How federal university of calabar, calabar students dressed to school to grace the student week

In the early hours of December 12th, I took a stroll to the federal university of Calabar to experience the activities being conducted at the university environment since her student weeks were supposed to hold or start that day. And what I saw was mind-blowing.

Nigeria always set aside some days or weeks for their student to perform some basic activities of which one of which is switch dress day.

The federal university of Calabar is not an exception to that, in her just concluded switch dress day female students were seen dressing like males while the male student was seen dressing like females to mark the event.

In other to mark the beginning of this event students were expected to go to school on the 12th of December Monday to their various classes on a switch mood of dress according to ojong miracle.

Special Anti rubbery squat chase unical students from protesting on the SUG election that was not free and fare

On the late hours of thursday, around 4:10 PM they was a peaceful protest in the federal university of calabar, calabar cross river state.

The protest which started from the campus hostel malabor leading to the vice chancellor office did not go well as planned by the students because special anti rubbery squat (SARS) were now invited into the matter to chase the students from carrying out their fundamental right. The students proceeded the protest to the school main gate but we're still chase by SARS.

According to one of the protesters Barrister Achibong Edet that was interviewed by the police, the protest was about the just conducted university student union Government election which was not free and fare as described by the protesters.

Some of the activities that were conducted before and after the election as described by the protester were all not pure because the online voting election was to start by 12pm but it started around 1pm.

According to them, we were unable to vote for our candidate of choice because the website was down for more than five minute and the other candidate was already leading with 700 vote they further went forward to say that the candidate leading did not campaign therefore he is not known by the students and should not be leading with such number of vote therefore they are calling on the school management to cancel the election.

A one-stop adolesens and youth friendly center currently lunch in university of calabar

The management of the university of Calabar has launch a one-stop adolesens and youth friendly center for the benefit of student and staff of the institution.

The two story building which has an indoor sport facility, digital hub and a section for HIV/ AIDS Services was commission by the cross river state minister for health, Dr Betta Edu.

The honorable minister who was conducted round the building by the vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Florence Banku obi Commended the institution for supporting the government of cross river state effort to reduce the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

According to her the facility will provide free HIV service including treatment to more than fourth thousand students and staffs of the university as part of the strategies to contribute to the reduction of the prevalence if AIDs in cross river state, Which presently stand at 1.8%.

University of Calabar investigate a lecturer who conducted exam in a hotel

Nigerian university investigates lecturers who ‘conduct exams in hotels’ “In one or two cases, lecturers have written apologies and they have quietly refunded money taken from students.

A Nigerian university said it was investigating allegations that some of its lecturers have been conducting examinations for students in hotels. The University of Calabar in Cross river State, Nigeria’s South-south, on August 10, issued a memo to the university community, saying it was launching an investigation into allegations that its lecturers had resorted to conducting examinations at homes and hotels. Although the memo did not state why a lecturer would abandon the halls on campus and have student(s) sit for exams in hotel, it is believed that sexual and monetary gratification may be a prime motive here. “Management has information to the effect that lecturers have resorted to giving students scripts to write exams at homes, hotels and relaxation places,” said the memo signed by Michael Okom,

a professor and the deputy vice-chancellor in-charge of administration, University of Calabar. Mr Okom, in the memo, said the university was also investigating allegations of money-for-grade, otherwise called “sorting”, and sex-for-grade, sexual harassment, and extortion. “Some departments and lecturers have been specifically fingered and investigations have commenced In fact, they would soon be invited to interact with the Disciplinary Committee,” he said. The deputy vice-chancellor warned lecturers to desist and repent from “these despicable activities.

