I've been creating patterns for 110+ Up-Cycled purses, accessories, record sleeves, art and more. It's been a PJ's filled, highly creative and productive 5 days, but now it's time to sew. My sewing machine scares me. I stare with attempts of a conquer, chanting "you will sew through any material I tell you to"... It's not working... I'll start fresh in the morning, yeah... that's what I'll do!

I was initially excited to work at Coyote Ugly Nashville. I figured the job requires everything that I am good at and have made a really good living doing in the past, Emcee, singing, dancing, bartending, selling; why not?! Unfortunately, and as forewarned by the GM that hired me, "There is more drama here than you will ever experience." My bad, I thought my peace loving personality would be a repellant to that being an option in my life... and in the end it was.

There is a manager there named _______ , a girl that is initially pretty, until you learn a thing or two about her, then she just becomes utterly disgusting. She suffers from what I call cunt girl syndrome. There wasn't a single damn thing that I could say or do around this girl, without her having a problem with it. It started with lunch at BB Kings next door during a break from dance practice. There was conversation at the table about girls going to New Orleans for Mardi Gra and I was like "I'll go!, that sounds awesome!" Of course they aren't going to say "go new girl you got this!", but it was a comment in passing, you know, to join the conversation. That gets taken as "who the fuck does Vanessa think she is?!" Then... there are straight up lies told to my GM about me selling my CD behind the bar. If anyone knows anything about me, they know that I don't even sell CD's I do download cards and I wasn't doing anything like that. But if someone asks about me, of course I am going to share that I am an artist. _______ suggested I be someone different at the bar lol "I don't know you could be one person on day and another the next you don't have to be Vanessa Diaz" Why in the world would I want to be anyone but me??

I was then put on merchandising shifts for two weeks. I bit my tongue and after the first week, I had requested a real bartending shift because I was not hired as a merch girl. That was enough to have me pulled off the schedule for the week.

When I was officially fired today. I was told I missed a shift and regardless of the fact that I was never once sent my schedule prior to said shift, it's my fault. I apparently don't gel with the girls and don't know what I am doing on a mic or bartending according to them. I think it's obvious that I was set up to be fired. We are both Alphas, but I'm the kind that takes care of the young, not slaughters and feeds on them for an overindulgent snack.

In the conversation my ego wanted so bad to say but wait.... and try to prove my case and how I have been wronged, but instead, I gave up being right because it does not matter. There are few things that I believe in with certainty every day in life. One of those things is energy. We are all energy and vibrate at different frequencies. It's as simple as this, my vibrational energy rests in a higher frequency than most I was dealing with at Coyote Ugly. Just like magnets that repel from one another when not facing the proper flow, this job was quickly repelled from my life. Thank YOU!!!

Hello Nashville!!

The past month and a half has flown by! Let me catch you up, I could use a recap myself! After coming to Nashville for my last tour show for the year on 10/14, I was presented with a wonderful opportunity. I'm not allowed to say too much at the moment, but I will be in a documentary type show about what I have been up to, that airs in the Spring! I'll fill you in on more as I am contractually allowed. With that said, I look forward to the next few months of prepping for miracles.

I've started working on the record with Pino Squillace at Boom Lab studios in Music Row. Him and Jerry Navarro, who once played together with Muzic Mafia, are now partners and creating an amazing space for Music, Integrity, Love, Diversity and Growth at Boom Lab. I feel like I found a family with them and am very grateful.

To help in getting settled in financially, I picked up a side job at Coyote Ugly. I've had a great time dancing and having dance practices again, it's been a long time. I forgot how much I love it, but I also forgot about haters lol... I have a couple of those there...pretty ridiculous. I have surrounded my life the past six months by so many amazing new friends and lovers, probably because my vibration was at such an elevated level while I was doing exactly what I wanted every day. That kind of energy is like a "good shit" magnet lol I'm there with the hopes to be able to continue practicing at my performance craft by singing, playing guitar and dancing, doing some covers while bringing in cash. We'll see how it goes. I was considering Rolling In The Deep and Shout Bamalama (Otis Redding). Do you guys have any suggestions?

I have Sammy with me! We got a place that is perfect and private. While I was on the road I began making a wish list of what I wanted in my next place to live. I have them all! There is a sewing area, studio, den, art studio and bedroom split into four little rooms that link in a circle on the second floor, perfect for ADD beneficiaries like me!

