I just heard about this over the weekend and when I first heard of it I kind of rolled my eyes in the back of my head. It seems like all the anti-food documentaries and what not have been infultrating the minds of to many around my house anyways. MSG was one big issue, than cows and chickens and the latest I have heard is about this "Pink Slime".

On the MSG issue I bought into that for awhile but than I saw this missionary show called "Travel the Road" where the locals were eating monkey meat (I believe it was) and they were putting MSG on it as if it were a salt. I was like this is not good. Don't they know that MSG kills you? So then I checked further in on it and MSG isn't nearly as bad as all that has been worked up on it. All you have to do is get the other side of the story from reputable sources. I am not saying I agree with wikipedia and believe it is the end of all arguments but I found some links off of wikipedia to some studies and a European food safety source and a Mayo Clinic article. I can't remember all the sources but all I am saying is get the whole story not just one movie documentary that is itself competing for your attention as much as any other "good" cause is. In fact you will see that in the videos below they happen to have a "good" cause also. I do not judge the motives of those who are making these documentaries and I believe they really believe what they believe but I am not all that sure if they are being entirely accurate. I also understand that these food companies have their biases too but please be open enough to not judge their motives and believe for a moment that perhaps they genuinely believe in their "good" cause also. It is true that money is a motive in both the movie making industry and the food industry but there are customers to serve in both of these legitimate industries without which no one makes anything and it is important that we customers are not being biased for or against something until we have the whole story. I do not believe most of us check into the other side of the story (myself included) before we begin biasing those around us with what we just heard as the truth.

And so in that spirit here is a bit of the whole story after you have watched or heard of "Food, Inc."'s side of the story and others on "Pink Slime".

Pick Rick!!! Says James Dobson and a slew of other social conservative leaders

I had always liked Huckabee and was disappointed after he dropped out. And it took some time to find one to fill that void of a true social conservative candidate to vote for. I understand that he is not the perfect candidate but is clearly more solid on Faith, Family and Life issues than Romney is and has been. If Romney wins I will support Romney but I am now with Santorum as the social conservative issue president. Santorum has made the Family an issue of his campaign from the beginning. And he was the first to openly declare such in the debates.

Now the one reservation I had always had of Santorum is electibility and it appears he has now become the front runner and he continues to remain strong for a couple of weeks now. Not only that but one thing that Santorum has going for him that none of the other anti-Romney social conservative candidates had was that Santorum has consistently polled as well as and in some cases better than Romney when up against Obama.

Here is one of Santorum's first videos introducing himself to those of us who have been unaware of him till as of late. Quite a different route than most!!!

Here are an impressive list of those who are endorsing Rick Santorum but let us start with Dr James Dobson's statement in part and then conclude this post with a list of other social conservative leaders and this is not an exhaustive list but only what I found on Santorum's site over the past 1 month and a week.

Warren Buffett is not paying less taxes than his secretary

When something sounds to radical to be true sometimes it is. I heard this claim some time ago and then Obama is still using it in his speeches and Warren and his secretary were on ABC recently. Unbelievably terrible fact checking done by those who are still promoting this half truth.

True: Warren is taxed at like 15% apparently.

True: His secretary is taxed at about 35%.

This is indeed true. But this is not the whole story. Let us add some further truths.

Also true: Warren's tax is via capital gains.

Also true: His secretary is taxed via income tax.

What does this mean?

Also true: The reason why capital gains are not taxed as high as income tax is because the corporations that Warren invested in were already taxed at 35%.

Also true: To illustrate this further not even Obama's proposals to increase capital gains tax to 20% would make him pay more in taxes than his secretary if one doesn't consider the 35% that has already been taxed via the corporations that Buffett has invested in.

So now that we have considered all taxes we can now see that:

The truth: Warren is taxed at 50%

The truth: His secretary is taxed at about 35%

So Warren does pay 15% more in taxes than his secretary. Not only that but to be in a 35% tax bracket as a secretary you must be earning quite a bit more than most of us.

Now I will admit that there may be more facts to add to these that are either for or against this argument but it appears that these are mysteriously missing so far in the debate except here at VVN.CO.

Once Again Mr. President, Warren Buffett Doesn’t Pay a Lower Tax Rate than His Secretary – Curtis Dubay

As expected, especially her sitting in the audience, President Obama trotted out again the well-worn trope that Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate that his secretary. The President did so to defend his new version of the“Buffett Rule” proposal that no millionaire pay less than 30 percent of their income in taxes.

The President can claim success on this one even before he ends his speech tonight because the Buffett Rule is already soundly in place. According to the CBO, the top 1% of income earners pay 30 percent of their income in all federal taxes.

The whole idea of the Buffett Rule is based on a fallacy. One that Warren Buffett himself should know better than to propagate. It originated because Warren Buffett claims he pays a much lower tax rate than his secretary. But he earns his income through capital gains from stock he owns in businesses. He pays a 15 percent rate on those gains when he realizes them. But before he enjoys those gains, the businesses that generate them pay the highest-in-the-world 35 percent corporate income tax rate. In reality, Buffett pays 50 percent on the income he earns- far above the rate his secretary pays.

It is unclear exactly how the Buffett Rule would be implemented if it became law. One way could be to raise the tax rate on capital gains to the middle-income rate of 28 percent, or as high as the top income tax rate – 35 percent now and scheduled to rise to 39.6 percent next year. This would be highly damaging to the economy because it would drastically raise the cost of capital causing businesses to buy less. Less capital means fewer jobs and lower wages for American workers of at all income levels.

The Akedah of Isaac fulfilled part 2

In part 1 we saw that the figure of The Akedah of Isaac prophetically pictured The Akedah of Jesus. We learned what the Akedah meant, what a figure or picture was and we saw how Christ fulfilled much of the Akedah but we did not have a chance to get through it all. For more detail on this first post please do go to The Akedah of Isaac fulfilled part 1 and then read this post but in quick review here is what we saw:

1) We saw Jesus as "the Lamb of God" via John the baptist in John 1:36 as Isaac was "the lamb" in Genesis 22:8.
2) We saw Jesus as the "Son of God" via John the baptist in John 1:34 as Isaac was the "son" of Genesis 22:8.
3) We saw that Jesus and His Father went alone together to the place of the burnt offering via Jesus in John 16:32 just as Isaac and his father went alone together Genesis 22:8.
4) We saw Jesus being offered as a burnt offering via Hebrews 13:10-14 just as Isaac was a burnt offering in Genesis 22:8.
5) We saw Jesus as God's "only...son" whom "the Father loveth" via John the baptist in John 1:18, 3:35 as Isaac was Abraham's "only son" "whom" he "lovest" in Genesis 22:2.
6) We saw that the Hebrew word for "love" is introduced for the first time in Genesis 22:2 and then the very next time in Genesis 24:67. Both times having to do with Isaac, first, in his relationship with his father and then in his relationship with his wife. Interestingly, enough we see Jesus in a "love" relationship with His Father in John 3:35 and His wife in Ephesians 5:29-32 as two major themes in the New Testament.
7) We saw how God for the second time calls Abraham to "get thee" to a place: The first, into the promised land in Genesis 12:1 which pictured a better promise that being the "better country...the heavenly" in Hebrews 11:16 and then the second time, to a place to offer the promised son for a burnt offering in Genesis 22:2 which then pictured the "better sacrifice" in Hebrews 9:23 and "mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises" in Hebrews 8:6.
8) Lastly, we saw how this "land of Moriah" that Abraham was to "get thee" to offer Isaac as a burnt offering connects with the temple that another son of a significant father built. The place this father (King David) chose to have his son (King Solomon) build the temple on was interestingly enough called "Mount Moriah" "at Jerusalem" in 2 Chronicles 3:1. Interestingly enough these are the only two instances of the Hebrew word for "Moriah" in the scriptures. But not only was it built "at Jerusalem in Mount Moriah" but further description and meaning is given in 2 Chronicles 3:1: "...where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite...". We then learn more about this peculiar and monumental event in 1 Chronicles 21 and 22. But for now to only point out what connects here with "Moriah" is that King David himself committed a priestly act of a burnt offering at this "threshingfloor" which then becomes the very reason why David chooses this place to build the temple. It is noted in 1 Chronicles 21:28-22:1: "At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon. But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD. Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel." And then if we go back and consider point 4 and 7 this gets prophetical picturesque and quite interesting but that will be for another time to discuss yet another prophetic picture.

For now we will stick with our figure of the Akedah of Isaac prophetically picturing for us even more than the above 8 points. Let us continue now with The Akedah of Isaac fulfilled part 2...

"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of."-Genesis 22:2.

