White Eagle, The

I don't understand how this place is still in business. Based on my experience the fries are cold and burnt, and the drinks are flat and expensive at $4.35 a pint. Do yourself a favor and walk down the street to Amnesia Brewing for a real treat. -- by mjandri

Palomino

I was invited to Palomino for a free meal on opening night. While they had completely gutted the previous restaurant (Manzana) it somehow was largely unchanged inside, except the updated bar area.

The food was very very average, maybe even slightly below average. The cost of both the food and the beer was rather high considering the quality. For example, they are charging $5.50 for a Bridgeport IPA when you could walk 5 blocks to the brewery and get the same beer for less than half that price.

Palomino definitely has a chain restaurant feel. I would recommend passing on this place if I were you, there are just too many better restaurants in Portland. -- by mjandri

Mulligan's Bar & Grill

A personal favorite for those hot days in SE. Mulligan's has an uncanny knack for never being too busy, and never too empty. You can always get at least a couple of seats. If you're looking for a standing-room-only party, look elsewhere. But, for a great late-night happy hour on a Thursday, there's no place better. -- by baggend

SanSai Sushi Bar

I've given this place 3 tries to improve and this last time, they secured their place as WORST sushi place EVER. Their menu reads incorrectly so what you think you'll get, you don't get. The service staff (the chick) is rude and unapologetic. The manager doesn't GET IT that his menu is off and doesn't care. Go elsewhere. -- by Lulu1234

Rogue

I get why people don't like spending $5 a pint. Especially in a town full of people who would rather fork over $1.50 to swill down a can of PBR!!! I'll never understand that.

First off, if you want quick service, try drinking at the bar. Personally, I've always had great service, especialy after becoming known by the bartenders. Second, if you sign up for the Rogue Nation card, which is free, you will save .75 a pint, not a lot, but it helps. Third, paying $2-3 somewhere else for a 4-5% alcohol beer that has no taste, versus $4-5 for a 7-8% beer at Rogue that tastes outstanding ... really not that bad of a deal.

Obviously, I am a big fan. If you are willing to join the nation, and belly up to the bar, and meet some of the great bartenders (Mike, and Biscuit are two of my favorite 'tenders) you will no doubt have a great time and taste some exceptional brews! -- by biffbouse

Rogue

Great beer, but expensive. I have found the food to be good, and had the Kobe beef blue cheese bacon burger as my last birthday meal. Quite delicious. This pub is little on the expensive side, but worth it for a once in a while venture. Service can be a little slow, but the place is usually busy in the evenings. -- by drinkingrogue

Ringside Steakhouse

Ringside Steakhouse may resemble a shady strip club from the outside, but the inside is way different. The bar area has a friendly and comfortable feel. Both the food and the service are excellent. All food items, including their famous steak bites are only $2.25 during happy hour. This is possibly the best food happy hour in all of Portland. -- by mjandri

Green Papaya

This place is under new ownership now, the service has gone down hill, the food is not up to the standards it was before and the prices have almost doubled on most items. I had lunch there today as I have done 100 times before and I always order the same thing. My bill that was always $24.00 for 2 was $42.00, and a place that used to always have a huge lunch crowd had only 2 tables at 12:30. -- by kjones

Yoko's has a lot to live up to. There is always a line at this place, so prepare to wait. I did, and it was worth it. I recommend their Poki, which includes sashimi tuna with a sesame sauce. Yum. -- by mjandri