Today I'm blogging (Yeay! Captain Obvious!) and working on patterns for some new up-cycled bags I'm making. I saw these guys taking down the banners on 2nd street and was like "hey! hey! Mr.! Mr. sign man wait up!!" I asked and received these once doomed to a landfill banners! I can't wait to see what the final creation will look like. Due to the materials always varying in size I'm not in the business of making two of a kind ANYTHING and I love it!

Love Your World Tour paused...

After driving about 9000 miles throughout the beautiful East half of the USA on my Love Your World Tour, I have made it back to Nashville where I will complete the new record that I have been working on the past year and a half. I'm waiting for contracts so I can finalize a partnership on the project, so I feel a bit in limbo without another solid date booked or studio recording scheduled. I suppose this is where I take a moment to breathe, reorganize and start sharing all the wonderful stories and people that I have met on my tour adventures.
For now, I'll book shows within a 6 hour radius of Nashville, find a gym to become a member so that I may have a lovely shower everyday, while I live in my teardrop and at the studio to make this album lucrative success. Somethings gotta give by the years end : ) I want a place to call home here in Nashville through March with a bathtub, a lot of natural light, a real mattress, parking for Blue & Zo (my teardrop camper) and of course Sammy my beagle! I can't wait to go pick him up!

I put on his earphones. I remember that his always had the right ear blown. He returned yesterday too, when I left Jami's home and her family. I put on Adele 21 and it was exactly what I needed. It was a repeat combination of Take It All, Someone Like You and Lovesong that released it. She sang what I felt, it was so good to have company in this misery.

Leaving a family structure, like the one that I lost the desire to have after him, deeply saddened me. When is the next time I'll ever get that? It won't happen to me in my most probable future, but then again, every hour has been uncertain as of late. I digress.

Nashville has won my heart, yet again.

I made sure that I was able to see my dear friend Pam in Nashville at the start of my Love Your World tour. It was her 50th birthday and about a year anniversary since we drove 40 west, moving her out of LA and stopping at the Grand Canyon with our two dogs Sammy and Blue. I ended up staying in Nashville for about two weeks and fell in love with the people, almost as much as the shades of green that filled my eyes. It is truly breathtaking, especially after living in LA, were mostly, things are brown. Even when the smog isn't there, but I digress, there will always be an undying love for LA too. Nashville would end up being my home in the near future. This I was certain.

Fast forward, I wasn't able to book many gigs in Nashville prior to arriving, but that didn't mean anything. I was out there meeting as many people as possible and playing at anytime or place. I met a few new friends that really believed in me, they connected me with one person, then that lead to another and before you know it, I turned one booking into 10 shows in two weeks. Sigh.... wow, what a whirlwind of unexpected miracles. : )

Wonderful new friends!

I became a member of NSAI and I have nothing, but amazing things to say about everyone I met in the office and what they provide. I jumped in on a workshop while I was there, by Steve Dean, and learned a few things about the Marriage of Lyric & Melody. I also had a mentoring session scheduled to share my songs and be given guidance. The coolest part about it though, he said "What I say is just another opinion, do what you will with it." Good stuff! I'm not a members kind of girl, I've never really felt like I was a part of any group oriented system that shared my passion in growing and honoring my hearts desires besides Landmark Education. I'm very grateful for NSAI and am looking forward to becoming more active with them.

I'm now in North Carolina and continuing on the Love Your World tour and even though I'm a gypsy in my teardrop, I know my new home is now called Nashville.

I posted some of my writings from last year that I was unable to share because I simply was not strong enough to until now. I have come so far since then and I am proud of the woman I have become.

I am currently on tour and LOVING it! In the last blog I shared the peak of my happiness in my life and I must say that it does not even compare to where I am in now. Where I live from now is a place of honor for myself and honor for others. The process of getting there took a multitude of healing methods, education, creative outlets and more than anything, acceptance.