Now let us look at "offer him" as we compare this with Isaiah 53. Here we have a human as an offering in Isaiah 53. We already discussed the "burnt offering" but not the offer and a human offering at that. In Isaiah 53 we have yet another human offering but this time at the hand of God himself. The JPS Commentary mentions nothing of Isaiah 53 which is odd. They point out many interesting points that I have commented on in part 1 of this post but nothing of Isaiah 53 which is just as oddly interesting in that as far as I know there are only two times God involves himself with a human offering and both are equated to "a lamb". One here in Abraham and then in Isaiah 53. There may be others but I can not remember them if there are. So it is curiously missing from the JPS Commentary. Even if they do not believe it is Jesus why not make mention of this at least in passing. To me it is a huge omission. I wish I had the JPS Commentary on Isaiah but I do not so I will have to take this on by my lonesome. But let us head over to Isaiah 53:

"...the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all....he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter...he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken...Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin...by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities...he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."-Isaiah 53:6-8,10-12

Now we know that from Genesis 22:14 that the Akedah of Isaac pointed to yet a future fulfillment. Isaiah 53 has to much imagery to be missed here. Let us call this The Akedah of the Righteous Servant. We will compare this "righteouse servant" to Isaac.

1) Isaac was to be made an offering in Genesis 22:2 and so was this servant in Isaiah 53:10.
2) Isaac was the lamb that was to be provided for an offering in Genesis 22:8 as this servant was to be brought as a lamb to the slaughter in Isaiah 53:7.
3) Isaac was submissively silent as his father binds him in Genesis 22:9 so is the servant in his affliction here in Isaiah 53:7.
4) Isaac was innocent in his Akedah so this servant "...had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth..." and the very description as a "righteouse servant" and yet experienced the Akedah-Isaiah 53:9.
5) Abraham laid on Isaac the wood of the burnt offering to carry in his Akedah in Genesis 22:6 so is the servant in Isaiah 53:4 laiden with the griefs of others and carries their sorrows on him in his Akedah.
6) Abraham brought a knife to cut Isaac with in Genesis 22:6,10 as this servant was to be "cut off" and face "shearers" both from the same Hebrew word for cut in Isaiah 53:7,8.
7) As the Akedah of Isaac pictures the resurrection (Hebrews 11:19) so does the Servant here in that Isaiah 53:8 says "For he was cut off from the land of the living" and just to be sure we understand that this servant was going to die the very next verse says this "..his grave was set among the wicked, -And with the rich, in his death-.." but yet in Isaiah 53:10 we read "..the Lord chose to crush him by disease, That, if he made himself an offering for guilt, He might see offspring and have long life" (JPS version). So how will he have long life after and see offspring after he was cut off out of the land of the living being made an offering unless he were to rise from the dead. Now more will be said on this in a part 3 of the Akedah of Isaac fulfilled.

And maybe more could be said but enough to rest in for now and to make the point with. One major difference is that here we have an Akedah that is carried to its bitter end. Isaac was never sacrifice while this "righteous servant" actually is. Now for a Christian Jew or Gentile Isaiah 53 is a clear prophetic picture of what Jesus the Messiah himself would do. The heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ is but a fulfillment of Isaiah 53. Jesus experienced The Akedah to its bitter end. Jesus is this righteous servant!!! The New Testament connects Isaiah 53 to Genesis 22 via the pictures. First, check out Acts 8:30-35 for a direct quote connecting Jesus to Isaiah 53. But let us connect this sacrifice to Genesis 22 via the pictures of The Father, The Son and The Lamb.

Let us take one of the most famous verses in the Bible in John 3:16 and see how this connects Isaiah 53 with Genesis 22. John 3:16 reads:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

You have "The Father" giving his "only...Son" which connects to The Akedah of Isaac that "whosoever believeth in him should not perish" which connects to The Akedah of the Righteous Servant in that Isaiah 53:1 opens up with "Who hath believed our report?" and then as Isaiah 53 is coming to close with "by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many".

But John 3:16 comes in context of John 3:14,15 which read:

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

Here you have Christ using a picture from an event in Israel's history to point to his Akedah. Again, notice the theme of "believe" and the "righteous servant" who will "justify many" by "his knowledge" which is being said here in John 3:14-16. Notice it is in good context with Isaiah 53:11: "He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities." The travail of his soul is the cross where God made "his soul an offering for sin" and via this knowledge which was his he would justify many for he shall bear their sins. This is the "report" that is asked "who will believe..." and "his knowledge" that the "righteous servant" will "justify many" as he "bear their iniquities".

Now all the children of Israel had to do was look at the serpent on the stake and they were healed from the deathly bites of the serpents that were sent as a consequence of their sins. This pictures Christ bearing our iniquities and becoming our consequences being nailed to the cross and all we have to do is "believe the report" and trust in this servants "knowledge" which he has revealed in the New Testament as he comes to bear our iniquities. And if we truely believe we will then naturally follow Him.

Now we see The Father and The Son but we need The Lamb in context of sin. Well let us head over to John 1:29:

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

John the baptist who claims to be the very figure of Isaiah 40:3 just some chapters before Isaiah 53 claims Christ to be "the Lamb of God" which is pictured in Genesis 22 and here in Isaiah 53. Not only is this a Lamb but a Lamb that "taketh away the sin of the world". Which fits nicely in with Isaiah 53 as "the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" and "he shall bear their iniquities" and "he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.". Is this not the central theme and message of The Akedah of Jesus??!!

Now some have concluded that the servant of Isaiah 53 is Israel and not the Messiah. They will point to Isaiah 49:3 that reads:

"And He said to me, "You are my servant, Israel in whom I glory."-JPS

I quote this from the JPS translation of Isaiah just for fairness sake and to show that even in their translation what I am pointing out is out of their translation. Now the very answer to this is just some verses down which makes it impossible for this servant to be Israel as:

"He who formed me in the womb to be his servant - to bring back Jacob to himself, that Israel may be restored unto Him."-Isaiah 49:5 JPS.

So this servant who is called Israel in vs 3 is to restore Israel. But just for double emphasis let us head to vs 6:

"For He said: "It is too little that you should be My servant in that I raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the survivors of Israel: I will also make you a light of nations, that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth."-JPS.

So there are two Israel's spoken of here not just one. Isaiah 53 is speaking of Israel that is described as "my righteous servant" who is to "bear the sins of many" and whose involvement results in God's "salvation" reaching "the ends of the earth". Which fits well with the description of the Israel in Isaiah 49. Notice in Isaiah 53 this righteous servant is being "cut off" "Through the sin of my people, who deserve the punishment" (JPS Isaiah 53:8). So the Righteous Servant called Israel is contrasted with another Israel in Isaiah that needs to be brought "back" and "restored" but the Righteous Servant called Israel also is the one "to bring back Jacob...that Israel may be restored" by bearing their sins but not only theirs but as we will see many of the nations also.

Now Christ (the Righteous Servant called Israel of Isaiah 53) has so inspired and enabled those who bring "the report" to "believe" to the utter ends of the earth like no other. Because of Christ and His followers called His Bride in the New Testament more people know about the Creation, the flood, Abraham and Isaac, King David, Jonah and Moses, the law and the prophets than maybe any other message on earth. More people know about the Tanakh via Christ and His Bride than via any other means. Who but knows that if it weren't for Christ and His Bride that the message would have dissappeared into oblivion millenia ago? But instead it spreads and continues to do so ever since Christ came into the world and fulfilled The Akedah of Isaac via His Akedah fulfilling the Akedah of this Righteous Servant bearing the sins of others. Christ has indeed spread the knowledge of God as revealed in the Tanakh like no other and continues to do so via the same vehicle he has been doing it for the last 2000 years.

And is it not most interesting when we read Isaiah 49:1 concerning this "Righteous Servant" that this "Righteous Servant" says this "Listen, O coastlands, to me, And give heed, O nations afar: The LORD appointed me....And He said to me, "You are My servant, Israel in whom I glory."...and restore the survivors of Israel, I will also make you a light of nations, That My salvation may reach the ends of the earth." (JPS Isaiah 49:1,3,6,7) And look at the gospel of Jesus Christ since it was birthed on the earth some 2000 years ago!!!

Let us head over to Isaiah 42 quoting once again from the JPS version we read God himself talking about this "Servant": "This is My servant, whom I uphold, My chosen one, in whom I delight. I have put My Spirit upon him, He shall teach the true way to the nations....He shall bring forth the true way. He shall not grow dim or be bruised Till he has established the true way on earth; And the coastlands shall await his teaching...And I have grasped you by the hand. I created you and appointed you a -covenant people,- a light of nations." (Isaiah 42:1,3,4,6). Now JPS makes a note about the translation of "covenant people" in their translation and says that if it were translated more literally it would read "covenants of a people". KJV translates it that the Servant God would "give thee for a covenant of the people".

Now as a Christian Jew or Gentile this speaks volumes of the New Testament/Covenant and is quite consistent with Isaiah 53. So in conclusion in this post we have dealt with the offering of Isaac in connecting it to the offering of the Righteous Servant which both connect with Christ as the fulfiller of both. So Christ fulfills both the Servant and the Son of both Akedahs. Which goes well with Galatians 3:16, 4:1 and Phillipians 2:7-9.

Let us conclude by quoting Phillipians 2:7-9 to note the similarity of Christ the Servant to the Servant here in Isaiah 53:

"But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him...."

Sound familiar!!! This will lead us well into the resurrection of the Righteous Servant here in the Akedah of the Righteous Servant and the resurrection in the Akedah of Isaac which of course the resurrection of the Akedah of Jesus fulfills. But that will be for part 3 and to be continued....

