a fantastic job with plot and character development. He seamlessly weaves three stories into one book while keeping the story flowing. The Finley Sisters' Oath of Romance causes you to reminisce about your high school days and wonder about those people you haven't kept in touch with. It also helps renew your hope that time and distance doesn't affect true friendship.

James Pruitt had no questions about being adopted. His bond with his parents was tight, and he never felt the need to search for his biological mother and father. He realized early on how lucky he was to even have parents like William and Mamie Pruitt. However, on his death bed, James' father used his last breathe to tell James that he loved him but what came next set the tone for the entire book: “have…brother, help him.” The author didn't put much into this scene; you could almost pass right by it. James has much more on his mind at this time then to realize the magnitude of what his father has just said.

While going through his dad’s things, James finds a box filled with newspaper clipping, photos and several different articles, all about Warren Johnson...the same Warren Johnson that was in the newspaper on Friday, the same paper James never had a chance to read. After pondering about the box, James comes to one conclusion; his father has a love child.

Out of respect for his mother, he tries to hide the box but she asked for it. James tries to deter her by saying he already went through the box and “it’s nothing.” But his mother is standing waiting for James to turn the box over to her, and he does. Mom tells James that she knows about the box and who the young man in the paper is. She tells him it’s his half brother by his biological mother. Shocked, James asks “"you know who my mother is?" Very soon after this conversation, James is told some information that will be the catalyst for his actions throughout the next hundred pages or so.

Color of Justice is my second book that I've read by Pridgen. Hidden Secrets Hidden Lives was my first and both books proved to be very satisfying reads for this reader. His storytelling skills are direct and to the point. It doesn’t matter whether he is portraying a corporate or human issue, your heart will be engaged. This time my heart was lost in this story and as it came to a bitter sweet end, the emotions from James and his family and friends left me wondering how far would I go for family?

If I was a weather person I would tell you there’s a chance of rain take your umbrella with you today. As a reviewer I’m telling you to read this book because it is filled with the food needed that makes a good story.

Giselle Whitfield has found love that she yearned for as a child while she was abused by her malicious mother, Greta. She has put her dreams of acting on the back burner because of her fiance’s desire to take care of her. Penning her innermost thoughts and feelings proves to be therapeutic but could also prove to be destructive. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer proves to be an understatement in Shady.

Shady is a common tale of sheisty people victimizing one gullible individual for no apparent reason but pure greed and vindictiveness. The storyline had a choppy flow and poor editing that was a bit distracting. Shady did have potentially good scenes but failed with the delivery. There were too many open subplots and poor character development, ultimately hindering a potentially good read.

After escaping their native land of Haiti after a robbery gone horribly wrong, twin brothers David and Jerry flee to the United States to live with their aunt in New York. The boys continue to go to school during the day, but at night, they are known as Major and King. They quickly get into the drug game but soon realize that there is another more lucrative way to make money... kidnapping. They dub themselves as the Body Snatchers.

Major and King are surrounded by a loyal group of Haitian men who are willing to do anything to get the job done. When they kidnap a man that they think has a lot of money, they soon realize that the man they kidnapped is the son of the Governor of New York. Not only that, but their past is about to catch up with Major and King. Not only do they have the FBI after them, but they also have someone from Haiti that wants them dead.

Body Snatchers by Roze is a story about drugs, loyalty, murder and mayhem. The dialect for the Haitian language or broken English was not present in the beginning of the book, nor was it there when the boys came to America. The author makes mention that the boys spoke broken English, but I would have liked it if the author would have written how they spoke. Not only that, but the timeframe was unclear, making the story a bit confusing. The author failed to have the characters have a voice of their own. At times, I was not sure what character I was reading about because there was no real distinction between them. There were also a few scenarios that were simply unbelievable. I think with a little more development with the storyline, Body Snatchers could have easily been written into one novel and the rating could have rated higher.

