In a world which has gone completely mad, and a country which already forces it’s mortals to pay twice for the same thing, the powers that be at PPL have put their collective heads together and decided to get a piece of the action. Somebody somewhere woke up one morning and thought ‘Hey, how can we make consumers and Mobile Discos pay ongoing annual fees for the material which they have already legally bought’ and decided that in order to create some additional revenue it would charge DJ’s £200 ($350) a year purely for the right to convert one type of media (which they have already bought) to another type of media purely for easier archive and playback purposes.

Yes, fellow Dj’s the age old rumour that you can back up your original CD’s to MP3 format for use on a Hard Drive or Digital based player legally in the UK is FALSE! . Doing so is illegal and likely to risk prosecution despite it being perfectly legal and acceptable in many other European Countries, and America either under Fair Use conditions in local copyright acts or the Home Recording Act of 1992 (U.S.A). So in other words, UK based DJ’s are being singled out, penalised and getting the raw deal once again.

The Digital DJ Licence costs you £200 ($350) and this gives you the right to back up original CD’s to MP3 or other digital format for storage and playback on Hard Drive format (upto a maxium of 20,000 tracks) for use on a PC or Laptop, however like anything else there are conditions and several flaws.

Q) I have a Digital DJ Licence so surely I am now fully covered

False!. The first and perhaps most largest flaw in the Digital DJ Licence is the fact that the PPL licence is only half the story!. In order to remain fully legal you also need permission to convert the tracks from the MCPS as well. The Digital DJ licence only covers the PPL side of the law. As well as buying the Digital DJ Licence you will need to contact the MCPS and obtain a licence from them or risk prosecution. Since the MCPS (at the time of writing) do not have a blanket licence similar to the Digital DJ licence in place nor are they part of this Digital DJ licence, then this is likely to work out very expensive and time consuming once you contact the MCPS and also the individual record labels of all of the artists whose material you are converting in order to obtain permission. Assuming they DO give you permission!. If the MCPS or Record Label decline permission to convert any or all requested tracks and you have already bought the Digital Dj Licence then sadly, you have bought yourself a white elephant.

Q) What Additional rights and facilities does the Digital DJ Licence Offer?

Other than the right to convert your existing original CD collection to a more flexible means of archive and playback, absolutely nothing. You cannot use the digital back up at the same time as your original CD Material, so having two roadshows and using your CD material at one, and Laptop at the other would naturally still be illegal and is not granted under the terms of the Digital DJ Licence.

Personally I believe that making Dj’s pay twice and ongoing for converting material, is simply put, unfair discrimination and an attempt at cashing in on the rights of individuals to choose to use alternate technologies where they are available in their marketplace. Dj’s in other countries are not subject to the same laws and fees, so why should UK DJ’s be charged? – after all, we already pay more than our colleagues in other countries for the original CD’s in the first place, charging us a yearly fee on top of that is just taking the piss. What would happen if everybody was charged an annual fee to own and play their legally purchased CD’s in addition to the cost of the CD’s in the first place? – there would be a public outcry and rightly so.Why should this stealth tax on Digital Dj’s be treated with kid gloves?

Q) But we are DJ’s and using material commercially therefore we should pay

This is a tired point and one which is flawed. If you are going to use this point, then what you are suggesting is that all DJ’s should be paying a yearly fee to PPL to play music where a fee is paid to the DJ. There can be no half measures or discrimination here. Either all DJ’s who work for a booking fee (ie to make money) irrespective of whether it’s a public or private function should pay the same Digital Licence fee every year whether they use CD, MP3 or a PC as a means of medium. Is a Digital Dj any more commercially desirable than a conventional CD or Vinyl one, do they earn more money?, command higher fees? do they deny the artist royalties?

Let me ask you a question, if a DJ buys a CD from the mall, goes home and converts it to MP3 purely because it is a more flexible and prefered method of playback for him / her, then leaves the CD in a cupboard at home whilst they take their laptop / pc to a gig, how is this adversely affecting the artiste who created the music?, is the artiste any worse off financially because of these actions? do they deserve a higher fee to compensate?.

Also remember that any venue we work in has to have an entertainment licence by law, which is payable to PPL, meaning that for playing music at least the PPL already has had it’s pound of flesh!.

Q) How did this legislation get in and why wasn’t I consulted?

