The DETAILED CHART ANALYSIS is an exhaustive interpretation of the Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts. It includes the analysis of the specific queries of the client in addition to the overall interpretation of the major areas of life. Career, wealth, income, property, parents, relatives, siblings, marriage, relationships, life events, progeny, health, spirituality, deities, curses from previous incarnations that bring challenges, travel and related matters are studied. Dasha systems like the Vimshottari Dasha, Narayan Dasha and the Conditional Dashas of Parashara are applied for timing based on applicability and need. Techniques such as Argala and Rashi Drishti are employed to better glean chart tendencies. Full use is made of the various Arudha Pada to judge the externalities of life in addition to the metaphysical roots relating to the various life areas as seen from the charts. An alternative equivalent of the Analysis can also be had through a telephonic conversation extending from One hour to One and a half hours depending on need. Follow up questions in the nature of clarifications for both written and telephonic forms are entertained once.
The DETAILED CHARTS COMPATIBILITY ANALYSIS is an exhaustive interpretation of two sets of Rashi Chakras and the Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts. Married couples or romantic partners can avail of this Analysis with profit. It is an elaborate examination of the corresponding features of the two charts. The crucial parameters of Upapada Lagna matching are applied to judge the inherent and Karmic suitability of the two individuals as marital partners. Physical proximity, Manglik Dosha, Dosha Samya or the mutual cancellation of affliction are some of the features studied. The longevity of the marriage and the status of the marital partner are examined. Over and covert opposition to the alliance, if any, are also judged. Advanced and esoteric techniques as described above are used for charts delineation. Telephonic equivalent of the Analysis is also available in the alternative, as stated above for the Detailed Chart Analysis. It employs traditional Jyotish knowledge to glean the astrological factors operating for the native in a given year. Concepts like the ruler of the year, the lord of the Hindu or the Vedic day on which the year starts and the application of the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha are used to describe the manner in which events will unfold through a given year. Varga Chakras or the Divisional Charts are used to study specific areas of life for the given year. Other standard techniques such as evaluation of the Arudha Pada, the use of Rashi Drishti to study deterministic trends and Argala to time the intervention of allied factors on a given chart function are employed. Principles from the Jyotish classic the Prashna Marga and other standard interpretation techniques are used to unravel the propensities regarding the subject of the query posed to the astrologer.
DETAILED CHART ANALYSIS

Dear Consulter,
I have noted the queries posed. The queries pertain mostly to your marriage and Upaya/ remedial measures/ Ratna/ gemstones and certain more broad based ones which cover some important areas of the horoscope.
The Lagna/ Ascendant is the first house of the chart and in this case is Mithun/ Gemini with the Lagna Lord Budh posited therein. This can give a basically strong physical constitution and resistance to illness. The person also strives at least three times harder for everything because the Lagna Lord/ lord of the Ascendant Budh/ Mercury is Vakra/ retrograde. This also forms the Bhadra Yoga which makes the person family oriented and keen to help the relatives. The person also likes to communicate because the Graha/ planet Budh is the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for communications and governs these areas of life.
Surya/ Sun is placed in the Lagna with Budh the Lagna Lord and forms the Nipuna/ Budh-Aditya Yoga which can give s sharp mind. The Sun in the Lagna can bring a lot of pride and self-respect to the personality and the person is a leader and well-respected among her peers.
To record the other placements in the Rashi Chakra, Venus/ Shukra and Rahu, the North Node of the Moon are in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna while Mangal/ Mars and Moon/ Chandra are in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna. Ketu, the South Node of the Moon is in the 8th Bhava from the Lagna. Guru/ Jupiter and Shani/ Saturn are in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna.
As far as the Ratna/ Gemstones go, since the Lagna Lord Budh is placed with Surya and is aspected by Shani with Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect to the Lagna, emerald/ Panna is a good choice to safeguard health, overall life environments and success. The thinking prowess shown by the Yoga of Surya and Budh in the Lagna is further explained by the Yoga/ conjunction of the 5th Lord Venus and the 9th Lord Rahu. We must understand that the Rashi Chakra is the overall manifestation at the physical level and the 5th Bhava of the Rashi Chakra shows the creative and applied intelligence of the person.
Since the 5th Bhava from the Lagna is vacant, the lord Venus is analyzed. It is placed with the hedonistic and free-thinking Rahu showing that your thought processes will be beyond narrow boundaries and the thoughts can span cultures and other countries as well. Such people are gifted researchers and also flourish with their intellectual work in research and/ or foreign oriented professions or enterprises.
The Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for any activity rules the activity and also the mental experience that comes from the activity. Guru/ Jupiter is the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for intelligence and the Dhi Shakti. It rules the power of Vivek/ discrimination. The Graha is placed with Shani forming Brahma Yoga and you would always be keen to get to the bottom of things in the world and to get to the root of their existence and basis. The 5th Bhava is the Karaka Bhava and Ketu is placed in the 5th Bhava from Guru. This again shows unconventional and unique intellectual processes.
The major remedial measures are required for Dosha and Shrapa in the horoscopes. There is no Tithi Dosha in the horoscope and when we look to Shrapa we only find the affliction to Budh as discussed. The Shrapa is formed when a naturally benefic planet is either joined or aspected by two or more malefic planets. Budh is a natural benefic and is joined the naturally malefic Surya/ Sun and is also aspected by Shani with Graha Drishti from the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Budh is also retrograde. The curse will not be lifted easily because of the retrogression; however the act in the past life which invited the curse was not done with a bad intention as the affliction occurs in the Lagna, which is a Kendra Bhava or a pillar of life indicating the Self.
The effect of the curse is on health and rationality, communications, relatives and friends. Hurt to self-respect and pride and sorrow will come from these areas. Since the 8th Lord Shani is involved, there is Nija Dosha and the results will have to be experiences by the self. Since Surya rules the 3rd Bhava from the Lagna, short travels and desires will not fructify easily.
The main problem emerges from the father or father-figures as the 9th Lord Shani indicating the father is aspecting the Lagna with Graha Drishti and the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for the father, Surya, is also a part of the Shrapa. Therefore the Shrapa is to be remedied. Usually we approach the lord of the Bhava where the Shrapa occurs but here Budh is the lord of the Lagna involved with the Shrapa and cannot help with the alleviation of the suffering.
The next step is to look to the Karaka of the Bhava. The Karaka for the Lagna is Surya but this Graha is also involved with the curse and so we must look to the Devata associated with the Lagna. For the Lagna we must chant the Gayatri as given in the Rig Veda:

