–Senator David Vitter is confronted by a rape victim after voting against an amendment that would withold contracts from companies that do not allow their employees from taking sexual assault cases to court.

–In a softball interview with Chris Wallace from Fox News, Rush Limbaugh says he thinks Sarah Palin is ready to be President.

–Levi Johnston, the father of Sarah Palin’s grandson, has come out against the family, and recounts when Sarah Palin would ask where her retarded kid is.

–Keith Bardwell, the Louisiana Justice of the Peace who refused to marry interracial couples, has stepped down.

This Week’s Topics:

–New television affiliate PTV in Youngstown, Ohio

–Horace Cooper, a multi-time Midweek Politics guest, lawyer, and political commentator is indicted for involvement with Jack Abramoff and other corruption charges.

–The US could see $5 billion if the 2018 or 2022 World Cup came to the US, but it is not clear whether conservatives would rally against it, as they did against the Olympics coming to Chicago, if President Obama gets involved.

–Check writing, and why no one should write checks anymore, including that it’s incredibly slow, a top way to have your identity stolen, expensive if you lose your checkbook, and a huge annoyance to anyone waiting in line behind you.

–Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid decides to put the public option back into the bill to be voted on, including an opt-out option for states, rather than making states have to opt-in, but is the public option even real reform at this point, given that the insurance companies have gotten everything they want.

–The public option is not the liberal, radical option, but rather a moderate alternative to single-payer healthcare, and Congressman Anthony Weiner makes the media rounds to make exactly that point.

–Joe Lieberman, who many claim is with the Democrats on everything except for the war, says he will not support any healthcare bill with a public option, and will support filibustering such proposals.

–On CSPAN, utter incompetence as callers on Medicare and the VA healthcare program complain that they don’t want the government getting involved in their healthcare.

–It turns out many Republicans in Congress are already on the same type of public option that they oppose.

–Analyzing whether dental insurance even makes sense, similar to many of the available healthcare plans.

–The ongoing Fox News White House war that has continued to escalate, with more bitterness from Fox News anchor Chris Wallace and comparisons between Fox News and Islamic Jihadists.

–A Dallas cop gives a woman a ticket for being a non-English speaking driver, although there are no laws against it, and it turns out it is common in Texas, although it is not a law.

–A Hotel owner who insisted in referring to his Hispanic employees by more Anglo names.

–The Taliban in Afghanistan is trying to get soldiers addicted to heroin to hinder their mission there.

–Sarah Palin’s book royalties are sky high, especially considering she did not write the book.

–Nordic countries, led by Norway, have the most gender equality when it comes to income, wellbeing, education, and more.

Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Luke Slott. Luke Slott is a musician from Dublin, who has just released his first CD “Don’t Go Back To Sleep“. He is now in the US working on a second CD project with the producer Kelly Snook. Before playing the interview, I play a clip from CSpan on the subject of the US Congress House Resolution 1008 that condemns the persecution of the Baha’is in Iran. The first speaker is Democratic representative Mark Burman of California. He is the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. The second speaker is Republican representative Steve Chabut of Ohio. The resolution was passed in the House of Representatives in August 2008.

–Senator Kyl doubts that anyone in the US dies from lack of health insurance, even with a recently released poll saying about 45,000 people year do.

–New Democrat Arlen Specter is upset that Republicans simply are not cooperating on healthcare.

–Looking at continued public support for a public option, most recently at 57 percent and higher.

–Recent Fox News specials, one involving Glenn Beck and a hand-picked audience of anti-public option doctors, and a recent segment promoting a global warming movie that suggests it would be nice if the Earth warmed by a few degrees.

–Following up on the White House criticism of Fox News, including with Obama advisor David Axelrod.

–Rush Limbaugh is gone from the group of people interested in buying the St Louis NFL team, while Ann Coulter says players would rather play for Rush than for a Nazi collaborator, whom she says was also in the buying group.

–Numerous racist incidents, including an Illinois high school teacher warning his students that tax money may go to what he called black fags in New York City.

–Another racist incident where Louisiana justice of the peace Keith Bardwell refused to marry an interracial couple, something he says is par for the course for him.

–South Carolina Republicans refer to penny-pinching Jews in what they thought was a compliment to Jews and a defense of Senator Jim DeMint’s comments.

–Liz Cheney’s Keep America Safe ad, which alleges that MSNBC hosts are afraid to have her on, even though she has been on their programs countless times.

Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Barbara West. Barbara West is 91 years old and lives in California. Barbara’s mother, Ramona Allen Brown (1889-1975), became a Baha’i when Barbara was an infant, by going to teas hosted by Helen Goodall and her daughter Ella Goodall Cooper. The tea group was called the peaches and Barbara was referred to as the baby peach. Ramona Brown authored the book about her experiences with ‘Abdu’l-Baha when he was in the country in 1912 called Memories of ‘Abdu’l-Baha. After Barbara’s children were grown up, she traveled with Tony Lee’s Tours which arranged travel tours to Baha’i holy sites around the world.

After the interview I play 2 parts of a 7 part series of Oprah Winfrey interviewing Rainn Wilson, star in the hit sitcom series The Office.

–The White House specifically attacks Fox News, a move that likely has little possible upside and only possible negative consequences, and how it opens the White House up to significant criticism.

–The Senate Finance Committee approves a health care reform bill, with Olympia Snowe as the only Republican voting in favor, although the bill contains no public option, and Olympia Snow may lose political capital for having voted in favor.

–President Obama says the committee vote does get us closer to a better healthcare situation, while GOP Chairman Michael Steele insists that it’s a bad idea, while Joe Lieberman says no public option.