Florence Obi, a professor of special education, is the vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar. She was elected vice-chancellor in September 2020, the first female to be so elected 45 years after the establishment of the university. Mr Okom told PREMIUM TIMES, Saturday, that Mrs Obi’s administration has a zero tolerance policy He said there have been series of complaints from students against some lecturers. “The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, has zero tolerance for these vices because even in her inaugural speech she made it clear that she wasn’t going to tolerate them. “We don’t want that to be mere political statement, we needed to let everyone know that we are very serious about enforcing our zero tolerance policy,” he said. He said the university’s investigations into the allegations would be thorough and that the school would try and get as much evidence as possible. The results of the investigation would be made public and lecturers who are culpable would be made to face the law, he said. The deputy vice-chancellor assured that the identity of students who volunteer information on the allegations would remained concealed. “It could even be an anonymous report and we are going to investigate and make sure we get the person(s) red-handed, we will use the DSS, we will use our internal security,” he said. She said she had personally intervened in some cases and forced lecturers to refund money to students. “In one or two cases, lecturers have written apologies and they have quietly refunded money (taken from students) because these students actually sent text messages to me that they were asked to pay this. “The lecturers have been cautioned. Let it be that people know that we are going to be hard on them. “The one of randy lecturers writing exams in hotels, I don’t want to say it’s true. In this my tenure, we have rebranded our answer booklets, we have customised and serialised them. So now, we know that serial number one to 100 belong to so department. It is very inconceivable for people to go out and write exams and bring in the answer booklet. Lecturers are also made to account to all the answer booklets given to them,” she said. The vice-chancellor said the General Studies courses were hitherto plagued by “sorting”. But that in order to eliminate that, students today write computer-based examinations and their grades are given to them immediately after.

The university runs a centre for gender development to help students fight sexual harassment within and outside the campus, she said. “Sorting”, sex-for-grade, and sexual harassment are not peculiar to the University of Calabar.

SOME GROUP OF STUDENTS IN UNVERSITY OF CALABAR CONTRIBUTED MONEY AND FOOD STUFF TO ORPHANS

On the late hours of Thursday 2021 around 3:20 pm, a group of organisation of people known as TURNING POINT TUTORIAL (TPT) carried out a humanitarian service in calabar.

Turning point tutorial which have been existing in the beautiful city of calabar is a tutorial made or organised specifically for 100 level student in unical and jambite.

The organisation visited the blessed hope and faith foster family together with their student who were about a total number of 200 students to show a sign of humanity by giving food stuff and money to the orphans.

According to the woman that reported a brief history about blessed hope and faith foster family,which is located along 124 goldi street,calabar, calabar south said the foundation was formed in 1978 which means 3 years after unical was establish by evangelist Mrs Blessing Duke who is 98 years old And hoping to be plus one again on October 24th.

Furthermore she also added that the 98 year old woman was a warrior, fighter, army who fought during the Biafra war. And also she was one of the poineers who started Assemblies of God's church in Calabar.

Mrs Blessing Duke is a mother of eight children of which four are boys and four are girls with 65 great grand children of which many are are abroad because of her kind heart.

In addition the status that is at watt round about Calabar is Mrs Blessing Duke father's in-law.

According to a report she is not educated but she is more intelligent than a PHD holder. Mrs Blessing Duke spend life in northern part of Nigeria, her husband was an agricultural farmer but today Mrs blessing Duke is a great woman because of her dedication.

Dr Tiku Etta also present spoke as a pastor and prayed for malabite and malabresses who visited.

When it was time for Mrs blessing Duke to address the crowd, she sang before talking. She was so passionate about the song to me it was an evidence of a heart of gold. She also went further to tell a little story about her mother who is from Igbo who told her something when she was small saying " her destiny is in her hands and it is good that her end should be better", and finally prayed in efik for the the students.

UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR ASK FINAL YEAR STUDENT TO RETURN BACK TO 200 LEVEL

Some students of the University of Calabar, Cross River State have called out the institution's new Vice-Chancellor, Florence Obi, for asking final-year students in some selected departments to go back to 200-level due to non-accreditation of their courses by the National Universities Commission.

The students, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told SaharaReporters that the courses have gulped millions of naira taken from their families.

They, therefore, described the VC's decision as inhumane and inconsiderate.

