It’s interesting to look back at our previous WordPress themes round-ups. It’s almost like looking at a visual timeline not only of WordPress’ advances in theme design, but of the rapid development in functionality of the CMS itself. The themes from year to year clearly differ in style as Web design trends have evolved. As each year passes and more functionality is added to WordPress’ core, these improvements are strongly reflected in the themes developed for it.

Once upon a time, all WordPress themes looked like traditional blogs, with basic functionality and not a heck of a lot more. But as you will see from the themes below, that original ‘blog’ design style is clearly gone, perhaps never to be seen again. It makes you feel nostalgic.

Nowadays, user requirements for WordPress themes are very high. Users expect all themes (including free ones) to have pages for admin options built in, where you can quickly set up your website and personalize it with a minimum of fuss. With the rise of these options pages, niche-specific theme designs (such as for portfolios, blogs or magazines) are no longer required and are, in fact, few and far between.

Most of the themes below can be tailored via the options panel to be anything you want, whether a portfolio, a content-heavy magazine-style website or a basic blog. Setting one up takes only 10 minutes. This actually gave us a few problems when it came to categorizing the themes below. We spend a lot of time researching, collaborating on and writing these round-ups. In fact, it is a Smashing Magazine tradition to publish the top 100 WordPress themes from the previous 12 months (this is our fifth edition).

Portfolios, Galleries And Showcases

Portfolium (Demo)
Portfolium is a clean and flexible WordPress grid-based portfolio theme, designed in a modern and minimalist style. It is ideal for designers, artists, photographers and other creative specialists who require a professional portfolio theme.

Shaken Grid (Demo)
Shaken Grid uses the jQuery Masonry plug-in, which ‘arranges elements vertically then horizontally according to a grid.’ The theme is perfect if you need a gallery or portfolio or just want a unique grid layout.

Big Square (Demo)
Big Square is a stylish photoblog theme with a built-in gallery that is focused entirely on highlighting your creative visuals.

Journal Crunch (Demo)
Journal Crunch is a gallery and portfolio theme with all of the features you would expect from a premium theme: easy set-up via the options page, plenty of shortcodes, built-in pagination, Twitter widgets, AJAX contact form and much more.

Paragrams (Demo)
Paragams is a lightweight theme that is built on a grid and that could be used for various types of websites: portfolios, photoblogs even online magazines.

Imbalance 2 (Demo)
Imbalance 2 turns you WordPress-based website to an attractive blog, portfolio or online magazine. This free template has a strictly modern style with a minimalist touch.

Photoria (Demo)
Photoria is a clean feature-rich theme that would be perfect as a photoblog or portfolio. It comes packaged with a variety of templates and built-in SEO (via its extensive options page), and the theme is internationalized for easy translation.

Muse (Demo)
Muse is a simple gallery theme that can be used as either a portfolio or an inspirational showcase. It comes with custom page templates and built-in SEO, and it can be combined with a ratings plug-in to create an all-singing, all-dancing showcase website.

mimiThem (Demo)
This is far and away the most basic theme in this article. But don’t be fooled: it works effectively as a quick and easy way to get your portfolio online.

Dione (Demo)
Dione is a video showcase theme that uses the custom post type feature available in WordPress 3+.

Academica (Demo)
Academica was designed specifically for educational institutions such as universities and schools. It’s a flexible and versatile free theme that can be easily customized and branded for any university, academy or non-profit organization.

Rotary (Demo)
Rotary is a two-column business theme that was built with all of the fantastic features of WordPress 3.0. It is centered on the idea of running your blog as a CMS.

Vanadiumitic (the link was removed due to the suspicious code of the theme)

Ikonik was designed as an online design store, although no e-commerce system is integrated. It could be used as a simple portal for selling vectors, icons, logos, buttons, themes and pretty much anything else.

Expositio (Demo)
Expositio is a simple portfolio theme for photographers, designers and artists. Its integrated options help you customize the template from font to color.

Sutra (Demo)
Sutra is a minimal theme focused on simplicity, putting the writing front and center.

Extricate (Demo)
Extricate is a clean, minimal theme built on HTML5 and CSS3. The options page allows you to resize columns and specify post information.

Renova (Demo)
Renova comes with two backgrounds (full white or paper), six link colors, jQuery support for hover effects and mobile device support. The minimal style is for writers who need a simple layout without any distraction.

