I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of reading articles about “Why you need to have balance” or “Here’s how to have balance.”

The fact of the matter is, there is NO SUCH thing as balance. Ultimately what it boils down to is one thing:

Peace and happiness.

See, if you think about it, we want thing this called balance because what we’re really after is happiness and peace.

So why not just focus on being happy and peaceful rather than driving ourselves crazy trying to be balanced?

Life is fluid. Stuff happens. Things change.

And so my friends, today’s Keepin’ It Real video gets straight to this point.

What’s ONE thing you are going to do to focus on bringing more peace and happiness in your life?

It’s beautiful here in Kansas City and I’m so happy that the sun is finally out!!!

Hope you had a great weekend filled with rest, relaxation, and fun. If not, be sure to do one (if not more) kind thing for yourself today.

I was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal on a topic that I was hesitant to talk about. But, as you know by now, I cherish personal freedom more than anything in this world, so I said YES because my hope was that if one person could be positively impacted by me sharing my truth, then my purpose in life would have been fulfilled. And with any mainstream media publication, there are a ton of people commenting. I got thrown off when I read all those comments. Essentially, I fell off my positivity wagon.

With a little help from my toolbox of positive thinking, my family, and friends, I was able to get back on track.

Many of my clients are super motivated and passionate about living their best life. They are committed, driven and focused. And sometimes, they fall off track. I have to remind them that it’s normal.

This week’s Keepin’ It Real addresses this very topic.

Click play to watch today’s video where I share what you absolutely should NOT do if this happens.

As always, I want to hear from you. Have you ever been on a positive path and then gotten thrown off? How did you bounce back? I’d love to hear your story.

Have a beautiful week ahead and I’ll see you down below in the comments

So have you noticed the change in format with my weekly Keepin’ It Real vids? I’ve been switching it up a bit between me barefoot on my green couch and interviewing awesome people in my circle.

Are you loving the interviews?

I sure hope so!

Anyways, have you ever wondered how to take all the great information that you receive from books, CD’s videos, seminars and actually put it into practice?

I struggled with implementing much of what I had already learned for a very long time. I had all the knowledge in my head, but I didn’t know how to have it come to life on a day-to-day basis.

And then I found what was missing.

Today, I’m interviewing the beautiful Nisha Moodley, Founder of Fierce Fabulous Free . So not only do I love what Nisha stands for – freedom – which I’m all over like a moth to flame….wait for it..it gets better..

Nisha and I are both from the same part of India (Chennai, formerly known as Madras) and our native language is Tamil. I mean I couldn’t believe it. Soul Sisters for life.

If you think I keep it real, wait till you hear from Nisha. This girl can break it down about what’s holding you back and getting you to move to becoming your fiercest, most fabulous, and FREE self.

If you have some tips and tricks on how you have implemented what you have learned throughout your life, I’d love to hear more in the comments below

As always, thank you for being a part of my life. It truly is my purpose and honor to share my message with you so that YOU can live an extraordinary life.

Love,
vasavi

P.S. By the way, we had some tech breakdowns (like three) throughout the interview, but I gotta say, it was probably the best part of the interview. Stuff happens. Gotta keep your head up and move forward!!!

My husband Ashish and I just got back from Chicago where we spent 4 days at an amazing and life-changing event called Lifebook. We basically sat with a group of other like-minded individuals and envisioned, mapped out, and breathed life into how we wanted the 12 areas of our life to look and feel. Truly one of the best weekends ever.

And now on to today’s Keepin’ It Real.

For the longest time, I used to worry about what other people thought of me. A lot.

Do I still care? Absolutely. By nature, I am extremely concerned with making sure everyone around me is taken care of. However, the opinions of other people (and trust me there are a ton of opinions out there) do not determine my self-worth.

Let me break this down for you.

Caring is not the problem. Worrying about it is.

Caring about what others’ think simply means that you respect their opinion and will keep it in mind, but it does not mean that you will allow it to determine your worth.

Worrying about other people’s opinions imply that your self-worth and value is contingent on someone else’s approval.

If you fall into the worrying bucket, you are not alone. In my line of work I find almost all people now and then do worry about living up to other people’s expectation. Totally normal. It is human nature to want to be loved and accepted.

For as long as I can remember, my father used to say to me, “What other people think about you is merely a thought in their head.”

See when you look at it that way, there is really is nothing you can DO about what other people think of you. People will in fact have their opinions and judgments about who you are, what you should do, what you should not do, how you should dress…you get the idea.

This week’s episode of Keepin’ It Real will be answering this very topic on how to stop worrying about other people’s opinions of you. It’s going to be a good one.

Once you watch the video, I want to hear from you:

Whose opinion of you do you need to stop worrying about? AND, what’s one action you will take for you to start accepting more of who you are?

Can’t wait to see what you have to say!

Love,

Do you ever wonder how some couples just seem to have it all together? Like their life is simply “perfect?”

With the age of Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, It’s really easy to get caught up in the “their life is so AH-mazing..and my life sucks.” mentality.

I have a secret to share with you. Most of the time what you see “out there” is rarely ever a true representation of what actually is. You see, it’s easy to get caught in the “perfection” of other people’s lives and miss out on the beauty of our own life.

The problem with this is that when we are not happy in our lives, we bring that energy into our personal relationships. To be real honest with you, there was a point in my life where I struggled with being a perfectionist and control freak (who would have thought? )

This had a major effect on my relationship with my husband Ashish because I expected him to be perfect. And as you know, there is no such thing as being “perfect.”

You’re in for a special treat today because I am interviewing Arielle Ford, a leading pioneer and personality in the personal growth and contemporary spirituality movement.

