–Very organized with a great eye for detail
–Able to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
–Motivated, team player with a strong work ethic, who does not need their hand held (and a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt either)
**Though not required, photography and video editing skills are a plus, as students with these skills will be able to help more in depth with our photo shoots and behind the scenes videos.

Responsibilities include…
–Assisting the Art Department in the concepting, layout and creation of pages for Orlando Magazine
–Editing photos and preparing files for print
–Working with the Sales Department in the creation of ads, sales flyers, and promotional materials
–Assisting the Photographer and Art Department on various photo shoots
–Uploading content to the website via our content management system (very light coding involved)
–Participating in weekly meetings

Not sure what Tactile Graphics are?  Tactile graphics are a means of conveying non-textual information to people who are blind or visually impaired, and may include tactile representations of pictures, maps, graphs, diagrams, and other images.  A person with a visual impairment can feel these raised lines and surfaces in order to obtain the same information that people who are sighted get through looking at pictures or other visual images.

The Office of Students with Disabilities has no funds to pay someone so they would prefer to either hire Federal Work Study students or take a student who is okay with an unpaid internship.

We’ve narrowed the finalists from the submissions created. Now it’s YOUR turn to help us decide which poster will be printed and used around campus to help Valencia encourage everyone on campus to get to the polls and vote. Here’s how voting will work:

1. Visit our facebook page and “Like” the post you feel would be most appropriate. Of course you’re allowed to vote for more than one poster. Here’s a link to the posters of the finalists.
2. The poster with the most likes at midnight on August 1st, 2012 will be chosen to be screen printed and posted on campus this fall.

We encourage you to share the poster competition with others…encourage your friends, family, classmates, teachers, colleagues and fellow designers to vote! While you’re at it…encourage they “like” our Valencia graphics fb page too! We have a lot of awesome creative inspiration and promising things to share in the near future. :o)

We also appreciate and value critique – if you have suggestions or ideas we encourage you to leave constructive critique for our students as a comment with their poster in facebook. Job Description: This job entails everything from working closely with clients, designing concepts, hand-finishing production work, creating comps and developing brands and campaigns. Sometimes the work is not glamorous, but the exciting projects usually make up for these days :)

Who should attend?

Anyone planning to register for a FALL ‘12 Internship who has met the prerequisite requirements.

How do I apply for an internship?

1. If you have already taken (or are currently taking) the prerequisite graphics courses (GRA21826 OR GRA2143) you need to fill out the Internship Application form on-line through Atlas. The Fall internship application process will only be available in Atlas (under the My Courses tab) from June 8th until August 3rd. Instructions for how/where to fill out the application are here: http://valenciacollege.edu/internship/students/InternshipApplicationProcedures.cfm
   YOU WILL NEED TO PRINT THE ACADEMIC PROFILE PAGE OF YOUR APPLICATION AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE GRAPHICS ORIENTATION – DO NOT TAKE IT TO THE INTERNSHIP OFFICE.
2. Print your resume and bring it with you. Although you will be uploading your resume to your application, it’s good to bring a printed copy of your resume in case you’re needing feedback during the orientation.
3. Attend one of the Mandatory Graphics Orientation meetings (dates above) and bring with you the following:
   a. Copy of your unofficial transcript indicating that you have taken or are currently enrolled in the prerequisite course(s), and
   b. Copy of your well-designed and edited personal resumé, and
   c. Printout of your ACADEMIC PROFILE PAGE from your application from step 1 above.
   Attending this meeting without bringing the paperwork listed above will delay us registering you for internship.
4. Once you have been approved for an internship at the mandatory orientation, the internship office will be notified and provided with your application for processing (note this may take a couple of weeks). The internship office will then register you for the course and/or provide you with the override so you can register via atlas. There is no way to register for internship without this override and the internship office cannot give you an override if you haven’t attended the orientation and haven’t applied by the deadline above.

Brief:
The objective of this project is two fold: First, for graphic students, the objective is to build awareness of how design can be a powerful tool to promote a cause, while learning the skills of graphic design. Second, for the Valencia community, the objective is to promote individuals to get to the polls and make their voices heard in the upcoming elections.

We are asking that Graphics instructors include this service-oriented poster design project into their Summer term course(s) to get people out to vote this November. The wining poster design will be posted on all campuses, and handed out as handbills/post cards in a college-wide campaign to encourage participation in the electoral process.

Although we encourage posters, please feel free to design any project you see fitting for your course content (e.g. websites, bus wraps, etc.) around the following specifications and deadlines in mind:

print work:

• 17” x 24” format (scaled down to print tabloid size when submitted for judging)
• 2 spot color job suitable for screen printing
• Artwork should be submitted as vector or a high enough resolution that it could be scaled up
• Posters should include the following language in some form:

Deadline for submission of posters for judging is June 7th, 1-213 on East Campus, before 9PM.  (Delivery of submissions from West and Osceola, will be arranged. The deadline for working needing to be transferred will be June 5th, 2PM, (Osc: 1-246 or West: 5-130) to allow time for submissions to be moved to East Campus).

Judging of the Work:
Submissions will be judged by adjunct and full-time graphics faculty on June 9th.

The winning design will have their poster printed and distributed throughout Valencia’s various campuses at the start of Fall term 2012. In addition to posters, we will also print post cards or hand bills for distribution on campus “Get Out The Vote” events.