‘Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi
Dhiyoyoh Na Pracho Dayat’
Please note that the ‘Om Bhur Bhuva Swaha’ is missing and is not to be chanted, you should do One Mala of the Gayatri as given and life will be much better and more glorious with the blessings of the Sun God. One Mala contains 108 repetitions and no special Mala is required. The Mantra can be done on the fingers also.
You have to be careful about your feelings in personal life as your emotions may mislead you into making wrong choices because Shukra, the Graha ruling relationships is placed with Rahu in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna. The other area of interest is that Chandra is placed in exaltation in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna and is joined the 6th and 11th Lord Mangal. This can give a fondness for luxury and good things of life but also irritability in the mind and a quick anger.
More importantly, Mangal is the Graha farthest advanced by degrees and is thus the Atmakaraka for the horoscopes governing the soul. The Atmakaraka having become Mars one has to be peaceful and avoid anger and irritability because the birth has occurred for these lessons to be learnt.
For a young person like you, the Arudha Padas have to be evaluated because these are the external and visible features of life as they emerge; in other words, the Arudha Padas belong to the societal and financial world of Maya. Just as the Lagna shows the source pool for the life and personality of the person, the Arudha Lagna is the external and Mayik counterpart. It shows the personality in the world, the financial and social being as reflected in the events and in those around us. In your chart, the Arudha Lagna is in the 10th House. This indicates that you would have to change your social circle in life and leave many people behind. The first set of friends and acquaintances will not fit with the second image.
As we work more with the horoscope, it is more evident that a big breakthrough could come in a foreign land in the western direction. This is also because Guru and Shani are in the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna, which is the Dwara, or the doorway to the world. Shani has Digbala in the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna and shows that success can come in the western direction.
When either the Lagna Lord is in the 7th Bhava or when the 7th Lord is in the Lagna, the person is very focussed on their desires and what they want in life. Such is the case with your horoscope because the 7th Lord Budh is placed in the Lagna.
The sources of gains and income are seen from the 11th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna and three Grahas influence this Bhava: Ketu is posited here while Mangal and Chandra aspect it with Rashi Drishti. The Yoga of Chandra and Mangal is good for finances and also goes by the name of Shashi-Mangal Yoga. Though this can give some health issues including those related to blood complaints, for material life it is a good Yoga.
Since the Yoga of the Moon and Mars occurs in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna, it may well materialise in a foreign land.
The Navamsha Chakra shows our skills, inner nature, luck and the intervention of God in life. It also gives us the finer picture about our personal life. Here Mesha/ Aries Lagna rises and the Lagna Lord Mars is placed in the 5th Bhava with Shukra, the 7th Lord. This indicates an affectionate nature in personal matters. It also indicates that the person will be fortunate and want to follow the path of Dharma.
It is advised that you should exercise your mind with self-control and pray sincerely in order to safeguard yourself from adverse personal experience due to the Yoga of Shukra and Rahu in the Rashi Chakra and the Yoga of Shukra and Mangal in the 5th Bhava in the Navamsha Chakra. It is also found that Budh is in the 7th Bhava of the Navamsha Chakra and Chandra is in Mithun Amsha in the 3rd Bhava of the Navamsha Chakra in Trikona/ trines from Budh. These all point towards the need for restraint and meditation as far as relationships and personal life are concerned. Let us return to the Rashi Chakra for some time.
Just as the Arudha Lagna is in the 10th Bhava, the Upapada Lagna which is the manifest personality is in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna which is the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna. You would only truly emerge as an independent, functioning person when you get married. The Upapada Lagna is in the 4th Bhava but houses the 8th Lord Shani of transformation and the Badhak lord Guru, both indicating that a change of residence and/ or country will precede the marriage and once again your social circle will change.
This social circle will then continue and persist.
However, at the present time, Shani is transiting Kanya Rashi where the natal Upapada Lagna is placed and so this is not a good time for marriage. In such a situation Shani tends to bring separation rather than unity. However, Guru is aspecting the 2nd Bhava from the Upapada Lagna with Rashi Drishti since Guru is in Kumbha Rashi at the present time. Therefore even in pressured circumstances for this reason or that, the marriages which occur will be guaranteed to last.
This change in location is also linked to the marriage because the 7th Lord of the chart, Guru, indicating marriage and the spouse is placed in the Upapada Lagna in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna Bhava. The overall picture that emerges in personal life is that prior to marriage due to emotional errors some experiences will come as Karma but then the marriage appears to be quite auspicious.
The 10th Bhava is the Karma Bhava and is related to the profession of the native. Guru is the 10th Lord also and indicates that settling down and professional rise would be linked. Varahamihira, in his Brihat Jataka, advises us to study the 10th Bhava, and the lord from the Lagna, Sun and the Moon respectively in order to divine the influences on work.
Saturn is the 10th Lord from the Moon and is joined Guru in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Since the Chandra Graha indicates the social support in life, the 10th Lord Saturn indicates the social support coming in the profession. This is again joined the same focal area of the Guru-Shani Yoga in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Likewise, Guru is the 10th Lord from the Sun and again links back to the 4th Bhava from the Lagna for professional rise. You should look for managerial and consulting work due to the prominence of Guru and Shani in these realms.
This is also pointed out by the fact that Rahu, the Graha indicating the foreign connections etc. has become the Amatyakaraka in the horoscope and is joined Shukra, the Karaka for corporate life. Therefore you should strive to work in these areas.
We must now use the dynamic aspects of the horoscopic analysis which is done by way of the Dasha systems. The Vimshottari Dasha scheme has been stated by Parashara to be universally applicable to all Jataka.
The Vimshottari Dasha sequence for your horoscope is given below for your reference:
Vimshottari Dasha:
Maha Dashas:
Moon: 1974-02-11 - 1984-02-12
Mars: 1984-02-12 - 1991-02-11
Rah: 1991-02-11 - 2009-02-11
Sun: 2088-02-12 - 2094-02-12
We can readily see that the Guru Mahadasha is running at the present time which will be a good period emotionally, socially and otherwise as the Graha is involved with the crucial Yoga with Shani in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. All through the formative years you have been running the Rahu Mahadasha which breed anxiety, delusion and lack of peace and as stated the Rahu Graha is joined Shukra in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna leading to some adverse experiences in personal life as well. All this is a matter of the past.
This you can readily see as now you have approached a Brahmin for insights through the Jyotir Vidya which is always a significant step in life. These are the blessings of Jupiter coming. The Antardasha sequence in the Guru Mahadasha is given below:
Vimsottari Dasa:
Rah: 2022-09-22 - 2025-02-11
Now, this Guru Antardasha period is very interesting because Guru is the 7th Lord of the Rashi Chakra and the Mahadasha and Antardasha is both of the Guru Graha, furthermore, Guru is placed in the Upapada Lagna in the Rashi Chakra and it has Argala on the 7th Lord in the Navamsha Chakra. Argala means intervention and has been taught by Maharshi Parashara in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
If any good proposals come and anything is possible till May 2, 2010 you must ensure that all efforts are made for the marriage because the blessings of Guru will be there to the maximum as stated previously in the analysis.
But this Mahadasha is very auspicious for bringing the best results regarding personal and professional life for all the reasons as aforesaid. While Rahu makes one lose the path, Guru brings perspective, peace and grace to life and so you would be much happier during these 16 years that have begun pertaining to the Jupiter Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme.
The Dashamsha Chakra is judged for the finer details regarding the professional life of the native. In the D-10/ Dashamsha Chakra Dhanu/ Sagittarius Lagna rises with an exalted Ketu in the Lagna and an exalted Rahu in the 7th Bhava. A strong Venus is also placed in the 6th Bhava of service in the Dashamsha Chakra in Vrishabh/ Taurus Rashi. All through the working period which fell in the Rahu Mahadasha (refer to the tabular Mahadasha sequence above in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme) you would have been seized with the desire for independent work and wanting to start something of your own rather than to work for someone.
In fact, even apart from the Mahadasha/ Antardasha sequence in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme, there is a larger issue to be evaluated in working life. As stated the Lagna rising in the Dashamsha Chakra is Dhanu, and the lord Guru is placed in the 8th Bhava of the Dashamsha Chakra in exaltation. Inwardly, you might not want to work at all, and may have been working only because it is something to be done. The 8th Lord Moon is also there. Since Guru Mahadasha has started these issues will come to the fore and you will probably take a break from working life as indicated by the very powerful 8th Bhava in the Dashamsha Chakra indicating retirement/ long leave/ break from work/ total change of work profile etc. The 7th and 10th Lord Mercury is also placed there showing that it is only the impulse for own work and enterprise than can make you think of work again after you leave it.
Even otherwise, the superiors and bosses in service would have been very inflexible, rigid and difficult to deal with because the Yoga of Mangal and Shani is there in the 9th Bhava from the Lagna in the Dashamsha Chakra showing the boss and the superior. Mangal and Shani are arch-enemies and their conjunction brings very difficult superiors. The 9th Lord is Sun and is debilitated in the 11th House. On the one hand the superiors would have had very fragile egos but if you tolerated it, it would have given a handsome pay packet. Maharshi Jaimini is quite clear in his Sutra that both exalted and debilitated planets bring a lot of gains. The difference is when the Graha is Neecha/ debilitated especially in a Artha/ finance related Varga Chakra such as the Dashamsha Chakra it can bring lot of gains in humble or difficult work circumstances.
Now, generally when Chandra is placed in Dusthana, the Vimshottari Dasha does not give accurate results because it is based on the Moon itself. However, here we can rely on the Vimshottari Dasha because the Moon is joined the Atmakaraka Mangal in the Rashi Chakra in the 12th House. It is to be remembered that the Atmakaraka is the king of the horoscope.
When the 7th Lord is placed in the Lagna, Parashara said that the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha is applicable. This is one of the conditional Nakshatra Dashas of Parashara among the forty off Nakshatra based Dasha systems but regrettably in modern India, the Jyotishis do not use them due to ignorance.
The Mahadasha sequence in the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha scheme is given below:
Dwisaptati Sama dasha (applicable if Lagna lord is in 7th or 7th lord is in Lagna):
Maha Dashas:
Jup: 1974-11-10 - 1983-11-11
Ven: 1983-11-11 - 1992-11-10
Sat: 1992-11-10 - 2001-11-10
Rah: 2001-11-10 - 2010-11-11
Sun: 2010-11-11 - 2019-11-11
Moon: 2019-11-11 - 2028-11-10
Mars: 2028-11-10 - 2037-11-11
Merc: 2037-11-11 - 2046-11-11
The various Dasha systems have to be intelligently applied in order to properly gauge the impact of the Grahas. As stated in this work at an earlier stage, the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha applies in charts where goals and desires form the focus of the life. The Surya Mahadasha is about to commence and Surya is in Lagna. The real authority and personality development which has not come thus far due to the Graha Shrapa on the benefic Budh as well as the adverse Dasha operating will not come to the fore. This will make the intelligence flower and if the remedial measures are done, in the Dashamsha Chakra the professional gains will also come, as well as the personal life developments.
The later part is being stated because apart from the better known Graha Drishti which indicates the desire of the Grahas, there is also the Rashi Drishti/ sign aspect and the dual/ mutable signs all aspect each other. The Lagna in the Rashi Chakra is mutable and it aspects the 4th Bhava with Rashi Drishti aiding the personal development as to marriage and the relocation in this scheme as well.
Some hard work and efforts will be required due to the retrogression of the Lagna Lord Budh but if this is done then the more fortunate Yogas such as the Sunapha Yoga formed by the placement of the benefic Budh in the 2nd Bhava from the Moon will also yield the results of wealth and prosperity especially because Budh is placed in Mithun Rashi which is its own sign.
We have to read Jyotish documents very slowly because a lot of compressed knowledge is contained therein. We have to specifically look for the findings which are painstakingly derived from the analysis of the Yogas and other facets contained in the charts. The whole meaning of all the knowledge applied from the classical literature cannot become evident Arudha Lagna at once. Therefore take your time and read the work again and again till the finer points become clearer and clearer.
Further fine-tuning and closer look at specific Hindu years is done through the evaluation of the Hindu Tithi Pravesha Chakra which is the annual horoscope containing all the features of natal horoscopy and helps us to plan our year better based on the Graha influences.
When we look at the Charakaraka or the temporal indicators, we find that at birth you had more attachment towards the mother since the Lagna is in Ganesha Amsha. However with the development of thinking you became very loving towards elders and parents even though as pointed out before the suffering from the side of the father was destined. This loving and genuine relationship is because the Lagna Lord Budh is in Ashwini Kumar Amsha in the D-12 chart which relates to the parents and elders.
The mother has also reciprocated the love but some destined suffering has come from the father’s side in some form or the other because of the 9th Lord being in Ahi Amsha in the Dwadashamsha Chakra/ D-12 chart.
As for the spouse he can be found at a distance of short travel because the Upapada Lagna in the Rashi Chakra is placed in a dual sign showing middle distance travel in the country. It is another thing that she may move to a more distant place after marriage due to the Yogas in the 4th Bhava. The Lagna of the spouse should be either of Kanya/ Virgo, Makar/ Capricorn, Vrishabh/ Taurus, Meena/ Pisces, or Mithun/ Gemini.
The other thing is that there is Manglik Dosha formed due to the placement of Mangal in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna and so the spouse also must have a malefic planet in the 12th Bhava to counter and cancel the Mangal Dosha which can bring an element of incompatibility in personal life if not addressed.
The Narayan Dasha sequence indicates the blessings of Narayana and this is a Dasha of Rashi rather than the Graha. The Mahadasha sequence in the Narayan Dasha scheme is given below:
Narayan Dasha of D-1 chart (a versatile Phalita Rashi dasha):
It may be seen from the Mahadasha sequence above that from June this year the Vrishabh/ Taurus Mahadasha is going to start. This Dasha Rashi contains the Atmakaraka Moon and also the Shashi-Mangal Yoga. The Mahadasha of the Rashi containing the Atmakaraka is a period of great achievements and so will be the case in this Mahadasha. This is also because the exalted Moon is in Dasha Rashi as well. New social structures and contacts will make their appearance.
The horoscope appears to be poised on the anvil of many changes. With this I trust I have covered some of the crucial areas of the horoscope and trust you will find it relevant and useful to your circumstances.
Best wishes,
Birth data, names, places and any references to factual details are being omitted for reasons.

CHARTS COMPATIBILITY FOR XYZ

Dear XYZ,

Just looking at your chart and that of your wife, PQR, very many features spring into focus about some of the misconceptions in Jyotish, apart from the sheer complexity of the situation at hand. The greatest damage has been caused by the erroneous opinion rendered to you about the Manglik Dosha (The Blemish of Mars in Marital Matters) in the chart of your wife. In certain Jyotish circles the opinion is current that Mangal (Mars) in Karka Rashi (Cancer) does not cause Manglik Dosha. I suppose you have already found that this does not hold in actual practice! Moreover, the Dosha occurs in the 7th House (H) of PQR?s chart and this Bhava pertains specifically to marriage as it deals with our intimate relationships, partnerships: whether sexual or otherwise, marriage itself, sexual intercourse and our personal interaction with others at an individual level. Thus, the strength of this Bhava is absolutely central in the area of partnership whether in the realm of business or marriage. Affliction of this house leads to difficulties, the severity of which is contingent on various factors in the Kundalis at hand. While Mangal resides in the Kalatrabhava (house of marriage) in PQR?s chart, the situation does not repeat in your chart and thus there is no Dosha Samya or cancellation of affliction. As a result, Mangal is free to create havoc in marital life.

Mangal is the Naisargik Karaka (natural significator) of rage, violence, power, lust, passion, heat and anger. It triggers impulsive behaviour and insatiable desires and appetites. Its names are Kruradik, the cruel one and Vakra, the Graha that adopts twisted and unconventional means to get what it wants. The 7th H is so delicate that in Jyotish it is considered the best situation if there are no Grahas at all here, whether benefic or malefic. The militant and aggressive nature of this Graha violates the delicate nature of the marital bond and hatred, violence and trigger-happy mentalities begin to invade the domestic harmony. In other words, there is no place for the valiant and furious Commander-in-Chief of the Cosmic Cabinet in the Yuvati Bhava or the house pertaining to marriage. To add to the factors that I have enumerated here, Mangal is Neecha or debilitated in the 7th House of PQR?s chart, making her marriage suffer due to a serious affliction of all attributes pertaining to Mars. It is not natural for police, a natural signification of Mars (!), along with the armed forces and other uniformed services, to invade a Hindu-Indian home, even though it may be in the STU (name of country of residence omitted for reasons). All matters pertaining to a Neecha Graha suffer in their significations and the inherent fury of Kuja will rage unabated in a scenario where Manglik Dosha is not annulled in the chart of the spouse and this Mangal is in the sign of its debility as well.

Another interesting feature of the two charts exposes the real worth of the system of Gunamilan or Ashtakoota Milan, which has traditionally and mistakenly been relied upon as the sole means of matching charts. Traditional matching reveals that there is excellent compatibility in the two charts. In this so-called Matchmaking, a total of 36 points is possible. Out of this an outstanding score of 28.5 points has been achieved. It is not the contention that this area of matchmaking is without value; rather it must be viewed in the light that it merits. The various components that comprise the eight divisions of this analysis elaborate on various aspects of the relationship but the focal point is that all of these are based on the natal Moon?s location in the two charts. In other words, it is a Nakshatra based compatibility and can mainly indicate psychological parameters since Chandra is the Naisargik Karaka of emotional mapping and psychological characteristics. While Moon is a focal point in Jyotish and can reveal many things as an alternate Lagna, especially since this Graha is the representative of the Mother Goddess and indicates manifest reality, it cannot be the sole or even the dominant criterion for judgment of results. For example, the Bhrakoot in Gunamilan shows the egoic and family understandings between the spouses and their respective families. The Kundalis score a maximum of 7 out of 7 points in this area showing that the match was psychologically adaptable with the views of the two families and the ego at the level of the perceptive mind was unlikely to become a hindrance. The most important Nadi compatibility shows a maximum score again, 8 out of 8, showing that there is not much chance of the progeny being genetically deformed or otherwise unhealthy. Though this is sometimes taken to affirm the absence of any physical aversion between the spouses, the Yoni more directly pertains to sexual attraction and physical compatibility. Here, the score is only 50% with 2 points scored out of 4 showing some vulnerability in this direction, which needs further investigation in the charts. The other criterion is Graha Maitri, which shows the mental attitudes directly and here the lords of the Chandra Rashi are Shani (Saturn) and Guru (Jupiter) respectively. These Grahas are neutral to each other in the scheme of Natural Friendship and show adequate compatibility, if different in the view they take of the world at a level of emotional perception. Even the other factors show adequate compatibility scores showing that out of educational and private understanding of the world, no majorly discordant notes are likely to crop up.