Again found pictures at wikipedia...The second picture is of all of Isaiah 53 from the Dead Sea Scrolls dated about two centuries before Christ.

John 3:16 written all over Tebow Bronco OT win but there is more!

Found these interesting facts at Gateway Pundit in a post titled Holy Gridiron!… Tebow Throws for 316 Yards, Averages 31.6 Yds. Per Pass… And the Broncos-Steelers OT Scored a 31.6 Television Rating

Get this. Tim Tebow thru for 316 yards with 10 completions which means an average of 31.6 yards a pass and the game drew a 31.6 TV rating. We all know how Tebow used to wear scripture verses under his eyes in college and one of them being John 3:16 but wait there is more!!!

It was 01-08-2009 exactly three years ago that Tebow and the Gators won the championship. Guess what he wore under his eyes that night. You guessed it!!!

Now my dates could be off and I have not yet had a chance to verify so feel free to do so but I am pretty sure I am right. Here is a post that VVN posted back on 01-09-2009 about Tebow and John 3:16 which will be yet another amazing fact to add to what has already been added at John 3:16 was the number one hit on Google this morning according to ESPN. Why?. (This is where I found the picture above at.)

So exactly 3 years ago Tebow wears John 3:16 below his eyes during the game that Florida wins the national championship and then John 3:16 the next morning becomes the number one hit on google. And then 3 years later to the date Tebow is in his first playoff game and passes for 316 yards. Unbelievable!!!

This also is a 4th straight overtime win with Tebow as quarterback of the Broncos and what a finish. I just couldn't understand why they fumbled and why it went into overtime in the first place. Well, now we know!!!

The Akedah of Isaac fulfilled part 1

Below is the only conversation recorded in Scripture between Abraham and Isaac and the conversation is quite interesting.

"And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together."-Genesis 22:7,8

I am going to use The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) Commentary on their English translation of the Tanakh to use as a launching pad for our discussion here. The JPS is not at all a Christian group but rather a Jewish group. Now I understand you can be a Christian Jew so to make this more clear this is a non-Christian group. They do not ascribe to the idea that the Tanakh is the Old Testament for they do not ascribe to the New Testament nor believe Christ mediated a New Covenant as Christian Jews believe. So the Old Testament is not Old to them. So they call what we Christians would call the Old Testament simply the Tanakh. So just a heads up if I accidently use that term again you will know I am referring to the Old Testament and for those non-Christian Jews if I use the term Old Testament you will also know what I am referring to.

Now the above translation that I quoted of Genesis 22:7,8 is the KJV version and just for fairness sake I will place the JPS translation of those same verse here:

"Then Isaac said to his father Abraham, "Father!" And he answered, "Yes, my son." And he said, "Here are the firestone and the wood; but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?" And Abraham said, "God will see to the sheep for His burnt offering, my son." And the two of them walked on together."-Genesis 22:7,8

There are very little differences. JPS translates "the lamb" as "the sheep" which I looked up the Hebrew and it can be either a "lamb" or a "sheep". A lamb is a sheep and vice a versa so it doesn't matter that much. Also, the JPS translates "provide" as "see" both conveying that God will see to the sheep or provide the lamb. More literally though it is "see". Also, the JPS includes a definite article before "the sheep" where the KJV doesn't in vs 8 and in the Hebrew the definite article is indeed there. Now with that all said lets jump start with the JPS commentary on these two verses from pg 152 of "The JPS Torah Commentary" on Genesis in 1989 or as they put it also in 5749 as they do not ascribe to Christ as the mediator of the New Covenant which the 1989 calendar is based upon:

"The poignant tension inherent in the situation is heightened by the repetition of the words "father" and "son." The bond between the two remains unbroken. The brief dialogue over-the only such recorded between Isaac and his father-they continue their fateful trek in perfect harmony."

Now I would just like to add a bit to the commentary. As JPS notes this is the only dialogue in the Scripture recorded between Abraham and Isaac which hightens the significance of what is being said and what is being said it self is quite significant in itself. So let us pay attention. Remember Abraham at this point and as far as Abraham knows Isaac is the burnt offering. He says God will see to the lamb or sheep so at this point Isaac is the lamb or sheep which later Isaac finds out.

Now as a Christian it is interesting to note that Christ said that Abraham "rejoiced to see my day"-John 8:58. Now what is this all about? I believe at least in a significant part right here in what Jews whether Christian or not call The Akedah of Isaac is a prophetic picture that Abraham foresaw that one day would be fulfilled that has something to do with what I as a Christian gentile as far as I know will call The Akedah of the Son of God. Akedah is Hebrew for bind as Isaac was bound to the wood. So we are talking about the binding of Isaac picturing the binding of the Son of God. Now for Christians both Jewish and Gentile Isaac (the promised seed/son) pictures Jesus (the ultimate promised seed/son) as we read in Galatians 3:16 and here in The Akedah of Isaac (an Akedah that is so obvious of a picture for Christians that even though there is no specific mention of it in the New Testament it is clearly a picture of The Akedah of the Son of God/The Seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:16)). And then when you compare Hebrews 11:17-19 it gets all the more interesting but leaving that alone for now you can always remember this reference in Galatians 3:16 if you have John 3:16 down as both passages speak about Jesus in John 3:16 as God's son and in Galatians 3:16 as the seed of Abraham. But for now I speak of this only to make that connection that Isaac pictures Christ for the Christian. But here the picture is of Isaac being bound to wood as a burnt offering probably by some rope so the Son of God was bound by nails to wood as a burnt offering outside the gates. You say burnt offering? How so? Well, we will get to that but before we do we have to start somewhere.

First, let me establish as evidence that Abraham and his descendents themselves saw something prophetic about this event called The Akedah of Isaac in Genesis 22. The evidence is in Genesis 22:14 where we read that Abraham "...called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."

Notice that a saying went out amongst the descendants of Abraham after this event that speaks of a future fulfillment in connection with this event that includes a Father sacrificing His Son who at this moment is the Lamb that will be provided or seen. So Abraham is not lying he knows full well who the sacrifice is and Isaac is it, he is the lamb. But he was not sacrificed that day or night as we all know. Nor was the lamb provided that night but rather a ram and the Hebrew word for lamb/sheep is a different word than the Hebrew word for ram. But let us put the JPS translation of Genesis 22:14 side by side with the above KJV to notice an important difference but then we will reconcile the difference via JPS's own commentary on the Hebrew behind the translations:

“On the mount of the Lord there is vision”-JPS

“In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen”-KJV

Now there is a settle and important difference between the two translations. One implies a future aspect in that “it shall be seen” while the other is harder to see this implication and may not even imply it though one could. But what settles this settle yet meaningful difference is the JPS themselves. I am going to quote from the same JPS commentary as noted above but on pg 154 of these three words “there is vision”:

“Hebrew yera'eh, literally “He/it shall be seen.””

Well that settles it. Clearly there is a prophetic implication. The Hebrew even according to the JPS commentary reads how the KJV version translates it except that it could also be “He shall be seen”. Now let me read the rest of the JPS commentary on this “He/it” portion as they further comment on the Hebrew:

“The subject of the verb is unclear, although the apparent reference to verse 8 would favor the impersonal rendering, referring to the sheep. A different exegetical tradition is represented by the Septuagint, which renders, “On the mount the Lord appears”.

Now verse 8 is "the sheep" or as the KJV translates it as the "lamb" that Abraham said God would see to or provide as a burnt offering. But it is possible that it could be rendered "He". So now we have four translations of this phrase and so let us put them next to each other.

“In the mount of the Lord He/it shall be seen”-The literal Hebrew according to JPS commentary

“On the mount the Lord appears”-Septuagint

“On the mount of the Lord there is vision”-JPS

“In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen”-KJV

But let me add a 5th and 6th translation combining all of the above along with the JPS commentary that the “it” refers back to “the sheep” and the other possible rendering would be for “He” referring to the Lord and the literal Hebrew:

“In the mount of the Lord He (the Lord) shall be seen”

“In the mount of the Lord it (the sheep) shall be seen”

And now let me add a final 7th translation to rest in for now combining the last two translations including both possibilities of the literal translation:

“In the mount of the Lord He (the Lord)/it (the sheep) shall be seen.”

Update: Upon further thought on this translation I got to thinking that the "He" could be referring back to Isaac as the "it" refers to "the sheep". So it would be possible for yet a third rendering which would combine the "He" and "it" in Isaac as "He" was "the sheep" that Abraham was about to sacrifice. So instead of revising all of the above I will rest upon second thought now in the below translation:

"In the mount of the Lord He (Isaac/the Lord)/it (the sheep) shall be seen."

Now let us consider the phrase before this phrase which reads:

“...as it is said to this day..”-(KJV) or “...whence the present saying...”-(JPS)

I think both translations are saying the same thing and the same implication is clear from both. Both agree in that this event lead to a “saying” well after the event that was even being said to the day of the writer of Genesis. In fact I like the JPS commentary on this phrase which reads:

“A popular saying arose based on this episode. This is not part of the narrative but an editorial note”-pg 154.

