Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub

Great food. Great beers brewed on site. Only wish happy hour would go until 8.

They switch out 5 of their draft beers seasonally and keep 2 or 3 year around.

Check out their smoked and grilled wings. -- by Brinkman

very predjudice bar...owners only care about making money and not the safety of their patrons. If you are of color or different sex orientation and some one causes you harm here...just know you will be the one escorted to leave or the cops will be called on you if try to reason with them about their decision! Will never frequent this bar again! -- by Justice

Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar

WORST EXPERIENCE !! BIGGOTS AGAINST GAYS! One of the male servers kept picking on my best friend, who is a gay man. Very rude, condescending, and when we went to management they could've cared less. They asked us what we wanted and all we asked for was an apology from the server. Management instead slipped my $50 CASH, which was all folded up like it was from his own pocket, to "refund' my table fee! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service...sad thing ishad never been there before and we drove a hour and a half to go there for my best friend's birthday, and he was harrassed and his birthday ruined. -- by xty989

Spuds Bar and Grill

This little bar tucked into a strip mall between Sears hardware and Marcs Grocery Store is easy to miss, but neighborhood regulars know it well. A local watering hole, Spud's is the kind of place where everybody knows your name. The drinks are poured with a heavy hand, but the prices are suprisingly inexpensive! The food is reasonably priced, and the portions are a good size. The burgers are done to perfection, the wings probably give nearby competitors, Roosters, a run for their money, the burritos are huge, and the fried balogna sandwich boasts a big slab of balogna that has a little bit of a kick to it. There's a patio out front that is enclosed and heated in the winter (for those of you that like to smoke), and karaoke on Saturdays. The crowd is mixed with an older crowd usually around dinner time, and the younger people that come in the evenings. Overall, this little hole in the wall is a great find. Highly recommended! -- by DHYgirl

Bier Stube North, The

This is your typical "hole in the wall" with lots of regulars. The bartenders are friendly, but most importantly their drink prices are some of the best. Great selection of COLD beer. There is an attached restaurant called JT's Pizza and the food is fantastic! The pizza, wings, and sandwiches (The Whoppo is A+) are some of the best pub grub you'll find at awesome prices. You won't be disappointed! -- by sunchik

Gaswerks

Gaswerks knows no end to its pure, suckage. This bar is the size of an aircraft hangar and the scum session hits you immediately. Nastywerks vaguely attempts to charm you with a milieu of road signs, Americana and such a la applebeees, tgi Fridays and every other lame-ass American chain restaurant. Then, what's this? My shoes, they're sticking to the floor, like some rundown movie theater. Thats from the almost toxic build up of red bull, vomit, sweat and more RED BULL which flows desperately from cans in a crappy attempt to hype up patrons. This bar is for frat boys to boisterously roam around and make it look like they're on the prowl for a scantily clad set of melons to squeeze when really all they do is bump chests with their pectorally blessed cronies. Upon realizing that no interesting/attractive/non hookerly dressed women are there, they're stuck staring at one of many awkward looking projection screens that Gasjerks thinks it can use to call itself a sports bar. Speaking of, the pool tables it prides itself on serve no purpose. Mainly, fellow strippers/loose skanks unite to turn these crappy pool tables into inebriated stage dancing lessons from hell. Entertaining? Yes. Appealing? No, no, NO. It begs the question why doesn't the worst bar in the great state of Ohio doesn't abandon its futile wet dream of being the best pool locale in columbus and install a skeeze ball, sticky dance floor. The bartenders=double dose of douche bag, not to mention there's approximately a 42:1 ratio of willing and paying patrons to bartenders, who move as if they're submerged in a giant tank of douche-ridden wet mud behind the bar. I waited 31 minutes to get 4 overpriced beers, all the while taking time to check email, NHL scores, beat 5 levels of angry birds, review and purchase a book on Amazon and wonder why I had a spotlight on me the whole time. Alas, I realized then that the bar is well lit beyond belief, making it even more awkward, think trying to make love with 11 fluorescent lights blaring on you. Assjerks shouldn't remain in business, and hopefully the more negative reviews (especially ones like the "troll henchmen" review) it gets put this establishment out of business so a semi adequate one can move in. -- by rlieberman1234