However, it is beyond doubt that there are serious pressures in the marriage and this ought to waken us to the real value of Ashtakoota Milan. It cannot and ought not be taken as the final or dominant theme while judging charts and this fact is being universally recognized in elevated Jyotish circles. Loose and irresponsible attitudes of astrologers regarding the Manglik Dosha or affliction of areas significant to marriage by other malefic Grahas has contributed to discredit the genius of the Vedic seers. Anyhow, the mistake of an astrologer has hardly anything to do with the validity of eternally true Jyotish dicta. Therefore, it must be recognized that PQR?s chart has a serious Manglik Dosha in the 7th H directly affecting the marriage with sporadic violence, argumentation and intolerable atmosphere in the marital home. Mangal is your Atmakaraka (AK), the Graha farthest advanced by degrees in any chart, and it is teaching your soul lessons pertaining to violence and letting impulsive rage get the better of you. This is the avenue your Atman has chosen to advance the incarnate personality on the path to evolution and advancement. The effort on your part has to be to eschew anger, no matter how serious the provocation and this is said with the full realization that such a thing is easier said than done. Furthermore, when a natural malefic is the AK, it shows the propensity for a high degree of spiritual development. These trials are being visited upon you to understand some deeper significance of yourself and the underlying metaphysics that governs the world.

Kalsarpa Yoga is formed when all Grahas are between Rahu and Ketu. Kalamrita Yoga is formed when all Grahas are between Ketu and Rahu. Since the nodes are always retrograde or Vakri, in your chart, all Grahas are between Ketu and Rahu and thus there is no Kalsarpa Yoga but there is Kalamrita Yoga. The Rahu-Ketu axis is known as the Karmic axis and shows subtle Karma that must be experienced; the subtlety of the situation can be gleaned from the fact that Rahu and Ketu have no material existence so their lessons are also devoid of immediate rationality and always partake of a strong element of destiny and inevitability. When all Grahas are in the grasp of the Cosmic Dragon, of which Rahu is the head and Ketu is the tail, you can appreciate the strong fate that drives all the Graha energies in the chart. The natural age of the maturity and abatement of these Yogas is 43 years and till that age, Prarabdha or the active element of fate guides all events in life. The positive feature is that since in Kalamrita Yoga, fiery and unpredictable Ketu forms the apex, as it were, in accord with the nature of Ketu, the reason behind the suffering is the spiritual growth of the native. This is not so in Kalsarpa Yoga where material concerns obliterate the secret cause behind the destined torment and thus this is a preferable Yoga if a choice exists between the two. Further, the nodes are Neecha being in their signs of debility. This happens in the 4-10 axis and is a Rajayoga at a material level, including the area of career, achievement, societal status, actions in society and reputation seen by the 10th H, the Karma Bhava, but debilitated Ketu again shows that there is a need for you to curb the violence and sudden eruptions of anger. This is crucial, since at a pragmatic level, opinions matter and Ketu in Mithun Rashi (Gemini) rules the opinions of those around you to a great degree. This is so since Mithun is your Arudha Lagna (AL), the external or Mayik personality showing the way you are perceived by others around you, as distinct from the Lagna (Ascendant), which is Kanya (Virgo). So while actually you are a worrying person, sensitive to your own faults and those of others, careful about your health and interested in knowledge in a reserved way for it own sake, you are perceived as an outgoing and vivacious intellectual who is highly instinctive in decision making and ideas, if also enigmatic and difficult to understand. Also, since AL is in the 10th H from lagna, the external personality at the work place and in interaction rules the way you are perceived. It is your own actions that make your image and this is not the case in all charts. Thus with awareness and understanding, you can modify your perceived image to a degree.

Apart from your specific query about Kalsarpa Yoga, the Rahu-Ketu axis is also crucial in that Rahu is debilitated in the Upapada Lagna (UL). Like the AL, this is the Mayik counterpart of the factors pertaining to spouse. Thus, it shows the external attributes of the wife in your case and the way she is perceived by you and others. Neecha Rahu in the UL shows significant affliction to the area of marriage and this affects your peace of mind directly, as you have also indicated in your communication, since this is the 4th H of happiness and emotions. There is great turmoil here shown by the debilitated Demon Rahu and while it has given Rajayoga in relation to inanimate possessions like residence and immovable property, it must give illusion (a natural signification of Rahu) to the personality in the matters pertaining to wife, indicated by UL. It is clear that the destined suffering pertains to the AL and UL since the Kalamrita Yoga covers AL in the 10th H and UL in the 4th H; so while we must view the opinion ignoring the Manglik Dosha in PQR?s chart as being irresponsible, this has only come about due to the inevitability of the Karma shown by the Karmic nodes in the relevant area. It would have adopted any means to visit you. Such strong fate cannot be averted. So some distant comfort can be derived from the fact that all this is not the result of some unfortunate mistake but is destiny in full flow. While in some cases the AL and UL being in mutual Kendras (Quadrants) might have been interpreted as favorable, here due to the afflictions already studied and some yet to be delved into, it shows opposition. Grahas or Padas in the 7th or 12th from UL show the opposition to the alliance and here driven by the Karmic nodes, your wife has been led to file for divorce while you threatened her with precisely this consequence at a prior time. This is a clear-cut manifestation of opposition to each other and reflects the somewhat undesirable Karma that actuates the marriage and has always formed a permanent theme in the relationship right from the beginning. It was studied whether Rahu in your UL received any saving grace, as it were, from a benefic or Shubh Graha to save the day. Rahu is aspected by the Rashi Drishti (Sign Aspect) by Budh (Mercury) but Budh is Himself Neecha in the Kalatrabhava.

This position of Budh is not entirely welcome in the 7th H. Budh along with Shani is a neuter or sexless planet and while no Graha is really desired in the Kalatrabhava, the location of these two is particularly conspicuous. Budh does not aid sexual intercourse or physical attraction especially if other factors are detrimental or challenging. It is a youthful and superficial Graha that likes amoral behaviour and a playful attitude to sexuality, which is perceived as laxity of morals by people at large. Thus, strict watch is to be maintained over one?s conduct; any unwarranted indulgence with women of easy virtue or things of that nature will only aggravate the situation further since it is caused by Budh in the first place. The most crucial thing is to realize that even if some of the cutting remarks of the spouse pertain to the incompatibility and frustration precipitated by Budh, the resultant anger must be channeled with the thought that the situation is after all destined and evoked by Graha energies rather than some sort of a fault. There is yet another indication that Karma has chosen a particularly carefully crafted Graha scheme to work out some Karma pertaining to marriage. PQR?s chart has Mangal in the 7th H in debility while you have Budh in the 7th H in debility. There is only one Graha in the hierarchy of Grahas that Mangal is opposed to in the scheme of Naisargik Graha Maitri and that Graha is Budh. Thus marriage for both partners is assailed in this way as well by affliction of expectation and reality by two bitterly opposed Grahas or what works as an opposition since one of the direst malefics is inimical to the other Graha. In this manner, the first marriage seen by the seventh Bhava oscillates between rage, passion and unbridled desire on the one hand and a sense of frigidity and physical dissatisfaction or intimate incompatibility on the other; this is a pendulum of completely opposite tendencies and must precipitate great pressures and tensions in the relationship.

It was mentioned earlier that it might be more prudent to view the event of this marriage as destined rather than as a mistake that could have been averted with right counseling. This was said with reference to the Karmic focus of Rahu-Ketu. This destined element of marriage, especially as far as you are concerned is reflected in the principles pertaining to selection of spouse as they relate to UL. It is a principle that the Lagna of the spouse should be the UL, the 7th Rashi therefrom, or the signs in Trikonas or trines from UL. In addition, the Paka Upapada Lagna or the sign occupied by the lord of UL can furnish the Lagna of the spouse. In your case, Guru is the lord of UL in Dhanu (Sagittarius) and is placed in Makar (Capricorn). The Lagna of PQR?s chart is Makar suggesting that this marriage has happened due to inevitable Karma. However, for a lasting marriage, a reciprocal arrangement is usually requisite in the chart of the wife. UL in PQR?s chart is in Mesha (Aries) with lord Mars debilitated in the 7th H. Thus the Lagna of husband ought to be Mesha, Karka (Cancer), Simha (Leo) or Dhanu. Your Lagna is Kanya and this is not a linked Rashi. Thus the Karmic bonding essential to cement a lasting marriage is absent here.

The areas pertaining to marriage the first time around are seriously afflicted. In your chart, Guru the lord of the 7th House is Himself Neecha in Makar Rashi. A debilitated Budh placed there weakens t the 7th House and since Budh is the significator of thinking, this brings nervous torment relating to spouse and marriage. The 7th Lord (L) Guru is Neecha in 5th H afflicted by the worst Graha for Kanya Lagna, Mangal. Mars is the highly malefic lord of two Dusthanas, the 3rd and 8th. Since the 3rd H pertains to arms and hands, Mangal made you hit your wife. Though there is Neechabhanga Yoga or cancellation of debility for Budh and Guru both, this will not help in marital matters. Likewise, the exaltation of Mangal renders it very potent to bring violence and fear into the marriage. Mangal affects the Neecha Guru in the 5th House of love, creativity and fascination with the opposite sex and aspects by Graha Drishti, the Kalatrakaraka Shukra (Venus) placed in the potentially most malefic 8th H in combustion with the Dusthana (Evil 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th Houses) lord Surya, the lord of the 12th H of separation from the first marriage. Surya is exalted but carries seperative tendencies as the Trika lord of the 12th House. The adverse station of Shukra in the 8th H further weakens characteristics of marital matters. The aspect of Mars to Venus in the 8th H of secret sexuality triggers Venus and thus restraint in these areas is a good idea for peace and harmony. The debilitation of Guru takes away a lot of auspiciousness from both 7th H and UL, most important determinants of the first marriage. The 2nd House from any Bhava relates to the fruits of that house and the 2nd H from UL is very crucial in determining the extent of longevity of the marriage. The 2nd H from the UL is Makar with Neecha Guru, Moon and exalted but highly malefic natural and functional Pap Graha Mangal. The 2nd L from UL is Shani (Saturn) well placed in Mitra Rashi (Friendly Sign) Vrishabh (Taurus). This also happens to be the most benefic Trikona from Lagna, the 9th H of fortune and luck. This auspiciousness is the feature that makes you contemplate carrying on with this marriage in spite of numerous challenges. But Shani also happens to be in the 6th H of nuisance, violence, anger, enemies, divorce: being 12th from the 7th, indicating the loss (12th) of the features pertaining to the matters of the 7th H: marital alliance. Thus Shani actually indicates a court decree showing separation from the UL. This is also the 12th H from AL and has the Shatrupada (A6). A6 is the Arudha Pada of the 6th H of enemies and separation and denotes the external and visible acts in this direction. Though Shani in the 12th from AL is excellent for career as is the 12th L Surya in the 6th in a Vipreeta Raja Yoga (VRY) but this is not central to the purpose at hand, which is determination of marital compatibility or otherwise. Just like UL is aspected by Neecha Budh by Rashi Drishti, the 2nd from UL is also aspected by Shani by Rashi Drishti. Thus Neecha Guru, Mangal and Shani afflict the 2nd from UL. For Rashi Drishti, all mutable Rashis aspect each other and all movable and immovable Rashis aspect each other except the one juxtapose. Further, A7, the Darapada, the external realities pertaining to partnerships whether sexual or otherwise, is in the 6th H from AL, and this shows adversity and inimical tendencies proliferating in relation to the external image when partnerships of an intimate or personal nature are brought into focus. This also suggests limited physical felicity between the couple.