The students explained that courses affected by the accreditation issue include Fine and Applied Arts, Mass Communication, and Music.

According to them, the affected courses were newly introduced during the administration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the school, Zana Akpagu.

They alleged that the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution had personal scores to settle with the former Vice-Chancellor and that the animosity was taking a toll on students' lives.

One of the respondents said, “I have an issue in my school and I don't know where it is heading to. I am a final-year student in the Fine and Applied Arts department at the University of Calabar but the Vice-Chancellor is telling us to go back to Year two so that NUC will recognise us. This is after paying school fees for four years and wasting money for materials which have so far, amounted to millions of naira. The new VC is now telling us we have to comply with this directive else we will not have a result.”

Another student described the VC's directive as unfair, saying the issue should be reconsidered for the sake of the students.

He said, “There's an issue going on that is really unfair. We are students of the University of Calabar. We have been in the school from 100 level to final year. For some of us in selected departments such as Fine & Applied Arts, Mass Communication and the rest, the VC is are telling us that we have to go back to 200 level and we are already in the final year.

“We have spent money; Fine and Applied Arts gulps a lot of money, we are in final year and now they are telling us to go back to 200 level and it is just an accreditation issued by the NUC and now the new VC does not want to consider people. Something has to be done.”

When asked if the VC promised a tuition waiver for the students, he replied that school fees were the least of his worries but rather the time and efforts wasted over the years.

He continued, “Paying school fees is not an issue, we are not worried about that. Do you know, sometimes, in a day we spend like N5, 000 to N6, 000 in buying chemicals and the rest and we did this for four years. We are planning on taking legal steps against them.

“Our set is the first set of Fine & Applied Arts in UNICAL alongside Mass Communication and Music, they were not taking the course before now, they just registered it.

“The former VC, we believe has an issue with the new VC and this new VC cannot go and settle the issues they have so we can graduate in peace, they are making it to affect us. The former VC introduced the courses. We cannot suffer because of someone else's personal problems.

The ceremony kicked off with an opening prayer session, a corrosive aluta chant and a brief introduction by the now dissolved Eleco Chairman.

The Director General of the Caterpillar Movement, as well as the Chairman of the occasion, gave a sound and enthralling opening remarks. In his words filled with prestige and eloquence, he gave the following points:

There is every tendency and necessity to uphold every leadership mantle on one by one’s colleagues, associates, fellow citizens at every point in time.

He was very particular about the past administration and how they have vigorously built and laid quite a tremendous impact both in the student union and Cross river as a state.

In his words _“when one chooses to troll in the line of political apathy, a time will come when one will cry wolf, his nonchalance in matters of his state, shall one day, dawn on him, his failures”.

He specifically advised youths to take their academical process serious and also ask questions where and when necessary, this is to ensure that things are properly done. He emphasized on the need to be abreast with one's rights. He brilliantly recapitulated the activities of the distinguished Senator and face of the Caterpillar movement on issues concerning youths and the realistic showmanship of fair hearing, he has accorded to every youth that has shown concern.

He went further to reproach the idea of cultism as a practice. He showed great detest and disgust at the terrible outcomes of such act. Students sent to school have overtime not made it out of school to go sing a thanksgiving in church, rather, a great ceremony is held by their parents in memory of their death.

He proceeded to congratulate the newly elected excos and urged them to do well as expected.

In furtherance of the ceremony, the newly elected executive members in CENSSA Worldwide election were called upon for oath taking.

Sunny Ndem, a very spirited father of CENSSA (the first elected CENSSA-WW Chief), was duly called upon to coronate the new Chief of CENSA-WW He started by giving a sincere yet very conscious advice to the body. He re-echoed on the issue of cult groups. He showed so much dissatisfaction with the level of impunity and lackadaisical attitudes which have flooded the student community.

In his words, "What shall it profit a man to loose the world, and his soul inclusive?"

He was very optimistic of the administration that has just being birthed. His speech was filled with tintinnabulation, when he emphasised on the importance of every exco. According to him, there exists nothing such as a less important exco, as long as one has radically distinguished himself to serve."

