Remember a while back when I posted about paper toys? Well, here's another round for ya! This time artist Robert Curet created a little something for us for Easter. 'Bunny Till My Break' is currently available at http://www.xoneindustries.com/ and as usual, these are free for the taking, so enjoy!

When the artist was asked what his inspiration was for the project, this is what he had to say:

“ I was walking on State street in Las Vegas with some friends a few months ago. There against the backdrop of old casinos and neon, we saw lots of people dressed as shabby versions of famous movie characters. Darth Vader, Captain Jack Sparrow, Elvis (of course)… you get the idea. These people made money by posing for photos with tourists for a price. One of these Hollywood icons was Minnie Mouse- complete with polka dot dress and paper Mache head.
After we had walked in one direction to the end, we turned and walked back. I saw Minnie Mouse’s empty head sitting on the sidewalk. It was odd to think this most famous of mice as decapitated- but there it was! Standing there, next to the mask , in oversized pink high heels and signature red dress with white dots- was a really disheveled man hastily smoking a cigarette. Minnie till his break.I wanted to give Xone fans a chance to share in this visual joke. Innocence concealing the Con. It made me laugh when I saw it.”

The debilitating feeling of heartbreak; the self-destructive spiral of past emotions and memories; the overwhelming feeling of social suffocation -- they’re the less gracious experiences in life that we all inevitably encounter and Andrew Bell and Kelly Denato bring them to the fore in The Great Escape – an exhibition of new drawings, paintings and sculptures from the Brooklyn-based artists.

Combining tragic humor and delicate elegance, the artists wade the terrain of a new reality: a reality of pushing forward after shedding the skin of a previous life – be it a love left behind or old fears and insecurities now put to rest.

Many creatures in nature possess innate defense mechanisms - poison, quills, ink, spots, stripes, white winter coats. People on the other hand must create them. Oftentimes it's not a predator we are trying to evade but ourselves; we are bundles of electricity, blood, and spirit - constantly moving, feeling, thinking, sweating, breathing. Our bodies are both containment and confinement. The circumstances that keep us contained, confined, and safe are as thin and delicate as ribbons. – Kelly Denato

Andrew Bell was born in England in 1978. His family moved several times until settling into the eastern US in the mid 1980s. He has lived and worked in New York since 1996.

Andrew’s work spans a wide spectrum of mediums from illustrations and paintings to toys and sculptures. Much of his work is brought together by a sense of humor that often belies a more serious and sombre message.

His work has been featured in solo and group gallery shows from LA to Paris and has been covered by publications such as The New York Times and Wired.

Kelly Denato is a painter, illustrator and sculptor from New York. Her talents have lent themselves to numerous projects involving character animation, motion graphics, character and background designs, album artwork, plush toys, comics, and children's books.

A master of conveying elegance and charisma through simple line drawings and the rich, earthy palette of her paintings, Kelly has exhibited all over the US. She lives in Brooklyn with a closet full of ghosts and a tragically non-existent dog.

THE CONTORTIONIST made the trek down to Audiohammer Studios in Orlando, FL last week to record the follow-up to their stunning 2010 debut, Exoplanet. Famed producers Jason Suecof and Eyal Levi (August Burns Red, The Black Dahlia Murder) are producing the new release, which is set to hit stores in late spring/early summer 2012. The new album is already rumored to be one of the most anticipated new albums of 2012 from one of the most buzzed about up-and-coming bands in the new wave of progressive metal.

The Yellow Dino for Play Imaginative x Disney‏

Familiar with The Yellow Dino? Seems to be most of us are these days..... well, here is the latest new custom. This time Play Imaginative invited Yudi to help with a project for a Disney event this year. Therefore.... we have this awesome collaboration! The Mickey Mouse Vinyl Figure definitely screams Yellow Dino, don't you think? Personally, I think it's fun, lively and reminiscent of Mickey. :) The collabo came out very nicely and I cannot wait to see more works in the future. It seems like The Yellow Dino is always involved in some sort of big project.... how fun!