Like most new legislation, rumour has it that this one arrived via the back door too. There was appearently DJ’s and DJ Associations who were consulted as to their opinion on the matter and the licence was rumoured to have been constructed around their feedback and requirements. However exactly who was consulted and which DJ Associations remain a mystery because nobody has come forward.

Recent polls on the many DJ Forums, Entertainment Blogs and even the BBC show that the majority of DJ’s are not happy with the licence in its current form.

More information on the Digital DJ Licence and campaigns against this unfair legislation can be found at http://www.dj-forum.co.uk

With comprehensive listings of music executives, producers, publishers, attorneys and more, Ritch Esra and Stephen Trumbull of the Music Business Registry provide vital connections in a rapidly-changing business - a report by The G-Man.

“The difference between success and failure is information,” notes Ritch Esra, and he should know. Along with his partner, Stephen Trumbull, Esra is a leading part of the number one most-reliable source of information on “who’s who” and “who does what” in the music business. Best of all, they can tell you where everybody is located.

FIVE VOLUMES OF DATA.

The Music Business Registry (http://www.musicregistry.com) publishes five directories: the “A&R Registry,” the “Music Publisher Registry,” the “Music Business Attorney Registry” the “Film and Television Music Guide,” and the “Record Producer and Recording Engineer Directory.” For many in the business, these are indispensable reference works.

“The directories give everyone vital, accurate and the most up-to-date information they need to contact the entire A&R, music publishing, legal and film/TV music communities,” Esra states. From comparing notes with dozens of professionals in all of these areas of expertise, I can tell you that no one disputes his claim.

More than one music industry executive has told me that the Music Business Registry publications are worth their weight in platinum. Tess Taylor, president of NARIP (National Association of Record Industry Professionals), says “I couldn’t get through one day without the directories from the Music Business Registry. These publications are the finest in the business.”

Each directory tells you how to reach industry professionals by regular mail, e-mail, direct dial telephone and fax. The books provide each person’s exact title, street address, the name of their assistant and the styles of music in which each executive specializes. Web sites are also included.

UPDATES? YOU WANT UPDATES?

The world of the A&R executive is exciting but ever-changing. Which is to say, there’s a lot of turnover in this part of the industry. So much turnover, in fact, that the A&R Registry is completely updated and reprinted every eight weeks, whereas the publisher volume is biannual and the other books come out yearly.

NEED A PRODUCER? HERE ARE 1,700 OF THEM!

Created in partnership with RPM Direct, the “Record Producer & Recording Engineer Directory” presents 1,700 of today’s leading Record Producers, Recording Engineers & Remixers throughout the US, Canada and Europe in every genre of music. Included in the book are:

(1) Complete contact information for every Producer, Remixer & Recording Engineer along with a list of their credits.

(2) Producer/Engineer/Remixer Management Companies including a complete
staff listing as well as full client rosters.

(3) A Complete Index to easily locate any producer.

(4) Several Interviews and articles with today’s leading Producers & Engineers.

No wonder you can find the Music Business Registry’s publications in the offices of top record company executives, music publishers, artist managers, agents, music attorneys, recording artists, studios and other music business professionals everywhere from Los Angeles to London, New York to Nashville, Chicago to Copenhagen, Toronto to Tokyo, Stockholm to Sydney and Minneapolis to Munich.

As many fans of music know, the lyrical parts of a song are usually the most important and integral pieces to a particular song or piece’s success. Many times these words are the only part of a song that fans will remember or be able to recognize in an instant. In addition, it is common for artists to make the leap into becoming a superstar when they come out with great lyrics for their new hits. But the truth is that not every artist in the world who is selling CDs and concert tickets has great lyrics to their work, or any at all for that matter. You might be wondering, how can music be good without meaningful words, much less having no words at all? This article should help to answer that question and change the common notion that all great music must have unbelievable lyrics as well.

To start out with, it is important to realize that music is not just the songs a person can hear on a radio. In fact, the first pieces of music were almost exclusively played in a concert hall. In this setting, a group of different instruments play in unison to a conductor’s movements. There are no words because quite simply there doesn’t need to be any. Some of the most famous musical work in the world, and oldest at that, is often played in this style. While not popular with the youth today, classical music, as it is often termed, often goes hand in hand with being upper-class. Whether this is a fair pairing or not, that is debatable. But this much is true, many people find deeper meaning and enjoy this style of music without looking for words to accompany they harmony of the instruments!