She’s going to be talking to us today about Wabi Sabi Love, The Ancient Art of Finding Perfect Love in Imperfect Relationships.

You can use this ancient art with your partner, family members and friends..just about everyone in your life.

I have a feeling that you are gonna love this interview so I’m super excited to hear your comments.

What I’d be curious to know is –

What’s one imperfection in your relationship that doesn’t seem to be quite that big of a deal anymore?

Be sure to leave a comment below.

I can’t wait to read what you have to say

I just got back from Ottawa, Canada where I had the opportunity to speak and host a motivational event in honor of the one, the only…OPRAH WINFREY!!!! It was a life changing experience and I am honored to have had the opportunity.

People often ask me how I am able to balance my relationship with my husband given all the traveling that I do. It’s not easy. There are times that I feel guilty and worry that Ashish and I will grow apart because I’m always traveling! There is no way I can sit here and say that all the money and success means anything to me if my home-life is hanging by a thread.

Now more than ever, we are committed to strengthening our marriage because we both believe that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of our relationship. This includes going to marriage therapy and reading books on marriage. But even more than that, it’s about being intentional each and everyday about the words that we speak to one another and setting time to BE with each other.

This past weekend I had the honor of speaking at the Honey Dews Baby Expo right here in Overland Park, Kansas. The room was filled with expectant mothers who were simply glowing.

As you may or may not know, I don’t have kids. And when I got up on the stage, I had to keep it real with the audience and share that I have no clue what it’s like to be a mother (unless you count my being a mother to our Golden Retreiver, Laney). But I do know one thing. That every human being wants to be happy and to feel free.

In a society that moves so fast, it’s so important that we stop and smell the roses. Literally.

When’s the last time you did something for yourself simply for the sake of it? When’s the last time you allowed yourself to bask in the pleasure of truly being alive?

When I think about pleasure I think about dark chocolate, fresh air, a walk in the park with Laney, and being with my husband, Ashish.

Speaking of pleasure, today’s Keepin’ It Real has a new twist. I love sitting on my signature green couch and talking to you every week. But I also want to introduce you to some of the amazing people on this planet that are committed to helping others achieve and unlock their greatest potential.

Click play to watch the interview I did this week with the fabulous, Jena La Flamme, founder of Pleasurable Weight Loss.

Once you watch the video, I would love to hear:

What’s one simple pleasure that you will allow yourself to experience this week?

I can’t wait to hear!

Since the time I was kid, my parents drilled into my head to never chase after money. My father always said, “Be of service and money will follow.”

What I am learning more and more about myself is that the less I worry about money, the more it flows into my life. The less I worry, the more mental space I have to create programs and services that will help people move forward in their lives.

It wasn’t always that easy. I would often find myself scratching my head wondering, where is the money going to come from? It was quite the paradox. On the outward, I seemed to have it all together, but my bank account was a hot mess. HOT MESS. My self-worth was wrapped around how much money I made (or didn’t make). I mean, come one now. My mother is a doctor (how Indian of her) and my father is a CPA. Both in private practice. Both have worked their little brown butts off. The bar was set from a pretty young age.

Needless to say, I lived a very abundant life. I got to travel all over the world from a very young age, meet people that I would not have typically had the chance to meet. But most importantly, like the thing I am most grateful for- is the opportunity to invest in myself through formal education, certifications, books, seminars, retreats, and mentors.

I no longer view money as something that defines me. Rather, it is merely an expression of my work, creativity, and commitment to service. It’s taken consistent practice and discipline to get to this place.

Click play to learn the NUMBER ONE thing to focus on to detach from money.

Once you watch the video, I would love to hear:

Are you funny about money? What were the messages you received as a kid? Was there not enough of it? Too much of it? Or, my favorite- was it wrong to want it if you were a spiritual or religious person?

Have a beautiful week and I’ll “see” you in the comments below!

Love,
Vasavi

By now you have probably heard and read about my personal story of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In case you haven’t, here is a quick recap:

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in December 2002. For almost years I was on heavy medication to “stabilize” my moods. In these past ten years I have successfully managed to get two Masters, an Ivy League education, become a certified coach, a best selling author, a radio show host interviewing NY Times best-selling authors, a bi-weekly spot on our local morning show, Kansas City Live, and create programs for people who want to shift their mindset so that they can experience freedom. Oh, and I got married and moved from NY to Kansas. And got a dog.

Last year I chose to get off medication once and for all. See, I believe no amount of medication can substitute our internal power. Thus, I got off.

And recently I heard from my husband these words, “Babe, every day you become more and more of the person who you are meant to become.”

My heart swoons.

Now let me ask you. Have you ever been in a funk? Hear me out. This isn’t about having bipolar, depression, or anxiety. This is about being human.

So, how do you stay positive when shit hits the fan?

Click play to learn how to create small shifts in your daily thoughts and activities so that you can experience long-lasting positive change.

What small shifts will you make to experience positive thinking in your life?

For the longest time, I believed that I was the black sheep of my family. I would make my mother and sister wrong for never “getting me.” It was a perpetual narrative that I played in my mind…over and over again. It kept me from having a deeper connection with my sister and mother. You want to know what the worst part was?

I really believed that I was right.

Have you ever told yourself a story so many times that you start to believe it’s the “truth?”

How’d that work out for ya?

Well, if you had a similar experience to mine..then it SUCKED.

Because:

I alienated myself
I made my family wrong
I never believed I was “enough”
I rejected their love
I was cold and abrupt

The day that I realized that my story was a big fat lie, was the day I was set free.

Next time you are with your family, how will you now choose to respond?

What do you learn about yourself and why you get triggered??
