One of the most powerful strategies for any organisation who uses football or any sports to educate, and develop projects is - creating partnerships.

What I'm about to share is a simple strategy Adam Taha shared with me at a later date in great length. By building partnerships with organisations, schools, colleges, and even businesses, you can tap into thousands of pounds of tools, equipments.

Equipment that are later thrown away and can be of great use to people in Africa.

These equipments, computers work. They are second hand but still, they are the latest than what is the schools and colleges I've been too.

My purpose was to find away, to help thousands of youths, adult make and women to get books, computers, camera's, laptops, football kits to help them.

One of the challenges organisations have to develop projects is cash flow.

That's why many organisations rely on funding and this can really be dangerous. That's why we advise to utilise your unique skills by first finding out the problems your organisation solves.

One of the questions asked by leaders around the world and community leaders is a greater understanding of FIC role.

That's why we created this blog which will later develop to a professional official blog, for peace, development, educating and inspiring communities by using the Power of Football.

To Celebrate the Efforts ad Hard Work of the Team, I'd like to share briefly exactly what has been achieved so far.

I'll upload very soon the report from each community and it reveals the hard work of FIC; the many miles they had travel, the commuication and meetings with community leaders and community members.

So I'll upload these reports very soon as pdf documents.

For now, here are some of the achievements and the results.

2006 - 2010
In 2006, I wanted to find a way to bring the communities in DR Congo together, particularly South Kivu.

It had to be done without force and it had to be with knowing how to engage all the community leaders, tribe leaders and get them involved.

It was a huge task because our major challenge was funding.

And yet, we are now, in 2010 and FIC, Football between communities achieved what seemed impossible. What has been achieved are the following:

1. South Kivu Unity Festival which was also broadcasted live on TV and Radio. Its purpose was to unify all communities from all territories of South Kivu.

Bringing people together and who have not been in touch and in contact with each other, for more than 10 years. We filmed everything; we have the tapes because we know results matter.

We also had the vision to create a global platform to let everyone see the work.

2. School For Peace. Its aim and purpose to empower young people; who we know will be the next generate for our country; and the next leaders.

We educated about peace, tolerance, reconciliation and how they can engaged in the development of their community they live in and as a country as whole.

3. Working with Youth Centres. We educated the youth centres about the danger of conflict caused by war; and how they can prevent disease, such as HIV.

4. Sansibilsation - Community Engagement. To empower people the community to work together, live together without fear conflict, discrimination, racism and cultural clashes.

The FIC workers travelled to different villages and going to different community; meetings, with community leaders and people within the community by expressing the message of peace, tolerance and unity.

What I'm sharing is just the tip of the iceberg of what Adam Taha shared with me.

I'll upload the video, which we're still editing about using the Internet to promote our skills, vision and to generate money.

You'll see just a few screen shots of Football Between Communities Blog and marketing sales funnel, and system.

I've done what Adam advised when using the Internet.

To lead with my skills, knowledge and to be down to earth in how I share the knowledge and experience to help organisations.

To share and reveal what I'm experiencing, what problems have been faced and how we as an organisation and team solved them.

One of the challenges many organisations are going through is the lack of cashflow. Relying on funding can be a hard long road but there's other methods that filling forms to get funding.

We can generate our own cash by using the skills we all have.

While sitting with Adam Taha once every week, I realised why he’s in the elite stage.

His decoy blog which is blogger is where he’s just using to update me and others that know him. His official website will be launched but not everyone will have access to his university. He's real, down to earth, happy and always smiling kind of guy.

Most of all, he can explain what is needed and he has the technical knowledge too.

It's here where he showed me about what to provide for our targeted audience and to filter out any who are not really wanting solutions, and not our target audience.

Then he revealed to me the sales funnel and how to generate cash using our passion, our teams skills and expertise.

From Where to produce the product without upfront money. The process from the the moment the customer sees the product, to the point of upsell and conversions of sales.

Every detail and kept asking, "You get? Ask I don't move too fast for you," then gives out a loud bellowing laugh. That's Adam.