On the other hand, a popular selection at almost any night or dance club is techno music. Techno music is often generated on a computer, and combines wacky sounding drum beats and other instrumental sounds to make a song that sounds like it was electronically produced. This music has many different beats and often is extremely easy to dance to. While it can have words, it is more common for techno songs to be without any human voices, or to use them sparingly. Even with the absence of almost any words at all, however, techno music remains a popular choice on any dance floor and it would be hard to find a club that doesn’t play at least one song. Indeed there are even some popular techno artists, whose main musical talents lie in creating new beats and remixing past billboard toppers!

All in all, it should be fairly obvious by now that a song doesn’t have to have lyrics to be considered worth listening to. Many different types and genres of music embedded in our society today are, in fact, found without any words at all. Whether it be rich classical music that your grandparents listen to, or fast-moving techno m

Beijing the afternoon of November 2, according to foreign media yesterday reported that the U.S. “New York Times” and CBS News survey, almost all Americans agree that text messaging to drive should be regarded as an offense, as well as half of people believe that hair car message should at least drink-driving penalty.

The survey from October 5 to 8, the pairs of 829 U.S. adults conducted by telephone interviews, and collected relevant data. During the interview, one from the United States, New Jersey 71-year-old resident, said: “If you want to drive on a good opening; if you want to call or send text messages, put the car into the street to stop.”

The survey showed that 97% of Americans support a ban on text messaging to drive, so the consistent high rate of any investigation are very rare. There are 80% of Americans support the right hand-held mobile phone while driving ban.

Another 50% of the respondents felt that people who send text messages to drive should be subject to the same penalties for drink-driving. From the United States, Pennsylvania, a 38-year-old resident, said: “the danger of driving text messaging the same as for drink-driving.” There are 2% of the respondents felt that people who send text messages to drive the punishment should be received by more than drink drive even more serious.

But there was a 31-year-old from the United States, California residents have raised objections, he said: “The car did send text messages should be considered as illegal, because you looked at while driving should concentrate on the road, but I do not think it should be the with the crime of drunk driving, because text messaging when driving is not completely interfere with the attention. “that send text messages should not be driving for drink-driving with the crime of respondents accounted for 43%.

Americans are mobile phones distract the driver’s attention in recent years, concern has increased. This year that the hand-held mobile phone calls should be regarded as an offense accounted for 80% of respondents compared with 2001 ABC News survey (69%) has improved. However, specific to the drivers to use hands-free mobile phone calls, the attitude of the respondents were changed. 70% of the respondents believed that the use of mobile phone hands-free calls while driving is no problem, which is ABC News survey in 2001 were flat.

This seems to indicate that Americans generally believe that the use of mobile phone hands-free phone safer than hand-held mobile phone calls. Two-thirds of respondents believed that using a mobile phone hands-free calls while driving is more secure, and nearly 90% of users believe that such actions should not be regarded as an offense.

Research shows that driving a cell phone is a very dangerous behavior, while the hands-free calls will not reduce this risk.dvd recorder decoder, leather race suit,

Yamaha electric guitar is very durable. However, some of its parts can be damaged by normal wear and tear. One of the most common parts that can be easily damaged is the output jack. The output jack of Yamaha guitar is frequently used. Cables are being plugged into it. After playing a tune, you will definitely unplug the cable so you can keep the guitar in its case.

Once the output jack has been damaged, there is nothing you can do but to replace it with a new output jack. Fortunately, replacing a damaged jack is easier than you think. So here are the steps to repair damaged electric guitar output jack.

1. Prepare the things that you will need. You will use a drop cloth, plenty of newspapers, soldering iron, electric tape, screw driver, and thick gloves.

2. Prepare your workplace by spreading the old newspapers on the floor. This is to avoid damaging your floor or carpet when you start soldering.

3. Unscrew the damaged output jack from the body of your Yamaha guitar. You have to pull out the jack until the connecting wires can be exposed.

4. Before you disconnect the wires from the damaged output jack, you have to remember where each wire is connected.

5. Disconnect the wires by melting the solder connections then reconnect them to the new output jack. Solder these connections and return the jack to its original position.

Another good thing about Yamaha guitars is that the parts are widely available. So even if your Yamaha electric guitar has a minute damage only, you need to replace the damaged part immediately in order to prevent bigger problems

You can now use your repaired Yamaha electric guitar and play your favorite music again.