Feijoa (Demo)
This is a four-column layout with a simple sidebar and was designed using the jQuery Masonry plug-in.

This minimalist theme features big images, a clean style and easy browsing: perfect for modern blogs and portfolios.

Wordfinder (Demo)
Wordfinder is a simple magazine-style theme for users who want to start a blog with a minimal layout. The theme has many layout features, including two home page styles and six colors for links and hover effects that are easily customizable via the options page.

This jQuery-based, Cufon-enabled, lightweight and minimal WordPress theme was developed by Timothy Long.

Blogum (Demo)

Mini Hyper (Demo)
Mini Hyper comes with a basic options page where you can add your analytics tracking code and change the logo. Other than that, Mini Hyper is widget-ready and works in all browsers.

‘No bells and whistles, just simple and to the point.’ Min’s main content area is set at 560 pixels, and it has two widget-ized footer areas to handle navigation and anything else you feel like putting there.

Papaver is an elegant, minimal theme. You can set the content to one, two or three columns.

Codium Extend (Demo)
Codium Extend is a minimalist theme that supports all of WordPress 3+’s features and comes with support for smartphones (iPhone, etc.) and tablets (iPad, Galaxy Tab, etc.).

Delicate (Demo)
Delicate is a clean, minimalist theme with a focus on typography and structure.

Melville (Demo)
Melville was inspired by classic literature. It has no distractions; just a simple design that focuses the reader on your writing.

Yoko is a modern and flexible theme, with a responsive layout based on CSS3 media queries. The design is optimized for big desktop screens, tablets and smartphones. David Airey Theme
David Airey has released his old blog’s design as a free WordPress theme. As you probably know, that minimal design offers the perfect platform for your writing.

The Columnist (Demo)
The Columnist was inspired by the grid structure and typographic techniques of traditional newspapers. It was designed with a grid-based layout, an elegant typographic hierarchy and some CSS3 and jQuery greatness.

Swiss Dessign (Demo)
The four themes below, originally featured on Smashing Magazine in January, are simple yet powerful, with a touch of traditional Swiss design and layout. Their distinct style is what separates them from the other themes. They allow you to select the focus of your work, since you are the artist and should be in control of the visitor’s experience. Each theme comes with a full video overview and support for using and managing it.

Simplest Free WP Theme
This is perhaps the most basic WordPress theme you’ve ever seen. It’s so basic that it’s not even worth showing a screenshot of it. But it is useful. It’s a fully functional theme that would be perfect for anyone looking for a barebones WordPress framework. It has only 83 lines of PHP and 75 lines of CSS.

Blogs And Personal Websites

Spectacular (Demo)
This theme was commissioned by Smashing Magazine and designed by Maleika Esther Attawel. It offers a warm and comfortable environment for personal musings. It comes in two flavors: HTML 4.01 and HTML5. Both German and English versions are included in the download package.

Protean (Demo)
Protean is a WordPress theme from Landau Reece that allows bloggers to customise their website design for individual blog posts.

Skeptical (Demo)
Skeptical’s layout is flexible: you can display ‘Related posts’ next to your latest posts on the home page or have a completely widget-based sidebar. You can also add your Flickr stream to the footer and showcase three noteworthy blog posts with a tag that you declare in the settings.

Graphite (Demo)
Graphite, built by Medialoot from the ground up using HTML5 and CSS3, comes with portfolio post types, two alternative home page image sliders and built-in admin settings.

Harimau Malaya (Demo)
Harimau Malaya was purpose-built as a throwback to when blogs looked like blogs. It is a simple but complete theme, suitable for every blogger out there.

Pongsari (Demo)
Pongsari, a simple and clean theme, was built using the WordPress 3+ default theme TwentyTen as a framework. It comes with support for WordPress 3+ thumbnails and custom menu functions.

Typominima (Demo)
Typominima is a free, minimal typography-based theme that was designed to enable writers and publishers to express themselves online in a clean and beautiful environment.

Edgy Ellen (Demo)
This theme from WP Classic has a stylish design, clean grid patterns and custom typography. It comes with an options panel that will help you set up your website in no time.

Copperific (Demo)
Copperific has a stylish slider to showcase highlights of your portfolio. It also has a built-in Twitter and Facebook button for easy sharing of posts. For monetization, it has four 125×125 banner ads that are integrated in the system’s back end. It has a custom dropdown menu, an automatic thumbnail resizer, a widget for popular posts and a lot more.

