FYI I was the second engineer of a studio in Pasadena that you might’ve heard of called 54 E. sound recorders. There was an engineer named Bronco friends with Gene Shively; the mixer ant 54 E. and his friend whom I understudied; second engineer Fred Mitchel (digital mastering pioneers formed CMS DIGITAL for CD production and mastering from a truck Bronco owned Similar to yours. It was 1979. Their friend Bronco had a remote truck, parked around the corner from the 54 E. (which I hand wired with 6 miles of audio cable, 60 thousand trimmed and soldered leads, to connect the console with all the outboard gear, patch bay and inputs and outputs spread around the studio with Newtrix Connectors, interfacing the Ampex 12 track (MM1200) & 24 track( MM2400 ) Recorders with the 40 track API automated console. Those were some fun days living my dream. Or at least one of them.

I just finished “a visit” with mother at the nursing home. It’s chilly today so I sat in my car and we FaceTimed. She had to go to the bathroom that takes her quite a while so I told her I would see her later. I went to Kings market and picked up my dinner sandwich.

I normally park on the curb in traffic and sit outside in full view of the only room in the nursing home that has a window at ground floor, hers! But in the middle of the day there’s too much traffic. So I decided to get some exercise.

I’m on my way up to the nature center in Tenafly to take a little walk, Shoot some still photographs, and fly my drone for an aerial view.

I’m picking up speed now going uphill on this very crappy road, which they leave crappy so that people don’t get speed up; a good idea keep it bumpy. When driving up hill, speed and inertia helps. But people are out walking; either coming up or going down. They either live in the neighborhood or come here to challenge themselves. I went slow and finally arrived. I’m going to visit the owls. They were sleeping in “dark providing boxes in their cages and not visible.

At Tenafly Nature Center yellow trail I’m walking. It’s rare that I get exercise but here’s my chance to be an invigorating day it’s a probably in the mid 40s maybe 50 and I see a woman and a nice green shirt that is on the trail in front of me and she’s pausing to look at it over at Vista it’ll be a chance to fly my drone and make a new friend she reminded me of Kachina from the back

Last night Larry Gragnano passed away after a brief illness.

I had been with him two days ago on my trip to Flat Rock Brook Nature Center. I needed to get some fresh air in nature after being cooped up in my room in Bergenfield New Jersey night and day – because of the COVID-19 virus.

So I went to Flat Rock, inviting moms closest and only two friends in the area to join me. Elona liked the idea and agreed to meet…advising that Larry was having mobility problems.

Before Elona & I hiked in a little way from the road where we parked, She helped Larry get out of the car and into a chair by the curb where he sat pretty much immobilized.

He didn’t seem to have any ability to control regular movement. Elona had to coach him to move and get out of the car. She got him into a beach chair she put outside the car for him.

He could hardly move. He didn’t appear to be in any pain. I found a walking stick on the trail and thinking it might help him, I offered it to Larry… letting it drop 6 inches from my hand towards his arm. I THOUGHT he would reflexively reach out for it. It was both a test and an offering that I’d hoped would help him?

But instead of instantly reaching out to stop it from hitting him, he didn’t move a muscle but turned his head and looked angrily at me…it was so out of character. Something was very wrong.

With Elona’s help it took him five minutes to get from the car seat to the beach chair she put out for him. It was hard to see Larry in such very bad shape. Two days later he was dead.

Comedy of errors leaving things behind – losing my drone controller by forgetting I put it on car roof and driving off – after visiting mom this morning, I went back at dusk so I could see her without the glare of the day reflecting off her window.

I walked the streets until I found the controller after dusk. I got home and realized I left my light-up-walking-stick behind; leaning against the outside wall at Moms. So it was back to the nursing home to recover it, then finally back home.

The landlady just texted me that the Internet is not working and she’ll look into it tomorrow which doesn’t work for me since I’m up half the night doing my web work.

After she goes to sleep I’ll see what I can do to make it work — I had to do that two nights ago. It’ll be like one or two in the morning. In the meantime I’ll work on composing songs on my keyboard. I’m thinking to Livestream My Piano Playing during this time of lockdown.

iPhone Lost Freak Out!

I tore my whole place apart! I was unable to find my phone anywhere. Do you know what that’s like to be missing your iPhone? The center of your universe. The key to your stocks, bank accounts, airline schedules, health information, it is such an important piece of technology, that it rarely leaves your hand.

Well not only did it leave my hand, it also left my jacket pockets, my pants pockets, and anywhere in my car!?

I searched my room high and low, I dialed it with my iPad using an app from Google called “Hangouts.”