Since the restitution is a bunch of bullshit, I sought out counseling for myself with a lot of persistent encouragement from a dear friend that went through the same thing. She took me to the Women in Distress Center, the last place I wanted to go. They really should change the name of it. Who the hell wants to walk into a place that is already telling you your fucked up in the title. All that aside, it was the best thing I could have done for myself. I had 12 one on one hour sessions with my counselor for free, it is the only way it would have been possible. I was so happy and nervous to have someone I could talk to about everything. I didn't have that outside of her. Talking to someone that came from a place of compassion and was knowledgeable of the tools it would take for me to move past this was key. She created a plan of action as to how we where going to get me where I needed to go and it worked. I learned about abusers and how everything is ultimately about power and control. She gave me this worksheet that I later shared with my mother, who is divorced from my father, and she reacted the same way I did when I saw it and said "wow, all of this is your father." That is why I shared it with her. When you grow up around red flags, they aren't warning signs, they are just part of what you understand life to be.

I lied to myself about "the love of my life," because I wanted to believe that someone wanted to spend the rest of their lives loving me. I would imagine a uhaul parked in front of the house while he was not home and me loading my things and leaving. I made threats thats I would if he didn't cool his temper and I told him on several occasions to let me go if he was not happy, but the truth is, I didn't have the guts to do it myself.

It was a pivotal moment as I spoke to my counselor and said "As much as I would love for him to fall into the category of the .09% of abusers that do not ever abuse again, and even if there was a way that I was guaranteed that he would not... I would still NEVER go back to him. I deserve someone that will honor and love me for the woman I have become, someone who will encourage my light to shine as bright as it is intended to, as I will him." At that last session, I was complete.

The emotions that have run through me since all that has happened are exhausting to say the very least. I've experienced everything... devastation, fear, vehement, betrayal, fake happy for a moment (I needed that bowl), mournful and more. I died that night and so did he.

I was literally giggling in bed the night prior to the indecent with him wrapped around me in bed with attempts to fall asleep as I said "I am so grateful for my life and all that we have, I have never been happier. I am engaged to the love of my life (papo) that I just started a band with (You Rebel, You…how appropriate), we make incredible music, laugh a lot, share the same traditional values in family, a recording studio in our home, a massage table to enjoy massaging one another by candle light, a big table were I can spread out all my organic and vintage recycled fabrics to create new clothes, a piano to play, an easel to paint, my first nationwide tour in the summer, Sammy my beagle that recovered from paralysis this year, and most of all the health of my family and friends.” I can’t ask for anything more, well, except for the creditors to stop calling. I’m filing for bankruptcy. The calls will stop soon….

He spent the day with my family as I worked. He and my mom came to pick me up from work. We went home that evening but before we left he sat with my mom on her bed as she folded clothes and told her how much he loved me and wanted to marry me, no reason to wait. Does he have her blessing to marry me. She said yes. I didn’t need a card flowers, jewelry or candy. I had all that I ever wanted. My family and than man I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I couldn’t ask for more. He shared the same ideas of a future together.

My heart is heavy and sits at my feet making it difficult to step forward and leave, leave the dream behind, the fantasy that I believed to be everything divine. Rattles my spirit. I can’t look behind.

I’m going to miss you, the lies I left behind. You kept me warm when cold death wanted to take me over. Thank you for the dream, thank you for the fantasy, now that the sun has begun to radiate inside me, I know what I can have now. Happiness begins with mine & it all doesn’t look so bad.

She Heart's Charlie

Charlie came into her life unexpectedly. Each piece of him told a story from a different life experience. He had a 57 body, 59 neck, 54 pods, and early 70's tuners. Others must have loved him dearly too for him to have stuck around this long. It has all made him what he is today, and regardless of how he was put together when he was placed in her hands, he was perfect, with all his imperfections. Charlie made her feel things she had never felt. He was her new love.

My Favorite Sweater

I only own one sweater, simply because no other, finer cotton, or brand can feel better on my spirit than this one.  I thought I packed it for my move back East. I have been thinking about the Story Telling sweater periodically, but had not known if I left it at the house in Calabasas. See, I have owned this since I was 15 years old and have spent some of the happiest, coziest, sickest, saddest, and warmest times in this sweater. I feel like it gets me, the way I would like friends to do sometimes. Just, be with me.

I was searching for my tax documents all day and finally found them with the "important things" that were lost for nine months since the move. Underneath the paper work was a silver bag and in it were some of my favorite pictures of us, the meteorite wedding band I wanted to give him, and my sweater. It smelled like our home once upon a time where the coyotes yelled, we lived with the hording issue of a funny Russian landlord, and many other strange, but fun oddities all around. We had something different and it was fuckin cool. Now, the scent that is lingering all over me reminds me of what will never be again and that is a good thing because, one day, this moment will never be again either.