Adam Taha also revealed why the cashflow challenge we have had has to be solved from day one or we'll have major problems in the funding. Again can change with funding.

So we have to be creating, gain the knowledge and skill to get this done.

In mentoring, he he showed me the steps of what I’ve learnt to be called a Sales Funnel.

Breaking it down in detail and the process at his house.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was just amazing to see the plan come together. There's still a lot of work to do but I understood each component.

Where each one was leading and they are there. How they lead to another and to our own membership website. To how I don't need to worry about saturation and competition.

And revealed why, how to overcome it and what it needs.

What I saw was a £30,000 Marketing system, with products of our own, which were from the content I emailed to him a while back.

I was wondering why he wanted the knowledge I had on developing organnisations, funding, coaching football to sponsorship. Well, now I know. They've become information products!

By the time the meeting ended and seeing everything, I knew where to start, how to start, what to do next.

It was very crystal clear.

Even to what I need to now, what books to read, what training I need. And from this alone, I gained a higher level of belief for the future of our organisation and in myself.

There’s still much work to do but the work he’s provided for Football Between Communities is over £30,000 +. It's the mentoring that gets you. He's very detailed, neat and plans way ahead.

Which helps because I too do not like unprofessionalism.

Obviously I cannot show everything because much is secret work, but I can at least I've showed how we’ll be creating solutions, that solves problems and generate finances to sustain our projects.

Flying To DR Congo For Football Between Communities Project

I've recieved the letter which means, on Wednesday I’m flying to South Kivu via Dr Congo, capital city Kinshasa. The aim is to meet the head of Head of STAREC program.

The DR Congo country program on stabilisation and reconstruction, which the intend FIC community work. (Football Between Communities).

Afterwards I’ll be flying to Baraka South Kivu to participate in an event called Fizi Primary Schools for Peace.

This will be a sport event organised by the Head Quarter of FIC. Then I’ll have to also chair the Annual FIC meeting.

Finally, I'll be showing what we've done through the guidance of our Mentor Adam Taha. The new website blog with it's marketing system.

What he showed me just blown my mind. I never thought it was possible.

I'm creating a video to share share the challenges any organisations will face to develop projects using sports.

And what we have done in overcoming such finanicial challenges and the sneak preview of the marketing system we're building through Adam Taha mentorship, knowledge and skill.

Without mentorship, I feel I would have made many mistakes and it would have taken a very long time.

I'll post the video next week when I finish editing it.

How To Engage And Educate Youth Through Football

One of the conference we've been attending is called A Call To Europe.

We did a three days discussion in Rotterdam, which was about the issues discrimination, getting youth involved in issues they face in Europe, like:

Racism, inclusion (to have a sense of belonging, being part of the decision making in our communities), human rights and a greater understanding between communities.

I was on stage, sharing how football can be used to achieve the above. It’s a tool that can engage people from all walks of life especially the youth.

It’s not just a sport but a way of coming together, celebrating together, working together, learning together and being part of the community as a whole.

And feel that sense of belonging which people and the youth today really need. What Call To Europe wanted me to share about the work we're doing with FIC.

How To Use Football In Communities

The following is what we shared:

How we use sports, particular football to bring Sheffield communities together.
How we engage youth in organisation sports activities.
How Sheffield is a mukti-cultureal city and how people they dealing with each other in Sheffield
Rotterdam is a city which is multicultural.

They wanted to learn from my experience because they read the book called Britain Everyday’s Hero, The Making Of Good Society.

The Call To Europe workshop held different workshops on immigrants and refugees issues, european trade between member states, the new member state in european union to Human Rights laws in european union.

Also the European vision outside the european zone like African, American and Asian. So it was three days in Rotterdam and three days in Hague.

The Hague is where the International Criminal Courts are based. Where I've had the experience of being in these courts, hearing the case of two Congolese War Lords.

We spent one evening in Amsterdam at the Unity Is A Strength Foundation Award, where they give awards to different guests or organisations.

How FIC is Using Football To Develop Community Champions In DR Congo

Just had a meeting with Adam Taha, two hours ago and he opened my eyes to how to market and attract interest, cash and funding to FIC.

