My name is Jordan Davis and I’m a senior at Hoover High School. I first got involved with UrbanLife at Hoover my freshman year when I went with some of my basketball teammates one night after practice. It drew me in and I went ever since then.

UrbanLife has changed my life in just keeping me off the streets and away from bad influences, keeping me around the right people. I’ve seen others go through so much problems and even drop out of high school. Mainly UrbanLife not only brought me closer to God but it gave me five brothers who I know I can count on to make me strive to be better in life. It also allowed me to have adult figures to look up to and talk to when my mother wasn’t there cause she works and my father wasn’t around.

I began my relationship with God at a young age. I was always around church but I wasn’t as close. I knew who He was but I didn’t truly give myself to Him. The leaders allowed me to connect to God by teaching me about his word and going to camps where we have fun and are able to get away from our regular lives and really connect with God. Without UrbanLife I really don’t know where would be.

In the 7th grade I became involved with UrbanLife when a visitor from UrbanLife by the name of Romin Irani visited a lot of my friends and me at my middle school. We had gotten used to him coming around lunchtime because we would just joke around and be chill with him. One day at lunch Romin told us that there was a place we could just hang after school where we could eat and have fun. We all said we would like to go. So then every Wednesday me and some of my friends would all go to UrbanLIfe and have some of the best times of our lives.Over all the years that I have been with UrbanLife I have learned what it means to be a leader, learned responsibility and respect and I think of everyone in Urban Life as family. Through UrbanLife, I met God in the people that surrounded me, and the way cared for me like I was part of their family. God has really blessed me with a family that loves me just as much as my parents do. My life has been changed in various ways such as in love. I have great love for UrbanLife because they helped shape most of who I am today.

UrbanLife, UrbanLife. Oh, UrbanLife: my home, my family, my hope.

Through UrbanLife, I was able to learn and follow the Word of God. I decided to follow God when I was sophomore at Clairemont High School. I am a common urban girl, living in downtown San Diego with a Catholic family. I was confused as to why I was Catholic. How was I supposed to call myself a Catholic when I didn’t even know who God was or what the bible is about?

From UrbanLife, I have learned that no matter what color, what race, what economic position we are in or what school we go to, or what beliefs we have, we are all one family. UrbanLife has taught me that life can take me anywhere: places I didn’t even expect to go! For example, I took a long hike at Lake Tahoe, which I have never done before. Also, I had the opportunity to help and serve others AND l had fun doing it. I think that if it wasn’t for those types of trips, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Today, I am a college student that not only looks forward to life but also a person that believes in God. I have faith in him and am fortunate to be spreading it around the neighborhood of City Heights. Now, I am an UrbanLife Middle School leader and I also volunteer at Mann Middle School where the kids go.

I am also in a small group. I love being part of what God is doing in others’ lives! Praying with others has also increased my faith. Unlike before, prayer is now a big part of my life. Everything I have accomplished and everything I am doing is because of God. Giving back, serving and loving people is a great joy to me and knowing that God called me to be part of a great group has fulfilled my life. I’m so blessed to be part of UrbanLife- sharing so many wonderful moments with many great people who have opened their hearts to me makes me a better Christian. Now I know who I am, I believe in who God is and what the Bible is about. My life is changed.

Originally I got involved with UrbanLife because my friend Darian told me about it and he spontaneously decided to go to Mission week in Spring of 2010. So I decided to go with him. I had no idea what I was in for. All I knew was that we were going there to serve people in need and do work. I remember the first night I stayed there was the most fun I had the whole week. We all sat together as big family which I wasn’t used to. The rest of the week was amazing as well. That is how I got involved with this life changing church. There are so many things that I have learned through UrbanLife. I have learned perseverance, responsibility, true love and how to love God. There are many other things as well. I learned to persevere through thick and thin by experiencing the many working tasks I’ve helped UrbanLife with. The 3 Mission Weeks, in particular, taught me to persevere in terms of work and tolerance. The Zion Utah trip taught me to persevere physically. I have learned responsibility by the commitments I made to Urban Life; to go to church, IOBlife. and UrbanLIfe on Mondays. I have learned true love because I have learned to love God. I truly never thought I would have such a strong bond with God as I do now. I’ve been to a lot of churches in my life. I can honestly say that UrbanLife ahs impacted me the most.