Sarah Striker is a young woman that moved to San Francisco from Kansas City in order to live out her dreams. She also was looking for some steady income. Sarah is soon recruited by an advertising agency who wants to target a new drug to her own demographic. She loves the money, but Sarah is leery about what this drug actually does to people. Sarah decides to publish an underground magazine to expose what this pharmaceutical company was doing. But Sarah has to make sure that she’s not getting sucked into this world that she’s writing about.

Christopher Herz brought us an interesting look into the pharmaceutical industry with Pharmacology. This book has an interesting storyline with an entertaining protagonist in Sarah Striker. You see how Sarah gets deeper and deeper into the life that her new job creates. There are also some strange secondary characters in Sarah’s life that makes the book all the more intriguing. Herz also throws in a surprising twist that will make you question everything that you read in this story. Peppered with old school hip hop references and songs as the backdrop, Pharmacology is definitely a different kind of novel.

Someday by Jae Henderson is the story of Tina "Tee" Long, one of the best event planners in Memphis, TN. Instead of a search for Mr. Right, she prays for a righteous man to come into her life...a man that will understand the fact that she chooses to remain celibate until she is married. The problem is that most of the men she dates proclaims to understand her views on sex before marriage, but they fail to go the distance and stick around. Tee is beyond hurt with her latest beau.

After a knee injury that ended his career as a NFL superstar, Michael Stokes is hired as a motivational speaker at one of the events that Tee is throwing. Once the two meet, sparks fly. The chemistry between Michael and Tee is evident. Michael seems like he is willing to take things slow and really get to know one another. Unfortunately, they may have to put their budding relationship on hold because a woman from Michael's past is unwilling to let him go.

Someday by Jae Henderson is a blend of Christian fiction and Romance. The auhor does a great job in the underlying messages to be learned throughout the novel. Personally, I did not care for the "crazy ex-girlfriend" aspect of the novel. In the very beginning and throughout, it makes mention that she is crazy enough to "kill" but I did not see anything throughout the novel that would lead me to believe that she was crazy enough versus just being a woman scorned. On another note, I was pleasantly surprised when I read that the character Michael was from my hometown. But the problem lies in the fact that the places that are mentioned just are not accurate. Aside from some minor editing issues, Someday was an okay read.

At a young age, Candace Johnson witnessed her mother being murdered. As time passed, she learned how to deal with her grief. She met and married Detective Frank Johnson. With their two children, Candace thought she had finally put her nightmares behind her. That was until her husband was killed in the line of duty. Now widowed, Candace leaned on her children, and best friend, Pamela Coleman, for support. Right when Candace was picking up the pieces and trying to get her life back on track after her husband's death, her best friend, Pamela, was killed. Throughout all the tragedies that have occurred in Candace's life, will she be able to move on?

Recently divorced Detective Darnell Jackson recently relocated from California and was in need of a new start. He partnered up with Frank Johnson's former partner, Steven Brunson, to handle the murder investigation of Pamela Coleman. He soon finds out that his new partner is a hot head, and basically leaves Darnell to investigate the case alone. Since being assigned to this investigation, Darnell finds out that this case may be more than he can handle because Pamela is the daughter of a high-powered judge. When Darnell goes to question Candace about her best friend, sparks start to fly between them. Darnell will soon learn that you cannot let the conflict of interest get the best of you.

When Rain Falls is an interesting read by Tyora Moody. It has a lot of suspense, twists, and turns. But it also has a Christian feel to it. In this book, each of the main characters deal with some life-changing experiences, and they will question God as to why this is happening to them. Throughout the book, you will be on the edge of your seat. There is an interesting plot to this story. At some point, you will read the main character, Candace, praying and trying to gain enough strength to find out what happened to her best friend. I am normally not a reader of mystery/suspense novels. However, while reading When Rain Falls, it was hard for me to put it down because I wanted to know who the killer was. And when you find out who it is, it'll definitely surprise you. This story is a good book to start off with as your first mystery novel. When Rain Falls is not predictable at all, and as you read it...you will see why.