In PQR?s chart, the 8th H is called the Mangalya Bhava or the area showing the nature and duration of the marital bond. There is a Guru-Chandala Yoga formed by the conjunction of Guru and Rahu. Guru is the Karaka for husband for women, particularly for Indian women where some tradition is still considered of value. Shani-Rahu combination also afflicts the 8th H of the marital bond. This added to the functional and natural malefic Mangal debilitated in the 7th H once again reflects the shaky nature of this marriage. The dispositor of the 7th L Moon is Guru and He is placed in the 8th H afflicted by two great malefics Rahu and Shani. Shani and Rahu are bitterly opposed to Surya and the latter is the lord of the Simha Rashi that falls in the 8th H. The lord of the 8th is in the 9th H with Neecha Shukra. Shukra is the permanent Karaka of marital bliss and domestic harmony and its debility almost seals the issue. Here too, apart from affecting the 7th H Mangal is the UL lord showing multiple afflictions to the area of marriage. Like in your chart, the UL falls in the 4th H of the chart showing that Neecha effects shall be felt in the domestic home. The 2nd L from UL rules the longevity of this marriage in your wife?s chart and Shukra is the lord of this house placed in combustion with Surya in its sign of debilitation. The second house from the UL is aspected by debilitated Mangal by Rashi Drishti and Budh also aspects it. The UL receives the aspect of Guru Chandala Yoga from Sthira Rashi Simha in the 8th H and also Ketu, another natural malefic. The aspect to 2nd from UL might be that of a natural benefic in Budh?s case but Budh is also the Lord of the 6th H, which rules the loss of the 1st marriage through a court decree. This has also brought in legal intervention as 6th is the house of law and punishment. The aspect of Guru to UL is that of a great natural benefic but it loses a lot of its protective grace due to the lordship of two Dusthanas, the 3rd and the 12th for her Makar Lagna which is aspected by full Graha Drishti by a Neecha and functionally malefic Mangal which makes her speak with unusual bitterness at times. Mangal also aspects Budh, the Karaka for speech, with His 4th Graha Drishti; the 2nd Lord Shani is in the 8th H with Rahu. All this points towards incendiary and bitter utterances. The UL and AL are Dwirdwadasha or in 2-12 positions and are mutually dissipative of each other. PQR?s 7th L Chandra is placed in a Dwiswabhava Rashi showing multiplicity and the Kalatrakaraka Shukra is Neecha in another dual sign. Thus a possibility of more than one marriage or romantic alliance cannot be ruled out. Shani Gochar (Transit) is also important and in your case it will be transiting through the 8th H from UL forming a kind of Kantak, threatening dissolution of what the UL stands for, since the Ashtam Bhava stands for endings and beginnings. In your case, this is also A8, showing the manifest events relating to end of marriage shown by the natal 8th H; A8 is also called Mrityupada but it just shows hidden and sudden events in life rather than necessarily evils in other directions. A2 shows the visible things relating to Kutumba or the immediate family. For PQR, Shani will be in the 7th H in Gochar over Neecha Mangal and this too shows some upheaval in marital life. PQR?s Mangal is also in Maran Karaka Sthana (MKS), which is an adverse station for Grahas. For you Budh is in Maran Karaka Sthana. For Budh and Mangal the 7th, for Guru the 3rd, for Chandra the 8th, for Surya the 12th, for Shukra the 6th, for Shani the Lagna and for Rahu the 9th are MKS placements. Grahas in MKS tend to give poor results for the houses they own as well as their natural significations and their placements especially if other factors point to the same results. The placement of 7th L Chandra in the 3rd H of desires and copulation gives desires that are not directed very well and since Guru is in the 8th H, Shani-Rahu and the malefic features of the 8th H vicariously afflict the 7th L. Mangal is the lord of the A7 and UL both in her chart and placed in the 7th H it gives a nature that is not centered on self-control. The need for interaction on her terms and her intensity is relentless due to the unbending nature of Kuja. UL lord in MKS will give adverse results pertaining to the marriage. The location of A7 in the 9th from AL suggests easy interaction with the opposite sex and this area will not show affliction. This is Srimantah Yoga and shows adequate blessings of Sri Lakshmi. There is a Sarpa Yoga in PQR?s Navamsha chart shown by the presence of three malefics in three different Kendras and is broken by the Moon in Chandra-Mangala Yoga which exists in your 5th House in Rashi chart as well. So blessings at a material level are assured. Sarpa Yoga shows passions that are not controlled and the breaking of the Yoga is due to Chandra and psychology and emotional restraint will be the hope for a containing of the affliction of Sarpa Yoga in Navamsha, which shows subtle realities of life and especially describes marriage. Chandra-Mangal Yoga, the link in your chart of Mars and Venus and Budh in 7th H in Rashi and Chandra-Mangal Yoga in PQR?s Navamsha show impulsive and passionate discharging of emotion and deep-seated feelings whether through anger or in some other manner and thus there is a sort of battleground atmosphere created due to the destined and Karmic disturbances shown by other factors. Thus in mutual appreciation, these afflictions are rendered serious.

In Navamsha, Mars is the 8th L placed in the 7th and the 7th L Shukra is debilitated once again and that too in the 6th H, the house of loss of matters of the 7th H of marriage. The Neecha Vargottama (Same Rashi in Lagna and Navamsha Chakras) Shukra shows debilitation of marital matters since Shukra is Kalatrakaraka. You can see, XYZ, that the area of first marriage is at least equally afflicted in PQR?s case as well. That there are subtle strands of Karma connecting her to you as well since Kumbha (Aquarius) is 9th from her UL in Mithun and Kumbha is your Navamsha lagna. Her UL is in the 6th H from AL in Makar, showing tendencies to separation. Shukra in the 6th, as mentioned before is a MKS placement and adds to the seperative characteristics of both the charts. The lord of the Upapada in PQR?s Navamsha chart is Budh and this is placed in the 8th H from Lagna. The 8th from UL has Ketu and the 2nd from UL has Rahu, both the areas governing the longevity of the first marriage are curtailed by these two malefics. Rahu-Ketu aspect the lord of UL Budh in the 8th H by Rashi Drishti, showing Karmic factors that indicate a splitting. The concept of Argala or planetary and sign intervention is also helpful in understanding influences in the chart and this technique of Parashara can illuminate areas effectively. You will recall, XYZ, that Shani?s placement in your Rashi chart was considered semi-favourable. Grahas in the 3rd from any Graha or Rashi have special Argala on that Graha of Rashi. Thus Shani in the 9th H in the Rashi chart has Argala on the 7th H that cannot be obstructed. Shani is a traditionalist and despite perversion and torment will do anything in its power to preserve the status quo. However, since Shani is a sexless, old and bachelor and miserable Graha, its Argala on the 7th H of first marriage, especially with Neecha Budh there will not aid harmony at a physical level with the first mate. It is upon such careful occult examination that the sacred nature of sexuality, like everything else in existence, comes through and it becomes apparent that many factors like destined and Karmic harmony of the partners with each other, emotional understanding, restraint and mutual help play a huge role in this field. Interestingly, Saturn also has special Argala on the 7th H in PQR?s chart in Navamsha and whether she is aware of it or not, there are desires that would like to have the marriage carry on if at all possible. But this is at a very subtle level in her personality and may not manifest visibly since Navamsha tendencies are subtle in nature. Also, Shani?s conservative Argala is not enough to counter the tremendous affliction caused by other Argalas. For example, exalted Surya has Argala on the 7th H in your chart from the 8th and ego and pride will make things really difficult. Neecha Guru, Uchcha Mangal and Chandra have Argala from the natal 5th H and Guru?s protective grace is eroded by debility while exaltation of malefic Mangal infuses so much rage in your mind pertaining to marriage that violence and serious damage are very likely. Neecha Mangal in PQR?s chart in the 7th makes sure that there is no letting up in this perpetual conflict. It is again a mistake to suppose, just like Mangal in Karka, that Mangal will not damage beyond 28 years of age. This is just the maturity age of Mangal and the worst effects of this bitterly hostile Graha are felt before this age. But that is no ground for saying that Mangal will magically disappear after this landmark. No such illusion ought to be harboured; there is some reduction in Mangal?s malefic nature but in view of the very extensive damage to the area of first marriage, this is unlikely to be of much import. As for Argala, Grahas and Rashis in the 2nd, 4th and 11th from any Graha or Rashi have primary Argala. The 5th and 8th have secondary Argala and the 3rd has special Argala that cannot be obstructed.

In your Navamsha chart, the 7th L Surya is in the 6th H of divorce and separation with the 7th itself afflicted by Shani and Shukra, the latter forming Karakobhavanashaya, namely, that the significator of a particular matter damages the affairs of the significator house if placed there. Simha is an inimical Rashi for both Shani and Shukra since they are enemies of Surya. UL is in Meena (Pisces) in Navamsha and Guru is placed in the 5th H and this is a favourable factor that imparts wisdom-oriented tendencies to somehow carry on and hope for things to get better. Guru also has Argala from the 11th H from the 7th on the afflicted Yuvati Bhava in Navamsha chart, trying to pour Gangajal on troubled wounds. UL is in the 12th H from the AL in Navamsha showing that the visible personality seen by the AL will be forced to reject the spouse. UL has Grahan Yoga with Chandra-Ketu in it showing that the spouse?s mind will not be clear and that delusion laced with impulsive rage will feature prominently in marital conduct. The 2nd L from UL is the lord of Arudha Lagna and is placed in the 8th H of the destruction of the subject matter at hand, namely the longevity of the marriage; to add to the adversity, this is also the 6th H from the AL, showing separation from the precipitate personality. Mangal is in the Rashi of Budh, its archenemy, afflicted by Rahu. Mars-Rahu have Argala on Shani in the 7th and Surya in the 6th tries to obstruct it. Thus pride and dignity try to keep it going but two Grahas overpower Surya and rage and anger and nervous torment coupled with meaninglessness and confusion overpower the marriage in Navamsha.

The Vimshottari Dasha sequence in your chart is Rahu-Shukra-Shani. Rahu is Neecha in the UL and shows a marriage that does not stand on a firm footing. The dispositor of Rahu is also Neecha and thus the foundations are further weakened. Rahu aspects by Graha Drishti, Surya and Shukra in the 8th H of termination of the marital bond. It covers and assails the brilliance of the exalted Surya. Though Shukra is an excellent Graha for Kanya Lagna it is the lord of Bhagya placed in the 8th H of loss of Bhagya with the 12th L. So Shukra Antardasha (AD) has brought this facet to the fore. The Gajkesari Yoga in the 5th H is virtually defunct due to the debility of Guru and while exaltation of the AK Mangal is very good for occult advancement, it is adverse for this marriage. The affliction of Guru is at once the affliction of the UL and the 2nd therefrom. Shani Pratyantardasha (PD) tries to make you somewhat cautious and conservative but as Shani is the 6th L of court decree, it does not deny the prospect of separation. Shani is conjoined A6, the manifest part of courts and legal proceedings. Budh PD from mid-Feb next year will probably speed up events and they will be undeniable. Debilitated Budh suggests that getting out of this dangerous situation is a better idea even if such an idea is inherently more difficult for Indians and Hindus.

In the Narayan Dasha scheme proposed by Maharshi Jaimini, the Dasha since 2003 is Makar. Narayan Dasha is a Rashi Dasha and is one of the most potent tools to time events. Makar is the 2nd House from UL and its affliction has been described earlier. Since Narayan Dashas have begun from the 7th from Lagna, let us ponder over the 7th from Makar. This is Karka in the 8th H from UL and 11th from Lagna. The lord of Karka is placed in the 7th with debilitated 6th L Guru from Dasha Rashi. The 7th L from Dasha Rasi is Shani placed in the 6th from UL conjoined A6. Karka is conjoined A8 and Shani will be transiting Karka over the next two and a half years. Meena AD has begun on 24th August and will go on till 25th April. You know that Meena is the 7th H from Lagna with Neecha Budh. In 2005, Moon the lord of Dasha Rashi (actually 7th from Dasha Rashi Makar) will give results and placed with a Guru who disposits Rahu in debility and is in debility Himself paves the way for a separation.

In PQR?s chart, the Vimshottari Mahadasha of Ketu operates. Ketu is in the 2nd H of Kutumba and 8th from the 7th H of marriage ruling its termination. Ketu is conjoined A6 and aspects the 7th H and Mangal by Rashi Drishti. According to the dictum Kujavad Ketu, Ketu acts like Mars and inflames the 7th H. The dispositor of Ketu is Shani in the 8th H afflicted by Rahu and Guru where Guru is the functionally malefic lord of the 3rd and 12th. Shukra is the Yogakaraka Graha for Makar Lagna but it is debilitated with the 8th L. The Narayan Dasha of Kumbha operates in the chart of your wife. Since, in her case as well, the Narayan Dashas start from the 7th H from Lagna, let us consider the 7th from Dasha Rashi, which is Simha, the afflicted 8th H of the Lagna chart, showing an afflicted Mangalya Bhava. This is the 6th from the AL showing that her external personality shall be involved in litigation and court work. The lord of Simha is placed with a Neecha Karaka of marital life and must give its results. Since Simha is a malefic Prishthodaya Rashi, rising feet first, its results shall be felt in the last one-third of the Dasha period. The Narayan Dasha period of Simha is 1999-2005. Thus there are divisions of two years each. The last is 2003-2005, which is running now. Simha will give the results of the most malefic 8th H from Lagna and 6th H of court decree from AL. In 1999-2001, the results of the aspecting and conjoined Grahas would have accrued. In 2001-2003, the results of the Lord of Simha would have come about. The most pertinent fact is that the malefic results of the Rashi are being felt in this phase. From the Dasha Rashi (actually the 7th from Dasha Rashi), Guru is the 5th and 8th L showing that love (5th) is causing ruination (8th) and Shani Rahu in Dasha Rashi make her feel that the spouse (7th L Shani: you) is trying to overpower her personality. Rahu adds delusion, fear, phobias and other malefic manifestations in the sign of the king of the Grahas, the Sun, to whom Rahu and Shani are bitterly opposed. The AD sequence in Narayan Dasha is also quite adverse. Mithun AD is running now and this is the 6th H from Lagna showing violence and court intervention, as too police and physical force. From October, Karka AD will start which is the badly afflicted 7th H from Lagna and the 12th from Dasha Rashi with Neecha Mangal. Violence, rage and injury are more likely than ever in this Antardasha, which lasts till 5th April 2005 when Leo starts which is the 8th House from Lagna and its afflictions have been elaborated upon earlier. From both charts, the actual physical distancing seems most likely around April or thereafter and before that the sole idea should be to avoid further violence and injury, at all costs.

