<p>Skyros, in the Sporades, is home to roughly 2,600 residents and somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 semi-wild goats. The local goat population has been there for centuries and is now considered a distinct, protected breed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. There is a Greek island with a beach of pink sand</h2>



<p>Elafonisi in Crete owes its pink tint to crushed shells of microscopic red organisms called foraminifera. The color is more visible after storms, when the waves churn up fresh material from the seabed.</p>