Grey (Demo)
Grey is generic enough to be used for almost any kind of blog. Whether it’s a blog about design, photography, fashion or some other passion, the Grey theme should suit your needs. It is built on a simple layout, but with a lot of little touches of subtle details and textures.

Neonsential (Demo)
Neonsential brings a grungy yet elegant look to your blog. The fancy home page slider highlights your featured posts. It is WordPress 3.0-compliant and backed by a robust framework for quickly setting up your website.

Anniversary (Demo)
As the name suggests, Anniversary was built as a celebration of and thank-you to WordPress. It’s a classic-looking theme, with several layout options and a customizable ‘Thank you, WordPress’ banner in the header.

Velvet Sky (Demo)
Velvet Sky is a Prestashop and WordPress shopping theme that was recently released on Smashing Magazine. It features a custom homepage with combo slider, horizontal and submenu menu integration, custom slideshow, it supports one page checkout and guest checkout and is IE7+, Safari, Opera, Firefox, Chrome compatible.

Mobile-Optimized Themes

iPhonsta (Demo)
Offering a mobile version of your website is an easy way to strengthen your visitors’ loyalty. iPhonsta has a fluid layout, it fits most mobile screens (despite its name, it will work on most smartphones), and it configures the font size automatically.

jQuery Mobile
This theme is optimized for mobile devices, such as iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. It is a great starting point for building a mobile website.

Magazine-Layout Themes

Agency (Demo)
Agency is a magazine-style theme that puts your content in a beautiful wrapper, complete with subtle, elegant page elements. It features a custom slideshow, a built-in contact form, custom gallery styles with lightbox functionality, and two widget-ized sidebars.

Nublu (Demo)
This sleek blue theme comes with a configurable slider, drop-down menus and Cufon-enabled headlines. It also comes with automatic thumbnail generation and the WordPress 3+ menu system, and it sports a Twitter bird that sings your latest tweets.

Splendio (Demo)
Splendio has a unique magazine-style design, based on the TwentyTen theme.

Platform
This is the free version of Platform, a drag-and-drop design framework for WordPress. With this framework, you can design and build your website faster than ever before, entirely in WordPress’ back end.

Roots
Roots is a starter WordPress theme made for developers and based on HTML5 Boilerplate, Blueprint (or 960.gs) and Starkers. It helps you rapidly create brochure websites and blogs.

HTML5 WordPress Shell
With this framework, you get custom templates (including 404 and 503 error pages), the mother of all WordPress body tags, support for WordPress’ new menu system, Modernizr (i.e. HTML5 feature detection) and an HTML5 reset style sheet, @font-face examples, support for iPhone detection, and IE conditional style sheets.

Boilerplate: Starkers
This Boilerplate framework was developed by combining HTML5 Boilerplate and the bare-bones Starkers into a minimally marked-up, HTML5-ready framework. The Boilerplate theme is designed to function as a parent theme to whatever child you would like to add. But you could just as easily use this as a starting point and alter the PHP as your design requires.

TwentyTen Five
TwentyTen Five was originally launched in the Smashing Magazine article ‘Using HTML5 to Transform WordPress’ TwentyTen Theme.’ It is basically an HTML5 upgrade of the default TwentyTen theme, and yet it is much more than that. With its support for brand new HTML5 elements and its compatibility with all modern browsers (although to use HTML5 with IE versions 6 to 8, you need a pinch of JavaScript, which is included), this theme is perfect as a development framework.

Theme Starter (Demo)
This is a starter theme for those who are looking for a starting point in WordPress without having to dissect anything more complex. The theme is WordPress 3+ compatible and uses the new menu navigation and thumbnail functionality.

Constellation (Demo)
This great starting point gives you the flexibility to provide bespoke styles for different devices, totally up-to-date HTML5 code (which is fantastic for SEO) and a flexible grid system, on top of all of the other goodness bundled in the HTML5 Boilerplate.

Bones
This feature-rich bare-bones theme was built using some of HTML5 Boilerplate’s recommended mark-up. It also has a ton of features, such as page navigation, breadcrumbs, a widget for related posts, HTML5 video with fallback and a heck of a lot more. Bones was designed to make the developer’s life easier; it’s meant to be hacked until it fits what you’re looking for.