Travon Brown is a young journalist whose career is soaring to new heights. But his personal life could use a little work. Travon meets a reluctant stripper named Angel at his frat brother’s bachelor party. They both feel more than a physical attraction to each other. Things get complicated when Travon gets into a tense situation with Angel’s boss. This sets off a chain of events that creates a deadly environment in the streets. Travon soon finds out how one action can create a lot of drama.

The Twist is an entertaining debut novel by James E. Causey. Causey brings us an interesting mix of characters and situations. You see how Travon is a young professional who is looking for more than just causal liaisons with women. Causey does a good job with character and storyline development. This story moves at a good pace and definitely keeps you glued to the pages. There is a surprising twist in this book and cliffhanger ending that could lead into a sequel. The Twist is a great debut novel from James E. Causey.

Nathan Walker is a young man who has a rare gift to do things with his mind. With this gift, he is able to protect his father, who’s a civil rights activist. The power of Nathan’s gift overwhelms him so much that he steps away from it. Due to a family tragedy, Nathan is determined to get revenge on the persons responsible. But the misuse of his gift may give Nathan more than he bargained for.

Sight is an interesting tale about the extraordinary gifts of a young boy. T.R. Braxton did a good job with showing how Nathan’s skills developed and how it changed the lives of his family forever. The storyline and scenes are very vivid and keeps you glued to the pages. You see the growth of Nathan throughout this story as well. There is a constant switching back and forth from the past to the present in this novel, which made it a little confusing to read. It would have been better if Braxton just had the story flow naturally from past to present instead of stopping the action to jump back into the past or vice versa. Sight is still an engaging novel for those that want something different.

Dominique is large-and-in-charge of her life and does not need a man to complicate things. So when she meets her son's new football coach, she can't understand the immediate attraction she has to him. Jake McDonald is an ex-NFL star who now coaches a middle school football team. He is trying to get his life back on track from the loss of his wife, his father, and the fact that the men in his family don't live past 60 due to heart disease that runs in his family. So when he comes in contact with this voluptuous, full-figured woman, he is totally thrown for a loop. She is not even his type. He usually goes for the petite, "willing to please" kind of woman, which is everything that Dominique is not. Dominique and Jake can't seem to get on the same page. When it seems as if they have finally decided to give their relationship a try, an unfortunate event causes Jake to pull back even though he is truly in love with Dominique. Hopefully that large-and-in-charge attitude of Dominique's can get back her man!

Love in Play was a great read by Zuri Day. Day did a wonderful job with character development since both Jake and Dominique were very relatable. They both remind you of some fun-loving, good-natured person you know or have known. The secondary characters are fun and help make the story more enjoyable. Day also does a fantastic job of keeping the story flowing without having moments of the story dragging out without anything eventful happening. I think Love In Play should be added to your TBR pile.

A deep, secret Sheila has kept for 34 years arrives, and now it's a matter of life and death to come clean. How will Sheila break the news to her family, and what will be the consequences and repercussions of withholding this secret for so long?

Family Secrets was a powerful read by Sharon Rhodes. I really enjoyed how the author gave so much detailed background information about each character. The book covered a variety of important topics, which includes infidelity, down low, and drug addiction. Overall, the message in Family Secrets to me was that no matter how perfect someone’s life appears to be, you never know what they have been through or what past they have endured to get where they are.

Misleading by Winkk is the story of Jarvis Denttin, the owner of Denttin nightclubs, an elite and prevalent nightclub. Jarvis is sexy and wealthy. He is also selfish, deceiving, andcontrolling. Jarvis has a huge appetite for sex, but he also has a devious side. Women are highly attracted to him and willing to do anything to have him.