Some things just never go out of style. Blue jeans and T-shirts. They’ve changed very little over the past 50 years. Sure, they endure phases ranging between menacingly large and precariously scant, but for the most part they are a staple of modern day attire and are a pretty safe bet.

Be warned that most fashion is not this way. It is commonly known that one should never chuck yesterday’s styles in the bin. This is because the universe, extraordinarily goofy as it is, has created the mystic fashion-recycling program, known to seers as “Trend Reincarnation.” This perplexing phenomenon manifests itself in the miraculous reappearance of such cosmic foibles as platform shoes, tie-dyed shirts and (shudder) powder blue polyester bellbottom tuxedos.

The catch is you have to hold on to these garments for 20-30 years until they are supernaturally reinstated to popular acceptance.

Shucks. If only I knew this tidbit at the tender and impressionable age of six, I would have stored my Star Wars pyjamas and Scooby Doo underoos in a cryogenic vault for successful and stretched reappearance in my late twenties. Alas. I do have a few pairs of my mom’s old hip-hugger bellbottoms from the early-seventies, along with an original “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” T-shirt, circa 1967. And though those charming antiques are older than I, remarkably they are the height of current fashion!

My MTV generation, “Gen-X,” has seen fashions come and go as fast as a radio jockey can change a record. Or is that reel-to-reel? Tape? 8-track? CD? DVD? MP3? Blue-Ray? Sheesh, in my short 29 years on this planet I have gone through more than eight playback mediums!

I can unflinchingly confess to a simpler time when we’d drive our olive green leaded gas “boat-mobile” with artificial snakeskin trim to the beach listening to the fresh sounds of Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Madonna, Michael Jackson and other 80’s greats. Soon enough MTV had new replacements on the top forty and we moved on.

I was driving my new non-snakeskin foreign import SUV along the other day when some familiar sounds came through the car speakers. There was my old pal, Stevie, singing about love lost with a … what’s that? Techno beat!?!

It seems a new fad is to take old 80’s tracks and spruce them up with heavy techno beats and booming bass. My goodness, anyone from ABBA to Elvis have been recycled by techno geeks! Elvis didn’t die, they just stuck him in the blue bin!

Then there are comebacks I never would have expected in a million years. Purple-haired, gum-smacking 80’s icon Cindy Lauper has recently been recycled with a new album of sultry jazz covers. On the idea of recycling music, the now-50-year-old artist said, “a song is like a dress… you try it on, you can’t wear that dress sometimes because we’re not all built the same so you have to take it in here, let it out there.” Sage wisdom from the girl who just wanted to have fun back in ‘84.

My mother realised she was getting old when she heard “Stairway to Heaven” on an easy listening station. Just recently I heard a real heavy punk tune from my childhood on a tame CBC Sunday afternoon program and simultaneously my life flashed before my eyes.

In any event, I can safely say that there are some classic bands that will never go out of style. Maybe they’re not on the top-40, but they’re still tops in our collective musical consciousness. The symbolic “T-shirts” of pop music culture, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, are just as hip, groovy, and totally bitchin’ now as they were back when those words actually meant something.

What’s next, you ask? Well, it won’t be something I haven’t heard already!

Secondly, they are not a solo artist as the first person context of their name suggests, but in fact a twenty-eight piece ensemble of singers and musicians. So, why all the subterfuge?

Group founder and lead singer Emanuel Lundgren says he took the influence for the name from the favoured catchphrase of Manuel, the incompetent Spanish waiter (played by Andrew Sachs) in the iconic ’70s British comedy TV series, Fawlty Towers.

Imagine how fitting it was then when Lundgren gathered up the “I’m From Barcelona” troops to play a show as part of the Primavera Sound Rock Festival in 2006 – located, as luck would have it, in the heart of Barcelona!

Lundgren is not the only musician to have embraced the name and spirit of Spain’s second largest city through his art, however. Barcelona was also the lyrical theme (and title) of the second solo album to be recorded by the late Queen frontman and singer, Freddie Mercury. The song of the same name went on to become one of Mercury’s biggest solo hits when it got a posthumous release to coincide with it being chosen as the theme song of the 1992 Olympic Games.

So not only is Barcelona apparently quite appealing to the musician in a literal sense, but also more and more in a physical sense, with the city playing host annually to two major music events during the summer months – the aforementioned Primavera Sound Rock Festival, and the Sonar Music Festival.

