Fullscreen Flash Video

Adobe has just released the ability to do Full-screen Flash Video (Well full-screen Flash anything really).

*** You must have version 9,0,18,60 or greater to use full-screen mode ***

Go here to verify you have version 9,0,18,60 or greater. If not go here to install the latest version (As of right now I could not get the IE plug-in to work correctly, but it worked fine form Opera and Firefox).

To go into Full-screen mode, right click on the movie to bring up the menu. Then choose "Go Full Screen". That is it. If you are not allowed to choose to go to Full-screen then you most likely do not have the newest version, please read the steps above.

Play FLV files

On2 has released the FLV playback DirectShow filters with the demo version of Flix Pro. This will let you play FLV files in any DirectShow Player, like Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic. You need to download the Flix Pro demo from www.on2.com and install on your machine to get the FLV playback DirectShow filters.

We have released versions for Windows and Mac. There are some really cool features with this version. Namely chroma key support and FLV cue points.

Full Length Episodes in Flash Video

ABC is putting up full length episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives, Alias, and Commander in Chief. New episodes will be up to watch the day after they air on TV. Check it out, this is great.

Have not posted in a while. But this blog was pretty much about my work with Flash and Flix. Been pretty busy with work and a new baby. And lets be honest my life is ordinary besdies my work with flash. Well to other people :). Oh yeah I use smile faces. I fell like it is a big Internet faux pas, but luckily I do not care.....

Play FLV files in Windows Media Player Tutorial

When you purchase the full version of Flix Pro you get the ability to playback FLV files in any DirectShow Player, like Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic.

The direct show filters installed will also let you import FLV files into any direct show compatible editor.

How to playback Flash MX (H.263) files in a direct show compatible player.

Download ffdshow filter. Goto http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow and download ffdshow-20041012

Run the installer.
Click the "Start Menu". Then choose the "All Programs" -> "ffdshow" -> "Configuration". This will popup a ffdshow properties dialog box.
Click the "Codecs" text in the left hand list box.
The "Supported Codecs" list box will appear. Scroll down until you see "FLV1" in the format column.
In the decoder column next to "FLV1" Click the "disabled" text. Then click again to drop down the combo box. Choose "libavcodec" and click the OK button.
You can now play Flash MX files in any direct show player.

Cartoon Classics in Flash video

On2 has put up 3 old cartoons on their website. The one with Bugs Bunny is one of my favorites. The files were compressed in Flash 8 video.

Add Flash detection to all your video posts

I will try and make this as easily as possible to add Flash detection code to all of your posts in your blog.

Step 1: Navigate to your template for your blog. See here for information on blooger.com templates.

Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of my blog and click on the text in the "Flash Detection 8 Detection code". This will select all of the code. Then right click and selct "Copy" to copy the selected text to your clipboard.

Step 3: In your template code we want to put the copied code somewhere in-between the html head tags. I put this directly after <$BlogMetaData$> entry in my template code. Once you have found where you want to put the copied code, left click to place the cursor. Then right click and select "Paste" to copy the code form your clipboard to your template code.

Step 4: Scroll down to the bottom of my blog and click on the text in the "<$BlogItemBody$> replace code". This will select all of the code. Then right click and selct "Copy" to copy the selected text to your clipboard.

Step 5: Find the <$BlogItemBody$> tag in your template code. Select <$BlogItemBody$> text and then right click and select "Paste".

Step 6: Publish your template.

Now users to your site should see the video or be prompted to update their Flash plug-in.

How to Create your own Video Blog tutorial

What better why to kick off my video blog or vlog....

Then with a video tutorial on how I created my video blog. I use Flash, which is a great platform to deliver your video posts, especially since they added vp6 video to Flash 8. More and more people are switching to flash to deliver video, just ask Google Video.

I broke the tutorial into 5 steps:
1. Create a blog account on www.blogger.com.
2. Create an account on blip.tv. This is where your videos will be hosted for free.
3. Create your video post using Flix Pro.
4. Upload your video to blip.tv.
5. Publish a video post on your blog.

You will also want to add code to check that people viewing your blog has the correct flash version. I added the code to check and update users at the bottom of my blog. You will have to copy and paste all of the text into in your blogger.com template. See here for information on blooger.com templates.

The only tool I use to create straight video posts is Flix Pro. I am also one of the programmers who work on Flix Pro, so if anyone has any feature requests send them to me at vanderhugeblog ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com.
