What was even greater about that car was that it achieved all of this…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-30.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…without the need for any electronics, it was purely a finely honed, impressively simple mechanical creation. The FD2 is the modern day interpretation of it, a car that while no longer on sale, has beautifully carried over those raw driving characteristics that have further evolved thanks to more engineering and fine tuning, allowing the front wheels to do the impossible. And with a bit more fettling from tuning shops what you see here represents the pinnacle of FF capabilities. The 5Zigen FD2 is and remains the fastest ever FF car to lap Tsukuba Circuit, setting a time of 58.222 sec at the hands of pro driver Takashi Oi. We were actually there when he broke the record back in 2010 and took a little look at the car in the Tsukuba pits – but it has since been further perfected for a future lap record attempt so we could hardly pass up a chance to spend a few hours admiring its details.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-02.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5Zigen have approached the whole project much like they would the race cars that they have been building and racing for decades, which is why it looks very similar to what a Super Taikyu racer would…but far more extreme. You may spot the pumped fenders that barely contain…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-04.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…their original FN01R-C Hot Version wheels, fitted in 9.5Jx18″ +12 sizes all round. Rubber of choice is super sticky 255/40/R18 Dunlop Direzza 03G. One look at the Brembo Racing front 4-pot calipers and you know this car means business, a common set up used in motorsports offering great braking power and lightness to keep unsprung weight in check.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-05.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Civic rides on custom built Endless race dampers running 28 kg/mm springs up front and 22 kg/mm coils at the rear. One off 5Zigen adjustable upper arms allow the ability to set a more aggressive amount of negative camber to help get the most grip out of the Dunlops through the corners. However, as you can probably imagine, without serious amounts of power a 58-sec lap at Tsukuba would be impossible…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-06.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…so after much success with their &lt;a href="http://www.speedhunters.com/2009/12/car_spotlight_gt_gt_5zigen_honda_accord_euro_r/"&gt;CL7 Accord Euro-R&lt;/a&gt; time attack car a few years back, this is what they came up with. The turbocharged K20 in the FD2 develops close to 100 HP more than the unit in the Accord…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-07.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…and that is without the use of nitrous oxide, which hasn’t been plugged in yet.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-09.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The engine has been completely rebuilt with higher performance components starting off with low-compression pistons, that along with a 1.2mm metal headgasket lower static compression down to 9.1:1. Lightweight I-section rods followed together with the finely balanced stock crank. Headwork consists in lots of porting and polishing as well as a valve spring upgrade courtesy of Toda Racing. The iVTEC system has been retained as it helps get good torque in the midrange…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-10.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…thanks to the 1.2 bar of boost the HKS T04S provides. The turbo has been mounted high next to the engine and plumbed in a way to help keep piping as short as possible.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-08.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It may look a little cramped under there but it all works well…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-03.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…including the exhaust system which couldn’t possibly have been made any shorter, dumping hot gasses straight out from the side of the bumper!&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-11.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5Zigen aslo fabricated an air guide…&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-19.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;…that channels air from the hood-top intake down to the turbo. And of course where there’s boost there is always a need for more fuel, taken care of by a set of 1000 cc/min injectors fed by the Bosh fuel pumps you can see further down in the interior shots. In its present configuration the boosted K20 develops 515.7 HP at 7,630 rpm with a pretty impressive peak of 494.2 Nm (364.4 lb/ft) coming in at 6,050 rpm.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-29.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The functional body modifications are purely aimed at increasing the car’s aerodynamic performance and on top of the Igns N-spec kit comprising of FRP front &amp;amp; rear bumpers, side skirts and hood also boasts custom carbon front canards,the 5Zigen fender flares we talked about earlier on and a big Igns rear GT Wing. As you can see it looks right at home through the corners of Tsukuba.&lt;img src="http://speedhunters-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/5Zigen-FD2-17.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The FD2 was handled much like the Super Taikyu racers that 5Zigen prepare, so before anything started the whole car was stripped down to a base shell, fitted with a bolt-in roll cage and reinforced around the front and rear suspension turrets. RevoZport had recently released a preview of two different bodykits offered for the new Civic Type R. The first one involves the removal of the huge rear wing in favour of a more subtle rear end similar to the Civic hatchback. You wait ages and ages for a new &lt;b&gt;Honda Civic Type R&lt;/b&gt;, and well, two arrive almost back-to-back. Yes,&amp;nbsp;scarcely a year after we first drove the current banzai Civic, Honda has just unveiled a concept version of the next-gen car, due to go on sale worldwide in 2017. And once again, it wants a Nürburgring lap&amp;nbsp;record.&lt;/div&gt;

Officially called the &lt;u&gt;Type R&lt;/u&gt; Prototype, the car you’re gawping at is strictly a concept for now (though doesn’t it look production ready?) so there’s nothing in the way of technical data. But we do know it will stay front-wheel drive, both to stick with Type R tradition, and to allow Honda to get its FWD Nordschleife honours back from VW, who nicked them with the&amp;nbsp;Golf GTI Clubsport S.&lt;/div&gt;

And this Civic really is ‘worldwide’. No Civic &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Type R&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; has ever been officially sold in the USA – it’s been a case of import your own at great expense with much tedious paperwork. But because&amp;nbsp;the new Civic hatchback&amp;nbsp;is a global car, aimed at Japan, Europe and indeed the USA, the angry-looking Type R will also land Stateside. It will still be built in Swindon,&amp;nbsp;though.&lt;/div&gt;