The newly Coronated Chief/ President HRH Chief Marvelous Imoke (CENSA-WW Chief the 9th) gave a very salient and superfluous speech. His speech was meticulously presented and duly received by CENSITES. This was followed up by the vote of thanks presented by the newly elected CENSA number two citizen HRM Rejoice Ojong, The presentation of certificates to the newly inaugurated executives followed suit.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things that are worth reading, or do the things that are worth the writing.

Indeed, the 9th inauguration ceremony of CENSA-WW, is that which every ink in a sheet will stain and every lip will forever hallow. It was a worthy sight to behold.

Today the above named union facilitates with the former Dean Faculty of Law and now Deputy Vice Chancellor(Administration) University of Calabar on his unique birthday.

Today, is indeed a great day in the calendar of University of Calabar as the University celebrates a Bishop (spiritual father) scholar , legal luminary, professor of law, and mentor per excellence.

Truly, Prof. Michael Okom is one great teacher who has inspired Nigerian students and the entire university community with his dexterity, tenacity, sagacity, resilience, inspiration, humility and wisdom.

Furthermore, on behalf of the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists University of Calabar Council, I wish to heartily commend and congratulate this icon on his efforts in repositioning the University of Calabar to greater heights within his short stay in office as DVC Admin. and for granting Nigerian Students listening ears.

4. Varicoceles: Varicoceles are a common cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality, which can cause infertility. However, not all varicoceles affect sperm production. Varicoceles can also cause testicles to fail to develop normally or shrink.

5. Laptops: Regular and long-term placement of a laptop on the lap can cause a rise in temperature, which is spermatotoxic and can kill sperm.” Even men keeping their knees together for prolonged periods can generate enough heat to decrease sperm viability.

6. Drugs: Certain drugs legal and illegal can have a negative effect on male fertility that is a man’s ability to father a child.

7. Mobile phone: There is increasing concern that the use of mobile phones may be associated with decreased semen quality and infertility. Cell phone radiation may negatively affect sperm quality in men by decreasing semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm count, motility, and viability, thus impairing male fertility.

8. Smoking: Impact of Smoking on Sperm and Semen Quality.Studies on male smoking have shown a decrease in the quality of semen. How does smoking affect sperm? When food is properly combine the body organs enjoys it, but when this food or substance is wrongly combine some of the body organs suffers it a lot without your human sense knowing. Ok let check the abnormal combination of malt and milk as a blood booster.

Combination of Malt and Milk is not a Blood Tonic or a Blood booster. It's a myth and a lie,and there's no truth about it.

let me analyze this a bit further.

Each 100g of Peak Milk contains: 28.3g of Fat (of which 19g is “saturated fat” which is actually bad fat- very bad medically for your heart).

37.1g carbohydrates.

25g protein.

506 kilocalories of energy.

And the rest are salt, vitamin A and D.

So essentially Peak Milk is mainly fats, carbohydrates and protein.

Blood tonics need to be rich in IRON- that is easily absorbable by the body- because this is what your body needs and uses to make blood!

And unfortunately, Peak Milk has NONE of that.

So what we are trying to prove here is, for ANYTHING to “give you blood” or help you build blood- it has to be a rich source of IRON- because that’s what your body needs to build blood.

That’s why when your blood is low; Pharmacist/Doctors give you IRON containing capsules/syrup which you take for it.

And that’s why ANYTHING that would be considered a “blood tonic” MUST BE a rich source of Iron.

So if something is NOT rich in Iron, it cannot give blood,

IF it is NOT rich in Iron, it cannot help you to build Hemoglobin and Red Blood Cells- which is essentially what you need to “build blood.

So this is why doctors just laugh at the popular myth of “malt and milk give blood”.

The Peak Milk label clearly says on it that it’s NOT rich in Iron.

So IF you are hoping to “build blood”, and you are drinking Peak Milk- you are actually wasting your time and money.

