Day in and day out are spent with the same routine, and things can get stale and uninteresting. In times like these, a great number of people find that volunteering their time to a cause that they believe in is a very useful tool to renew their lease on life and find a new passion. Volunteering can be extremely rewarding for nearly anyone, but it is especially useful for certain groups of people as a way to meet others, expand on interests and even gain work experience. For many volunteer positions, you’ll be required to be interviewed by a supervisor, and possibly sign off on having a background check performed. This is especially the case if you’re hoping to work with vulnerable people.

Who Should Volunteer, and Why?

Volunteering is an excellent way to enrich your own life and feel as though you’re making a difference in the lives of others. Just about anyone can find a way to benefit from volunteering their time, but a volunteer position can be especially useful to people who have just relocated to a new area and don’t know many people. Volunteering can be an excellent way to meet people with similar interests in your area whether you’re a newcomer, newly divorced or even a person who is trying to re-enter the workforce after being off for any length of time. Many people enjoy the feeling of making a difference in their community, and find that volunteer positions help them to do that in a field that interests them personally. Other reasons to volunteer include as part of work experience, as an opportunity to expand on environmental interests or in community service, and to get a feel for a field that they’ve been considering studying.

Set Volunteering Goals

In order to feel as though you’re truly making a difference in your community, no matter what the field is that you’re entering in to, setting personal goals is a great way to quantify your success in your endeavour. Challenge yourself in order to spark personal growth, and as you succeed in your challenges you will start to feel valuable and fulfilled. Setting goals within your volunteer work is an excellent way to invest in yourself and gain relevant skills to the situation you’ve volunteered for. It can also help you see your dreams for your community come into fruition, which is enough to make anyone feel good.

Volunteering within a community has shown to help people fight depression, gain involvement and just generally feel good about the time they’re spending outside of a day job. For many, volunteer positions can turn into a lifelong love for a specific field, and that’s well worth the time you’ll put in.

BBQ, outdoors activities, jacuzzi, and spa are some of the things you can have in a backyard. BBQ is a must for those loving to eat outdoors. A BBQ can fit in a small area therefore, even if you have a small backyard you can still have a BBQ. In fact some people have BBQ in a balcony or a path area.

In case you have a jacuzzi or a spa than don’t forget to cover it when you are not using them. A spa cover is cheap and prevents debris and leaves from falling into the water.

If you have a backyard take the most of it and take advantage of the space. Invite family, friends or neighbors and have a great time.

However, this can be a bit of a challenge when you travel on an airplane, as cats tend to be extremely nervous flyers. When your cat comes along with you, there are a lot of rules to follow, and you’d better know what they are. In some cases, a mild tranquilizer can be just the thing to keep your pet from freaking out the entire way. Regardless of what happens, make sure your accommodations when you land will be suitable for your pet, or the entire trip will go very badly.

Preparations

When you prepare your cat for the trip, one wise idea is to trim his or her claws. A little less claw is a little less of a weapon when it comes time to put the little fur ball into his or her travel crate. Also, keeping the crate out for a few days will allow your feline travel companion to get used to its presence, so it isn’t a shocking surprise when trip time comes around. You should also ask your airline about how they deal with pets. Some airlines allow pets inside the cabin, but most keep them in a separate pressurized compartment.

A Little Something for the Trip

No, we’re not talking about trinkets or a cat shirt here. We’re talking about preparation for the flight itself. Some people like to have a few drinks before they go on a flight, if only to calm their nerves and relax themselves a bit. Animals can sometimes benefit from a mild tranquilizer, as well. If your cat is particularly nervous, you might ask your veterinarian if there are any mild and harmless foods or additives that might calm your cat a bit during the trip.

When You Land

Landing also presents some challenges. Obviously, you want to visit attractions and stay in lodging that will be welcoming to your pet, but that isn’t the only thing. You also want to make sure that the airline you fly with has a good policy for reconnecting you with your pet as quickly as possible. Since the traveling process can be extremely traumatic for a small animal, being back with you again as quickly as possible is a very good thing. Your little kitty has had a hard enough day already without being alone and isolated for a long time.

Traveling with your cat isn’t so bad. Provided you take some precautions, the preparations are reasonable. Then the flight itself will pass, and you’ll be in a fun place with your pet, who will eventually forgive you for their ordeal.

About the Author: Marcel Trojillo has flown with his cat several times and enjoys having her with him on extended business trips. Make sure your cat is calm and safe at all times and your trip will be a success.

That can be a great experience . . . but first you must get through the car ride. If you are anticipating a longer than average trip in the automobile and your pet is not used to car travel, then there are certain steps you need to take to ensure the best trip possible. Here are some guidelines for preparing your pet for a long vacation car ride:

Gradual learning. Don’t expect that your pet will be ready for a long car ride without proper preparation. No matter how many cool pet carriers, toys, and travel aides you purchase, there is no substitute for time and practice. Take your pet on a number of smaller car rides before the big move, just to get him accustomed to the idea of riding in the car. Gradually extend drive times until you feel safe that your furry friend is comfortable with the car ride.

Prevent overstimulation. Before you head out, make it a point to drain your pet of its energy, at least as much as possible. Remember that there is a lot to see through those car windows, and it all moves so quickly. This can be a little much for a pet that is not used to such stimulation, and you don’t want your little friend to go bonkers inside such a cramped space. Take your dog for a long walk, and/or play with your cat, to tire out your pet before you get in the car.