In sum, having studied the Graha tendencies in both charts pertaining to first marriage, the scenario is very seriously afflicted and in such cases it might be most prudent to attempt to minimize the damage from this Karmic event. Divorce appears the best option to try and counteract any possibility of an even greater calamity from affecting the lives at stake. There is a conspicuous want of protective features that might have otherwise helped. It is hoped that this Jyotish analysis will aid a clear vision of the difficulties at hand and offer a reasonable way to step out of this imbroglio too.
This occurred at 10:17 AM on 7.9.2011 (7th September, 2011).

A Jyotish perspective follows.

The Rashi Chart for the moment is given below:

It can be seen that Tula Lagna rises with the Lagna Lord and 8th Lord Venus placed in the Badhak Sthana in the 11th House. This is also called the Hara Sthana where Shiva takes away due to excesses being the natural Pada of the 6th House of Danda/ punishment.

There are three planets in the Badhak Sthana including the powerful Badhak Ravi and the Vara Lord Budh.

The Hora lord of the hour at the time was Mangal and Budh and Mangal and Budh are totally opposed to each other.

Budh is placed in Magha Nakshatra ruled by Ketu (terrorist foot soldier) while Ketu is placed in the 8th House (secret operations). Rahu the mastermind is placed in Ayush debility in Vrishchik Rashi/ Scorpio curtailing longevity of the people (Moon).

Chandra/ the Moon is aspected by Rahu and Mangal with Graha Drishti. Mangal is in Bhagya Sthana indicating the law and judiciary, courts and lawyers. It is the worst Graha for the Tula Lagna being the Marakesh.

It is placed in the Rashi of the Vara Lord placed in the Badhak Sthana in the 11th House. The Vara Lord Budh can give its results both during the day as well as in the night.

The Navamsha also indicates the true picture.

Rahu is very strong in the Navamsha in Kumbha and infuses the poison of planning and scheming through the 5th Bhava of the Rashi Chakra. Mangal the Hora Lord is Vargottama, severely impacting the Lagna.

Guru in retrogression is in Simha Amsha acting through the Badhak Sthana showing that the foot soldiers of the terrorists (Ketu) have acted on the command of a diabolical terror-oriented religious preceptor.

The Badhak Ravi becomes extremely malefic being debilitated in the Navamsha showing fallen Dharma (read erroenous ideas of enlightenment/ release/ pleasing God) and works through the Lagna in Rashi according to the Navamsha Tulya Rashi, giving effects of the debilitated Badhak in the Lagna.

Om Tat Sat

Composite Chart Analysis

Note: The following is a Detailed and Composite Analysis undertaken for a client after an initial Detailed Chart Analysis was drafted at an earlier stage for him. The Composite Chart Analysis includes specific remedial measures through the Remedial Measures Consultancy, an Analysis of the annual propensities through the interpretation of the Tithi Pravesh Chakra, interpretation of a Horary/ Prashna Chart to evaluate an investment query and the study of the health situation through the casting of Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra. This is a Report customised to address the needs of the client. The Analysis in its present form excludes the personal details of the client, such as birth data and place of residence, to protect his privacy and is published here with his express consent.

Dear ABC,

As discussed in our correspondence prior to this Analysis, the focal areas have to be remedial in nature so that effective techniques can be isolated to better the difficult facets of life in this incarnation.

In order to do this effectively, we will have to study the chart from the points of view, inter alia, of inherent weaknesses/ Doshas as described by Parashar and other Sages in the ancient Jyotish classics as well as the challenges precipitated at various levels by the Mahadasha lord of the Vimshottari Dasha scheme.

Right at the outset, one can see that the birth has occurred on the Amavasya Tithi. The Tithi is of overwhelming importance in Hindu Jyotish and forms an Anga/ Part of the Panchanga/ the Five Parts used to study the Quality of Time in Indian astrology.

Tithi is the mathematical measure of the angular distance between the natal Sun and the natal Moon at the time of birth. We are discussing this so that you know what is causing the problem, to what degree and how it is proposed to be remedied. If you do not know this, you cannot understand your own life and its challenges. Tithi is composed of the Jala Tattwa/ the Watery element. The Jala Tattwa symbolizes prosperity and overall well-being. The overweening importance of the Tithi in the life of the Jatak is the reason for casting the Tithi Pravesha Chakra to study annual propensities for the native in the given Hindu year. It shows the levels of
overall well-being and prosperity. Correct? You understand how important Tithi is?

This is the reason why Parashara listed some Tithis as being struck by inherent flaws in the quality of time at birth. This is specifically listed in the Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra, the immortal classic given to us by the Seer. Your birth on the Amavasya Tithi ought to have been remedied at birth; this is what is recommended but very frequently it is found that the remedy is not done at birth. In fact, sometimes it is not done at all. The reason is not far to seek. If the remedy is done, the misery and difficulties shall be alleviated and the Dosha shall stand rectified. If the Dosha is rectified, then one of the avenues to fulfill Karma shall be exhausted.

In fact, your astrologer was also born on the Amavasya Tithi and apart from the classical exposition and interpretation, also speaks to you from direct personal experience of birth on this malefic lunar date.

Amavasya Tithi is ruled by Rahu. This planet is diabolically opposed to both the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon, and is forever trying to gobble them up. Since the Tithi is based on the motion of the Moon relative to the Sun, the luminaries are of tremendous importance here. The Moon indicates the mind, social interaction, the image, prosperity, overall well-being and the flow of money. When Rahu lords the Amavasya Tithi, the Moon becomes very severely and doubly afflicted. Firstly, the major source of lunar strength is its position relative to the Sun. The closer the Moon gets to the Sun, the weaker it gets. On the Amavasya Tithi, the Sun and the Moon are practically conjunct and the Moon is at the weakest junction of the Dark Fortnight. Secondly, Rahu, the arch-enemy of the Moon rules this lunar date. All these factors are immensely adverse for the Moon in the chart.

The vulnerabilities of the Moon in the Rashi Chart will not be elaborated as they have been discussed earlier. Suffice it to say that the Amavasya Tithi Dosha and the fact that the Moon is also the Lagna Lord in Rashi Sandhi is indicative of mental torment and success eluding the native. This Yoga affects the prosperity and well-being and things do not fructify despite the best efforts.

The Amavasya Tithi is stated to rule hell and thus hellish suffering is associated with birth on this date. These things are certainly not meant to foster despondency but to facilitate recognition and acceptance of the destined features of life, so that they may be remedied. One the remedies for the Amavasya Tithi Dosha start working then gains are made from foreign lands, especially relevant in your case (!) and also from underground activity like mining in certain other cases. Notably, both foreign lands and mining are the natural significations of Rahu, the planet afflicting the luminaries due to the lordship of the Amavasya Tithi.

It is unambiguously stated that this is the most important and primary Remedial Measure that you have to perform so that the chart/ life may be released from the very malefic clutches of this Duryoga/ bad combination in the chart.

The remedy is as follows: Find out from the local priest when Amavasya Tithi is falling in a given month; the remedy is to be performed at that time. Have two small idols of the Sun and Moon made: they can be images inscribed on discs, like small coins or just any idols of the Sun and Moon that can be obtained with ease and without undue expenditure. The Sun and the Moon have to be worshiped with the Mantra 'Savita' and 'Aapyayasva' respectively. Just chanting these two single words can be enough. The native must face in the South-Western direction ruled by Rahu while chanting the Mantras.

If the idols cannot be had then the native can just pray to the luminaries in the South-Western direction and pray for their grace freed from Rahu. In Ganga Jal/ water from the Holy Ganges can be obtained, then a pot containing it must be installed at the place of the worship and after the prayers, the water must be poured over one's own head, as well as that of the parents (the Sun and the Moon).

Another simpler Upaya/ remedy is to donate a black cow (NOT a buffalo) on the Amavasya Tithi with the thought that one is giving away all the tainting of Rahu. There are certain other things but you cannot do that in ...Do what you can out of this procedure given above on every Amavasya Tithi till you feel discernible relief, which you most certainly will. The cow has to be donated only once. It is preferable if the cow is not fully grown and of milk-yielding stage.

With this remedy, the chart will be freed to a great extent to begin to legitimately expect returns commensurate with the effort put in. All your financial and business concerns linked with prosperity have their root in the Amavasya Tithi Dosha and the magnitude of this Flaw in the Quality of Time is the reason why the Sage suggested that it be remedied at birth.

The astrologers who may have suggested that wealth and finances pose no problem have failed to notice the Amavasya Tithi Dosha in the chart.

The next thing to do is to work with the remedial aspects of the ongoing Saturn Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme. I wish to immediately refer you to the earlier document that I had drafted for you. Please revisit the parts about the Shani Mahadasha and the Charakaraka replacement. These are important to understand the manner in which your life will change in this Mahadasha. Please refer to the Dasha results as laid down in that Analysis. The main points will be reiterated and summarized herein as well for the sake of your understanding and continuity of interpretation.

Saturn is a debilitated malefic in a Kendra from Lagna and it will give Rajayoga due to this placement. There is also cancellation of debility. Thus, as far, as material issues go, Shani Dasha will give good results after the remedies for the Amavasya Tithi Dosha are done. The latter are like opening to prison gates, so that the person may go out of the captivity of his Karma and then strive (Saturn) and reap the benefits of his efforts. Still, Neecha Grahas are troublesome in their natural significations and matters that they lord temporally in the chart. Therefore, subordinates (natural signification), sexual partners, partners in business (7th Lord), chronic illness (8th lord) are all troublesome areas. The debility of Saturn has and will impact these areas adversely. Therefore, we have to pause and take notice of this problem and address this as well.

The intense focus that Saturn places on the 10th House due to failure and delay will be the driving force in achieving mastery over the work domain and this will give prosperity. But debilitated and Vargottama Saturn afflicts many other crucial parts of the chart. The fact that Saturn occupies its sign of debility Aries in the Navamsha and the Dashamsha Chakras renders it very weak. Its weakness is magnified several times over due to the repeated occupation of Aries/ Mesha in the Varga/ the divisional charts. Saturn is also in Rashi Sandhi in Aries/ Mesha at 0 degrees, in fact it is in a malefic junctional region called Gandanta between a Water sign and a Fire sign, the two elements being opposed to each other rendering the planet even weaker.

Apart from work and overall life at the mental level at a level of receiving and reacting to social stimuli, due to the lordship of the Vimshottari Dasha sequence, Saturn rules some other specific factors in the chart. For example, Saturn is also sitting atop the Darapada/ A7 in the 10th House. The Darapada has to do with our partnerships at a manifest level. It is the precipitate of the 7th House of marriage, sex, partnerships and desire. It is a crucial reference point for relationships. The Darapada is conjoined the Mrityupada/A8. This latter is the manifest, risen facet of the 8th House of sudden events, transformation, suffering and inheritance issues. Some of these attributes and qualities would have been interlaced with the relationships. The Roga Pada/ A6 is also conjoined the A7. This makes the situation loaded. The Karma is such that relationships don?t end easily and enmity and bitterness comes in, this being a function of the A6. To add to it all, Neecha Shani is conjoined this combination and the Shani Mahadasha has begun. In the light of all this, remedial measures have to be done to appease Shani.

The attention drawn to the Charakaraka replacement that is occurring helps the scenario of relationships because Venus will take over as the Char Darakaraka. The women who will come into life now will be prettier, gentler and generally relationships will be more versatile. The inflexibility and rigidity that may have characterized women thus far will be a thing of the past quite soon. You can look forward to positive changes on this front.

Venus also has Digbala/ directional strength from the Arudha Lagna and the South-Eastern direction will be good for material success. The Charakaraka replacement may be announced by the arrival of a woman from the South-East.

To prevent relatives and competitors from becoming a real problem also Saturn has to be appeased.

The thing to do to alleviate the debilitation of Saturn throughout its Vimshottari Dasha and to aid the best results due to the Charakaraka replacement, we need to lift the sign placement of Saturn. This is done best through the device of the Jyotirlinga Mantra. There are 12 Jyotirlinga or forms of Lord Shiva that are full of all His attributes and contain the divine light to obliterate Karmic darkness, to burn evil Karma seen through poor planetary placements and debility etc of Grahas, to shine forth in external life and to inculcate optimism in a meaningful way in life. The 12 Jyotirlinga (Dwadash Jyotirlinga) are mapped directly on to the 12 Rashis/ signs of the zodiac.