So in the day of whoever penned this phrase this “saying” was still being said well after the event itself which implies a future occurrence that this event for them pictured. Now some may say it was Moses that wrote this and others say not and for now I am not going to get into that debate but rather just to take note that all should agree that this saying arose after this event and the saying implies that this historical event is also a figure picturing for them something that was to come.

Now what I found interesting is that the first century Jewish believers in Christ saw what they called figures, types and shadows in the Tanakh/Old Testament much like these Hebrews in the days after this event saw in this historical event in Genesis 22. Some examples include:

1) Peter in 1 Peter 3:21 saw Noah's flood water as a figure picturing an aspect of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

2) Paul in Romans 5:14 saw Adam as “the figure of him that was to come.

3) And the author of Hebrews who is disputable but clearly Hebrew or thought like a Hebrew in Hebrews 9:9 saw the structure of the tabernacle itself as “..a figure for the time then present...”

4) But then you also have what is called a “shadow” which is “of things to come” as in Colossians 2:17, Hebrews 8:5 and 10:1.

5) And you also have “an allegory” of historical events in the Old Testament that apply to the future as in Galatians 4:24

6) And then you have similar thinking in the New Testament that imply such understanding of the Old Testament like in 2 Corinthians 3:14 and Galatians 3:16 and so forth.

7) But to really pin this down Christ Himself in the book of John all over the place talks with this type of talk. The bread from heaven under Moses pictured Jesus himself as the bread of life. Jacob's well pictured the well of living water that would spring up into eternal life having to do with the Holy Spirit. You also have the serpent lifted up in the wilderness so must He be lifted up and on and on. The historical miracles he performed were also figures picturing something more significant than just the miraculous happening itself. Just read the whole gospel of John or check out John 16:25: “These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.” or better yet check out John 6:53-63 where Christ says this “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life.” Clearly this is proverbially and figurative but here we have the picture going in a different direction. Christ is picturing for us that faith in Him is figuratively like feeding much like in the law of Moses where it reads something like “man can not live on bread alone”!!!

8) Look at the prophetic books in Jeremiah, Isaiah, Hosea and Ezekiel. God had these prophets at times do weird things but all pictured something that God was going to do in the future. Hosea's wife was a picture of something more than just a historical marriage. Isaiah's children were signs or pictures of something more significant than just his children in his historical setting. I can't remember the pictures and/or signs that are in Jeremiah and Ezekiel but I remember especially Ezekiel having to do odd things as a sign and picture painting and pointing to something that was to occur in the future.

9) Even the non-historical but rather visions and dreams that some of the prophets had like in Daniel and quite consistently in Revelation. You have beastly figures which picture future kings and kingdoms and even kingdoms that existed in the time of the writing.

10) And so are we to believe that something so picturesque as “the seed” figure that runs from the historical Eve, barren matriarchs and their patriarchs, to Judah, David with Levi (Jeremiah 33:22, Psalm 110:1,4), and probably many that I have missed and all the way thru to Christ or rather The Seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:16) that this “seed” figure pictured for us in the very Son of God.

11) And second to lastly we have already seen here in this event in Genesis 22 an understanding of a historical event that pictured for them something that will be seen in the future.

12) And then lastly You even have numbers that are significant “...as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” which itself was a sign Jesus called “the sign of the prophet Jonas”. As I myself have 12 points of a figure picturing and consummating my point in a Hebraic way!!!! As I also did in the 7 translations of Genesis 22:14 above.

So both Hebrew writers in the Tanakh and the New Testament both included and understood figures which pictured something more significant than the historical event itself and so now in this same spirit let us get into The Figure of The Akeda in Genesis 22.

Now as a Jew or Gentile for that matter who believes in Christ you can really see this picturing the event of The Akedah of the Son of God.

First, John the baptist who is claiming to be the prophetic figure in Isaiah 40:3-5 (Compare with John 1:23) proclaimed that Jesus is "the Son of God" and "the Lamb of God" in John 1:34-36. Also, Jesus says in a conversation with some Jews concerning His Akedah that "...When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." And he similarly says in John 16:32 to his disciples: "Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me."

Now notice here you have the picture of The Akedah of Isaac fulfilled in The Akedah of the Son of God. You have The Father going with His Son who is the Lamb that now has been seen in a provisional sense in the mount of the Lord. Let us mark in bold what has been fulfilled so far in this only conversation between Abraham and his Son:

"And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together."

What about this "fire" as Isaac was a "burnt offering"? How does this fit in with Christ and how does The Akedah of the Son of God fulfill this? Let us head over to Hebrews 13:10-14:

"We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."

As Jesus predicted the city of Jerusalem was going to be judged within His generation and not only that but Christ predicted that the temple that took some 46 years to build according to John 2:20 was also going to be left without one stone upon another (see Matthew 23:36-24:2). This should make some further sense of the significance of Christ fulfilling the "burnt offering" aspect. He is calling Jews and for that matter Gentiles also out of the Old Covenant altar and sanctuary and into The Akedah of the Son of God (which The Akedah of Isaac pictured) whose blood was spilt to establish the New Covenant that was prophesied of in Jeremiah 31:31-34. But not so much on that for now. Just to mention that in passing and for further study on that if it has peaked your interest read Hebrews chapter 8 and 9 or better yet read Hebrews all the way through. Oh and Galatians 3:17-18 will be quite applicable and actually all of Galatians should be read.

So now we can say that Christ has indeed fulfilled the prophetic picture of the only conversation between Abraham and Isaac in Holy Writ but let us continue with the whole picture of the Akedah of Isaac picturing Christ that will further evidence forth and bind it all up with as there are loose ends.

You have Isaac described in Genesis 22:2 as Abraham's "only son" "whom thou lovest". It is interesting to note that this is the very first time this Hebrew word for love is used in the Scriptures. The JPS commentary on pg 151 makes note of this: “This is the first use of the key biblical stem '-h-v, significantly in the parent-child relationship. Its next usage (24:67) is in the husband-wife relationship.”. I would just like to add that both instances are with Isaac in relationship to his father and Isaac in relationship to his wife. Notice that the two major themes of love for the Isaac of the New Testament are between His Father and His Bride. Interestingly enough we do not hear about Isaac after this Akedah again until he meets up with his wife Rebekah. Also, you have once again John the baptist making these comments in John 3:29: "He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled." But let us stay here in The Akedah of Isaac for now.

Christ is described by John the baptist as God's "only...son" in John 1:18 and then as a son whom "the Father loveth" says John the baptist in John 3:35.

Now you have yet another interesting commentary by the JPS on pg 150 concerning The Akedah of Isaac: "The Hebrew phrase lekh lekha, "go forth," does not occur again in the Bible, a fact that underscores the deliberate and meaningful nature of its use in these two passages." Now the "go forth" translation is from the JPS english translation and in the KJV it is translated "get thee". The first time God tells Abraham to "get thee" or "go forth" is when God called Abraham to the promised land and the second time is here when God calls Abraham to ".. get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.." (Genesis 22:2). So the first "get thee" is for Abraham to leave his family and country to go to the promised land and the second "get thee" is to take Isaac the promised son to offer as a "burnt offering". So one could say as the promised land pictured the "better country, that is, an heavenly" (see Hebrews 11:8-9,16) and The Akedah of the promised child here in Genesis 22 pictured The Akeda of the Son of God who was the "better sacrifice" (Hebrews 9:23) and "mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises" (Hebrews 8:6). So both picture the "better covenant, which was established upon better promises" which promises were of a "better country, that is, an heavenly" with a "better sacrifice.." that being that which The Akedah of Isaac foretold that being The Akedah of God's only son whom He lovedst. Again, check out Galatians 3:17,18 or better yet all of Galatians for more on that. But let us stay here in the picture of the better sacrifice.

Now God tells Abraham to "get thee into the land of Moriah". The JPS commentary on pg 391 notes that: "..."the land of Moriah" is never mentioned again in the Bible...". Not only that but they note that there is "the presence of the definite article in the Hebrew (lit. "the Moriah")...". Now they offer many different possible translations of this word for "Moriah" but I am just going to stick with the below comments. The land of Moriah is never mentioned again in the scriptures however "Moriah" is mention: here in Genesis 22:2 and interestingly enough in 2 Chronicles 3:1 where we read: "Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.". The Hebrew word is the exact same word and also includes the definite article and yet is described as a place. "Moriah" in the Hebrew means "seen of Yah (the Lord)" but with the definite article you have "the seen of Yah (the Lord)". Now when we consider what Abraham later called this place this would make sense. It is interesting to note that on "Mount Moriah" was where Solomon's temple was built. Now whether or not "the land of Moriah" and "Mount Moriah" may or may not be the exact same place and one place could have been named after the other but I wish not to get into that debate for our discussion here. But all should agree that these are the only two instances where the Hebrew word of Moriah is mentioned in the Bible and that alone is significant enough for our discussion.

