I have just received the pictures of this rather excellent attic flat which I went to see last week. It is currently 1.5 bedrooms as one of them converts into a part of the large open plan living room and there is a kitchen and bathroom with jacuzzi bath. This guest blog was written for the CV35 website last year by me and examines current problems with employment and entrepreneurship and business growth in Spain and looks at some ideas to address them.

Graham writes: “I thought I would start this little article on work in Spain by telling you a few salient facts about Spain:”

Work in Spain

1. Unemployment currently stands at 22.9%. I estimate a rate of 25-26% within a year if nothing is done due to the swinging cuts being proposed.

2. To set up your own business costs an initial monthly cost of at least 450 Euros with an on-going monthly cost of 350 Euros, even if you do not require office space or a place of work. Compare this with the UK where self employment costs 120 pounds per year or Holland where it is 240 Euros per year!

3. If you are self-employed, you do not qualify for any unemployment benefit if things don’t work out.

4. Entrepreneurs risk everything on starting up a business because if the business fails then they are labelled failures and never again will they be able to get funds for a second attempt – as they are placed on the credit blacklists for the rest of time.Most business successes are born out of previous failure. It is highly unusual for someone to hit a home run first time out. The penalties for failure are too onerous in Spain and discourage experimentation. People stick to proven formulae rather than trying something new.

Lovely Valencia Top Floor Flat at a reduced price

This flat has now been reduced by 17000 Euros to 133000 Euros. An excellent ready to move into flat in Valencia in a good area by the tennis club in Ayora. It is a top floor with huge possibilities for extension, very high ceilings and a loft space available, and has two bedrooms, office, living area and lovely kitchen and bathroom. A small balcony faces east getting the morning sun and you don't need to do anything to it. Just move in with your toothbrush. I have always liked this place and now it is at a cheaper price I like it even more. (Oh and the facade is a newly painted purple now)

Visiting Mojacar

I am on the Spanish road trip going down here and my first stop was in Mojacar. I was here to check out a Hotel that we have the sale in the town. It's a spectacular Hotel at a spectacular price. However I was blown away by the town itself, it is a lovely Andaluz white village set in the hillside overlooking the sea. Take a look at the pictures and if you're interested get in touch about the hotel. A decent business in a beautiful town doesn't come along every day.

Weatherproofing your home in Spain

If you own a house in Spain, you would well aware that, just like your old property, or family home, back in the UK or Ireland, the property needs maintenance from time to time and needs to be kept in good order.

This is for a variety of reasons and not just to keep it looking nice, although that is of course one major factor in having repairs and painting done, but a more important factor is to keep it weatherproof.

Many people new to Spain come with the false illusion that it’s hot and sunny all year round, however Spain is a large and very diverse country and no two areas have the same weather, in fact it can get quite cold and wet during the winter time.

The Spanish Property Magazine For iPad on YouTube

The tech behind this video is great but just to give you the basics of what it is first, this video is Spanish Property Magazine on the iPad demonstrated by me :-). The bit about the tech though for anyone wanting to do it themselves is as follows.

Install Reflection app on your Mac from www.reflectionapp.com. Open the app and then go to your iPad and find iTunes. On the airplay button choose your Mac and toggle the "Allow Mirroring" tool button to on.

You should then see the display on your Mac.

Turn on Screenflow if you already have it (If you don't you can get it here) and start recording your screen.

Change to fullscreen and start the recording. (You can edit out the first few seconds later)