When we seek to work with the debilitation of a crucial planet, like Saturn in your chart, the Jyotirlinga Mantra is very useful. The correct mantra can lift the Graha out of its debilitation and rid the native of some of the more stressful aspects of a planet?s debilitation. We need to lift the planet out of its debility. Saturn is exalted in the sign opposite its sign of debility, namely, Tula/ Libra. We need to work with the Jyotirlinga Mantra for Tula so that Saturn can be lifted out of its debility.

The Mantra is:

"Om Namah Shivaaya Namo Mahaakaaleshaaya"

As Saturn is in the 10th House, you should do 10 Malas (10* 108) everyday starting on Saturday. If you find this onerous in the beginning, start with 1 Mala (108 repetitions). Mahakala is the Shiva form corresponding to the zodiacal sign Libra.

This will be the most important remedy to safeguard you during the Saturn Mahadasha that shall continue till 18.1.2025. Not only to safeguard but also to help bring out the Rajayoga potential of the Saturn Mahadasha.

The Lagna and the Lagna Lord are responsible for the health and intelligence of the native. The placement of the Lagna Lord/ Paka Lagna is very important in this regard. As communicated to you earlier, the Lagna Lord Moon, responsible for the health, is very weak in Rashi Sandhi. The Moon is in its exaltation Rashi and gets the strength to receive remedial measures. You must wear a pearl set in silver on Monday after the Moon comes out in the sky. If you can get hold of Ganga Jal, then first wash the ring with the gemstone set in it with raw cow's milk and then with the holy water. Offer some incense and white flowers and then wear the ring.

The weight of the stone is to be 2, 4, 6 or 9 Rattis (not 7/8 Rattis). As the Moon is the Lagna Lord, the gemstone should be worn in the ring finger. The ring finger is symbolic of the Dharma Trikona: the 1st, 5th and the 9th Houses and as the Moon lords the Lagna, the ring should be worn in the 3rd finger.

With these remedies, I am quite optimistic that your life will begin to turn right around it the various troubled areas discussed thus far.

However, to let you have a complete picture, I am going to advise you of specific deities that can be approached for specific areas of life. The first is the Ishta Devata. This deity is responsible for taking the native towards emancipation. This deity is seen from the 12th House from the Atmakaraka planet in the Navamsha Chart. The Navamsha Chart pertains to Dharma. The Atmakaraka planet signifies the soul of the native and the 12th therefrom shows the release of the soul.

The Atmakaraka is placed in Virgo/ Kanya Navamsha and the 12th therefrom is Leo/ Simha which is vacant but aspected by the lord of Leo, the Sun by Rashi Drishti. This shows that the Ishta Devata is Lord Shiva as the Sun is the Graha representative of Lord Shiva. For matters of the soul, you can pray to Lord Shiva.

The next deity and perhaps more pertinent for you at this stage is the Palan Karta. This planet is seen from the 6th House from the Amatyakaraka Graha in the Navamsha Chart. The Amatyakaraka is the planet responsible for the career and so the Palan Karta shows our sustenance and livelihood in this world. The Amatyakaraka planet is Venus and the 12th therefrom is occupied by Mars. Mars shows the Palan Karta. Skanda/ Kartikeya or Lord Hanuman is the Palan Karta in this incarnation. This deity can be approached for relief in financial matters.

The final deity is the Dharma Devata. This planet is seen from the 9th House from the Amatyakaraka in the Navamsha chart and shows us the path that we have to follow in this incarnation.

The 9th House from Venus, the Amatyakaraka, is occupied by the Moon. The Moon is exalted in the Rashi chart, showing Gouri/ Parvati as the specific form of the Goddess which shall guide you to your true and righteous path in this incarnation.

Let us now see some of the specific features as they obtain in this Hindu year. The Tithi Pravesha Chakra this year is cast for the following data... The Hindu birthday, as it were, varies a little from the Western birthday according to the Gregorian Calendar but the Tithi Pravesha Chakra is astrologically and astronomically very astute. True Copy of the Tithi Pravesha Chakra is annexed herewith and marked as ABC TITHI PRAVESHA CHAKRA.

Some specifics have to be checked in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra. Vrishabh/ Taurus Lagna rises in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra for this year. This is a malefic house in the natal Rashi Chart, being the 11th from the radical Lagna Cancer. But this also denotes financial gains. The material positives appear to outweigh the malefic potential of the 11th House. Health has to be bolstered by the remedies detailed above because the Hindu birthday falls on the Vedic (not western) weekday of Saturday which planet is a functional malefic for the Lagna.

The Hora Lord for this year?s Tithi Pravesha Chakra is Jupiter, retrograde in the 6th House as the 8th Lord, forming the auspicious Vipreeta Raja Yoga indicating advance and unexpected gains after adversity, stresses and trials. If you are able to do the remedies, this chart shows the possibility of quite significant material and monetary gains this year. The Hora Lord is in many ways the most important planet for the Tithi Pravesha Chakra and indicates focal areas and crux outcomes for the year.

Ideally, you may want to use the esoteric information contained in this Analysis as some sort of a turning point to understand the trials of this life and as a fulcrum to change it all around for your benefit. The forces also seem amenable to such a venture.

You have apprised me of the investment opportunity relating to the venture involving Digital Camera Photo processing/ printing photographs (Rahu) in kiosks through memory sticks (sophisticated gadgets: Ketu). Therefore, the Nodes have to play the correct supporting role in order for the venture to give results.

Taurus Lagna rises in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra. Venus and the Moon conjoin in the Lagna. This is an extremely positive Yoga for monetary advantage accruing to the native. The fact that Venus is also the 6th Lord and the Moon is the 3rd Lord makes this Vipreeta Raja Yoga. This indicates that the native is in a state of dissatisfaction and from this situation he shall surmount heavy odds to achieve financial success. Venus in the Lagna in its own sign also makes this a Malavya Mahapurusha Yoga making the native acquire luxury items and conservative success, things of beauty and grace, music, vehicles and the like. Both the Moon and Venus
have Digbal / directional strength from the Arudha Lagna in the 10th House. The indications of help or positives accruing from the South East can manifest this year. In addition, due to the similar strength of the Moon, help can also come from the North-West ruled by the Moon.

Both Venus and the Moon are conjoined the Labha Pada/ A11 showing tangible gains. This also goes by the name of the Vahana Yoga. People will see you as opulent and immersed in the enjoyment of Bhoga or sensory/ hedonistic joy. There will be recognition of your individual merit and creative intelligence, as too very good investment. This is seen from the A5/ Mantra Pada conjoined the Lagna and the A11 in the 4th House from the A11. All these indications show financial well being, prosperity and gains from investments.

Rahu is placed in the 11th House promising gains from photography. It also aspects the 11th House from the Arudha Lagna, along with Ketu, with Rashi Drishti confirming gains from photography with the use of gadgets. The aspect of the Sun to the 11th from Arudha Lagna by Rashi Drishti also shows that market leaders or other people at the apex of their respective fields could also contribute to the incoming funds this year. All these are straight pointers to a go-ahead for this investment opportunity showing that the native must avail of it.

Two malefics in the 2nd and the 8th Houses from the Arudha Lagna show poverty. This can be interpreted to mean that the native starts the year on a dim financial note. It is a good thing that the Moon does not aspect the Nodes for that would have let this dissatisfaction linger throughout the year. This is not so, indicating again that the positive combinations in the chart will have the native come out of this state and achieve relative financial heights.

Unlike the financial scenario that forms the focus this year, the area of relationships does not emerge as quite so conspicuous or promising. The broad tendencies pertaining to relationships are seen from the Darapada/ A7 in the Rashi Chakra. This is in the 11th House from the Uday Lagna showing that investment in this project could introduce you to an enigmatic person. Care is needed here because the Arudha Lagna is in the 12th House from the A7 showing a mismatch or inherent incompatibility. The lords of the Arudha Lagna and the A7 are also quite opposed to each other, being Rahu and Jupiter respectively. However, it will not be easy to maintain one?s sense of discrimination as the 7th Lord Venus is exalted in the 12th House, showing that the person will be very pretty, sensuous, artistic, elegant and difficult to understand and gauge. Even in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra Navamsha, the chart pertaining to relationships, the lord of the 7th House is in the 12th House from the Lagna and in the 8th from the Arudha Lagna. You are best advised not to get into a serious relationship this year.

Focus on the remedies designed to improve the radical Karma in this direction and wait for the correct time. This year does not furnish the requisite correct time for this sort of a thing. There should be no confusion in this regard. All arrivals should be welcomed but to plunge headlong into anything romantic is not advised this year.

It is the self and self-confidence that will undertake endeavour with initiative and drive as the Lagna Lord Venus (Self/ Personality) is conjoined the Moon, the 3rd Lord of initiative and courage, in the Lagna itself.

The 6th House from the Arudha Lagna in any Rashi Chakra shows the situation relating to the competition and competitors. Malefics are considered well-placed here. Mars, the 7th Lord of the Tithi Pravesha Chakra, indicating partnerships and relationships is debilitated in the 3rd House from the Lagna, which is also the 6th House from the Arudha Lagna. While this is another clue that very serious romantic relationships are best avoided this year, the very same placement also ensures a heady competitive energy and the willingness to surmount the challenged thrown up by those who oppose and contend with you in life.

Saturn causes the Neechabhanga Rajayoga of Mars and the weakness of the latter planet is quelled to a large extent. You must guard against the instinctive lack of initiative and grasping drive caused by the Sadhu Yoga in the natal chart and utilize the combinations in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra to attempt to attain what appears plausible this year.

The combination of the three planets in the 3rd House from the Lagna and the 6th House from the Arudha Lagna is a Rajayoga that shall fructify with travel, communication, courage, initiative and coming on top over competitors and enemies. Let us the study the Tithi Pravesha Chakra Dashamsha/ D-10 chart to look at the specific tendencies prevailing in the environment for work and achievements this year.

Taurus Lagna rises in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra D-10 chart with the lord exalted in the 11th House of gains showing that the expectations and desires in work will be completely fulfilled, even beyond expectations. However, the Badhak for the chart is placed in the 4th House showing that you need to be painstakingly careful about the specific implementation of the project strategies and merely delegating this aspect will not do. As Ketu is in Gemini in the 2nd House it shows that the investment project involving memory cards (Ketu) and printing (Gemini) really motivates and attracts you this year.

The 6th House relates to service and has the Moon placed in Libra. This shows that even though this is an investment proposal, the question of access of the public (Moon: masses) to the kiosks in the market place (Libra in the 6th House) must be carefully addressed as this will be important for the success of the project. You must have all the information pertaining to this aspect.

You may not feel very comfortable with the actual work till about August 1 because the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha of Rahu shall be on in the Tithi Pravesha Chakra. Though Rahu is well-placed in the Rashi Chakra, it is debilitated as the 10th Lord in the 8th House of the D-10 Chart. From August 1 to October 13 it will be a very satisfactory period in the business subject to the Sade-Sati. Thereafter, till November 4, market leaders and people in positions of authority can come up with newer ideas, all of which would be favourable.

Till December 28, you will need to focus on the functional aspects of the work you are doing and this attitude will reap you a rich harvest and satisfaction in work as the Moon forms Shashi-Mangala Yoga in the 6-12 axis with Mars, showing satisfaction arriving from foreign lands.

The exaltation of Mercury shows a lot of apt creative working intelligence and success in ventures resulting therefrom.

There is a very strong Rajayoga in the 5-11 axis in the D-10 chart showing success from enterprise.

As discussed with you earlier, this question is also going to be analysed through a Horary/ Prashna Chart cast for the purpose. The chart was cast for the time when the query was put to your astrologer and when he received it in India. The data for the chart is as follows: ...; New Delhi, India.

True Copy of the Prashna/ Horary Chart is annexed herewith and marked as ABC INVESTMENT QUERY.

Right at the outset it becomes apparent that the Prashna Chakra is not as impressive and favorable as the Tithi Pravesha Chakra for the investment opportunity. This is always a pointer to the fact that the Karma in this incarnation has been of such a nature so as to alter the natal indications. At the cost of repetition, it is once again stated that Remedial Measures attain the utmost importance in this nativity due to the peculiar and destined vulnerabilities as shown by the Amavasya Tithi Dosha and the placement of crux Grahas in debility, Rashi Sandhi, Gandanta and the nature of the Prashna Chakra. Once the Karmic fallibilities are addressed, many good things can be attained.

In the Prashna Chakra cast for the purpose of looking at the potential of the investment opportunity, Vrishchik/ Scorpio Lagna rises. Very interestingly, it is the 5th House as reckoned from your natal Karka/ Cancer Lagna. The 5th House, along with the 8th House is the Karaka Bhava/ significator house for investment. Thus, the Prashna Chakra clearly deals with the question of enterprise and investment.