Having recently gone to the trouble of building a 306bhp 2.0-litre turbo VTEC powerplant, the new Type R will use that engine. Though we suspect it will be a little uprated to keep pace with the likes of the 345bhp Ford Focus RS, and to give it an edge over the Golf (and perhaps other rivals) for that lap&amp;nbsp;time.&lt;/div&gt;

We’re promised a sharper chassis than&amp;nbsp;ever.&lt;/div&gt;

Drumming up a little excitement for the 2013 FIA World Touring Automotive Championship, Honda brought its new Civic WTCC car to the brilliant lights of Geneva for all to determine. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Honda joined WTCC late last year entering the ultimate three races. The racing outfit will run this year's entire twelve-round season, which kicks off later this month in Italy.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Within the off-season, Honda made some updates to its WTCC entry together with better aerodynamics, improved suspension and braking and varied engine and turbo enhancements. Two teams can field the new Civic racecar during this year's season: Honda Racing Team JAS and a private team from Hungary, Zengo Motorsport.&lt;br /&gt;

First shown as a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995, the production version was launched in April 1999 to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The S2000 is named for its engine displacement of 2 liters, carrying on in the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Though cosmetically similar, the AP2 incorporated significant changes to the drivetrain and suspension. Production of the S2000 ceased in June 2009. In Japan, it was exclusively sold through the Honda Verno sales channel.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The addition of a race-developed information screen has the power to record chassis and engine data also housing a Satellite navigation and audio system. This high tech kit will monitor the automobile over two laps to "learn" a circuit and then record lap information and vehicle tracking using GPS.&lt;br /&gt;

A  glimmer of hope has come from Mugen Euro, who have unveiled a new take  on the FN2 Civic Type R by stroking it to 2.2 litres. Last year 20  Mugen-tweaked CTRs were released in the UK,&amp;nbsp;although no specific  announcements have been made regarding this year's version which&amp;nbsp;has 30%  more power and torque over the standard model.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
Hiro Toyoda, vice-president of MUGEN Euro, commented: "Environmental  pressures mean naturally aspirated engines are rapidly being superseded  by other engine architectures and technologies. Development of the supercharged Honda CR-Z is on track, with performance figures already looking promising.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Early  tests with a prototype car based on a standard CR-Z and a mid-tune  engine have given 0-60mph times around that of the Civic Type R.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After  a further 15 per cent increase in power over this 'stage 1' engine and  with over 50kg reduced from the chassis, overall performance is set to  meet MUGEN's original targets.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
"Early fuel consumption tests have  also been encouraging," says Colin Whittamore from MUGEN Euro. "We've  retained the three driving modes from the standard car and economy  ranges from 50+mpg in 'eco' mode to mid-30 mpg when tapping into the  supercharged power in a special 'MUGEN' mode."&lt;br /&gt;

The owner of the Italian sports car decided to smash it  to show his disappointment with Lamborghini.&lt;br /&gt;

The Lamborghini  Gallardo was bought six months ago, but the engine failed to start on  November 29, 2010. The owner contacted the Lamborghini dealer in Qingdao  and they transported the Gallardo to their maintenance center. The  engine problem wasn't solved, but instead the bumper and chassis were  damaged by the transport. The owner complained by the dealer but they  refused to take responsibility in this matter, so the angry owner  contacted Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, the brand's China  headquarters, its after-sales service manager for Asia-Pacific region,  and the brand's owner Volkswagen Group, but the problem was not solved.&lt;br /&gt;

Angry  about the service, the owner felt his consumer rights were ignored. So  he decided that the best way to gain attention was to destroy his car on  the 15th of March, which is also World Consumer Rights Day. Apparently,  he hired people to publicly destroy his car with hammers and make his  statement. I've  completely lost count of how many times I've hit refresh on my preferred  news outlets or how many hours I've sat wide eyed staring at my  Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook streams waiting for any good news to come  out of the earthquakes, tsunamis and problems with various Nuclear  powerplants.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It has been scenes like this partially submerged and undistinguishable sports car (from&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/03/japan-earthquake-rescue-recovery-and-reaction/100024/" target="_blank"&gt;The Atlantic's In Focus&lt;/a&gt;),  with its Volk Racing wheels and Project Mu brake rotors, which really  touch home for a good portion of us as we waited for news of how the  various tuning shops and racetracks faired in the aftermath.&lt;br /&gt;
Dino has done a great job in updating us with the state of tracks  like Ebisu and Tsukuba through out Facebook page which you can see &lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/Speedhunters/posts/10150180453335809" target="_blank"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;,&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150180455925809&amp;amp;set=a.426876035808.205382.125281815808&amp;amp;comments" target="_blank"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;, &lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/Speedhunters/posts/10150180581585809" target="_blank"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150182119705809&amp;amp;set=a.426876035808.205382.125281815808&amp;amp;comments" target="_blank"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;.  It has been a particularly difficult time for us, as many of the  Speedhunters family and friends have been affected by these tragic  events.&lt;br /&gt;

Cars, shops and racetracks can be repaired, rebuilt, and/or replaced  but the people that are at the heart of these things cannot. We here at  Speedhunters wish the Japanese people the best of luck in the recovery  and rebuilding.&lt;br /&gt;
