Any art openings that happen on halloween and have a skate park have my stamp of approval

Look’s great, and word is that the works are all EXTREMELY affordable.

Props to Guero on the photos. It is nice to see some new work in this neighborhood. This spot especially has had an interesting history. As you can see there was an old old swoon piece right next to that pipe running along the wall, and an elbowtoe poster down the block. About two years ago I put up that horseman once the swoon piece was torn down and then everything fell apart. There was one individual who pursued every street piece in the neighborhood and effectively destroyed them with brown and orange spray paint. Considering how rich Gowanus was with street pieces, this was actually quite a travesty in my opinion. It went beyond the understood weathering of time and interaction to a place of unfortunate destruction. Whatever the intentions of the perpetrator were, they most definitely deterred anyone from going back and since then these streets have witnessed a real lull in new work. Given this background, it is wonderful to see Imminent Disaster and Blanco returning and I hope that the threat of "the brown burner" has finally subsided. I love how the paper cut over the old cheekz piece reveals the paint of that hateful individual.

A few days ago I mentioned that Barry McGee and Phil Frost had a two man show opening at the brand new PRISM Gallery in LA. Last night was the opening, and it looks spectacular. Arrested Motion has dozens of pictures, but here are a few that I’ve taken from them.

Of course, Phil Frost is The Guy when it comes to painting tiki-themed artwork.

And then there is Barry McGee. Brilliantly awesome.

This November, Factory Fresh brings together four elusive artists who each work seamlessly in between the worlds of graffiti and streetart. These two art forms look identical to the untrained eye but in actuality are more like brawling brothers to those who are part of the movement. Artists Armer, Darkcloud, Goreb and Deeker are a few exceptions. Each of their work ranges on the street one day a large scale mural, another day carefully placed signs or paintings, sometimes even a junk sculpture is installed onto a crowded street. As a result these artists cannot be dismissed by any group of urban artists and have been validated by their acceptance from multiple ranges of critcs.

Blu has been busy in the Colombian capital lately for Memoria Canalla, a project organized by Bastardilla and Stinkfish. Martha Cooper and Onesto, who both traveled to the city in September, are amongst others who have participated.