He shared with me the journey of Andrew Carnegie, the real meaning of Definite Purpose Aim. The story of Napoleon Hill which revealed, how knowing what I wanted to do from day one, has been a great asset.

It was an amazing two hours.

We went through the needs I'm targeting and together, planned a marketing blue print to help FIC to achieve it's aims.

One of the challenges FIC has had is I needed to find a way to generate funds to support for the work I'm doing with the team in Africa. For some years now, I've worked with an amazing team who have worked without funding for the last 3 years.

It's what Adam Taha mentioned in the story of Andrew Carnegie - to go the Extra Mile without thinking of getting paid first but do what you love to do.

Poverty And Lack Of Education
It's here where I share with you the problems and solutions of how to use Football to solve the many problems in the terroitory of Fizi in province in South Kivu in DR Congo.

There is a lack of education, poverty, disease DR Congo and the cause is due to the war.

The war has been over from 2006, when a president was elected but we still see the overwhelming impact it has had till this day.

For example, the majority of the children have no access to education, clean water, food, clothing, shelters and the basic needs that every human being can have today.

We believe that any single child around the world has the right to education and a basic needs of a home, clean water and food.

How Do You Manage Without Funding
When Using Football To Bring Divided
Communities Together

On the 22nd till the 24 April 2010 I went to Vienna, Austria to do present a talk and also to ask questions, on how to use Football to bring communities together.

There were about 150 different people and they represented the organisations they are with.
Many questions were asked as we split into groups to discuss.

One of the questions that struck the group and people I met was:

“How do you manage to do the work in Africa, DR Congo, in this condition of war, poverty, post conflict situation, without funding.”

It’s something that many organisations are interested in because we do rely on funding but I felt, that when someone believes in what they are doing, with passion, and conviction, we have to keep going until the world recognises and sees the results.

The results happened and it did without funding for the last two years. The funding we did receive was from FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe). $5,000.

The funding wasn’t given in one go. It was given in divided into two parts. $2,500 and then we had showed the receipts and then later, we got the other $2,500.

If I can compare that with only the South Kivu Unity Festival cost us almost $30,000 US dollars. This was raised from people, friends, footballers and the other portion was from my pocket.

It wasn’t easy. In fact, it hurt because I had my own responsibilities – family, children, life living in UK, studying and so many aspects in life many do not consider.

Thinking that we are paid a monthly salary when in fact, much of what I shared was done without funding.

So how did we manage to do all the work, from the festivals, football matches, education, conflict resolution workshops, youth projects, working with primary schools and supporting orphans from war, disease and conflicts?

With a lot of belief, work, and determination and in the hope, that United Nations and other organisations see that we are right in the heart of it all.

We had to dig into our own pockets. We strengthened relationships with locals and local activitists. In return, these relationships and our committment became a valuable asset because the people helped.

Still, it was a struggle but we knew, in times to come, funding will come. It was a matter of time.

Is Local Knowledge Essential To Succeeed?

We are right in there, doing the work. If you asked for stats, we got them. If you asked for what problems and solutions needed, we got the information.

If you asked what is needed and show evidence, proof, then we got it all because we are right in there, doing the work and the relationship is built with all the communities.

When it comes to talk about peace, think about conflict as an epidemic which brings disease. When a lot of people are determined to combat it, it can be halted, stopped, prevented.

So when the local activists are determined with the local knowledge they possess to combat conflict, it can be stopped. This is why the local people on the ground, with the local knowledge they possess is really vital to carry on the work.

This is why our organisation has been successful.

You can imagine, just imagine, if suddenly, right now, United Nations, UNICEF and other organisations that do a lot of work, said..

“Here is $1 million funding, go and do the work, document everything, show us exactly what the problems are, how to solve it AND...create the solutions..”

Then believe me when I say this, it will happen with such precision that it will make others wonder, what else we can achieve with such little funding.