Nothing ever remains the same until you're dead.

The birth of Moxie Industries

Thanks for stopping by to read : ) I'll use the trailer from the previous blog as a guideline for the rest. Let's start with the birth of Moxie Industries Eco Fashion, Music & Art, my company. I have always been a lover of nature and the arts in every form. The part that I struggled with is choosing which path to take. Everyone has told me "Pick one thing Vanessa," but why? I wanted to combine all of my passions under one umbrella and promote talented artists, whether musicians, designers, or painters that want to contribute to the environment also. Slowly but surely the day arrived and I launched Moxie Industries with the "Love Your World" event that included a fashion show with my organic cotton clothing line, released my first solo album and showcased some magnificent artists.

I remember being introduced to the models at the casting as "the designer" and blushing. I've never been called that and that's when I got it, ohh I am huh? It felt good, but not as good as the day of the show when we did our first run through and I was at the end of the runway sitting on a table with my knees to my chest, I que the music and the beautiful spirits that wore my clothes come out one at a time… WORKING IT. I start to tear up and shake with excitement that the day has arrived. All my hard work is evident and worth every mistake, learning curve, heart ache, broken needle, dollar spent and risk taken.

Even better than that!!! My abuela in the front row the night of the launch. She designed and crocheted the organic bikinis from my basic patterns! She worked in a factory sewing for forty years and I've learned a couple things from her like making scrunchies to sell at school for extra $ as a kid. Here she is at 84 years old having sewed for years and never getting acknowledged for it until this day. She got to have her designs on a runway! I was so proud of her! I know she felt amazing and I saw a tear, although she may deny it. She is pretty freaking great.

Here goes everything! I've put off this video trailer for a few months now. It shows me at my best and well... almost at my worst, which I will share about on this blog and in my music. The process of stepping into the artist that I am, fully expressed, is a vulnerable and frighting place. I believe it would be more frighting to ignore my souls purpose and wonder around life doing what everyone thinks I "should" do. I call that shoulding all over yourself and I can't imagine it smells very good. I just don't fall in line that way, so be it. I crave beauty and find it in the seemingly ugly, I lust for creative expression in all forms and if you ask me " What do you want to do?" I'll always say something I have not done.

I have spent my entire life looking for an answer and no matter how many times I hear what I so desperately want to hear, it falls on deaf ears. I have learned that I will never be able to receive it from anyone else but myself at first. It is when I take a stand to live the life that I want to live without giving into societal beliefs on how I should live, that I will begin to love and honor myself. This is when I will no longer have to ask "do you love me?" because at that moment, I have made the choice to fall in love with myself.

My friends and family have all given me caca for falling in love so much, for giving everything, for not holding back, for believing that this is the one every time and for it obviously not working out since I am not married with children by now. But who is to say it didn't work out? Why does married with children equate success?  I believe that they all worked out as they should have. I have beautiful memories, experiences, lessons learned, and if I close my eyes I go back to my last love, the only one I said yes to, and remember the fantasy he fed me. Even though he was the greatest (so far), I walked away knowing that I can do better than an angry insecure man.

A new love affair begins...

It begins by spending a lot of time alone honoring the feelings that I have yet to deal with completely, regarding the most difficult year of my life; that I now say has ended. Now... I write, sing, play guitar, cry, laugh, dance, be with family, let go, explore, travel, rockNroll, connect, love, swim, savor, sleep, and repeat over and over and over again. I think I can actually hear it now, maybe it's not unanswerable after all.

Getting it all out

So I have decided to start vlogging and blogging about all that is going on, in what is the most incredible time of my life. I have been tested in more ways than you can imagine the past year and it is still coming. I am praying for a miracle and that miracle will come with perseverance, faith, honesty and discipline. I have been video taping a lot of my journey the past two months, so I will be editing several and putting them up so you can catch up with my life if you choose. For me, it's about discovery, it's about being 100% authentic, fully expressed so that I may heal and truly create a life beyond everything wonderful I ever have ever imagined. I can only begin to help others if I take a moment to help myself.
