Rosemary, a past student of Vannetta Seecharran School of Jewellery, recently attended another class with us. Since she was last here she has made some beautiful collections of jewellery which she sells. She uses semi-precious stone, pearls and silver findings to accent her pieces. Her jewellery has been selling successfully at craft fairs and jewellery parties.

She sent me some pictures of her work which I would like to share…

In 2007 I was one of four artists commissioned to create work for The Shape of Things conference held at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery.

I created a series of rings made from plastic shopping bags. The rings were stitched and formed into wearable rings. Each attendee received a ring in exchange for a till receipt.  The aim of the exchange was to engage and involve the wearer in the process.

The Shape of Things has launched the first exhibition. Rosa and Alinah are amongst eight artists, including Seiko Kinoshita, Halima Cassell, Tanvi Kant, Taslim Martin, Chien Wei Chang and Maggie Scott who have been awarded bursaries by the shape of things to create new work for exhibition at four venues across the country, starting with Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery. We ran a Wire Jewellery class this weekend which covered wire wrapping, manipulating wire and combining beads and wire. Everyone made really great work  such as this bracelet and earrings set shown below. The bracelet was made using 1.2mm wire shaped with round nose pliers and glass beads. All materials are supplied on these classes.

We had a lovely group of beginner beaders on the class last Saturday who made some beautiful pieces of jewellery. They learnt how to make to make earring hooks (two different styles) wrap beads, use jump rings, crimping, clasp making and how to make a multi-strand bracelet. They went home proud of their creations, some of which are show below. Aren’t they fantastic?