Candance Mourton is the personal assistant to Jarvis. She caters to him to keep the money flowing so that she can live the lifestyle she wants to have. She will do whatever it takes to make it happen, including appeasing his sexual appetite daily. But is that enough?

As an executive, Jarvis has many trustworthy people working for him. His executive assistant, Jennifer Moeky, commits suicide and Michelle, his personal assistant, moves on to a better venture. Candance is her replacement. To Jarvis, money is always first and everything else falls below.

Because money dominates the life of Jarvis, he can’t see the treachery brewing around him. There are schemes developing, but will he see them in time to change the outcome? Who is behind the schemes and why? Will Jarvis stand, or will his life all apart in front of his very own eyes?

Misleading by Winkk has lust, lies and betrayal. The storyline is good, but the events and the characters within the story are totally unbelievable. The characters did things that were really far-fetched. Overall, the story in Misleading could have been more realistic.

Monster by Arielle Crowell is a story of love, lust, lies, deceit, and betrayal. Christina is the daughter of a major crime boss in Richmond, VA named Romeo Calderon. Christina has lived a sheltered life and because of the protection of her father, she knows almost nothing about the business. Her brother, Dominic, has lived his life trying to be like his father.

Dominic is suspected of being involved in the murder of a member of the Carmichael family named Will. Dutch Carmichael is the son of Smiley Carmichael. Dutch is very handsome and charming.

Romeo Calderon throws a party for a few of his business associates, including Dutch. Upon meeting Dutch during the party, Christina is not very nice to him and appears to be stuck up and a prude towards him. Although Dutch does not know who Christina is, he is fascinated by her. Dutch’s father, Smiley, is in observance of the two and plans to use his son to get information from Christina for his own benefit. Smiley has a plan to avenge the death of Will, but is that the only thing he is after?

Although Monster by Arielle Crowell has its share of twists and turns, it also has its share of slow and fast. The ending seemed to be a little rushed and farfetched at times. In spite of this, the book was a good read and the characters were developed well.

My True Essence tells a poignant story of how breast cancer can change a person's life in a blink of an eye. We are introduced to the characters of Danielle, Janessa, and Rebecca, who are all dealing with the aftermath of a breast cancer diagnosis. Through faith, these women are determined to face the future with strength & courage.

The topic of breast cancer hits home for me. I have known a few beautiful people that have died from this terrible disease. Just because breast cancer doesn't run in your family doesn't mean you are immune to it.

The only problem I had with this book was that I didn't feel connected to the characters as much as I would have liked to. There were some parts of the book that seemed to drag on until finally getting to the point. I do applaud the author for tackling this important subject. Overall, My True Essence is a good read.

But for some strange reason, Saphire has always wanted whatever Gade had, boyfriends included. Gade’s fiancé, Lamonte, is in the military and is away on duty, which leaves Gade with too much idle time. Saphire has Clay’s heart, soul, and mind but she still hungers for the excitement and the thrill of other men. Joe Burells meets the two sisters at the same time and begins to woo both without remorse.

What My Sister Don’t Know is a tale of jealousy, spite, selfishness, deception, secrets and sexuality. Being the good girl isn’t always what it’s made out to be. Will Gade stay in her lane, or will she traipse to a side that could destroy many people? Saphire has always dared to be dangerous, but will she continue to indulge in forbidden fruit when she has the ultimate treatment at home? Sisters should be friends since blood is thicker than water. Will the Michaels sisters defy these sayings for their own wants and needs? What My Sister Don’t Know was just a mediocre read for me. The characters lacked any excitable appeal, and the storyline had a lackluster flow. I struggled with this read from beginning to end. I couldn’t find any spellbinding scenes, dialogue or interaction in this book.

I could hardly put this book down. Latisha N. Patterson did an excellent job of capturing each of the five main characters. 368 pages seemed like nothing because this was definitely a great read. This is a great debut novel by this author, and I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for drama, friendship, pain, love, consequences. You will find all that and much more in Airing Out Dirty Laundry.