It appears there is to much to say here that will distract us from the Akedah of Isaac but to only say that it appears that this event itself is quite picturesque and connects to "Moriah" via "the burnt offering" which connects to "the burnt offering" of Moses' tabernacle which connects then to the building of the temple and so connects to Christ as the "burnt offering" "without the gate" and yet the context of this event is yet another peculiar and momentuous event in Israel's history. We also have a King (King David) acting in the position of a priest and the very place of this priestly act becomes the very place of the altar of the burnt offering where David chooses to build the temple of God which David's son then completes which is at "Moriah" which is at Jerusalem where Christ himself was sacrificed whose sacrifice being outside the gates and so on and so forth. There is so much to be said here but it would require another post in the future as this one is getting long enough. However, for now I will suggest a read of 1 Chronicles 21 into 22 along with the above 2 Chronicles 3:1 but read in context of 2 Samuel 24:1. Then see 2 Samuel 7 and then Hebrews 9:10-14 and then Hebrews 10:1-10 and Hebrews 13:10-14 and then compare Genesis 14:18 with Hebrews 7 and 5 and then compare with Psalm 110 and Jeremiah 33:17-26 and Hebrews 7:12 and so forth and so on. We probably will review this event more closely in another post.

Now let us review in bold what we have discussed so far that the figure of the Akedah of Isaac pictured and was fulfilled in the Akedah of the Messiah/Seed of Abraham/Son of God.

"And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? Missler: Adam as a type of Christ but was he really created on the 6th or 3rd day or both!!!

Was Adam created on Day 6 according to Genesis 1? Answer: Yep (proof texts Genesis 1:27-31, Genesis 5:1-2).

Was Adam created on Day 3 according to Genesis 2? Answer: Yep (proof texts Genesis 1:11-13, Genesis 2:5-7).

Was Adam created on both days? Answer: Yep (proof texts Genesis 1:27-31, Genesis 5:1-2, Genesis 1:11-13, Gensis 2:5-7)

Huh!!!: You say. Well, yah, if you take just a plain literal orderly understanding of Genesis 1 and 2 you will see how both are the case. Hint: it is all in the plain literal defining of Adam (Genesis 5:2). There is no contradiction!!! (For the quick answer skip to the bottom of this post and check out the summation in bold but for further explanation and biblical proofs read the body of the post.) This is an answer to this supposed contradiction that you probably have never heard of before but check it out and check out the scriptures and see if it ain't so.

Some time ago when the Lord was newly drawing myself back toward Him and His truth revealed in the scriptures I specifically remember this issue coming up. He taught me that His word has no flaws so I started with that assumption. So this apparent contradiction or at the time a real contradiction to me I knew could be resolved if that assumption was true. I was taught at that point when I saw the resolution to trust His word even when a real contradiction appears to be there. God rewarded me with an answer to this contradiction and by extension I believe all contradictions in His word have a scriptural answer as opposed to believing they don't. We do not have to go outside His word to some fallible source to vindicate the infallible word of God. This would be self refuting. So I knew there was an infallible answer therefore I knew I had to go to the infallible source for an answer which was the very source that seemed to be in contradiction.

And I believe I found here an infallible answer to what seemed to be a contradiction in God's infallible word. I have also of late been finding more infallible answers to the seeming contradiction in God's word about the timing of the end time events. The apostle John under the inspiration of God's Holy Spirit claimed the events written in Revelation were at hand and shortly to come to pass way back in his generation (Revelation 1:1-3). And Jesus told John and all of his disciples to not listen to those who claim the events are near before it really was near. Certain signs must happen first and then the time would be near (see Luke 21:8 and forward). So if John is not a false prophet than those events had to have occurred in order for John to proclaim the nearness of the events in Revelation. But many Bible believing Christians believe those events have not happened and therefore is still yet future to us which would make John a false prophet for Christ said certain signs must happen first before claiming nearness but John claimed nearness therefore those events had to have happened in John's day. Now I have not yet figured it all out but just like the example that I am about to give doesn't mean that it is not unfigurable nor does it mean that God's word is fallible. It just means we need to dig further into the infallible word of God to find the answer from the infallible source thus proving itself as being infallible. If we go to science, history or members of the church for the answers we may or may not be getting the infallible answer and we certainly would not be evidencing forth the infallibility of God's word via the fallible sources. That would be self-refuting. So let us as members of the church, as men and women of science and as men of history go to that which lays the foundation for all that we are of which is the infallible word of God and then understand history, science and ourselves in His Light. Any history, science or church that contradicts the infallible word of God is then obviously in error and unreliable and only proving itself to be fallible as it contradicts the infallible.

So as you review my claim of an infallible answer in God's word please do compare it with God's word and all will be safe in His truth.

So let us move on with this "real" contradiction in God's word in Genesis 1...

1) God says that man was created on Day 6. Proof text is Genesis 1:27-31.
2) God says that the birds of the air were created on Day 5. Proof text is Genesis 1:21-23.
3) God says that the plants and herbs were created on Day 3. Proof text is Genesis 1:11-13.

Now to Exodus concerning the days of creation and order of the events...

3) God says that these days of creation are real days comparable to a real day as we know it today. Proof text is Exodus 20:9-11 (notice that in the Hebrew the six days is exactly worded as the second six days).
4) As an extension to 3) this means that as God rested the 7th day it was in relation to the first 6 days so God rested after the 6 days as we in our 6 day week are to do. Therefore the days are actual order of events or the 7th day really could have been done before the 6th day and the 6th day could have really occurred before day 1 etc etc etc. It would make the number of the day pretty much meaningless. But because there is a rest after the 6 days which denotes an order of events then the days before the 7th and 6 should flow naturally as order of events and we have no reason not to think otherwise.

Now to the order of events described in Genesis 2...

5) God says Adam was created before the birds of the air. Proof text Genesis 2:18-20.
6) God says Adam was created before the plants and herbs of the field. Proof text Genesis 2:5-7.

So this puts Adam as created as on or before Day 5 which the birds were created on. And on or before Day 3 when the herbs and plants were created.

Now one way to answer this problem is by saying that either Genesis 1 is not an orderly account or that Genesis 2 is not an orderly account or that neither are. I already dealt some with Genesis 1 above. It appears that God is giving an orderly account or the numbering of days and the 7th day in particular would really make no sense.

Now it is true that Genesis 2 we have a none literal day in Genesis 2:4 and that we are going back in time sort of speak in comparison to Genesis 2. So this may warrent taking Genesis 2 as not an orderly account like Genesis 1 is. However, Genesis 2 may not make a whole of sense if this is not an orderly account. Clearly, Adam was before Eve in Genesis 2 as we understand that Eve was taken from His ribs. Clearly, there were some hours of work in naming all the original kinds of animals and birds before a help meet was not found suitable for Adam. So those are orderly and so why are not the rest orderly much like the 6 days. There are words like in Genesis 2:5 that indicate something occurring "before" there were plants and herbs and a full explaination as to why there were no plants and herbs. These are clearly phrases declaring order of events. Just because we are going back and zeroing in more specifically on the 6 days of creation doesn't prove one way or the other if this telescoping is or is not orderly itself. So the arguments don't add up that this telescoping or zooming in on just one part of this creation and explaining in more detail is not orderly itself when you find it to be in order. Rather there is much evidence to the contrary as pointed above.

Now I understand there are examples in scripture of things out of order and the point one writer of the gospels was not to make an orderly account and this resolves many contradictions in the gospels but here we have to me an attempting of giving an orderly account by such words and order of events in both accounts. We learn Adam was before Eve which later Paul uses as an example for us to learn from a principle today. And we can know that before there was any plants Adam was formed out of the earth. That the birds were made after Adam was created and what not as this is an orderly account.

But then we have a "real" contradiction right. Well in remaining honest with the text as I believe I am attempting to do and are doing it appears we have a "real" problem. But let me share the possible answer by only taking into account what God says here in Genesis 1 and 2 and prove it by the infallible word of God thus upholding the infallibility of God's word. And I do believe the answer and how I determined the answer was via trusting God and taking Him at His word and in doing so His own word revealed the answer.

Let us add point 8), 9) and 10) with proof text.

8) God describes man as singular yet plural in Genesis 1. Proof text Genesis 1:27.
9) God describes man as male and female in Genesis 1. Proof text Genesis 1:27.
10) God describes male and female (plural) as becoming one (singular). Proof text Genesis 2:24.

This answers the dilemma. One may question how so. Man created in the image of God is male and female. Not just male nor just female but rather male and female. It was not good that man be alone. Man was not good until Woman was made and now we have the good image of God. Sure first man but without the female man is incomplete and not good as alone. Man alone is not the image of God but rather male and female. Genesis 1:27 doesn't give us a context of a man alone but rather man created in the context of there also being a woman and therefore the completing of the creation of man. So Adam without Eve could have existed before Day 6 much like the water that formed the seas was there before the seas were made on day 2 but seas are not seas until they are up against land and so man is not man until he is completed with the woman.

Now Adam became a living soul somewhere on Day 3 if we are taking Genesis 2 in an orderly manner and notice when Eve comes out on the scene. It is conveniently after the plants and herbs and after the birds of the air and after the beast of the field. Which would be Day 6 and after the exact order of the events on Day 6. When Eve had been created one could say but not before: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."-Genesis 1:27.

It is interesting to note that God is described here in singular and plural like man is. The word for God is Elohim which is a plural word but before a singular verb. Here you have man singular but yet plural in male and female as man created in God's image. Which makes sense as we are created in His image which is plural yet singular. But further evidence that there is some connection about this image and this plurality and singularity is Genesis 2:23-24:

"And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

And then to really cement this idea that Adam is not Adam or Man until the female is included check out Genesis 5:1,2:

"This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."

