Whats been happening at Van Marciano Art...

Hi guys well I thought I'd write a short blog post just to let you know on what's been happeng at Van Marciano Art. Over the last 6 months we have been quietly working away on several new online business ventures. one of which we launched late last year and has had a successful first year.

We launched UK Business Link in November 2009, an online local business directory offering businesses an opportunity to list their businesses in an affordable search engine friendly online business directory. We have already listed close to 300 businesses and look to list many more as we continue to market the business.

Our second new online business venture is planned to be the biggest venture yet and we have been working very hard on this one for almost 8 months. Magnet4Marketing.com will be launched on October 1st 2010 and is an online blog offering free valuable information on all aspects of online business and internet marketing, so watch this space.

Van Marciano Art will continue to be our flagship business for at least another two years. We've had the most successful year yet and so will continue to thrive forward and push Fabrizio's artwork further into the limelight.

A full review of what we've been doing business and art wise will be posted after the launch of Magnet4Marketing.com, but in the meantime our art business is still very much open and we have several new art pieces available to buy right now.

Cheap Chinese Art Companies Crippling Western Art Culture

I’ve read many blogs and articles on how the Chinese cheap art market is ripping off the rest of the worlds art consumer market past and present with their mass produced paintings. Recreations of work varying from Van Goph to even merging living artists of today seem to be under threat. Of course it matters more to the likes of myself who are passionate about creating great art that I want to sell at good prices. But websites seem to be popping up all over the internet these days with a significant title related to buying cheap and crap art from china, cheap oil painting reproductions. This along with mass produced canvas prints and poster is not going to make it any easier for merging artists wanting to get on their feet and fulfilling their dreams of making a living from their art. I would love to hear what others are feeling about this issue, especially other artists.

Fabrizio’s passion for creating beautiful artwork has always come from deep within his admiration for the ocean. Over the last five years of his art career he has created and perfected a unique style of seascape paintings that has graced the walls of homes and businesses in their thousands. Fabrizio’s passion for creating original art is also fuelled by his passion for making every piece of his unique paintings completely affordable. More About Our Cityscape Canvas Art

Fabrizio ventured into painting cityscape paintings in early 2004 with a small collection he did which showcased on the EBSQ art and ZeroOne Art website in late 2004. Such art titles were 'Urban Dusk' and 'Moonlight on the Streets' were amongst some of his popular pieces capturing the refelction of a moonlight off towering glass fronted city blocks. This year having been asked on numerous occassions to create his own collection of city canvas art we're delighted to see Fabrizio tailoring his own depictions of New York City in depth and colours never seen before by this artist. Unlike many hand-painted cityscape canvas paintings Fabrizio's greater attention to detail can clearly be seen by accurately making out individually painted focal points of interests such as billboard logo's, lines and shadows, street lights reflecting of the buildings, cars etc. Take a look closely and you will find a lot more happening in our cityscape paintings than just blobs of colour and abstract shapes in an attempt to make up a cityscape painting.

New Canvas Art for Spring 2010

With 2010 well underway, we've been relatively busy these recent months. Our little workshop is now bustling with new canvas art created by resident artist Fabrizio Van Marciano. We have some new tantilising sunset paintings inspired by some local spots surrounding North Cornwall in store. We will soon be adding these to the Van Marciano Art website soon. Creating a hand-painted Union Jack Canvas Painting

I’ve recently had a commission request to create a rather large canvas painting of the Union Jack. To get me started I decided to paint one on a smaller scale at first to get an idea and feel of how I was going to create the final large piece. The original commissioned piece measured 39” high x 48” wide. My client requested this piece to be framed, mounted and glazed as well.

Stage 1 – Since I wasn’t using any templates for this, as accurately as possible I pencilled out the lines and shapes, measuring distances and keeping everything as symmetrical as possible. The best way I found to do this was to find the centre point of the canvas and measure out the initial cross as accurate as possible and then identify the triangles and lines that make up the Union Jack as shown below.

Stage 2 – This stage after identifying and correcting mistakes I then began to paint the initial cross and red lines using Cadmium Red Hue acrylic mixed with flame Red gouache. As with all our canvas paintings I use a watered down mix of colour before applying a second layer of a more prominent colour.

Stage 3 – Here the painting is slowly starting to look like the Union Jack and so I continue by painting in the blue areas using neat Winsor Blue acrylic mixed with a little Ultramarine Blue gouache using the same principle as when painting the red parts.

So there you have it ladies and gentleman, a nicely commissioned canvas art of the Union Jack. I have had similar requests in the past and have successfully completed commissions of the USA flag which proved to quite time consuming but the result have been quite exquisite. So there’s no need for a canvas print when we can create stunning and unique canvas paintings of any form or shape, making them that extra special.

“I am so thankful to God for what I’m able to do. The wake up call at 7am is breakfast and priority one to see what the surf’s doing. That’s my major source of inspiration for creativity. Without it my paintings would deeply suffer that I do believe that. I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else or doing anything else for a living, it just isn’t appealing to wake up living in a noisy restless city and going off to work when play time begins. I’m perhaps selfish in saying that the rest of the UK is pretty bland compared to what I’ve experienced and seen here in Cornwall. I’ve seen a lot of it and haven’t really been that impressed (laughs). I’m at the mercy of this place and will forever remain its slave, gladly.”

Fabrizio Van Marciano’s Latest Collection of Surf Art Reviewed by Samantha Wright

Van Marciano Art has gone from strength to strength over the years and this is due to the driving force and passion for painting by owner and artist Fabrizio Van Marciano. Fabrizio has been somewhat pretty busy over the last recent months not only preparing for a busy festive season but also preparing for the coming of his latest collection of a series of collection of canvas paintings that is due for exploding into the limelight in early 2010. We now catch up with the artist in his home studio in North Devon and find out what he has in store for us.

