The Star Trek Experience

I've had an official Star Trek Experience.

For my birthday, Jeff bought me the series set of Star Trek : The Next Generation. Yesterday, his friend Vic came into town to stay with us for the week and sat down on the sofa while I was watching them. Worf popped up on the screen (he is one of the main characters - he's there a lot!) and Vic goes "Oh I miss him - I should call." Then he pulls out his phone and calls Worf (Michael Dorn) while I'm sitting there watching him on my tv. Strange. Strange. Strange. But so very cool to my little geeky self. Happiness abounds!

Wow. I've been a horrible blogger, but you know what? I really have missed this - writing, friendships, exploring, picture taking. My life has been crazy since July when my job took a turn for the different. It's much more stressful and time consuming, but I'm trying to get my life back on track and that includes my blog among other things.

I hope you've all had a lovely Thanksgiving. We were lucky and Jeff actually had the day off. We had a late lunch at his parents house then watched the Cowboys game. The turkey was good, but I think my favorite part was the deviled eggs and pumpkin pie! Vader even got a bowl of turkey dog food, so he was able to enjoy the day too.

I've spent most of my four days off watching Star Trek : The Next Generation. I love this show and Jeff got me the series set for my birthday. I enjoy it much more than the original Star Trek, but I guess that's because I grew up with Wesley Crusher :)

I plan to be here more often again - Thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Prayers of Agnes Sparrow is the story of an unusual woman, Agnes Sparrow. No longer able or willing to leave her home, where she is cared for by her long-suffering sister Griselda, Agnes has committed her life to the one thing she can do-besides eat. Agnes Sparrow prays and when Agnes prays things happen, including major miracles of the cancer, ulcer-healing variety along with various minor miracles not the least of which is the recovery of lost objects and a prize-winning pumpkin.

The rural residents of Bright's Pond are so enamored with Agnes they plan to have a sign erected on the interstate that reads, "Welcome to Bright's Pond, Home of Agnes Sparrow." This is something Agnes doesn't want and sends Griselda to fight city hall.

Griselda's petitions are shot down and the sign plans press forward until a stranger comes to town looking for his miracle from Agnes. The truth of Agnes's odd motivation comes out when the town reels after a shocking event. How could Agnes allow such evil in their midst? Didn't she know?

Well, the prayers of Agnes Sparrow have more to do with Agnes than God. Agnes has been praying to atone for a sin committed when she was a child. After some tense days, the townsfolk, Griselda, and Agnes decide they all need to find their way back to the true source of the miracles-God.

A lot of my posts lately have been about books, so I thought this quiz might be fun to do now. I borrowed it from L^2 at Dog's Eye View.

01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
I rarely snack while I read - sometimes I will read while I eat dinner. It just depends on life at the moment.

02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I don't mark my books. If something catches me and I want to remember I will mark the page with a post-it note and write it down at a later time.

03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
I always use a bookmark of some kind. You can tell any book I've been reading on a plane because my boarding pass is my bookmark (that way I don't lose my personal ones!)

04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
I prefer fiction, but I will read non-fiction as well.

05. Hard copy or audiobooks?
Both! Lately I've been listening to audiobooks of hard copy books I already own just to have the time to absorb them. (Harry Potter Books 6 & 7) I do prefer to read the books.

06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I always try to read to the end of the chapter, but I will also stop at section breaks if they are available. I can't remember where I stopped if I stop in mid thought process.

07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
I don't usually read things that complicated!

08. What are you currently reading?

09. What is the last book you bought?
Sweet Waters by Julie Carobini

10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
I'm starting to be - I usually have a book at home; a book in my purse and my audio book going now.

11. Do you like re-reading books?
I keep most of my books to re-read them, but I rarely do. The Diary of Anne Frank is one that I've read over and over again.

Jeff & I finally joined up with quite a few of you and got a Netfilx account. We are mostly using the streaming option they have with the XBox 360 but I am also using it to rent movies to watch while he is gone. Right now on streaming I have the series "Dead Like Me" and I have a few older Disney movies (like the Princess Diaries) that I've not seen before in my queue. But I'm looking for more options...

Do you have any movie or TV selections that you think I'd enjoy?

I just finished reading Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. This is the first book in the Temperance Brennan series and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a thrilling, crime story. (The TV Series "Bones" is based on the character of Temperance Brennan) This story doesn't introduce you to the character you are used to seeing on television, but you can sure see the similarities! It's a fairly fast read and I look forward to picking up the next book in this series.

Disney Cruise - Part 3

Friday was our final day on board the Disney Magic, Castaway Cay & our 10 Year Wedding Anniversary. It was an amazingly beautiful day!

We grabbed some breakfast then headed out to Castaway Cay for a little parasailing. It was beautiful and much quieter than my skydiving adventure! Then we headed over to the "adult only" side of the island for a little peace & quiet with our friends. (Yes I have on long sleeves - I told you I was a little lobster!)

After a peaceful afternoon, we headed back to the ship to get ready for dinner. We were able to get reservations in the "adult only" restaurant on board - Palo. It was amazing. Our friends had eaten there earlier in the week and had recommended a server - I'm so glad they did. Ciao was amazing!!! And he made our experience there top notch.

Our Disney Cruise was an amazing experience! I can't wait to go again - And I think I have found my preferred method of vacationing. I miss our friends and I'm grateful that technology will allow us to keep in touch!
