And it definitely pays to know what kind of bills are being passed by the representatives you put in office. You thought your job was done when you left the polls? Silly…

Now pay attention.

Here are two specific issues that I consider worthy of yours…

1. SCR4007 Approving a constitutional convention

SCR4007 is a concern. Don’t get me wrong I’d like to but a cap on the federal debt more than ever. But is a con-con the best way? Does the average Joe know what a con-con entails and the dangers it could pose to our Constitution? Doubtful… Article V of the U.S. Constitution does not limit what could be done at such a convention. There’s a reason why con-cons are not really popular. I try to trust my reps to protect and enforce the Constitution. But sorry guys and gals, given the track record for representatives across the board, I’m not really ready to give them an opportunity to rewrite our Constitution! It’s not as far-fetched as you would think.  Here’s a novel idea…why not try upholding the Constitution as is? Seems to me we’d be in less of a hurt bag if we would have paid more attention to it in the first place…

Oppose the con-con. States should enforce, not revise, the Constitution!

2. SB2309 State Nullification of Obamacare

This is some good news. Refreshing actually! ND state legislators want to keep the federal government in check. Let’s face it…not a bad idea on most, if not all, counts. This bill basically states that the health care bill is unconstitutional and that ND will not recognize it. And we’ll sock you with a penalty if you try to enforce it in our state. Pretty straight forward. I like it. It’s got some teeth; ) But it’s up to you, me, and the rest of ND and America to support bills like this. We need to let our reps know that this is a good one. Call em. Email. Get the word out. Stickers for these sponsors ; )

So pay attention folks. It’s your civic responsibility. Remember that.

Call your reps and senators and let them know what you think of these and other bills and resolutions. They need to hear from us. We are North Dakota.

and FYI: North Dakota (in 2001) was one of 16 states that have passed resolutions to rescind all previous Con-Con calls.