Skimpy
Skimpy has basic WordPress 3.0 functionality, including custom menus, thumbnails and custom sidebars. A couple of other useful tweaks are commented out, but you can comment them in and do what you want with them. The only style included is a container that sets the width to 900 pixels.

First of all I noticed there is not an individual post that gives the entire root process for those that have never used ADB and probably don’t have the SDK installed. In other words people that have never rooted a phone before and didn’t think they ever would because they think it looks SUPER complicated.

There are several tutorial threads on this subject but I can guarantee that these are the most simple and detailed, START to FINISH, instructions regarding the root process of a HTC EVO Shift that you will find on the web. My information is compiled together from numerous sources and my own personal experience to give less confident people what they need in order to root their phone and remain at ease.

RED-REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED TO READ

BLUE-Notes from my experience and further explanations

NOTE: I’m not responsible if you mess up your phone, however this process worked perfectly for me and it is pretty hard these days to brick your phone unless your trying.

Rooting Process

1. First, on your computer download the program "SDK" from Here. Download the file called "installer_r10-windows.exe". Install it. When prompted for the install path paste "C:AndroidSDK" over the default path. Once finished, open it from the Start Menu. It should be right on your "C:" drive. Now, select "Install Packages" and make sure you install "Android SKD Platform-Tools". Once finished, close out of Android SKD and AVD Manager.

2. ONLY FOLLOW THIS STEP IF PROBLEMS INVOLVING LOADING SDK OCCURS. Next, Go to the start menu and right click on "My Computer". Select "Properties", then select "Advanced"/"Advanced System Settings", then "Environment Variables", now go to the lower box (system variables) and select "path" then "Edit". Paste the following as your path "C:AndroidSDKplatform-tools", then select OK. This seems to have fixed most peoples problems.

3. Now, on your phone, press "Menu", then "Settings", then "Applications", then "Development". Check the box that says "USB Debugging" and press "OK" when the confirmation box appears.

4. Now, install HTC SYNC. There should be a folder on your SD card that came with the phone that has a HTC SYNC Setup in it. Just drag this to your desktop and run it. Otherwise download HTCSync. After installation, plug your phone into the computer and select "Disk drive" on your phones prompted menu.

5. Next, download the VISIONary app from Here and save it on your desktop. Once downloaded, Copy "com.modaco.visionaryplus.r14.apk" and Paste it to the SD Card root. Or in other words, drop the file in the first folder of the SD card on your phone.

6. Next, switch your phone’s connection status back to "Charge Only". Use any file manager (free from the android marketplace "ES File Explorer") to install the VISIONary app on your phone. On your phone just find the visionary installer in the file manager and click to install. (Icon should look like a caution sign). Once complete, open VISIONary on your phone and click "Temproot Now". Wait for the rooting process to take place. Shouldn’t take long at all. At this point your phone is rooted. However, you may noticed that your phone is running slower than normal. Go back into VISIONary and put a check next to the box that says "temp root on boot". Now power off your phone and then turn back on. This will root your phone before background apps are running, thus making it much faster.

7. Next, Download the root file Here. Once installed, connect your phone to your computer as a disk drive and right click on the "shift-root.zip", select extract here, then use browse to locate your phone, more specifically the root of your SD card. If you are having trouble extracting, download 7-Zip. Now change your connection type back to "Charge only" again.

8. Next, Open the command prompt (Start > Run > type "cmd") and paste the following…

cd C:AndroidSDKplatform-tools

Hit enter, and type the following…

adb

If adb runs you’re golden. Type this…

adb shell

Hit enter, you will see this…

$

Now type…

su

Hit enter… Now switch back to your phone. Superuser (an automatically installed program) will prompt you to "Allow" on your phone. Click it quickly to allow permissions! Now you will see this in the command prompt…

You have root permissions. If you didn’t click allow fast enough just retype "su" and click enter again.

9. Next you have to Verify md5sum. Basically just make sure you copy and paste this EXACTLY…

md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin

Then hit enter.Your result should look like this…

386c19451e8dd18f9b98fad6b11be4c0  hboot_orig.bin

Make sure the numbers match. You may have some extra path in front of hboot_orig.bin.