What Happened When I Met Poul Hansen
In the Great Lakes region, we can build a strong partnership which has been there for years, in terms of sports for peace and development – with (UNOSDP) United Nation Office on Sport for Development and Peace.

This is one of my vision for FIC.

That is why it was a great pleasure to meet Paul Hansen, Head of Office for (UNOSDP).

“Hi this is Desbon Bushiri, founder and Coordinator of Football Inter Communautaire (football between communities), which uses sport particular football for peace.”

Then Paul Hansen introduced himself and we began to talk.

I asked him about the U.N Peace Keeping Army (MONUC) in DR Congo, an important and largest Peace Keeping in world history.

What’s the criteria of U.N and (UNOSDP) to fund projects working in the field of conflict and peace?
I asked him if his office only funds large organisations, which will be acting as umbrella to get local organisations to deliver the work on the ground or area of conflict.

He replied, “No. For what I understand if there a can be a local organisation, which can show the work, we will certainly partner with him and fund him.

I think it’s better to fund local organisations , who understand and have knowledge of local issues, problems and resources.”

I have a feeling FIC, football between communities vision of doing so much more in the conflict zones e.g. DR Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, and non conflict areas:which needs development to help communities that suffer with hunger and disease.

These communities are within Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and all these countries together are called the Great Lakes Region

As I get ready for the conference and fly over to Austria on Thursday morning, I thought I'd share my thoughts around the five questions that will be asked at the conference.

As well the presentation slide and the media attention the work (FIC) Football Between Communities has been attracting,.

It pays to have a mentor with a lot of skills to tap into. Beats surfing the Internet for hours on end to find out the 'how to.'

When I come back from the conference then the next step is taking the next step which I've discussed with Adam Taha.

I'll be working towards buying a domain name, creating our own customised blog/website and raise the bar. There's a lot of work to do an Adam Taha has really opened my eyes even more.

I'm glad I took the opportunity to get as much time from him because he's already mentioned that his time is limited and will only focus on the people who take their dreams seriously.

We also talked about creating a Facebook fan page and I've already got Adam the administration level for our facebook fan page. That way I can hire his services to create the fan page and he's got full access to add the code for our design.

What I've seen so far is just amazing. I didn't know you can do all the customisation he showed me. Everything is coming together very fast due to mentorship and focus.

I'll update what happened at Austria conference when I'm back.

I went on Youtube to try and find a tutorial and couldn't find any great video tutorials on adding subtitles. It needed to be done.

Some even had music but they didn't show exactly how. That's when I called Adam, and it was solved. He knew which software to use, how to use it, step by step.

The Secret Diary Of Sophina

We (Sophina and me) Adam Taha at his house in Sheffield.

Sophina Hanif gave the diary and agreed that it will help make a difference to the world. This is what Adam said:

“If you keep it to yourself, then sure, it will remind you of what you’ve learn and discovered but..it will not impact the lives of others...”

She agreed that it be best to publish the diary as an ebook, physical and audio to generate cash for the children in Africa.

The background Of The Secret Diary
I took Sophina to Africa, Congo and the moment she landed in Africa, she couldn’t believe was she saw.

It wasn’t the poverty that got her although that was something that took her for surprise. It wasn’t even the many resources and millions going to Africa and yet, the people are suffering and money isn’t going to them.

It was talking to the children and seeing their hearts, their big dreams even when they played football with their bare feet and with handmade football.

The place where the people suffered the most with the Civil war.

It hit her hard because she comes from England and she’s seen how we got everything in England and yet, most don’t fight for their dreams. Most dream and do nothing.

Sophina wrote everyday in a diary on everything she saw to the lives of the children and what she learnt from the people. Not a day was missed.

I’m going to photocopy the pages so Adam sends outsources the work to be typed up. Then it’s creating the marketing strategy, the ebook, the physical book and audio too.

The Next Step
I've made another appointment with Adam Taha and we'll be meeting at his house again. I'll update you all very soon.

How To Use Football To Changes Lives

This is my first blog post!

It's been an amazing journey so far.

I've met Prime Minister Gordon Brown, recieved awards, met superstar football players and books have been written about the work - in using Football to Educate.