IF anything at all, all those Milk is high in saturated fats which as I said earlier on is bad fat for your heart.

Regularly taking in large amounts would make you fat, increase bad cholesterol LDL, which can predispose you to hypertension, heart disease, and a heart attack.

I’m NOT saying don’t take it at all.

I’m only saying as an elderly person, it has risks for your heart and on your health if you take large amounts of all those milk on a consistent continuous pattern. Because of the high calories and fat.

You have to learn how to limit it and cut down.

What if maltina analysis?

Look at the label on the bottle.

Again you see that Maltina - like any malt drink- is mainly calories and carbohydrates (sugar) with very little fat and vitamins. That’s all.

There is NO Iron whatsoever in Maltina.

NONE AT ALL.

THE FINAL ANALYSIS AND ADVISE

Maltina has NO Iron.

Milk has NO Iron.

Iron is what your body needs to build blood.

And they are right on that.

That’s NO myth.

In fact, there was a research done on Ugu Leaves and its relationship to blood building and all that.

It’s a well-known fact that Ugu can help to build blood. Taking it with milk is just for fun- the power is in the Ugu, not milk.

But why do they give us Malt and Milk after donating blood?

Actually, that’s a “thanks for coming”, dears. They are not giving you back your blood AT ALL. Don’t be deceived.it’s just an incentive for you to donate. It’s NOT blood replacement

But malt and milk is sweet/refreshing

Sweetness, ENERGY and Refreshing feeling comes from SUGAR.

As reported by Monoba Moses and Uche Ekwenife that the epoch-making ceremony started with the procession train of the Honourable Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Florence Obi , the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Okom, and various dignitaries from across the federation.

The Chairman of the 34th Convocation lecture Session, Prof O. Yakubu , an erstwhile Students' Union Government Executive of the University, in his opening remark recognised the Executive Council and other members of the governing council of the University.

He commended their efforts and devotion for keeping in top gear the running of the University.

_In his words, "moment like this means a lot to me, in 1980 as a Students like you I sat here listening to the first Convocation lecture,and three (3) years ago I was invited by the then Vice Chancellor to give a lecture which was an auspicious moment for me "

"Since 1960 , we have had 786 Professors serving as Vice Chancellors and only 32 had been women , currently we have eleven(11) female Vice Chancellors in the Country, and amongst others only University of Calabar , the Federal University having both a Female Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor "._

Later on the DVC Administration Professor Michael Okom gave the Citation of his Excellency, Rt Hon.Rotimi Amaechi, Former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation.

In his words" _Ladies and Gentlemen, before us is our Guest Lecturer for the 34th Convocation of this University, His Excellency,Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Without any iota of equivocation, I hereby assert that this Guest Lecturer is eminently qualified to present this lecture because he has been in the frontline struggle against the centrifugal forces of national disambiguation. He has inspired a critical mass of Nigerians and many generations of beleaguered Youths."

The Citation covers the epicenter of his neighbourly attention sequencing his nativity, educational peregrination from St.Theresa's Primary School in 1970 to his attainment of Bachelor of Arts in 1987 from the University of Portharcourt , his excellent political oddysey in students Unionism and circular politics as well.

Concluding his citation, _"in view of the foregoing, and having regards to these incontestable verities: that this Guest Lecturer has waded in the murky and muddy political terrains of Nigeria and come out unscathed ,and having established beyond any scintilla of doubt that Honourable Minister of Transportation has demonstrated with overwhelming conviction that he has the muscles of a dependable and battled tested gladiator, I hereby submit that these generous soul that exudes warmth and camaraderie,be given this deserving opportunity to address this distinguished assembly on the topic : The National Questions and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria ."