If a message saying that the md5sum is not found, paste this code before verifying the md5sum. If it worked in the first place then ignore all this red…

busybox md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_eng.nb0

It should work now…

Next copy and paste this exactly…

md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_eng.nb0

Then hit enter.Your result should look like this…

60ec1006e6ec2e8acb370d6aad35b17e  hboot_eng.nb0

Make sure the numbers match. You may have some extra path in front of hboot_eng.nbo. If these do not match do not proceed. Delete the "shift-root.zip" file on your sd card and redownload.

10. Now we’re going to flash the "eng spl." This is where the unpleasant things can happen. Make sure you are in "adb shell" with superuser root permission (Granted a "#" symbol). This was explained in Step 8. If you are not in "adb shell" with root permissions (Granted a "#" symbol) then DO NOT proceed.

Now DO NOT REBOOT until you are instructed to do so!!! In the command prompt, paste this EXACTLY…

dd if=/sdcard/Shift/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

Hit enter. You have flashed the "eng spl." Now we need to make sure it flashed properly.

11. Run this command to pull the newly flashed "hboot" to your sdcard. Copy and paste this EXACTLY…

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/Shift/hboot_check.nb0

Hit enter. Next you need to check the "md5" to see if it matches. In the command prompt, Copy and paste this EXACTLY…

md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_check.nb0

Hit enter. It should read…

60ec1006e6ec2e8acb370d6aad35b17e

if the "md5sum" matches then congratulations its safe to reboot!! you can skip the next bit and continue on to step 12.

If you absolutely cannot get the eng hboot to flash right then copy and paste this into the command prompt…

dd if=/sdcard/Shift/hboot_orig.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

Hit enter. Then pull it to check "md5". Copy and paste this exactly…

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/Shift/hboot_check1.bin

Hit enter. Then check the "md5sum" by copying and Pasting this exactly…

md5sum /sdcard/Shift/hboot_check1.bin

Hit enter. It should read…

386c19451e8dd18f9b98fad6b11be4c0

If it doesn’t, keep trying the previous 2 codes until it does but DO NOT!! reboot till it matches.

12. Now we can Perm root!!! First you need to reboot your phone into "bootloader". Do this by turning off phone and hold (power + volume down) till it boots into bootloader. Look at the top and make sure it says "s" off. If so, reboot the phone back into android by turning off and then back on.

13. Next Put the phone into airplane mode (hold down power and then click "airplane mode"). Go to setting, applications, manage applications and uninstall superuser.

14. Next, temp root with visionary. After you are temp rooted then attempt to perm root with visionary. Your phone will reboot and you are now officially perm rooted any changes you make will now stick on reboot. If it didn’t stick, try doing steps 13 and 14 again.

Simplified Backup (with WiMax Backup!)

1. Find "ROM Manager" in the Market (free or paid) and install the app.

2. Open it and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".

3. Click on "HTC Evo Shift 4G" and then give the app root permission if it prompts you.

4. Once the flash is successful, you should see a dialog box that says "Successfully flashed ClockworkMod recovery!"



5. Press OK.ClockworkMod should now be installed on the HTC Evo Shift 4G.

6. Before you backup your phone, open the ROM Manager application and select "All Clockwork Recoveries".

7. Select the most recent version, currently it is v.3.0.1.4 (If you already have the most current version skip to step 6)

8. Press OK.

9. Your phone will flash the most current recovery image.

10. Now once your phone finished, open ROM Manager and select "Backup Current ROM".



11. Press OK.

12. Your phone will begin the backup process, including backup of your WiMax Partition.



13. Once finished your phone will restart. DONE! A backup is now on your memory card.

UnRooting

1. Be sure HTC Sync is installed on your computer. (Link to download near top of first post)

2. Download the sprint RUU Download.

3. Plug your phone in to your PC, select "charge only", then run the RUU File

Instead of sending e-mail to several people, users can post directly to Basecamp and let people engaged in the post, eliminating messy e-mail threads on everybody’s inbox.

When it comes to file sharing, Basecamp supports every popular file formats, ranging from word documents to images to any file type. When it comes to revisions, uploaded files with the same file name will not overwrite existing files, and the older file will be archived so that people can see what changes have been made. For uploaded images, users get to preview it first before downloading the file.

4. Central Desktop

Just like any online project management software, using Central Desktop will enable you to work anywhere as long as there’s an internet connection. It is a good thing to have a cloud-based platform to work on, eliminating clutter on your client thus keeping yourself organized.