It's amazing who you meet on the journey.

One of them is a genius and a master in story telling and very passionate about helping people to get started in making their dreams happen. People that is who are willing to listen, learn and apply.

I have to say this in the time I've known Adam Taha, he never gives time to anyone who doesn't apply or gives some excuse for not doing what they say. That's reasonable especially when he can spend time with other people who are serious.

I've been sitting with Adam for some years now. He's been a great friend and an amazing mentor. He says what he means and doesn't hold back to say how it is.

I feel that's what has been missing in MLM and any business. Instead of hype, it's really what most don't want to hear. That it will take work, learning a skill and as his blog says, "mastery."

His mentorship has speeded up my focus on creating future cashflow ideas to invest into the development of FIC. I don't see anything is impossible in creating funds to help the people in Africa and also the teenagers in England.

I have that believe because I've so many achievements happen and I also remember the days Adam Taha he filled my house with prospects.

It exciting to see the full process.

I enjoy the mentorship and the education system he provides. I'm glad he directs me to more knowledge every time we meet.

I remember when I sat down with him years ago and I shared with him about my dream. It was easy to talk because we know each other now and also he's a big dreamer. Nothing is impossible.

I continued to sit with him and recieve mentorship.

And in making so much more possible.

Using Football To Educate And Inspire
I'm learning to brand myself, creating strategies to create cashflow to help our organisation grow. That's what I really need to attract because it's needed.

One of the reasons is it will help many children and adults in Africa, England and globally. To use football as an education system that will heal, bring communities together. To not rely on funding but my thinking, ideas and creativity.

How Organisations Can Turn Passion Into Profits
One of the important things I learnt from Adam Taha is to not rely on one source of income and not rely on funding. Instead to be an entrepreneur, and create different pipe streams of income.

To turn my knowledge, passion into profits and he showed me how, step by step as I explained on my note pad. He made what seemed so difficult simple to understand.

The Leadership Mindset
The one thing he warned me about, which has got a lot of people is to stay focused and not get distracted by hype. That's there's no secret except getting the marketing skills and create information products that have a solution for a profitable market.

To focus on getting the job done and then to take myself out of the picture and let it run on automation. To use one method of funded proposal. Master one method of attracting customers and then get myself out of the way by automating the process.

He showed me how I have a lot of knowledge, expertise and story to share. Stories and knowledge that can solve people problems who are in my niche.

And to lead with branding me using my stories, knowledge and expertise as a football coach and a developing global projects.

Not everyone meets the Prime Minister and have Prime Ministers write a book and have six pages dedicated to your work.

Not everyone creates global projects and wins awards.

He gave me an insight to what I had and may have overlooked as potential branding and cashflow.

I agreed to turn my knowledge and expertise into tools to inspire, and create future cashflow instead of relying on funding.

We came out with ideas together on how to get the laptops and the radio equipment for Africa. He said it's easy enough if you have influence and the know how.

The Purpose Of My Blog..
I agreed that I needed to start recording everything online and even though I'm starting with blogger, I will take Adam Taha advise on getting my own domain name, get the hosting and seperate myself from the crowd soon.

For now, it is a start to use Blogger to:

Give exposure on how football can be used to educate
To share my knowledge, expertise
To share how football can be used for positive change
How to use the internet to provide easy access for the information and development of Fic
To also educate and provide valuable content to organisations globally
And to provide the steps I am taking to brand and market the work I do using the Internet

FIC Football Between Communities In Africa
I am going to Africa on Friday the 15th January, for the first meeting for FIC project.

It's not the first I've been to Africa but this is really the first meeting to set up new programmes, projects, and to see the overall direction we are going towards.

One of the things we talked about is what type of information to bring back. I liked the idea of a video diary, notes, and photographs too.

To also interview the children there, the workers, the people and let them speak to the world.. As I learnt from one of Adam's article; branding isn't what we say but what people say about us when we leave the room.

I'd like to thank the team, the people in Africa and all who have worked with me. Thank you for your friendship and the work you do inspire people especially the future generation.