Nothing but Silence! There was no ring anywhere! That left only one possible place; back at the nursing home – where I was flying my drone early this morning – about 11 o’clock which for me is early.

 so I hightailed it back to County Manor wear this morning, I was flying my drone taking pictures of Mother through the glaring window and also trying to capture some birds actually in Osprey and Eagle and God knows what else was up there selling so highUp on the wins which I try to duplicate but I couldn’t tell which was the front door which was the back of the drone and kept going on the wrong direction.

So here I am back at County Manor figuring I must’ve left the phone on the lawn and sure enough when I pulled up I heard a ring that sounded like my phone and it was muffled and I couldn’t find the phone it sounded like it was in one of my pockets so I looked around I didn’t see it and it rang again and I didn’t see it and then his Japanese couple walked on the sidewalk said is that your phone and sure enough there it was just to the left so I got back in the nick of time because I kept calling it and perhaps some stranger might’ve answered it? In fact maybe some stranger considered answering it but I didn’t want to get involved which is likely the case especially given the COVID-19 scenario

Yesterday we were told I would be able to take her off the premises…but there would be no visitation during this virus scare. They changed their tune and would not let me even see her! on the other side of the glass — as I have described in my Facebook posts:

Nursing home staff won’t bring mom down in elevator to the nursing home lobby where I am parked outside by the big glass windows; hoping we could at least see each other thru the glass and converse via phone. Neither she nor I are sick or exposed to coronavirus. But the ones who could make those decisions are unreachable. Maybe when the night staff comes

on we’ll have better luck? Between a rock and a hard place!

The photo is NOT of the nursing home. Her room has a window. Stood outside it this morn. Too much glare. I was able to wave at her from outside on the grass but I could only see her hand pressed up against the glass waving back and not her face due to the glare. It was much better to use smartphone video chat!

RAY T. I’ll be meeting him today to see About becoming a volunteer photographer for the Teaneck Film Festival. Then when I go back to Maui in June perhaps I can get a similar gig and have it pay for my airfare? It’s nice to dream anyway.

AT&T switch networks to 5G E which I am now discovering is delivering picture quicker from the Internet. But some people or challenged by the “upgrade” it makes me wonder why?

Up early as usual. I’ll be meeting my sister at Storage for moral support and to make sure moms sewing machine stays behind. She asked for it yesterday. It will give her something to do. She’s been saying she wants to make things she can sell. It’s great she still has her desire, passion and Spirit!

It’s at 11 o’clock in the morning she was asleep in bed everything is sopping wet from P or water I don’t know which?

I helped her get out of bed buckled her shoes got her in the wheelchair and called for a nurse or an aid to put a diaper on her.

There were a lot of new faces at County Manor walking around surveying things. I saw some new faces although they were untrained and communication is still an issue nobody was at the nurses station having been called away for a meeting when mom was in need.

I saw Larry at the post office after getting my breakfast bagel that I usually have for lunch, I’m going to the post office where I got my favorite magazine, Tech Briefs.

It’s a rainy day I’m headed to storage to meet with Lynne who has movers coming to haul her stuff down to Florida I don’t really have to be there.

Sad today at the library after visiting mother. The nursing home let her languish in her Pee soaked bed until I got there to help her get up and go to the bathroom. She had no diaper on and everything was wet. I spent the day at the library after seeing Lynn off. I got some DVDs to keep me company for the rest of the night.

I went to visit mother who had been ignoring my attempts to reach her via FaceTime .

It turns out she wasn’t ignoring me so much as being out of touch in general. I found her in a stupor in her wheelchair kind of nodding in and out.

When I FaceTimed her her phone rang and rang but she didn’t answer it – as if she didn’t hear it? When I showed up, she took her hearing aid out …instead of fixing it so she could hear better???

I had to leave because her babbling made it was impossible to have a conversation with her. But since I had been at the library and was so close, I thought I would check in on her just to make sure everything was OK.

It looked like she had dried blood or feces on the pinky of her right hand I asked the new nurse lady if she might take a look at it? She said, “in just a minute.” I waited and watched her from a distance for six minutes. I was watching her keep track of patient medications in a log book without ever lifting a finger to help my mother.

…or maybe that was dried poop on her pinky finger? Sometimes mother says she’s.  constipated and has to pick the poop out of her butt. (I’ve been there). I left to take care of my own needs.

I just came from the nursing home to visit mother. She was in a bitchy mood and began debasing me with poetry I took it in stride but had to tell her that if she keeps it up I won’t last long being here visiting with her and keeping her company. She said goodbye! And then she started watering me take her tray, get me an iPad, open it for me and put it on, will my wheelchair to the bed, make the bed, etc.

I shared I love you and took my flat and $.26 that the railroad flattened. I slept all the way to mothers who began complaining the moment I walked in why are you so late. Well I was preparing gifts for my friends and doing artwork and preparing to visit you etc. It didn’t matter she was bitchy and agreed when I called her Miss bitchy that she’s a bitch.