Not just Adam is called Adam but male and female are called Adam. Adam can also be translated Man in english for they are the same word in Genesis 1 and 2. So however way you look at it Adam is not complete nor was it good therefore not fully good until Eve!!!

Notice the two becoming one flesh from Genesis 2:23,24. There is an interesting covenantal application out of the new testament/covenant in the writings of Paul in Ephesians 5:30-33 speaking of the church:

"For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband."

I find it interesting that Paul applies this to the relationship between the church and Christ. As we the church are covenantally described as the bride of Christ. That we are members of his body. There are other descriptions under the new covenant/testament of the church as the body of Christ. So just to have fun let us dig here for a little while.

The woman in Genesis was taken out of the man. So we the church as Christ's bride were taken out of Christ. Adam's flesh was cut in order to form the woman. Christ's flesh was cut for His woman also. It is interesting that on the 3rd day after Adam was created then was he made in the image of God with his wife and Adam was made on the 3rd day of creation. It is interesting that Jesus rose the 3rd day (see 1 Corinthians 15:4). Also, "Adam was made a living soul" this being on the 3rd day so also Christ being risen from the dead on the 3rd day was made a "quickening spirit" (1 Corinthians 15:45. Also, we read that the man not the woman was to leave father and mother and shall be joined unto his wife. Adam had no earthly father or mother nor did Christ. Christ was sent by His father and so Christ in this sense left His father and his heavenly home which is described as a mother of us all in Galatians 4:26.

Now there are some major differences but even in these differences we can see a contrast for pointing sake. Romans 5:14 says "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come." So Adam is called by Paul "the figure of him that was to come" that is Christ. In the verses following we see that through Adam sin and death entered the world but through Christ righteousness and life. So we can look at the opposites of the two men which then explains some contrasts in Adam and Christ.

Eve had committed no sin yet so Adam experienced a deep sleep and no death whereas Christ bride had sinned and so he experienced death and pain for his bride. Adam sinned Christ never did. Adam represents a first and old covenant whereas Christ represents the second and new covenant. And what is glorious is that from Adam to Moses "death reigned" and the law through Moses entered so that "the offence may abound" (Romans 5:20). So Moses and the old covenant did not destroy death but only made it ever the stronger. In fact 1 Corinthians 15:56 says "The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.". So the old covenant under Moses and the law was only a pointer to guide us to the new covenant of life by the blood of one man whose name is Jesus. Hebrews 2:14,15 says that "that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." So we have a great contrast in types between Adam and Jesus.

And what makes this love story between man and woman an even further picture of Christ and the Church is that it was not good that the Husband be alone right. That God made Christ to be with His Church. The woman was the last completing "crown" of His creation in the 6 days of creation in Genesis 1 and in Genesis 2 after which God then rested on day 7. So Christ without His Bride is an incomplete love story of salvation. In pictures here we can see that our Heavenly Father also said it was not good that His Son should be alone and so Christ without His Bride is not a good thing. Could it be that in His eyes we the church whether Jew or Gentile are His crowning and completion of this new creation we hear about in the New Testament under the New Covenant. Notice that only under the New Covenant is this picture fulfilled in Christ. There is no husband being pierced for His Bride under the Old Covenant that I am aware of. Sure you have prophecy in Zachariah of a pierced one but only in Christ is that piercing fulfilled. Only in Christ and under the blood of the New Covenant do we get this picture of Adam and Eve fulfilled in Christ and His Bride being the Church. A marriage that is forever (see Ephesians 3:21).

Another interesting note in types and shadows is that Paul used the order of events in Genesis 2 and 3 as real order of events and concluded some practical applications from them but I am not here going to focus on the practical applications but the truths he used to build those applications. 1 Timothy 2:13, 14 reads: "For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." And then 2 Corinthians 11:2,3 it is written: "For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

So we see that Eve the bride was the one decieved and so it is with us as the church. We are the ones that fell into sin first as Eve did. Then of course Adam did eat with Eve and so death came upon us all. But again as noted above the contrast between the first Adam and the last Adam as Christ that Christ did not himself fall into sin but rather became sin and endured the punishment of sin on His brides behalf. So Christ left and was sent of His father in Heaven to give his life for His bride and did away with that which divided the two and so the two became one flesh as the Bride clothes herself in His righteousness and not her own.

In fact I believe Chuck Missler does a decent job in going over these verses. Chuck Missler is a dispensational futurist. I used be a "Misslerite" if you will. Not really but if I could label myself as such I really received much from his ministry and still do. However, I have come to many different conclusions than he has on eschatology but just about everything he says in this video fits quite nicely into what I have come to understand as a biblical eschatology though different than his. And I admit that I have not come to a complete understanding of what a biblical eschatology is as I am still a student of His word as I am sure any dispensationalist would admit to also. But check this out!!!

Why is Missler still a dispensational futurist??!! Ephesians 3:21!!! Notice his talk about "the son of God" the new birth and creation!!!! The beautiful bride of Christ. If Missler were to be consistent with these types I believe he would then have many answers to futurist rejections of the time statements of eschatological events in the scriptures. Get into Hebrews, Galatians 4, 2 Corinthians 3 and so much more in the gospels. So to sum up from our introduction.

Adam as male and female was created on Day 6 according to Genesis 1 (Proof texts: Genesis 1:27-31, Genesis 5:1-2).

Adam as male only was created on Day 3 according to Genesis 2 (Proof texts: Genesis 1:11-13, Genesis 2:5-7).

So, yep, Adam was created on both days and therefore no contradiction by using the very proof texts that we find the supposed contradictions in!!! (Proof texts: Genesis 1:27-31, Genesis 5:1-2,
Genesis 1:11-13, Genesis 2:5-7).

Found picture of Adam with and without Eve from wikipedia. Man alone on day 3 and then with Woman on day 6 therefore no contradiction!!! So it was not good that the first Adam be alone nor good that the last Adam be alone. What a picture of salvation in types, shadows and figures in the literal earthly creation to picture for us that which cast those shadows in the heavenly and spiritual creation. Maybe Plato was on to something but just didn't have the LIGHT!!! For him that which cast the shadows was non-personal forms for the Christian it is very personal and relational therefore problem solved!!! I am not that great of a student in philosophy but know a little bit to maybe be dangerous in both ways but none the less for those who are students of philosophy you may just consider Genesis 1 and 2 as possible answers to the philosophical delimmas and maybe Augustine was right that in order to know what is real it must be revealed by the God who knows everything infallibly!!! We need starting points but we need starting points that are justified and could it be that an infallible personal and self revelatory God is the only justifiable starting point and us being created in His image enables us to know what he reveals via His enlightenment/spirit which he has decided to reveal bit by bit in His word which now is completed in the reading of the Old and New Testaments. This is a complete sidetrack of an issue to this post but thought I would throw it in there as it came to the top of my mind. If you are not a student of philosophy then this last paragraph means nothing and so just rejoice in the beautiful picture of Adam and Eve and Christ and His Bride.

Update: A further evidence would be to take a closer look at Genesis 5:2 which reads, "Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created." Notice "in the day THEY were created". The day in which THEY were created was not on Day 3 when only male was created. The day that THEY were created as Male and Female as both being called Adam was after all the animals and plants which then fits in with the order of events in Genesis 2 and Genesis 1 nicely. Now one may interpret "the day when they were created" to mean the whole process even before Eve rather than the day the two became one but then you would have the contradiction and have to explain away the clear order of events in Genesis 1, 2. Therefore the context forces us to interpret "the day when they were created" as being the day that man became male and female not before man as male and female. In other words Male without Female is not the creation of Man as we know from Genesis 2 it was not good that man be alone but when the woman came on the seen we see the two becoming one and thus Adam/Man has been created and could be called good. Notice the days before that God calls what he made good and good and good etc etc etc. But after the creation of man being male and female he then conclude all was VERY GOOD!!! Praise the Lord!!! The image of God on earth has topped off His creation as VERY GOOD. Then sin entered the world through man and things became very bad. Then Christ entered the world and man in Christ is restoring the image of God on earth via Christ and His Bride. Death reigned from Adam to Moses Paul says in Romans and under Moses the law entered so that sin may abound all the more therefore death all the more for the strength of sin is the law but Christ destroyed him who had the power of death by His own death at the cross and as Christ clearly said, "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

And to sum up once again:

All glory to Him "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily."-Collosians 1:13-29

Couldn't help but to say that Genesis 1 called on Man being male and female to "Be frutiful, and multiply...". What a picture for us as the body of Christ on earth to be spiritually fruitful and to multiply. And has not God indeed fulfilled this spiritual mission via the body of Christ or restored image of God on earth for the last 2000 years since "the image of the invisible God" has come to earth and left his bride with His Spirit to be fruitful with. Not only that as Christ in us "the hope of glory" "we may present every man perfect" and then notice how Christ "reconciled" us "in the body of his flesh through death, to present" us "holy and unblameable in his sight..."!!!! I couldn't help but to see Adam via his flesh and sleep was the Woman brought to life and get this "And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." Genesis 3:8-10 says "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."