–A four month old baby, having never eaten anything but breast milk, is denied health insurance coverage for being too fat.

–Glenn Beck thinks non-citizens should not be included in the 2010 census.

–Rush Limbaugh’s potential NFL football team ownership is not received well by the NFL, as well as many players and owners.

2009 Mayoral Debate

Valley Free Radio, WXOJ-LP 103.3 FM, in conjunction with Northampton Community Television hosted the 2009 Northampton Mayoral Debate, sponsored by Herrell’s Ice Cream and theLeague of Women’s Voters of the Northampton Area. The 2009 Northampton Mayoral election candidates, Northampton Mayor Clare Higgins and City Councilor Michael Bardsley, and a three-member panel were moderated by the national talk radio host of Midweek Politics, David Pakman. The debate was held at the Northampton High School Auditorium on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, beginning at 7 pm.

The debate was also supported by community groups including Commonwealth Center for Change (C3), Pioneer Valley Young Democrats, and many others. The event was taped live and will be re-broadcast every Wednesday beginning at Noon.

Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Tom Price. Tom grew up in southern California. Tom’s initial life goal was to become a lawyer, but circumstances prevented him from pursuing that career. Instead he found himself in Australia, where he studied music and became quite successful as a music producer there. Tom moved back to the US in the late 80’s. Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Marry-Anne Graham. At a very early age, Mary-Anne was drawn to the church community even though her parents were not. In high school she became a Southern Baptist. She ran into the Baha’i Faith in her 20’s. She tells the story of how she was able to transcend her fundamentalist Christian beliefs to become a Baha’i. She is currently completing her B.S. in Elementary Education; lived in China for over a year and taught English at two universities; she is on the Board of Directors of MicroSteps, a non-profit that provides educational opportunities to under-served populations; and she is on the Board of the Sino-Judaic Institute, a non-denominational, non-political and non-profit organization which was founded in 1985 by a group of international scholars and lay persons for the purpose of promoting understanding between Chinese and Jewish peoples and to encourage and develop their cooperation in matters of mutual historic and cultural interest.

–Roman Polanski is arrested in Switzerland, and the controversy is brewing.

–Analysis of the arguments for and against the current arrest and expected legal proceedings, including arguments that he has been arrested on an arcane technicality.

–Is there any getting around the fact that Polanski fled the legal system after admitting to raping a girl?

–Young children in school are being taught songs involving praising Barack Obama, and something about it seems creepy and deceiving. We listen to the songs and discuss the political leanings of teachers.

–Congressman Trent Franks calls President Obama the enemy of humanity based on abortion-related politics. Franks is the same Congressman who asked specifically to see Obama’s long form, not short form, birth certificate in order to believe he can legally be the President of the US.

–The amazing Republican silence after not only Franks’ comments, but many other outrageous ones from Republicans, as well as Democratic silence in similar situations.

–Clips from Glenn Beck rallies on the west coast, including amazing responses from people when asked if they believe Beck that Barack Obama hates white people.

–In talking about President Obama’s dropping approval rating, little is mentioned about other key politicians on both sides of the aisle.

–A right-winger conference hosts a speaker who says we are currently living under Nazism in the US, and that activists should have their guns ready for a bloody battle with Barack Obama the Nazi.

–Ann Coulter claims Obama Hitler posters were created by liberals in disguise to agitate at tea parties.

–Richard Dawkins, well known biologist and atheist, responds to a question about what if he is wrong about there being no God at a recent public appearance.

Warren Odess-Gillett interviews Mahnaz Javid. Mahnaz came to the US from Iran as an exchange high school student. After the Islamic revolution in Iran, Mahnaz ended up staying in the US. She is a co-founder of the educational service organization called the Mona Foundation, named after a Baha’i high school student by the name of Mona Mahmudnizhad, who was executed in Iran for her beliefs.

–Louis’ upcoming self-defense training, and a woman eating while on a treadmill.

–Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort, the inventor of the bananas is God theory of creationism, are coming out with a new introduction for Darwin’s book The Origin of Species for its anniversary publishing, which links Darwin to Hitler.

–We look at the banana theory first-hand in studio and discuss yet another comparison to Hitler.

–Muammar al-Gaddafi is in the US for the UN assembly, is not allowed to sleep in a bedouin tent in Central Park, and is blaming Israel for everything under the sun, including Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy’s assassinations, all while reading it from what looks like a speech written with charcoal on lambskin for paper.

–Hypocritical reporting on support for being in Iraq and Afghanistan from the usual suspects in the media, failing to mention that they are wars that were even more unpopular under George W. Bush, not to mention having been started by him.

–American doctors overwhelmingly support a healthcare system where a public option exists in combination with private insurance options, although you’ll be hard pressed to hear about it in most media.

–Senator Judd Gregg dismisses the poll in such a way to indicate the doctors surveys don’t even understand the healthcare system.

–A parody video by some actors and actresses related to healthcare spread virally on the internet, but apparently some Republicans didn’t get the memo that it was only a parody, and used many of the lines from the video.

–Senator Max Baucus submits a possible health care bill that neither Republicans nor many Democrats are even interested in supporting.

–Fox News, Bill O’Reilly, and Chris Wallace are upset that President Obama did not include Fox News Sunday in his round of interviews this week, even while they ran a promo asking if Obama’s healthcare plan is worse than cancer.

–CNN’s Black in America series moving to Latino in America, and how much further?

–Birther Orly Taitz continues her string of lawsuits and bizarre television interviews.

–The House votes to extend unemployment benefits even further