Hal & Al's

My wife and I love this place. It is a quaint bar with a lot of personality. The bar owner loves beer and always has an incredible selection of draft and bottled beers. There is always something going on. Usually, there is live music wednesday through saturday. They have an open mic night on tuesday, I think. They have a vegan sushi night, a tasting every tuesday. I went in there yesterday and they had "pub-golf" set up on the stage. The people that frequent this place tend to be in their twenties and thirties. Everyone we've met has been very nice and friendly. This is a "beer" bar, not many people order fancy drinks or wine. They have a full bar and i've ordered some bourbons and coke plenty of times, but not anything more than that. Even though it is on Parsons ave, the location doesn't seem to affect the patrons. I've never seen any bums or any "unwholesome" people in the bar. There is no domestic beer on tap. In fact, domestic beer isn't visible anywhere in the bar. While they do have Bud Light, you have to ask for it specifically. The food is all vegan and surprisingly good. I had a vegan hot dog and had a tough time distinguishing between "meat" and "non-meat". The vegan cheese isn't that great though... You can only do so much with soy and tofu. This bar is a great hang out place with a lot of personality, you should give it a try! -- by Jeff Rogers

Hal & Al's

My boyfriend and I have visited Hal & Al's several times since we moved to Columbus a few months ago. The bartender (I think his name is Rob) was very helpful and knowledgeable about their amazing/fantastic/wonderful beer selection. I worked at a great place in Dayton that touted 30 draughts and 75+ bottles so FINALLY finding a place here that is comparable was a very happy moment for me :) They take beer requests which is awesome to keep their rotation going and makes it fun and unusual.

Their food is mostly (maybe entirely) vegan. I hail from a hunting/fishing, highly carnivorous family but definitely liked the menu. They're creative. It's not carrot sticks and ketchup with a side of celery and hummus. I noticed a vegan chili dog, man 'n "cheese" and a couple other things I've never tried but would like to. Their fried sampler is (if I remember correctly) broccoli and cauliflower florets, avocado chunks and pickles served with a cilantro-lime sauce and mustard dip. It's delicious. Never had fried avocado? You should.

H&A's is roomy with bar seating, a few large high top tables, small couch area, and a nice patio with a privacy fence. They have occasional live music, sushi specials, Ms. PacMan, and some sort of beer club.

The downsides:
Open at 4pm. Learned this after trying to go around 2pm a couple times.
Close at midnight during the week if they aren't busy. My man gets off work at midnight. We've been disappointed a few times and had to go elsewhere.
Ladies bathroom. Can't speak for the guys but the ladies room is one at a time and very, very small.

I hope Hal & Al's continues to grow and gets more business. It's a great little place. -- by hefmjk

Bar Louie - Arena District

You are wrong... Bar Louie has a $1 Burger night on Tuesdays every week. They are the same exact burgers sold for $9-10 any other day of the week. This is a great deal, as long as you dont order 10+ extra toppings for your burger. $2 Quesadilla Night is on Thursdays, also. Please get your facts straight before knocking a great deal and a great Bar/Restaraunt such as Bar Louie... -- by BucksFan888

Mac’s Cafe

Mac's Cafe = awesome WINGS!

I dare you to try their hottest sauce. A buddy of mine braved it and his face turned purple the instant they hit his lips. Pretty fun night.

Don't worry though, they've got a super-mellow sauce called "low" that tastes delicious.

Also, try out their soft pretzels with beer-cheese.

Marshall’s Restaurant and Bar

I love hanging with my friends at Marshall's. While their food and drinks are pricy, they have GREAT deals during happy hour.

It's a great place to get started on Friday nights.

The patio is great and the inside has a little koi pond that is pretty interesting.

Also, they've got a big projector with whatever game is on playing, so you can see from anywhere. -- by Lames42

Plank's Bier Garten

I've been at Planks a couple of times after softball games and have always enjoyed myself. It has one of the best porches in Columbus, offering an enclosed but alive feeling to it like some of the best bars up in Wrigleyville. The pizza is pretty good too. -- by jfauque

Coaches is a suprisingly classy venue. They've got $1.50 domestic drafts as their happy hour special. Great place to hang or have an after work get together.

Also, if you like sports, they've got TONS and TONS of TVs in there place. It's pretty overwhelming. I went with my wife and had a tough time concentrating on the conversation :) -- by Lames42

VinoVino Restaurant & Wine Bar

I have actually been to Vino Vino's Happy Hour many times. They offer a variety of "baby" martinis and 3 ounce pours of red and white wines. The food is the perfect portion and very flavorful. I highly recommend the fish taco and tuna pizza.

I would also like to add that Vino Vino's Happy Hour is Monday - Saturday (since they are closed Sunday) from 5-6pm.

Also, I would like to add to the comment made by the other reviewer. I disagree and think the price point is very affordable for the food and the wines. Comparing them to most other local wine concentrated establishments, Vino Vino is much more affordable. -- by CSchlosser