Dude we can be spiritually naked again in His sight for Christ has restored us to a right relationship with Himself and we are His beautiful bride. Praise God!!! In Christ and in pictures our fall in Eden, in Adam, from His image have all been restored in the Spirit in Christ as Christ is the seed of the Woman, the seed of Abraham, the seed of David and the seed of Levi and fulfills every promise made by God. The Levitical priesthood paid tribute to the Melchisedek priesthood (See Hebrews 7:9-12) which priesthood was pattern after Christ (see Hebrews 7:3) so in Christ Jeremiah 33:22 is fulfilled. Christ as the seed of David in Jeremiah 33:22 is fulfilled in Christ as Christ in the spirit was called by David Lord therefore Christ is THE SON OF DAVID if you know what I mean (see Matthew 22:42 which Jesus quotes from Psalm 110 which interestingly enough connects the Melchisedek priesthood with the Davidic kingship and also see a post I posted with more on this at Christ: the Son of David or Lord?). As for the seed of the woman there are many verses to point to like the birth of Christ from the womb of a virgin but let us connect the seed of the woman with the seed of Abraham from the very same book of the Bible in Galatians. Galatians 4:4 says "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman..." and then for Abraham in Galatians 3:16 where we read, "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."

But what do these promises have to do with the church or the bride of Christ. Everything!!! From Galatians 3:28 we read, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Notice the male and female that we are one in Christ!!! Interesting as we have been talking about Genesis and the two becoming one and the body of Christ and what not. But neither is there Jew nor Greek we too are one. We too complete the image of God as being one in some sense as Jew and Greek are now members of the same body of Christ and all is one in Christ!!! But to hit on the next verse we read: "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

And for how long is this relationship between the Son who left His Father in heaven to be one with His bride with was going to be. Was this a marriage only for a certain time period like some claim that the church age will come to a close or is this an eternal marriage made in the spirit that is to be everlasting thoughout the age that Paul was in and every age thereafter. If the inspired apostle to the gentiles has anything to say about it it is for a very long time and it is glorious and the pennacle of His new creation!! Ephesians 3:6-21 says:

"...that the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

Now there was still yet a future fulfillment. There was an age that was coming to end that was still yet future to Paul's writings. Which is evidenced here that there would be further "ages" that the church would be partaking of. But there was an age coming to a close which ending cemented and revealed who indeed the Bride and the Husband was. For more on that see The End of the House of Death 70 AD.

God's amazing providence and grace!!!

For yet another amazing true story of amazing grace and God's providence check out the true story of how a nazi came to repent of his racism and those he was racist toward came to forgive him. As he checked out the scriptures for himself he realized he was wrong and saw just the opposite of what his nazi beliefs said the scriptures said. Winston Churchill called the science of Hitler as "preverted science" and in this true story you will see how Nazism had also "perverted scripture". Here is audio to Winston Churchill's famous speech titled "Their Finest Hour" and here are some of the words of that speech:

"I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us.

Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this Island or lose the war. If we can stand up to him, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.

But Hitler had also "perverted scripture". In Final Solution the Nazi came across such verses as:

"For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."-Romans 10:12,13

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."-Galatians 3:28,29

"And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all."-Colossians 3:10,11

These verses make it clear that Jews can be saved as much as Gentiles and vice a versa.

In fact the destruction of the temple as predicted by Christ was an amazing manifestation to Jews and Gentiles alike that Christ did indeed abolish the division between Jew and Gentile at the cross.

It is interesting to note that one of the reasons that Christ died on the cross was first and foremost to take away our sins that separate us from our God but in Ephesians 2:15 we get even further detail as to what his suffering on the cross also did in relationship to Jews and Gentiles and what a picture of a bridge of peace for all earthly divisions there after. Ephesians 2:14-16 says speaking of Christ and this divide between Jew and Gentile:

"For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.."-Ephesians 2:14-16.

But what does the predicted destruction of the temple have to do with what Christ did at the cross in Ephesians 2:15,16? Everything!!!

First and foremost the temple yearly brought a remembrance of sin to the worshipers and the need of a sacrifice for sin. Hebrews 10:3 says, "But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year." Now these were the sacrifices that had to be performed on one place on earth and that was in the temple. So when the temple was destroyed God was saying that what His Son did at the cross satisfied the demand for atonement and that in Christ there is no longer a remembrance of sin nor sacrifices!!!! Christ doesn't need to die each year for our sins rather he died once and for all. The sin that divides man from God has been dealt with at the cross so there is no longer a need for the temple as there was no longer a need for sacrifices and therefore no longer a need for the continual remembrance of sin for the worshipers. So in the destruction of the temple we see a destruction of the continual remembrance of sin that separates us from God and evidence of the acceptance of Christ's sacrifice once and for all on our behalf!!! Praise the LORD!!!

But what about the divisions amongst Jew and Gentile. Well Christ shed his blood for our sins as noted above. He called his blood that would be shed the blood of the NEW COVENANT. Now let us head over to Hebrews 8:13 where it reads, "In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away." and then again in Hebrews 10:9 it reads "Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second." Now that first and OLD COVENANT was decaying, waxing old and was "ready to vanish away". The New Covenant made the first Old. The establishment of the New/Second Covenant is in the taking away of the First/Old covenant. Hebrews 9:1 reads, "Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary." Now we read Ephesians that Christ "abolished...the law of commandments contained in ordinances". There were many things under the Old Covenant that separated Jews from Gentiles. There were many things the law required Jews to do that made them separate from the Gentiles. Now I can not pinpoint exactly the reason for why Gentiles could not enter the temple but this was such a big deal in the days of Paul the apostle that he almost lost his life over this very issue as we read in Acts 21:27-32:

"And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him (Paul the apostle) in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him, Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place. (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut. And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul."

Not only that but Herod's temple in the days of Christ actually had a court of Gentiles that Gentiles were not allowed to go pass and only Jews were. So there was a literal wall there in the days of Christ and his apostles. Now I do not believe this is what Paul is referring to but there was none the less some sort of commandments and wall that did divide the Jews from Gentiles and we know this from Ephesians. But the law of commandments and the ordinances of that Old Covenant were stored and to be located at the temple in Jerusalem. So when the temple was destroyed in 70 AD not only was the House of the remembrance of sin destroyed but the wall that separated Jew from Gentile was literally abolished and the House that contained those ordinances was torn down stone by stone.

So the destruction of the House of that Old Covenant that contained the laws of commandments in ordinances was removed thus evidencing that what Christ did at the cross for Jew and Gentile was yea and amen. There is no longer that House that divided Jew from Gentile and in Christ under the New Covenant we are one as the body of Christ (the promised seed) throughout all ages world without end amen (Ephesians 3:21).

And if Jew and Gentile are no longer divided in Christ then neither can there be any other division but Christ is all and in all!!!

The End of the House of Death 70 AD

Hebrews 8:7-13

"For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."

Now bear in mind that the first/old covenant which waxeth old and decayeth had an earthly/worldly sanctuary and ordinances of divine service as evidenced by the very next verse in Hebrews 9:1. So this first covenant is connected with the worldly/earthly sanctuary depending on which translation you read. By contrast the new/second covenant had what Hebrews calls "a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands" in Hebrews 9:11.

So bear this in mind as we continue to read further about this first/old decaying covenant.

Now in 2 Corinthians 3 Paul compares the "new testament" with the "old testament" as a contrast between life and death. The old testament is called "the ministration of death" in vs 7 and "the ministration of condemnation" by contrast the "new testament" is called "the ministration of the spirit" which "giveth life" and "the ministration of righteousness". The "old testament" is "done away" whereas the "new testament" "remaineth". Apparently, in vs 13 Israel was blinded to see "the end of that which is abolished" of course that being the "old testament". Now when Israel turns to the Lord they will then see the "end of that which is abolished". The end of the "ministration of death" and "condemnation". Hallelujah.

Now Jesus predicted the end of the earthly/worldy sanctuary in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 and other places which is connected to the old covenatn/testament. Hebrews 9:8 reads "The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing...". Christ is declared a Priest after the order of Melchizedek and not after Aaron/Levi via Hebrews 7:15-17 "And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec." Notice the contrast of life and death in Christ's preisthood in comparison to the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood. Backing up 4 verses Hebrews 7:11-12 reads "If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."

So the writer of Hebrews argues that in the reading of the Old Testament he has found evidence of a new priesthood which then would naturally lead to a change in the law. Remember earlier we read that God would make a new covenant not like the old one and here we read of a change in the law under that new covenant. Now this was probably difficult to swallow for many non-believing Israelite and Jews and Hebrews but none the less the argument is argued from the old covenant/testament which 2 Corinthians 3 says Israel was blinded to. Now that blindness was probably somewhat done away with if not completely for many of Israel when the temple was destroyed and all that happened in Luke 21 concerning the destruction of the temple, Jerusalem, Judah and the people of Israel. In Isaiah 6:11,12 Isaiah asks God in a vision how long that this blindness would continue to which the Lord responds: "Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land."