Each festival is quite distinctive in its musical tendencies, and often the two will appeal to and cater for completely different audiences. Primavera Sound tends to lean towards post-rock and more avant-garde and underground acts, and was headlined in 2007 by The White Stripes, The Fall and Sonic Youth, who played their seminal 1988 album Daydream Nation in its entirety. Other underground heroes such as Melvins, Slint, Dirty Three and Blonde Redhead were also present at the festival, along with more traditional rock acts such as Billy Bragg and The Good, The Bad & The Queen.

href=”http://photobucket.com” target=”_blank”>Alternatively, Sonar tends to focus on more electronic forms of music such as dance, drum ‘n bass, as well as hip-hop, and saw high profile sets this year from Beastie Boys, Chemical Brothers, Bjork and LCD Soundsystem. As opposed to many other large European festivals, Sonar is ideal for those who are prefer sleeping in a comfortable bed, rather than under canvas in the great outdoors as the event is solely city based; the hotels in Barcelona range from the cheap and cheerful, to the outwardly extravagant, and are perfect for those festival-goers not so keen on the more traditional forms of music festival accommodation.

Nelly Furtado is a Canadian author/composer/interpret.

Nelly Furtado was born on December 2 1980 at Victoria (capital of British Columbia in Canada) from Portugese parents. Nelly Furtado parents named her “Nelly” because of the Russian gymnastic champion Nellie Kim who won 5 gold medals (3 in 1976 and 2 in 1980) and 1 silver (in 1976) at the Olympic games.

Nelly Furtado learned to play the trombone, the guitar and the ukelele at the age of 9 years old and synthesizer at the age of 11. Passionate by music since her early age, Nelly Furtado already knows at the age of 4 years old she wants to become singer. Nelly Furtado sung with her mother at the choir, especially during the national day of Portugal. Nelly Furtado speaks fluently Portugese, English, Hindi and Spanish.

Since she is a teenager, Nelly Furtado starts to write songs and belong to a brass band. During this period, Nelly Furtado listens to R&B, hip hop, alternative rock, alternative hip hop, trip hop, fado, bossa nova and Indian music. The artists that Nelly Furtado like (and influenced her) are Jeff Buckley, Caetano Veloso, Amalia Rodrigues, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cornershop, Mariah Carey, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Digable Planets, De La Soul, Radiohead, Oasis, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Verve, U2, and Beck.

Nelly Furtado thanks her parents to have taught her hard working and ethic. Indeed, Nelly Furtado has spent 8 summers working as chambermaid with her mother. Nelly Furtado declares that coming from this background has positively contribute to forge her personality.

During a visit in Toronto, last summer, Nelly Furtado met Tallis Newkirk, member of hip hop band named “Plains of Fascination” and have contributed to their album in 1996 “Join the Ranks” on title “Waitin’ 4 The Streets”. After achievement of her studies in Mount Douglas Secondary School in 1996, Nelly Furtado leaves for Toronto where she finally formed duo/group Nelstar in 1997 with Newkirk. The experience has brought her back to her influences and allowed her to be more confident in the writing of her melodies and rhymes. Despite, “Like”, one of the Nelstar songs, received a subvention from VideoFACT to cover the production of the clip, Nelly Furtado estimated the duo didn’t reflect her personality and didn’t allow to demonstrate her vocal competences. Therefore Nelly Furtado quits the music band with the idea to come back to Victoria.

Before leaving, Nelly Furtado decides to take part to a contest (quite famous at that time), the “Honey Jam” which takes place at Lee’s Palace, a nightclub. Impressed by her performance, singer Gerald Eaton (Alias Jarvis Church) from band (The Philosopher Kings) offers Nelly Furtado a collaboration. It results a sample with participation of another member of The Philosoper Kings, Brian West. But Nelly Furtado leaves to travel in Europe and wanted to go to university to take courses about writing. Finally, Nelly Furtado comes back working with them and signs a contract in 1999 with DreamWorks Records.

Nelly Furtado continues to work with Eaton and West, who co-product her album, “Whoa, Nelly!” (….On The Radio (Remember The Days), Baby Girl, Hey, Man!, I Will Make U Cry, I’m Like A Bird, Legend, My Love Grows Deeper Part 1, Party, Scared Of You, Trynna Finda Way, Turn Off The Light, Well, Well), released in October 2000. The success comes from the singles I’m Like A Bird, Turn Off The Light, and …On The Radio (Remember The Days). Nelly Furtado album was nominated 4 times at the Grammy Awards in 2002. But Nelly Furtado has only received the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “I’m Like A Bird”, her first single. Moreover, Nelly Furtado has received a good critic for her innovative mix of various styles with different sounds. Then Nelly Furtado did a tour called “Burn in the Spotlight” and also the one of Moby, “Area:One”.