The Guest Lecturer, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi coming up to give his lecture, started with stating firstly his studentship, having graduated from the University of Porthacourt and series of events unfolding. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his appointment drawn out of merit and her dedicated service, he further appreciated the University Community in giving him this invitation, He put _" However I am honoured on the invitation as regards to the Convocation ceremony which reminds me of my graduating ceremony when I couldn't afford a suit for my graduation, to graduands I heartily celebrate you"_

The studies of his lecture covers the identity covering the plight of the people in the country. _"At no other times has the national questions been drawn to limelight as now.This question is of a National issue stating carefully how the future of this country is going"

"The National questions concern the loyalty of her citizen as to why her citizenry should be loyal to this country of many struggles.The National questions has to do with the relative strength that comprises the country running affairs of her members._

He went further to state that _African scholars up till date keeps examining the National questions as regards to the Nationhood of her citizens,under the pressure of the independent movements, post independent era Africans have been filled with wars, and tribal segregation._

_Contemporarily, on no account must we underrate the national questions, which is commonly asked by the masses as to the direction of this country in the nearest future, it should also be noted that If a politician fails in an election it shouldn't lead to eminity which orders the day , and throws the National questions again.

More importantly in the world, as relating to the National questions on unity ; USA is battling with the force of Racism against Black, even a nation as homogenic as China still faces the separating problems of ethnicity and other European countries.

_The National questions has been asked right from the 1914 almalgamation, questions buttress on the unity of the country, and has been raised since then , tracing the leadership antecedent of the British Rulership._

_The National questions has been raised again when certain past leaders , like Obafemi Awolowo in his famous book state concisely _"Nigeria is not a nation but a mere geographical nation" .

_Our history groups are scanty on the values of the country. As seen from our early fathers, it can be said that the problem of this country on National unity started long time ago.

In contrast the Country leader are in competition against one another which gave the British a pattern to play on the ethnical division portrayed.

However the focus on the study has been drawn to the crisis following, tribalism, ethnicity and regional nepotism.

Suffice it to say the country was built from a National Contest, however the country was made possible by creating of Three(3) to one(1) major ethnic groups, keeping one the minority.

The creation of the _Twelve(12) States was to solve the National questions, it gave the minority ethnic groups voices, the states were new center to bring a sense of oneness in the country, the state was created out of the idea to eliminate tribalism.

Successive period of the military governance was at the course of establishing a sense of National Coalition, Similarly a defined structure created to spread the soldiers around the country irrespective of ethnicity.

The authorities of the FG has come under increasing pressure of population in answering the national questions, carrying a higher percentage of poverty, with low level of foreign investors has also led to high unemployment rate in the country.

This pressure and development of this Country has surfaced lots of problems in answering the national questions. I agree with the popular voice and consensus of strengths, It is on this note, we should appraise the Buhari led administration which has done much in tackling National Security, Major rehabilitation of highway, Railway station construction, a contract of 11billion from Lagos to Calabar, Road construction from Port to maiduguri, and other road constructions.

Similarly the Buhari Led administration is envisioned in enhancing social mobility to bring about the integration and unity of cultures in the Country.

At this juncture , the national infrastructure may not be felt now but by the future generation will feel same, currently our democratic system has shifted a lot and our youths have grown in entrepreneurship.Our Nigerian youth have grown up the sense of belonging to a progressive country for all.

Our quest for the national questions is to make progress in leadership, albeit not perfect, We need to replace the basis of personalities, tribes and regionality to a good meaning of democracy, so that together we can achieve the National vision and concern of country for all.

We need to walk towards a nation were opportunities are presented to all through active engagement of our national stakeholders towards the welfare of the country.

Joe F Esq., Chairman of Rivers State Community in the University of Calabar, thanked the University Management for their support for a suitable learning environment given to Rivers State indigenous students.

He commended on Honourable Minister, Hon. Rotimi, as not polarising the current status quo of country,but delivering clearly his Lecture on The National Questions and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria", an award was presented by his Excellency Sen.Ugah James to Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.

Further, the Vice Chancellor Professor Florence Obi, unbehalf of the Governing Council, Senate and the University Management Staff also presented an award to Rt Hon.Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his remarkable and tested feet in the country.