So in one since it was a sad day of judgment on Judah in 70 AD but in another sense it was a day of rejoicing for the "ministration of death" and "condemnation" was evidentally abolished in the desolation of that old covenant temple/city and land of the ministration of death before all as the hope of those of the old covenant of death had been utterly done away with thus proving themselves to be of the false prophets of old who similarily predicted Jerusalem would not be destroyed against the king of Babylon. And the true prophets were those ministers of the new covenant of life and the spirit having Christ as their High Priest predicting the end of the old covenant temple, city, land and people. Thus establishing his heavenly eternal priesthood above the earthly priesthood of the old covenant. Establishing the more perfect and greater tabernacle and covenant above the earthly tabernacle and covenant. Establishing the "heavenly Jerusalem" above the earthly as we read in Hebrews 12:22 "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem..." which Jerusalem is connected with the "new covenant" of life and the spirit as we read further in Hebrews 12:24 "And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel."

In fact compare Hebrews 12:18 depiction of Mount Sinai which is clearly a picture of the giving of the old covenant of death and condemnation a mountain that believers in the High Priest of the new covenant had not come to at all rather they have come to mount Zion the heavenly Jerusalem as noted above but compare Hebrews 12:18 with Galations 4:24-26. We have a similar contrast with a similar context of two covenants. We read "Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all."

Here you have two Jerusalems. The earthly and the heavenly. You have two people those of "mount Sinai" which "answereth to Jerusalem which now is" who are in "bondage" of course to the old covenant and those of the Jerusalem which is above. And what saith the scripture in Galatians 4:30 concerning the future of these two people of two different covenants the old verses the new: "Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.".

Now clearly Galatians and other places speak of the law bringing a knowledge of sin via the 10 commandments and what not. But there is also discussion about who are the people of God and a discussion about the two covenants which goes beyond a mere discussion of works vs grace. We have talk about circumcision and Jews and Gentiles and who are the children of promise even as Isaac was and what not. This is going beyond a mere teaching of works vs faith and grace. I used to see the passages a merely a discussion about works vs faith which it is but it is more than that as is clear by a full reading of the text and we see it is also a discussion about who are the real children of God and how circumcision and the two covenants relate to that. Hebrews goes into further detail than just works and faith as we read in Hebrews 6:1 as we are prepped for the second half of the book of Hebrews it reads "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God....". So at least Hebrews 6 and on is speaking about much more than just faith vs works but this relationship of the old covenant/priesthood etc etc and the new covenant/priesthood etc etc which compares nicely with Galatians 4 and other places in the scriptures like 2 Corinthians 3.

I am now going to head over to another key scripture in this context of the old vs the new in Romans 4:14 "For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect..." Wow!!! This is strong language. Paul is saying that faith is made void and the promise of none effect if "they which are of the law be heirs". Now is Paul only speaking of people who are trying to get to heaven via good works which Paul would agree would be the case but is he also speaking of those who the law had been given to. Let us review the context in Romans 4 to find out who "they which are of the law" really are.

1) First let us consider the very question that Paul is attempting to answer from vs 9: "Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness." So here is the question Paul is answering that vs 14 is in the context of.

2) Paul argues in vs 10-13 that this blessedness comes on both as Abraham was accounted righteous by faith before circumcision.

3) Paul further argues in the verse after our verse in discussion that the law worketh wrath not righteousness and then in vs 16 Paul says "Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all...". So those of the law are included as "the seed" but not "only" them but "also which is of the faith of Abraham" before he was cicumcised. So it comes to both they who are of the law those who are circumcised and to those who are not of the law. This is about works and grace but also about Jews and Gentiles/Circumcised and uncircumcised and that we are both together "the seed" of Abraham via faith. This flows well with Paul's argument in chapter 3:9 that both Jews and Gentiles are "under sin" and in vs 29,30 which ends chapter 3 taking us into chapter 4 and says "Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith...".

So "they which are of the law" are those of the circumcision or Jews as compared to Gentiles. So the promise is not just to Jews but also to Gentiles. So "all the seed" includes both Jews and Gentiles who are of the faith. Or who believe are trusting in the blood of the new covenant not the old covenant of death and condemnation. So if they which are of the old covenant be heirs than faith is made void and the promise of none effect for the old covenant is the ministration of death and condemnation and wrath. In yet another very similar context and discussion concerning Abraham and circumcision we can head back over to Galations 3:8 where we read: "And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed."

Again notice the context. There is a discussion about works and faith and the law with Abraham and circumcision etc etc. But notice it is also a discussion about Jew and Gentile and who is the seed of Abraham and then in chapter 4 Paul goes on to a discussion about the two covenants and those of the old covenant persecuting those of the new covenant and then the casting out of those of the old covenant as those in bondage to the law and the earthly Jerusalem vs the heavenly and so on.

So now to The End of the Covenant of Death!!!

Jesus says in Luke 21:20-24 "And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

Concerning the same subject Jesus says in Matthew 24:14-16 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains..."

The gospel of the kingdom is none other than the gospel of the new covenant or at least includes it to some degree. So this is a parallel passage and this gospel of the kingdom was being preached to the nations via Paul as he was the minister of the gospel to the nations. Paul himself said that "For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth..."-Colosians 1:5,6 and then says in a couple of verses down in vs 13,14 "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins...". So there you have the gospel bearing fruit in all the world and His kingdom as many amongst the nations are being translated into. And that "through his blood" which Christ referred to his blood being the blood of the new covenant. So Jesus says after this Gospel of the kingdom is preached as a withness to all nations then the end would come and the end is in connection to people fleeing from Judea and the abomination of desolation.

Let us go to Daniel to get some context of this as Jesus himself directs us. Below is Daniel 9:27 concerning the abomination of desolation which Luke describes as being in the context of Jerusalem being compassed with armies.

Daniel 9:27

"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

Now to get some further understanding of the context of this ending of the sacrifices and desolation let us back up to Jesus words in Matthew 23:37,38 where Jesus says "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate." and then in Matthew 24:1,2 "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down." So clearly the "earthly sanctuary" is in discussion here of being desolated. It is where the old covenant of death and condemnation was able to perform its ordinances and services and sacrifices. Now let us get more context from Daniel 9:24 concerning 9:27 and therefore of Matthew and Luke.

Daniel 9:24 starts off with "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." Daniel 9:27 talks about a week and in the midst of this this week the sacrifice will cease and the abominations he shall make it desolate. 9:24 talks about 69 other weeks that are determined on Daniel's people and city which is clearly God's old covenant people and city. In Christ via the new covenant sin is dealt with in its entirety. Christ has entered the most Holy place and the way into it was about to be manifested in 70 AD via Hebrews 9:8. In fact most of the fulfillment of Daniel 9:27 is spoken of in Hebrews. But let us look at the sealing up of the vision and prophecy.

Luke 21:22 says "For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled." and this said in context of the holy city and Daniel's people in Luke 21:20,21,23 as quoted above which is in context of the abomination of desolation here in Daniel. Not only that but Jesus said that "the law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of heaven is preached"-Luke 16:16. And in Hebrews 1:1,2 we read that "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son..." and here in Matthew and Luke we have Jesus the fulfiller of Daniel 9:24 predicting the desolation of the earthly sanctuary/old covenant of death and condemnation.

Now Daniel 9:26 reads that "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined."

So we come full circle to The End of the Covenant of Death via the destruction of the earthly Jerusalem and worldy sanctuary therefore the revealing of the new covenant of life and the spirit and of Christ Himself as the eternal High Priest of this heavenly sanctuary as the way into the holiest of all is now made manifest as that first tabernacle is no longer standing. The casting away of the bondwoman and her son those of the old covenant had been cast out as heirs with those of the new covenant and that which remains is the new covenant of life and the children whether Jew or Gentile for it no longer matters but rather faith in Christ are counted as the children of promise and are revealed to be so at the end of the Old Covenant Age of Death via the destruction of the Old Covenant House of Death and its city/people.

"Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end."-Hebrews 3:1-6.

"For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us: through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works..."-Hebrews 10:1-24

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."-Hebrews 13:8-16

"These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."-Hebrews 11:13-16

"Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain."-Hebrews 12:26,27

The first picture above I found here and the last three I found at wikipedia. The first picture shows a bowl of wrath being poured out on the House of Death which is a cover of a book called Days of Vengeance. The bowl contains the wrath of God poured out on the House of Death over the shedding of the blood of the new covenant of life saints which coincides with Revelation and Jesus predicting that all the righteouse blood shed on earth would be required of the generation in which he lived (see Matthew 23-29-36 as noted above). The second picture shows the armies surrounding Jerusalem just as Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 as noted above. The third picture is the picture of some of the stones of the from the western wall of the temple mount of the House of Death that were knocked into the streets by Roman bettering rams in 70 AD according to wikipedia. And the fourth and final picture shows the vessels of Death that were used in the House of Death under the Old Covenant of Death and Condemnation being carried off to Rome once and for all as the High Priest of the New Covenant/House of life and the spirit are manifesting the way into the holiest of all where He reigns as king over all His enemies including Death!!!

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?...And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world."

Romans 4:9-17

"Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. Matthew 23:32-36

Hebrews 13:9-14
