Yesterday we were in Google Maps Mania, one of the very first blogs to cover online map mashups, and in slashgeo, which is the equivalent of slashdot for geography. Today we were mentioned (along with some excellent commentary) in Geographic Travels with Catholicgauze. Thanks all!

After months of denying that “Free Speech Zones” even exist, the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit finally announced the location of these protest zones on Thursday, rebranding them as optional “Safe Assembly Areas.” If using these areas is optional and free speech is still allowed everywhere, then what’s the point, we ask? If these are the “safe” areas, then what are we supposed to think about everywhere else?

We’ll leave these questions for later. For now, we give you our Map of Olympics Safe Assembly Areas.

We’re in The Tyee

The Tyee (which is a great local paper, if you haven’t heard of it) talks about our project in a post on their blog, The Hook. The post “New experiments in 2010 media landscape” outlines our Wikipedia-style “crowdsourced” approach, and also covers the launch of the aggregating site 2010.mediacoop.ca from the Vancouver Media Cooperative.