7. Producteev

Producteev works like an online to-do list which alerts you in real-time of what’s happening via e-mail, IM, or iPhone. Team leaders can create a virtual workspace and place collaborators there, create tasks and assign them to people, add deadlines and generate productivity report.

8. Teambox

Is your inbox getting out of hand? Teambox actually solves this problem by smartly organizing projects, telling you which conversation to look at, which to prioritize, etc.

The fun part I see here is that users can post status updates, just like Facebook, except that they are telling project members about their progress. Unlike other systems, Teambox is probably one of the few softwares out there that won’t make you go searching for the help file because things are so simple and easy to understand intuitively.

9. TeamLab

TeamLab is a free management platform for small to medium-sized companies. Using TeamLab is like having a social network within your company. You can create blog posts that the entire company can see, and the platform also got other social friendly features like company-wide announcements so that no one will be left behind, polls to gather public opinion, and many others. Members can even start their own discussions on the forums, making the whole company engaged in every activity they like.

Another notable feature is its in-house chat messenger that connects every member, eliminating the use of other IMs for work’s communication.

Time Doctor had me at dramatically reducing wasted time as in the world we are living now, time can make or break an entire company.

If you want to put a Google Map on your web page fast and easy, then plugins are what you need. you just have to secure a valid Google Maps API key from http://www.google.com/apis/maps/ and look at the source code of its page if you want to know how to use the plugin. Markers can be provided by a jQuery object (containing elements in the geo microformat) or an array of objects that provide lat, lng and txt for the popup (txt being optional).

2. jQuery GPS

jQuery GPS is a jQuery plugin for people that want to add Google maps to their website, but don’t want their website to be bogged down with features they don’t need. Jquery GPS is a lightweight and simple solution to all your Google Map needs. Add inputs for addresses by simply adding default or custom ID’s. You can use any element to trigger the event! So it doesn’t need to be embedded inside a form. The default ID’s make it easy to create an application that will give directions and a highlighted map right on your website! jQuery GPS also has the ability for you to select the place the map shows when it first loads, and to open a toolip and load a graphic image on that starting location.

3. gMap jQuery Google Maps by Cedric Kastner

gMap is a lightweight jQuery plugin that helps you embed Google Maps into your website. With only 2 KB in size it is very flexible and highly customizable. It has tiny line of code is being used to embed the map on your web page. There are a two requirements you need to meet before you can use gMap to display Google Maps on your website. First you need to sign up for a Google Maps API key. Second you need the jQuery library at least in version 1.3.

4. jMapping by Brian Landau

This jQuery plugin for creating Google Maps from semantic markup, is designed for quick development of a page that implements a Google Map with a list of the locations that are specified within the HTML. The plugin tries to allow as much graceful degradation as possible by having the HTML be as semantic as possible. The plugin expect the HTML for the locations to be grouped under a common element. Additionally, it expects the links and Map Info Window content to be grouped under the location elements. It also expects the necessary metadata to be on the location element. This way the HTML semantically reflects that all of those parts and information are associated with the specific location or place.

5. Mapbox: Zoomable jQuery Map Plugin

The jQuery mapbox() plugin is for creating relatively small scale, zoomable, draggable maps with multiple layers of content. This framework could be applied to games, development plans, or any layout that could benefit from being able to zoom in and pan to get a better view. By default, the map will now zoom to the cursor position when the mousewheel is used. This is an intuitive means by which a user may explore different areas of the map.

6. gmap3

One of the finest Google Maps jQuery Plugin around is gMap3. It makes use of Google Map API version 3 to create maps with advanced features integrated on it. 2. Step jQuery Carousel Viewer

Step jQuery Carousel Viewer displays images or even rich HTML by side scrolling them left or right. Users can step to any specific panel on demand, or browse the gallery sequentially by stepping through x number of panels each time. A smooth sliding animation is used to transition between steps. And fear not in taming this script to go exactly where you want it to- two public methods, two custom event handlers, and three ‘status’ variables are here for that purpose.

There are some benefits to doing this kind of thing in JavaScript rather than Flash, not least of which is the ease of integration, small file size, SEO, and inherent degradability/accessibility. Not having another dev-tool in the workflow is another plus.

The carousel features realistic perspective. Many 3d carousels only apply perspective scaling to the size of the images, not their positions. This results in disproportionate gaps appearing between items as they shrink in the distance which looks odd.