The Lagna Lord of the chart showing the Querent is Mars (along with Ketu). Mars is debilitated in the 9th House showing that the native is not confident as the luck factor/ Bhagya (9th House) has not been favouring him and this has sapped vigour and confidence. However, Saturn causes the cancellation of the debility of Mars, showing that remedying Karma (Saturn) holds the key to greater self-belief, energy and vigour.

The Arudha Lagna in the Prashna Chakra is in the 5th House showing that the end result of the investment (10th from 8th) is the reason for putting forth the query. The 9th Lord Moon is placed in the 5th House from Lagna which is also the Arudha Lagna. Rahu is placed along with the Moon showing that the shocks of the past make the psychological state suspect and riddled with doubt, the emotional cognizance fearing the worst. The Rashi Chakra in a Prashna Chakra evaluation is primarily indicative of the present of the consulter.

The Karya Bhava of the Prashna Chakra is the 5th and also the 8th House. The Karyesh/ significator of investment is Jupiter, which is retrograde in the 12th House from the Lagna and the 8th House from the Arudha Lagna. This does not show a happy situation for the native ?at the time? the query was posed. This has to be distinguished from ?what will be the end result of the query? as the latter shall be seen from the Drekkana/ D-3 chart of the Prashna Chakra. As the 10th Lord of the Prashna Chakra (Rashi Chakra) is the Sun and it is placed in the 8th House, it shows that despite the surrounding factors, you are willing to go ahead and involve yourself with the investment.

As the 9th Lord of Bhagya is in the Nodal axis with Rahu and Ketu, it points at remedial measures shown by the Karmic control planets: Rahu and Ketu to better the luck in this venture. As Saturn, the planet of Karma itself is the Mahadasha planet in the natal chart in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme, the remedial measures and their requirement are seen even more clearly.

The Navamsha Chart/ D-9 of the Prashna Chakra is seen for the past. In this chart, Kanya/ Virgo Lagna rises and the Yogakaraka Venus is placed in the 5th House. This shows that the projects in the past have been grandiose. The lord of the 5th House is Saturn and it is badly afflicted by the 12th Lord Sun and the 3rd and the 8th Lord Mars showing very trying experiences in these matters in the past. However, as all the three planets lord a Dusthana and the conjunction occurs in yet another Dusthana, the 3rd House, it forms Vipreeta Raja Yoga. This would have allowed the native to come away with something and to stay afloat.

The Karyesh Guru/ Jupiter is placed in the 6th House in the nodal axis. The 6th House is Maraka/ Killer for the 5th and indicates service rather than entrepreneurial attainment. The Nodes once again indicate that the want of success has not been due to any personal deficiency but due to accumulated Karma. This is confirmed by the fact that the Lagna Lord of the Navamsha Chakra is placed in the 11th House, the 11th being the Bhava of optimism and fulfillment of hopes, desires and ambitions.

Let us study the future propensities through the Tithi Pravesha Chakra Drekkana/ D-3 chart. Here, the chart used is from a Jyotish tradition of Orissa, India. The Lagna rising is Cancer/ Karka and the Lagna Lord Moon, showing the self is placed in the 9th House, the Bhava of luck and fortune. This is important and quite positive as it shows blessings destined for the native through luck and grace, the latter attributes being seen from the 9th House. Mars is a Yogakaraka for Cancer Lagna, owning both a trine and a quadrant, becoming capable of conferring Rajayoga on its own. Here, Mars is very well placed in the 5th House of investment which it itself lords. It is conjoined the 7th and 8th Lord Saturn which gives a harsh image to the business image as someone who drives a hard bargain.

Jupiter the Karaka is well placed in Kumbha/ Aquarius where it can give results akin to exaltation in the 8th House of speculation. This is also a Vipreeta Raja Yoga as Jupiter is the 6th Lord placed in the 8th House.

Regarding the health situation, the Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra furnishes a better picture. This is cast for the time when at the time of the solar return, the Moon enters the Nakshatra where it was placed at birth. Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra is based on the Vayu Tattwa/ the air element and better shows the health situation. True Copy of the Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra is annexed herewith and marked as ABC NAKSHATRA PRAVESH CHAKRA.

There is need for caution in this area as the Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra shows considerable affliction. The Lagna is afflicted by the 3rd Lord Sun in Gemini/ Mithun Lagna. Mithun is the 12th House from the natal Karka Lagna. This is a Dusthana and shows an unfavourable year with respect to the health. Rahu and Ketu afflict the Sun, the Naisargika Karaka for the body by Rashi Drishti from the 10th and the 4th Houses respectively. The Lagna Lord of the Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra is badly afflicted by debilitated Mars and Saturn. The symptomatic predictive diagnosis will depend also upon the condition of Venus, the Karaka for blood sugar. Venus is in the 12th House, placed with the 2nd Lord, the Maraka Moon. The saving grace is that Venus is in Taurus, its own sign. Guard against eye-sight being impacted by the health condition as the 10th Lord is placed in the 8th House from itself and both the Sun and the Moon are somewhat afflicted.

However, this is unlikely to be dangerous or severely problematic as Venus is exalted in the Navamsha Chart in the Nakshatra Pravesh Chakra. The exaltation of the Moon in the 12th House also augurs well for the treatment working. There may be expenditure and visits to the doctor/ the hospital shown by the 12th House but you will respond to the treatment. Till 7th July, you must take the fullest care as the Mars compressed Vimshottari Dasha is on and Mars is a debilitated, afflicted natural and functional malefic in the 2nd House.

This chart makes the need for the pearl very crucial.

Just looking at the foreign takeover possibilities over the next 3-5 years, though the time frame is quite broad based, and the Tithi Pravesha Chakra for a more specific year should be looked at, generally some things can be stated. In view of all that has been stated about Saturn and the quite focused manner in which remedial measures have been prescribed, all these ventures are to be looked at positively.

Career and business are likely to look up. As you get out of the Sade-Sati and into the Rajayoga of Saturn, having done what is required to quell the debility and the Gandanta status of this Graha, you would be well on the way to expansion. Also, the pressing triple Saturn caused by a bereft-of-remedies and afflicted planet in the Vimshottari Dasha Mahadasha as well as the Antardasha, plus the ending Sade-Sati will abate. Mercury Antardasha in the 12th House will also aid foreign ventures.

Precisely how far the Grahas respond in fact to remedial measures is always to be seen from life events. Most often we find that these focused and highly task specific measures work very well and a lot of benefit and positive change is felt in the area that are being addressed. It is for this reason that the ancient classics are so particular in laying down Doshas and astrological situations that are in need of remedial measures.

I trust you have a blueprint of what is to come this year, including in isolated and specific areas. Perform the remedial measures with faith and with awareness of precisely what they are being done for. I have very little doubt that you will be aided in your life journey with these inputs.

Best Wishes,

THOUGHTS ON THE ALL IMPORTANT ARUDHA LAGNA
The Arudha Lagna is calculated based on some exceptions. But the exceptions are flouted for some time. The Arudha Lagna cannot be in the Lagna or the 7th Bhava from the Lagna as these are Satyapeetha/ the seats of truth and Arudha Lagna (AL) cannot tenant these Bhavas because it pertains to the world of appearance. But if the Al were to fall in the Lagna or the 7th House, it is not as if that is an absolute impossibility in toto.

The AL will come to these houses but it is not stable here. A tenuous image will be established. But it will go away, to where it can be stable. This temporary coming and permanent going away can cause instability and changes.

Of equal importance and fascination, if not more, is the coming of the AL to the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna, if this 7th House is stronger than the AL itself. The 7th from the AL is the door to the manifest world and when the AL comes to this place functionally, this would imply that while coming through the doorway, we have imbibed the qualities that we had to encounter and cross so that we become them.

If the Arudha falls in the quadrants to the Lagna, then the transformations can be life altering.

These are crucial factors in evaluating the lives of human beings.

VARSHA TITHI PRAVESH CHAKRA

Once the main birth horoscope is properly understood and rectified, ideally to the level of the 60th divisions, the greatly important Shashthyamsha Chakra, then the Varsha Tithi Pravesha Chakra can be utilised with great success for fine tuning the events that transpire through a given year.

The Dasha system that works very well with the Tithi Pravesha Chakra, our own traditional system taught by the Parampara of Shri Achyutha Dasa, currently represented at the helm by Pandit Sanjay Rath of Orissa, is the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha.

The Mahadhasha and the Antar Dasha can explain any given day with great precision and can help the native with what to expect over very short periods of time. This can be used conjointly with the transits of planets, especially the Moon, using the principles from the Chandra Kala Nadi.

The Vedic weekday/ Vara, correlation of the Lagna rising with the natal Lagna, the Hora Lord are some of the crucial indicators of the dominant themes through the year. The use of the divisional charts and the Arudha Padas in the annual horoscope should be relied on wholeheartedly to give an accurate picture in specific areas of life and at the level of overt participation.

POINTERS ON UNDERSTANDING ONE'S CAREER PROFILE

The first step is always the Rashi Chakra. One looks for the 10th House and the 10th Lord and the Yogas associated therewith. This will show the overall skill structure and the physical environment prevailing in work. If there is a blessing, shown by the association of two benefics, or Amala Yoga, career will take shape naturally and easily. If there is a Curse or an affliction, then there would be trouble and trials, depending on the Moola Dasha indications and the sensitive transits of the slow planets and the Vimshottari Dasha Lord.

For social support in work and people supporting the native in his efforts to get work, the 10th House from the Moon and the 10th Lord therefrom are most crucial. The Sun shows the resources available for work and the 4th (yes, the 4th) House from the Sun should be seen. The Surya Aditya and the Nakshatra lord of the Moon and their placement must be seen for the triggering and the sustenance of the Rajayoga, if any.

Then we must look at the Dashamsha very carefully. The Lagna Lord of the Rashi Chart in the D-10 will show what you like in work and the Lagna Lord of the D-10 will show how you work. The 2nd, 6th and 10th Houses and their lords are most crucial and the strongest amongst these will indicate the career. The 6th and 7th Houses here must be compared to see if the native shall take to service or business. There are some rules in this regard.

The Dashamsha Narayan Dasha can be independently computed and analysed to judge the influences. The 5th House and Lord and the Pratyantardasha planet in the Vimshottari scheme should be used to gauge the changes in work and job. The Arudha Padas can be independently calculated here and should be used.

Careers have mushroomed and so this Varga Chakra is a fertile area for useful research and application.

THE UPCOMING TRANSIT OF JUPITER TO CAPRICORN/ MAKAR IN DECEMBER, 2008

Several requests have been forthcoming regarding the upcoming Gochar of Guru to Makar Rashi on December 9, 2008. While one may write a detailed view on the subject at a later time, when time should permit, the fact is that Makar is the Neecha Rashi for Guru and thus the element of faith and belief and access to esoteric wisdom may go down. Strictly in terms of individual freedom, where the soul of the Jatak is advanced in its Karmic journey, Guru in transit weakness may make for situations where the native is left free from constricting ideas about what is good and proper. In one's mind this is a major question, as to the essential constructs of human ethics. Just as there are innumerable parallel universes of choice depending on personal metaphysics, the Dharmic code for people would also vary according to their own development.

Debilitated planets in the radix have the capability to give enormous money but this comes through people who are facing great distress in life just as the Neecha/ debilitated planet indicates. We could observe the Gochar of Guru to determine whether in charts where say Guru Dasha is running in the relevent or predominant Dasha system for that nativity, and there are other factors that indicate financial bounty, whether the transit debility of the planet in fact furthers the capacity for accrual.

Else, the transit muct be judged from the Lagna, Lagna Lord, Moon, AL, and the Narayan Dasha Rashi taken as the temporary Lagna.

DEALING WITH AFFLICTIONS IN THE HOROSCOPE:

When afflictions in the horoscope exist, in the form of Curses/ Shrapa or otherwise, then they shall certainly influence those part of life as are indicated by the planets and houses involved. Likewise, blessings shall certainly operate to protect and further the native.

The way to deal with the afflictions is to perform the appropriate remedial measures with diligence and authenticity over a paeriod of time. The measure of effect and the time taken shall depend on the level of affliction to be addressed or cured, and on the level of the advancement of the individual soul or the Jeevatma. This latter can be determined from the Navamsha Chakra.

The acute timing of the affliction can be done with the use of the all important and divine Moola Dasha which shall override all periodicities as far as the core experience of life is concerned. In fact, it may be taken that the basic fabric of life at any given time, or during any given span of time is decided by the Moola Dasha. Readers should view the universally applicable Vimshottari Dasha in that context and other periodicity/ Dasha systems in that light though this can be slightly uncomfortable due to the carelessness induced by pop-astrology texts.

After the crux period of suffering and trials indicated by the Moola Dasha is over, a quantum shift in life can be expected if supported by good Yogas in the chart and better Dashas operating all round. The native will feel as if his life has changed for the better and the tought times are over.