When to feed. Don’t make the mistake of feeding your pet right before the trip, or else you could have a serious mess on your hands, in the form of car sickness or diarrhea. The last time you should provide food should be three hours before the trip, to allow for ample digestion. Also, avoid feeding your pets during the trip. Instead, provide them with toys that they can play with or chew on until the trip is over.

Secure your pet. It is never a good idea to allow your pet to free roam through the car during a long trip. Invest in a travel seat for dogs, and in a harness and leash for cats. For other, smaller animals, travelling with them in a pet carrier of some sort is a great idea.

As you can see, there are some very simple precautions you can take when it comes to travelling long distances with your pet. Enjoy that vacation without any hitches when you follow these suggestions for taking your pet on long vacation car rides.

About the Author: Mallory Kral loves to travel with her entire family. She prefers looking for houses for rent in their destination cities so that they can take their two small dogs on most trips with them!

That feeling of being a few hours off can be terrible and can even ruin the first couple days of your trip. Thankfully, you don’t have to be a victim of jet lag. There are a number of ways to prevent jet lag and recover from it. Here are five ways to help your body recover from jet lag.

Determine Which Time to Fly is Best for You

If you’ve flown before, you probably known if you can sleep on a plane or not. If you can sleep on the plane, plan your trip during the late night hours. This will allow you to sleep so that you arrive refreshed, rather than tuckered out. On the other hand, if you have trouble sleeping on a plane, do not travel at night. This will greatly affect your sleep cycle and make jet lag even worse.

Adjust Your Hours Before the Trip

To help prevent jet lag from occurring in the first place, adjust your hours before the trip. It helps to do this a couple days in advance, but even one day will help. This will help ensure that your body has enough time to adjust before you arrive, which will make your trip more enjoyable.

Try Not to Crash Right After You Arrive

You may be tempted to fall asleep as soon as you arrive at your hotel, even if it’s the middle of the day. However, this can make jet lag much worse. If you go to bed too early, you’ll be awake to early and start a vicious cycle. Instead of crashing as soon as you arrive, go out for a cup of coffee and a quick trip around the city. Do whatever it takes to keep your mind off sleeping.

Try Melatonin to Help You Sleep

If you find that your sleeping cycle is thrown off due to jet lag, you can take melatonin to help regulate your sleep cycle. Melatonin should be taken 1-2 hours before you hope to go to sleep. If you need the pill to work more quickly, allow it to melt under your tongue instead of swallowing it.

Readjust Your Hours Before Coming Back

A day or two before returning from your trip, readjust your hours so that when you get home, you’re back on track. This might be difficult, but it really will make it easier to adjust after your trip. If possible, try to schedule a couple days off before going back to work after getting home. This will give you even more time to adjust.

Jet lag is not fun, but with a few easy tips you can help prevent it and quickly recover from it.

When you are in China you can visit the famous Terracotta Army. It is one of the most incredible tourist attractions anywhere in the country. It is important to remember, however, that anyone who is interested in overseas travel must first have a valid United States passport. Anyone who has a valid American passport can travel freely all over the world. If you have a passport that is expired, you will need to find a passport agency that offers services such as US passport renewal.

Passports

Anyone who does any international travel knows how incredible important passports are. If you lose your passport while overseas, you will need to obtain a replacement passport before you are allowed to return home. It is incredibly important to keep your United States passport in a safe location while you are traveling. Since it is so important to have a passport when you travel internationally, it is vital that they are kept in a safe place when they are not in use.

History

The army consists of terracotta sculptures representing the armies of Qin Shi Huang who was the first emperor of China. This Army represents a form of funerary art, it was buried with Win Shi Huang in 210-209B.C.E. and it’s purpose was to offer protection to the emperor in his afterlife and also made sure that the emperor had people to rule over. The figures vary in size depending upon their role. The tallest figures are generals, and other figures include horses, chariots, and warriors. Some estimates regarding figures suggest that there are over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 horses and about 150 cavalry horses. There are multiple pits in which these figures are buried. Other figures include strongmen, musicians, acrobats and officials.

Sites

There are four pits that contain the Terracotta Army. The first pit contains an army of about 6,000 figures and has eleven corridors. The second pit contains the cavalry and infantry units as well as many war chariots; it is believed to be a representative of a military guard. Pit three serves as the command post; it contains high ranking officers and features a war chariot. The fourth pit is empty; it appears to have been left unfinished. There are a large number of other pits that aided in composing the necropolis that have also been excavated.

Museums

The Terracotta Army and other figures can be visited at the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Site Park which houses many of the Terracotta Army finds. It contains the major sites that have been discovered including the ritual sacrificial pits, the Museum of Terracotta Acrobatics, the Museum of Terracotta Civil Officials and the Museum of Stone Armour as well as the museum of Bronze Chariot and Horse.

If you are trying to decide where to take an overseas vacation, consider visiting China. Before you go to China, however, you will need to make certain that your United States passport is up to date with all the correct information. If it is not, you may need to search for a passport agency company that offers passport renewal services. You will not be allowed to travel overseas if you do not show customs officials proof of a valid U.S. passport. Traveling to China would surely be the adventure of a lifetime. If you do make it all the way over to China, consider seeing the incredible Terracotta Army.