The second album, “Folklore” (Build You Up, Childhood Dreams, Explode, Forca, Fresh Off the Boat, Island of Wonder, One-Trick Pony, Picture Perfect, Powerless (Say What You Want), Saturdays, The Grass Is Green, Try), is released in November 2003. The album shows more diverse sounds, a more rock approach, an acoustic approach. As Nelly Furtado concentrated more on the writing, the BBC estimated that there was double more originality than in her first album. Nelly Furtado has attributed the maturity of her album to the fact she was pregnant most of the time of the recording.

Her title Força (which means courage and strength in Portugese) which is on her album Folkore was used for the European Football Championship in 2004 which took place in Portugal, at Lisbon. Força was sung during the final. However Dreamworks Records is sold to Universal Music during the release of Nelly Furtado album and that is why there wasn’t much promotion. In 2005, Nelly Furtado is taken by Geffen Records because Dreamworks definitely closes.

Nelly Furtado should be soon seen in an independent film on Iraq war. The movie is called Nobody’s Hero. But Nelly Furtado also prepared “Loose” at the same time that the filming. Nelly Furtado has also tried to make a film in Hindi but it didn’t make it.

Nelly Furtado just releases “Loose” (Afraid, All Good Things (Come To An End), Do It, Glow, In God’s Hands, Maneater, No Hay Igual, Promiscuous, Say It Right, Showtime, Te Busque, Te Busque (Spanish Version), Wait For You) in June 2006. The first Nelly Furtado single is “Maneater” for Europe and Promiscuous (feat. Timbaland) in America. Anybody needs to know there are different versions of this album according to the countries. Chris Martin, leader of group Coldplay, was to make an appearance in song “All good things (come to and end)”, but it didn’t make it, which has regretted the singer. Nelly Furtado has also collaborated with Juanes on her song “Te Busque” which we can also find a version in Spanish. Nelly Furtado has already done a duo with him on title “Fotografia” from album “Un Dia Normal” of the Colombia singer.

“Loose” is the Nelly Furtado album the most successful of her career, reaching #1 in several countries including the US and Canada. The singles “Promiscuous” and “Maneater”, are also ranked #1 in the US, Canada and the UK.

According to rumors, the next Nelly Furtado single should be “Say It Right”.

Nelly Furtado has had a child, just before “Folklore”, whose name is Nevis (born September 20 2003 at Toronto, in Canada).

The father is her ex boy friend, DJ and producer Jasper Gahunia alias Lil’Jaz. Nelly Furtado and Gahunia, who are separated in 2005, were together during 4 years and friends during many years before that. Nelly Furtado wanted to rise up Nevis at Toronto due to the cultural diversity, open minded and political activism of the city.

1. Having no clear direction for yourself as an artist.

No matter what talents a person has, you must have some type of plan or goals for the use of that talent. The more talented and skilled you are, the evident it is that your talent has a purpose. Many artists never take the time out to set a plan for themselves as artists. Could be taking a class to improve your skills, or getting X amount of paid projects per month. The point is, set a plan and then work that plan.

2. Not having a web presence to show your work.

It’s a shame that many artists strike up conversations with people interested in their work, yet they can’t send this person anywhere on the web to view their portfolio. What’s worst is that many of those same artists use the net everyday. In this day and age, the person who can connect with prospective clients the fastest is the artist that has either a paid or free internet portfolio that promotes you as an artist.

3. Not clearly identifying your audience.

Many other business people make this mistake quite often. When you invest anything in order to advertise or market yourself as an artist, you must be sure that you know “who is MOST LIKELY to do business with you. What is the average age? What is their average income? What do they like about your work, etc? The answers to these and a few other questions allow you to target your marketing strategy to those most likely to respond.

4. Not following up with people who’ve expressed interest in their work.

An artist that sells their work or services is a business person. Following up with an email or phone call with prospects just makes good business sense.

5. Not keeping in contact with former clients.

Who else to buy your work now than someone that has already bought from you.