As reported by Uche Ekwunife that in total compliance to the provisions of the SUG Constitution and in order to enable the judicial officers and members of the Ministry of Justice who were appointed by the SUG President and ratified by the SUG Senate to assume thier functions, a ceremonial Inauguration was held on the 24th of March, 2021 to that effect.

The oath of office was administered by the President of the Court of Appeal S. A Akpanke Esq. who was duly represented by Michael Anefiok Esq. The SUG President then proceded to inaugurate these officers.

The Master of Ceremony for the event was Arinze Michael SAM(erstwhile Acting Attorney General and Director of Public Prosecutions).

The Chief Judge gave her resounding inaugural speech, as well as the Attorney General/Chief Law Officer.

As part of events to mark the new era, the proactive Chief Judge, Hon. Jus. Osuji Doreen launched the first ever Rules of Court in MALABOR REPUBLIC. The Rules of court was presented judiciously to the SUG President.

Another limb of the occasion was the opening of the legal year.

The legal year was opened with a prayer by Comr. Effiwat Michael.

The Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Doreen Osuji declared the legal year 2021 open.

The SUG president while giving his keynote speech appointed Arinze Michael, SAM as his SA on legal matters(subject to ratification of the senate).

A discussion session was opened for speeches, suggestions, remarks and opinions on how to move the judiciary forward.

There were pivotal and salient points raised from both the bar and the bench on how best to revamp the Justice delivery in SUG-UCC.

The closing Remarks was taken by Hon. Justice Donatus of the Court of Appeal while the closing prayer was led by Hon. Justice Fadamana of the SUG High court.

Unical set to refund money paid by student for unnecessary charges to student

The Ugah James Led Consolidation Government was greeted with a fiscal challenge from the Entrepreneurship Education Center (EDC), The arbitrary fees demanded tormented the unical pikin. This Government swiftly went into negotiations with relevant Management authorities and at last we can say that the Unical Pikin won. As reported by the NUCJ, Unical chapter.

It is worthy of note that Our Motherly Vice-chancellor must be appreciated for giving us the listening ears.

Indeed dear Malabites and Malabresses, our interest is safe in the capable hands of Our dear Prof. Florence Banku Obi, we cannot overemphasise the efforts of our able and capable Fatherly Dean of Students' Affairs who stood by us throughout the negotiation process. Also, the union is commending the solidarity of all the members of the Executive Council, that their voice yielded this result.

Hence, the union have resolved as follows
That year one and third year will pay the sum of One Thousand Naira only(#1,000), this upward review is as a result of the current economic realities and a step towards harmonising the process of payment. This eliminates every other payment i.e. monies for filing. All students who fall in this category and had paid six hundred naira only to the University of Calabar EDC account are to go and pay the balance of four hundred naira only to the EDC Account.

The union have also resolved that the second year which is the reviewed practical year, should pay Five Thousand Naira only (#5,000).
This decision is reached on the following premise.
1. That Students will carry out practicals with the SOUTH-SOUTH Entrepreneurship Development Center.
2. That the SOUTH-SOUTH EDC Will issue a recognised certificate to all participating students. The fee covers for all learning and certification and not a dime asides the pronounced fee is expected to be paid for any reason whatsoever. This implies that for those who had paid extra Two Thousand Naira, will also get their monies refunded.

It has also been resolved that all students from year one and year three who had paid the Five Thousand Naira will recover the monies paid, all students in year two who had paid Seven Thousand Naira will get a refund of Two Thousand Naira only. Hence, all students who fall in this category should approach the Union Secretary General Comrade, Egba Victor E on
+2347053006545 with evidence of payment for proper documentation.

For implementation and follow up. The President hence, has set up a team consisting of the following persons:

9 causes of low sperm count and their sign you should know before it is too late

Low sperm count has been a major cause of so many people not having children which has resulted to destruction of marriages and homes, so it is very important you take note of some of the things you take in or inhale into your system.