SW – So Fabrizio, how have you been?

FVM – Good thanks Sammy.

SW – Ok so you’ve been busy with so many things orientating around your art career at the moment, tell us what’s been happening.

FVM – Well to be honest so much has happened I don’t really know where to start (laughs) it’s been a relatively busy summer in fact the busiest summer for the website alone. We’ve had a large number of commission orders of various subjects and themes that in some instances we’ve had to turn customers away which was pretty heartbreaking at times. I’ve been going it alone for the majority of the year, painting and admin and marketing etc but it’s kept me out of trouble (laughs).

SW – Ok so the website has been quiet popular then?

FVM – Yes we’ve been online since 2003 and have gone from strength to strength really and we now don’t have to rely on any other online selling platform which is a dream come true. We’ve spent a lot of money and double the amount of time in getting things right from initial design to marketing to anything that needs to be done really. We’ve finally found our corporate image for the website now which is black and sienna.

SW – I understand that the whole website design was of your own work?

FVM – Yes it was indeed, it’s something that I’ve always had a keen interest in and when it comes to the VMA website it does get my full attention.

SW – Any other web projects?

FVM – Yes I recently launched a new business directory website UK Business Link which has gone down a treat with submissions. It really has taken off faster than I imagined.

SW – Ok now tell us about your painting, you’ve been a fulltime artist for just over five years now, how has it been?

FVM – (Sighs) Well its been a little bit of a rollercoaster ride really as I said we have been going from strength to strength since the start, but even then their were hurdles which some I didn’t quiet make it over. I put everything into painting and forgot the life I was living which sucked badly. I started surfing about 3 years ago which made me realise that there were more to life than stressing out about what I couldn’t get right in my art. And so I found new inspiration in painting seascapes which was a real turning point for me personally.

SW: Which brings me to your new collection of canvas paintings inspired by your surfing and life experiences, are these going to be amongst the best of your collections to date?

FVM – Well we put a few of the new wave surf art on the website and they were gone before the week was out… I was astonished so I’ve now kept back all the new surf art paintings for 2010. I do believe this is going to be a big hit in 2010 as we always do our best to push new designs from my collection out into the public eye. I’ve also been working on some agricultural paintings so watch this space.

SW – Brilliant we look forward to it. Now are you going to leave the website alone or are we expecting another facelift next week?

FVM – (Laughs) Get the f*&k out of my studio…

‘St Ives Harbour’ Canvas Painting – Day Two

We're now in day two of creating our harbour canvas painting of St Ives harbour. So far I've put in about 22 hours into this painting and the progress I'd like to say I'm relatively happy with so far. In some places you will notice that I've re-shaded some of the darker areas which I did yesterday. I'll probably be doing this until I'm happy with the overall shading of the painting itself. I've tried painting and shading as close to natural light as possible. This enables me to get a natural look and feel to the style of painting that I'm pretty new to and is certainly different from my other canvas paintings. To be continued...

‘St Ives Harbour’ Canvas Painting - Day One

Day One

I've begun work on a new piece of canvas painting today based on photographic images of St Ives Harbour which I took during the summer. When I took the picture it wasn't really a nice summers day to be honest so I've added some light, imagining that it was a beautiful day that day. So I begin with working on the initial colour base using medium strength acrylic colours, working with long strokes adding lighter shades as I arrive to the horizon which I do a lot of in my work. Today I also spent an hour or so outlining the main parts of the harbour and houses in pencil before starting with shading in the lighter sides of the buildings (where the light source is coming from)... Duck Egg Blue Canvas Paintings

I felt the need to write about one of the most popular colours we've had a fantastic year with this year, which is in duck egg blue and raw umber. As you know we create our canvas paintings from an original idea based from inspiring photographs taken on our Cornish road trips from time to time. A while back we stayed in St Ive's where I was commissioning a number of paintings for a hotel down there. I remember looking out of the window and seeing the lighthouse over at Godrevy and thought to myself that would be a great subject to use in some of my paintings. Anyway after some time 'A Day At St Ives' was born, an acrylic modern seascape setting painted in duck egg blue and raw umber which featured the lighthouse in the distance.

Little did I know that I would receive over 25 commissions this year purely based on this original creation. Since then I've put the brush to work on some new canvas paintings based on 'A Day At St Ives'.

I do believe that this shade represents an overwhelming presence of tranquility light and hope and I've seen how it can light up even the darkest of rooms where very little light shines through. As we fall into autumn we hope to have quite a few new duck egg blue canvas paintings available to buy from our online store.

I just wanted to elaborate or take a closer look at the goings on at Van Marciano Art.com, furthermore a closer look at Fabrizio's breathtaking canvas paintings.

Van Marciano Art.com was founded by resident artist Fabrizio Van Marciano over 6 years ago. His first painting sold in November of 2003 for around about ten pounds. Well its been a pretty busy last three weeks and now we have finally added the finishing touches to the online art store at www.vanmarcianoart.com

Weve had our delivery of canvas supplies today which will be keeping me busy over the next few weeks creating some new canvas paintings for our online store. This time of year always brings out some of the most beautiful ocean sunsets ever to grace the British shores, and I feel it does this best in Cornwall. I have managed to accumulate quite a number of photographs from my recent surfing trips this summer, and having been back in the studio for less than two weeks, I have already turned one of my photographs into a beautiful sunset canvas painting.
