Why I joined SWE: I joined SWE because I wanted to meet other girls in engineering and to get involved with fun activities around campus.

Favorite SWE activity: I really enjoyed the SWE Regional Conference.  It was a great way to get to know more of the SWE members and to get excited about where a career in engineering can take you.

Favorite Place in Madison: State Street, I love all of the delicious restaurants and it’s always fun to people watch.

Interesting Fact about Yourself: I love to waterski, I am a part of the Mad-City Waterski Team which is my favorite part about summer.

Year: Sophomore

Major: Chemical Engineering

Why I Joined SWE: I joined SWE because I wanted to meet girls who had interests similar to mine.

Favorite SWE Activity:  My favorite SWE activity was Regionals- I thought it was so cool to meet girls from other schools in SWE, as well as get closer with UW SWE members.

Favorite Place in Madison:  My favorite place in Madison is the terrace–preferably with Babcock ice cream in hand.

Interesting Fact About Yourself:  I love just being outside. I love to go camping, fishing, and hiking with my friends and family.

Year:  Freshman

Major:  Engineering Physics (Intended)

Why I Joined SWE:  I was the president of a girl’s science and engineering club in high school, so SWE seemed like a perfect way to continue on inspiring more girls to go into STEM fields!

Favorite SWE Activity:  Any type of outreach activity, and special events with SWEsters!

Favorite Place in Madison:  Picnic Point

Interesting Fact about yourself:  I love to run! I love running outside on the lakeshore path, and participating in “fun run” races with friends. I ran three 5Ks last semester, including the Santa Run in downtown Madison!

Year: Freshman

Major: Undecided – either Chemical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering

Why I Joined SWE: I attended Day on Campus last spring, and I knew it was definitely something I wanted to join once I got to Madison.  It’s a great way to meet some fellow women engineers and get involved on campus!

Favorite SWE Activity: Apple Picking and mentoring/study nights with my BSLS family

Favorite Place in Madison: Camp Randall!  Football games were definitely a highlight of my freshman year!

Interesting Fact: I was a diver and a gymnast when I was in high school, and I have three brothers.

Year:  Sophomore
Major:  Undecided – Either Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Why I joined SWE:  I decided I wanted to be an engineer second semester of freshman year, so I wasn’t really involved in any engineering clubs. I heard SWE was good for getting involved, and I am hoping that it helps me decide what type of engineer I want to be.
Favorite SWE Activity: Apple Picking!

Interesting Fact about yourself: I am also in the triathlon club. I did one when I was 14 just for fun, and now I am starting to do them competitively.

Year: Sophomore

Major: Biomedical Engineering

Why I joined SWE: I joined SWE to meet more women in engineering and to be involved in engineering volunteer and networking activities!

Favorite SWE Activity: I am new to SWE this semester, but I’d say my favorite activity has been Girls, Inc.! It has been a ton of fun! I love kids, and it’s awesome to goof off with the girls while also teaching them a little bit about a scientific concept. I enjoyed all the outreach activities this semester! 

Favorite Place in Madison:  I love relaxing on the terrace (as you can see in my picture)! I also have to make a shout-out to my guilty pleasure, QQ Express. I go every week with some friends and eat delicious, but questionable quality, lunches. My advice: get the peanut chicken. 

Interesting Fact about Yourself: I’m one of those crazy couponers and also sign up for all the random free samples I can find online. I’m all about a good deal.

• Major: Undecided Between Mechanical or Electrical or maybe Engineering Mechanics
• Why I joined SWE: When I was little I participated in the Engineering Days for Girl Scouts run by SWE and I always looked up to the girls who helped out. So it was the first club I signed up for here on campus. Plus SWE is a great way to network and it looks good on resumes.
• Favorite SWE Activity: I really like a lot of the special events like going to “Catching Fire.” I also like volunteering for the Girl Scout events because I love to inspire the girls like how past SWE members inspired me to go into engineering and I usually learn a little something every time I volunteer!
• Favorite Place in Madison: Probably any where along the lake. I love to soak up some rays just reading, doing homework, or even rollerblading or biking.
• Interesting Fact about Yourself: I love archery! I have taught archery for almost five years over the summer for a Girl Scout day camp. I own my own bow and participate with the archery club here on campus. So yeah, I am pretty much like Katniss and if you ever want a lesson let me know!!

Year: Freshman

Major: Biomedical Engineering

Why I joined SWE: After attending Day on Campus last spring, I got really excited about everything that SWE had to offer, and I saw what a SWEet group of girls you all were! I decided to join as soon as I stepped foot on campus so I could start meeting other women in engineering and start getting involved.

Favorite SWE Activity: It’s so hard to choose, but I really hiking at Devil’s Lake last fall! I also have a ton of fun playing intramural volleyball.

Favorite Place in Madison: Camp Randall! Who doesn’t love all the tradition, football, and jumping around?!?

Interesting Fact about Yourself: My favorite way to de-stress is to play the piano. If I need a break from all the crazy studying, I just grab some Debussy and Brahms and take out my stress on the keys! I don’t play nearly as much as I want to, but it really is the best way to get away from school.

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Why I joined SWE:  I wanted to become involved with one of the University’s engineering student orgs and after attending an informational dinner on the different orgs available, SWE seemed to be the most fitting for me.

Favorite SWE Activity: I really enjoy volunteering with the community service group and so far my favorite event was SWEethearts. It was enjoyable handing out baked goods to the students once they finished their exam. I think they really appreciated our random act of kindness and it made me feel good to have been apart of it.

Favorite Place in Madison: Definitely the Kohl Center for Men’s basketball games.

Interesting Fact about Yourself: I pole vaulted in high school for our track team and managed to spike myself on a vault which led to four stitches on the side of my right knee.