WonderCon release: Dragon King

Kuso Vinyl will be having some sheer awesomeness this year at their booth at WonderCon. They will be releasing Dragon King "Enter the dragon" edition by kaNO. This edition is limited to 250 pcs, and has the Tai Chi logo on the back.

Excited about the figure? Yeah, us too! That's not the only exciting part though. kaNO will be attending WonderCon and meeting with fans from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday, 17th at Kuso's booth #287.

Art Whino returns in 2012 for the Third edition of G40. Following the mission of G40s past, we will once again bring exposure to low brow’s many faces and, as always, present what new facets emerge within this ever growing movement. This year G40 focuses on the "Art of the Mural". In the last 5 years, there have been great bursts of street artists transforming the city’s urban fabric with large scale mural artwork. With their powerful and awe evoking size of over five stories high, these murals transform the landscape of the passerby and create a unique experience to each wall that was once blank and artless.

This year’s G40 will travel to Richmond, VA. and will become the inaugural opening event of the city’s soon to be announced official art district. By inviting 13 of the top mural artists from around the globe to unleash their creativity to 20 large scale walls in a 10 block radius, it will surely become amazing artistic destination point for years to come. In addition to the large scale murals, we will also present an exhibit in pop up galleries along the main street of the district. With canvas work and installations by each mural artist, these shows will offer the opportunity to experience a more personal scale and a closer look at the execution and detailing of the mural artists' work.

As in previous years, we will also present a 500+ artist exhibit that will highlight all the genres within the low brow style. This year though instead of concentrating the show in one building we will be in 8 different locations throughout the arts district with an exhibit of more that 50,000sqft in total. In this exhibit we will showcase all the genres within low brow, in this way highlighting the growth of this movement and the versatility of these artists. In Gallery5 we will be premiere "Weapons of Mass Change", a traveling group show to benefit humanitarian missions around the world. Each artist will be transforming weapons, once used to oppress, and re-skinning them as unique works of art in the vain of helping humanity.

All of these shows combined will activate 10 city blocks with the large scale murals, over 8 storefronts housing the massive G40 Group show and premiering the weapons of Mass Change traveling exhibit. In this way, the G40 Summit will leave its mark on Richmond’s Art District. This show will become a part of the city’s arts culture, which will be further established as the Mural Project becomes a yearly event for the district, creating continuity and in turn helping to solidify Richmond as a major art destination in years to come.

In addition, Art Whino will make its mark in Richmond’s art scene by joining forces with RVA to create a new quarterly publication called "WHINO". This magazine will focus on all aspects of the Low Brow culture worldwide. The premiere of the magazine will be launched during the G40 and will bring attention to the inauguration of the Art District with a month long schedule of Musical performances and events.

DIY 10-DOH "ZOMBIE CUSTOM"

Alex Break has been a busy body getting this custom ready for show! The 10-DOH Zombie Custom piece titled The Legend of Zombie is really cool, don't ya think? I personally have an appreciation for the zombie figures lately. :) If you want to see more pictures or are perhaps unfamiliar with Alex's work, you'll want to check THIS out. FATAL sent us some awesome pics of some customs he completed not too long ago. I'm excited to share the images with you, as they are so fun and awesome. I always love getting email from FATAL as I know they will definitely not be a bore. :) Now, he tells me there will be a release soon, so keep your eyes and ears at the ready.... I'll have more info on that as it comes up.

For now..... I'll let FATAL tell you a little about today's figures.

"First is a Futura Nosferatu piece ive named 'The assasin' using bits from a terminator toy a vintage star wars slave 1 ship other pieces and all powered by yodas mind ( if you look carefully). Next is a bwana spoons steven the bat figure i turned into 'Zombie super bat' and finally is the real X head chaos man figure which has transformed into 'Toxie' from the toxic avanger films which me and my dad loved to watch back in the eighties."