Some of the major causes that will be mention here are

INFECTION: some infections in males can interfere with sperm production or health or can cause scaring that blocks the passage of sperm. they include inflammation of the epididymis (epididimitis) or testicles (orchitis) and some sexually transmitted infection which include gonorrhea or HIV so always treat infections as urgent as possible because research have it that men are the most cause of childlessness in marriages than women because of failure of treatment of infection in men.

ALCOHOL AND SMOKING: Heaving drinking in men affect low sperm count by lowering testosterone levels, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone and raising estrogen levels which reduce sperm production by shrinking the testes which can cause impotence or infertility. changing gonadotropin release which sperm production.

HEAT AND STRESS: this set of people are likely to have lower concentration of sperm. In their ejaculate are the sperm they have and more likely to be miss happen or have impaired motility says senior author pam factor litval, PHD associate professor of epidemiology at the mallman school of public health.

VARRICOCELE: this are cause by defective valves in the veins within the scrotum, just above the testicles. normally, these valves regulate the flow of blood to and form the testicles when normal flow does not occur, the blood back up, causing the veins to dilate (enlarge).

BEING TOO FAT: this causes hormonal imbalance. if am man's body has excess body weight, the male hormone testosterone turns into the female hormone estrogen. When a man estrogen is higher than normal estrogen levels, his testicle are less likely to produce sperm. So always do excesise.

DRUGS: Anabolic steroids taken to stimulate muscle strength and growth can cause the testicles to shrink and sperm production to decrease. Low of cocaine or marijuana can cause your sperm count to reduce as well.

HORMONE: decreased fertility is more likely in men with this condition. The hypothalamus, pituitary gland and testicles produces hormones that are necessary to create sperm alterations in these hormones, as well as the thyroid and adrenal gland may impair sperm production.

CHEMICALS: when men with high exposure to the substance DEHP, a so called phthalate, have lower sperm motility and may therefore experience more difficulties convincing children according to a new study.

OTHER MEDICAL ISSUES: various health conditions can cause retrograde ejaculation or lack of ejaculation, including diabetes, spinal injuries and surgery of the bladder prostate or urethra. Certain medications also might results in ejaculation problems such as blood pressure medication know as alpha blockers.

The student union government (SUG) director of welfare in the federal university of calabar, calabar in collaboration with hunters foundation carried out a wonderful and beautiful exercise this morning by feeding malabite and malabreses in their hostels.

Comrade Adagbor Destiny Elite the current director of welfare in the the prestigious institution is a 300 level student of philosophy, faculty of art. He carried out this wonderful exercise with a title UNICAL PIKIN BURGER (akara and bread) On the 20th of march in the morning by 8 AM in malabor square in male hostel and hall 8 and 9 in female hostel.

As reported by by his honorable SA in media and publicity in the person of comrade Chineke Desmond told useful home that this would have only happened normally before election as part of the campaign strategy, but here is a Government that really has the welfare of Nigerian student at heart.

He further went forward to breakout the good news that this wonderful act of generosity will be taking place every second and last weekend of the month because the student welfare is their priority.

The aim of the courtesy visit as reported by calabar blog was for the 34th convocation ceremony which is to hold on the 27th of march at Abraham Ordia Stadium in the school environment.

Excel Nwogu reported that 18th of March, 2021 remains a historic and red-letter day in the annals of history of Students' union Government and Legal Practice in University of Calabar Jurisdiction. It's a day that marked a symbolic advent of a breed new battalion of legal armies.

The Malabor call to bar and Conferment of Senior Advocates of Malabor kick-started with the arrival of high profile diginatries including the Chief Judge of Cross River State ably represented.

Applicants for call to bar took their seats in the auditorium, dressed in Barristers' robe and so also the members of the Malabor Bar Council.

The Solemn procession of the body of

benchers to the auditorium of the event followed suit; such a beautiful sight to behold. The Secretary to the body of benchers , Hon. Alex Olajide welcomed dignitaries and sought the leave of the Chairman of the Malabor Bar Council to present the candidate and aspirants to the Bar who have successfully completed their training and Bar Examinations.