Still, the Dosha/ Blemishes and the Shrapa do not disappear from the horoscope. They exist latently and show the basic structure of life in the areas they influence. In other words, if the affliction is severe, they will continue to hamper the life areas though not so actively, because activity is indicated by the activation of a Graha in a Dasha system.

What needs to be done now at the level of the Dhi Shakti/ discrimination, is to understand the meaning of the Yoga. If there is spirituality associated with the combination then one ought to try and see what level of understanding the Yoga wants the native to acquire before the Yoga gets further diffused. In addition, one needs to accept the Yoga after remdying it to the fullest and understanding it to the fullest.

It is also important to note that in some cases afflictions also carry Rajayogas or Vipreeta Raja Yogas within them and just as surely as the suffering comes, conventional or whatever success is indicated will come as well. Nothing can stop this in Creation. In this specific case, the life phase becomes a phase to remember, and the native remembers it till death as it will be aprogress from having failed or suffered to the point of extinction and then to have attained glorious success in the same life, with the same Grahas and perhaps in the same or similar setting.

Remedies should be continued throughout and should not cease with the ending of the difficult Moola Dashas. Results will precipitate when they have to and for this all the Dashas applicable to the horoscope, Gochar/ transits and the Varsha Tithi Pravesha have to be studied together along with any other Jyotish facet that might be relevant for the purpose.

SOME TOOLS OF DYNAMIC ANALYSIS:

Each enthusiast of Jyotish eventually develops his own style to work with horoscope. I usually let the horoscope dictate how I will work with it. Just as people are different, their horoscopes mirror that difference as well.

Apart from this, I do have, boradly speaking, a particular way that I employ in working with charts. I start simply with the Lagna and the Lagna Lord and usually evaluate the placements and Yogas formed with the nine planets. This usually gives a basic picture of life at the physical level of the Rashi Chakra. Sometimes the horoscope does not afford combinations that reveal much and then without dwelling too much on the Grahas, Bhavas and Yogas, some peculiar combinations emerge that must catch the eye of the Jyotishi. These could be overriding features in Jyotish and the person must learn to spot them at the outset as they hold sway over the whole horoscope.

These could occur from the Lagna, Arudha Lagna, Atmakaraka or the Moon or a combination of such reference points. The Gochar of Shani is always extremely crucial to determine what sort of Karma is operating at a given time. Kantak Shani and Sade Sati must be spotted if it is operating.

The most important feature, apart from Yogas such as Kala Sarpa Yoga, Sarpa Yoga, Graha Malika Yoga, is the presence of great affliction and/ or great blessings. If these exist, there is not much point in evaluating some great Yogas that indicate otherwise. These latter will simply not happen to the extent indicated in the presence of the former and if they do occur they will be so frail so as to escape routine recognition.

Thus, blessings and curses apart from the other overriding features must be judged at the outset and in this judgment the Moola Dasha indicating the Karma is of prime importance. In a formal reading one will not evaluate the Varsha Tithi Pravesh Chakra unless requested as a part of the Composite Analysis but it may be taken that this is perhaps the most potent tool to fine tune the Dashas and Antardashas and to evaluate a given year. It is indispensable and must be used.

Prior to coming to work with the horoscope I engage with the other side to rectify the time of birth and the relevant Varga Chakras to my satisfaction as there is no point working with inexact birth time and the given birth time almost always needs to be rectified.

I use the Vimshottari Dasha reckoned from the Moon at the outset unless a conditional Nakshatra Dasha taught by Parashara and explained as is all else by Pt. Sanjay Rath, applies to the horoscope. In the latter scenario I dispense with the Vimshottari and use it at a later stage as a confirming and stimuli-oriented tool. I always use the Padakrama Dasha/ Narayana Dasha and also use it for the D-10/ Dashamsha Chakra where either specific opinion is sought on the career, which is amost always the case, or where the D-10 is conspicuous. I have found the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha to give unbelievably good results in annual horoscopy provided the natal birth time is carefully and accurately rectified.

If the Moon is in the 9th House, we must always remember to use the Vimshottari. It can be calculated from the Lagna, instead of the Chandra Nakshatra when Chandra is weak in Dusthana and not aspected by Guru, Budh or the Shubhapati with the Rashi Drishti/ sign aspect and there are more planets in the Kendra from the Lagna.

I do not use the transits of all planets in predictions but only those of Saturn, Guru, the Nodes and the transit of the Dasha lords and even these to get a crisper picture. I use the transit of the Moon in daily life but as taught qua the Arudha Pada and this will show how the day manifests and which visible areas of life are precipitated. It always works. The transit Moon is an important tool in predictions.

SOME THOUGHT ON THE TRANSIT OF SATURN AND JUPITER IN 2008-2009

There have been queries as to when a detailed and elaborate paper on this subject shall be written. While that must wait, some thoughts are being placed here.

The first thought is that Guru/ Jupiter is now in Makar/ Capricorn and in this sign it is debilitated. This can have several important ramifications. If Guru is the Dashanath/ the ruler of the Mahadasha or the Major Periodicity operating then this can be significant as the blessing of Guru are likely to undergo a modification. Guru is unconditionally giving and even if powerfully placed in the nativity, its transit into Makar on December 9, 2008 will hamper the coming of wealth, auspiciousness and prosperity. If the native is running an adverse Antardasha and the Bhoga of the two is adverse, then this transit debilitation cannot augur well.

However, if Guru is powerful in the radix as stated above, and the chart is advanced in the terms of spiritual quest then this debility of Guru, can take the native away from conventional and respected oaths albeit only with a view to free the native from conceptions of purity. As musch else, this is dangerous and the elite must be cautious on this path. For the lesser developed nativity ethics and propriety must become major concerns and cautionary areas.

Something else must be mentioned here. Students and others would do well to watch for the Jaimini dictum, Tasmin Uchche Neeche Va Srimantah. Both exalted and debilitated planets can give great wealth. If Guru apart from its natural significations is promising financial abudnance then its transit debility could well be the door to a major windfall. Its debility may invite fallen people and those with intelligence issues, those overly Tamasic and those who swear by pragmatic functionality. Needless to say these qualities are not being equated.

As for Shani in 2008-2009 the Graha continues in Simha Rashi for now and for those with this Lagna, the chanting of the Batuk Bhairava Mantra is advised to protect health, ensure that Vata disorders do not get the better of the native and in order to maintain a positive attitude. The other information about the Gochar, Sade-Sati and Kantak Shani is elsewhere on this website.

AN IMPORTANT FACT ABOUT THE 4TH HOUSE:
The 4th House shows the heart of a person. A natural malefic here can indicate a propensity to be cheated in life. One has often found that while dealing with a naturally malefic Graha always check its Chara karakattwa or temporal significations. If such a planet is Atmakaraka or Bhratrikaraka the reading could change from being deceptive himself to beine someone susceptible to such events. The Lagna is also important as it shows the self of the native. The Chandra Lagna, Shubhpati and Paka Lagna have to be similarly investigated. One pointer is that the Navamsha Lagna, more often than not, has an important role to play in the appearance of the native. This could probably be combined with a reading from the Karakamsha Lagna/ Swamsha to glean the inner and soul level attributes as well to come to a fuller understanding both about the native, his actions and those he will probably experience as far as they impact his heart.

ARGALA
Argala is an overwhelming tool in Jyotish as taught by Pandit Sanjay Rath from its source in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Argala means intervention of certain astrological entities on certain others. It is perpetual and is not contingent on any dynamics of the horoscope such as Dasha and Gochar/ transits.

Argala has been depicted by Pandit Sanjay Rath as a superset in evaluation while the Panchanga and Shrapa etc coupled with overriding Yogas such as Kala Sarpa, Kala Amrita, Graha Malika taking lesser priority in interpretation.

The Pradhan Argala to any Bhava/ house or Graha is from the 2nd, 4th and 11th Bhavas therefrom. The secondary Argala is from the 5th and 8th Bhavas as too the 7th. Virodha Argala is obstruction to such Argala but does not denote negativity and especially not non-manifestation. It just indicates another source of influence rather than the first considered. The presence of several Grahas in the 3rd Bhava from the reference point as Parakram Argala where the objective is attained post-effort.

Argala is the key to distinguishing, amongst other facets, between renunciate charts that carry stupendous Raja Yoga that never accrues in the form that it appears in and those horoscopes in which it does. For the Yoga to function fully in order for the native to experience it fully and completely, it must have Argala (including Virodha Argala) from the Lagna, Atmakaraka and the Arudha Lagna, the tripod of crucial reference points in the nativity for this purpose.

A Graha having Argala on the Lagna, 5th Bhava from the Lagna and the 9th Bhava from the Lagna is an excellent Graha and must be propitiated in order to fulfill all desires that the native might have.

PANCHANGA:

The term Panchanga suggests The Five Limbs of Time. Oddly, this segment of Jyotish appears to be restricted to the Muhurta/ Election charts these days. The fact of the matter is that the five limbs of the time of birth of any native indicate the nature and attributes of the significations and areas ruled by each of the five limbs that are coming to the native at a broad level, as a promise of the peculiar set of permutations and combinations of birth at that time and at that place.

These promises have to be evaluated first in contect of the reference frame of the Panchanga itself and then the horoscope should be studied. Some peculiarties of the Panchanga are of greater importance than the blessings and curses in the horoscope and this can be a pointer to the importance of the Panchanga. An example can be Tithi Dosha like Chaturdashi Dosha and the Amavasya Dosha. This writer can vouch for the real significance of the latter though everything in Jyotish must never be viewed in a stand-alone manner. A case in point would be the birth chart of the late Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. Such Doshas are to be remedied at birth or they can entail hellish suffering. If not remedied at birth for some reason, they must be remedied when they can and upon sufficient propitiation relief will be felt at the destined time, to the destined extent as promised by the horoscope.

The five limbs are:

1. Nakshatra (Vayu Tattwa). Health is a major associated area;
2. Vara (Agni Tattwa). Vitality, Major focal areas;
3. Yoga (Akash Tattwa). Binding facor. Spirit. Connectedness;
4. Karana (Prithvi Tattwa). Career. Work. Learning; and
5. Tithi (Jala Tattwa). Relationships. Social interaction. The flux of things.

Note: This knowledge has been revealed in its proper perspective by the teachings of Pandit Sanjay Rath.

BADHAK:

This writer was not focussing on the Badhak too much in his work with Hindu horoscopy till quite recently. This area of horoscopy is mired in some needless doubt. In one's initial years of study of this art, one had come across sentiments that as every Lagna in every horoscope had a Badhak Rashi and therefore a lord of that Badhak Rashi/ Badhakesh, hence the very concept of Badhak did not have much import as it was common to every chart. That stream of thought chose to focus instead on the 22nd Drekkana and the 64th Navamsha, which must be focussed on, but not at all as a sort of compensation for overlooking the Badhak. One may overlook the Badhak but that will hardly prevent the Badhak from looking at the Jatak if the horoscope should so indicate.

Some brief pointers to the Badhak and its evaluation in the horoscope are given below. This pointers have been assimilated from the works of Pandit Sanjay Rath and the scholars/ Jyotish Gurus of SJC. Specifically, the work Collected Papers in Vedic Astrology by Sanjay Rath, Sagittarius Publications, has brought out the subject in clear focus.

1. The Badhak acts akin to Rahu as Rahu is the lord of the Badhak Rashi for the Kalapurusha and usually creates obstacles/ Badha;
2. If the Badhakesh is afflicted it needs urgent attention by way of remedial measures;
3. The Badhakesh works better in foreign climes just like Rahu;
4. For Sthira Lagna/ Fixed Signs, the 9th Bhava, for Chara Lagna/ Movable Signs, the 11th House and for Dwisvabhava Lagna/ Mutable/ Dual Signs, the 7th Bhava is the Badhak house;
5. There are several types of Badhak and their effects can be wide ranging from irritants to schizophrenia and serious afflictions by way of mental abberations;
6. Other Badhak Dosha such as Preta Badhak and Pishacha Badhak do not have much to do with the Badhakesh or the Badhak Rashi but are terrible affliction in the horoscope;
7. Along with overarching Doshas such as Kala Sarpa Yoga and Sarpa Yoga, in this genus of Badhak Yogas the Wrath of the Sarpa Devata also must be judged carefully.

There are very many facets of this branch of evaluatiion of problem areas and those with such lacunae in the horoscope must realise that it needs careful and earliest evaluation and remedial measures.

REMEDYING ADVERSITY:

Sometimes even for good minds the distinction between metaphysical good and bad can be obscured due to bad combinations in the horoscope. The remedial measures being received for such combinations such as Badhak, Tithi Dosha, Graha Malika, Kala Sarpa/ Amrita Yogas, Sarpa Dosha, Wrath of the deity and Sarpa Devata and Shrapa/ Curses indicate that such Karma is ripe for being resolved due to Purva Punya or good deeds done in the past, and/ or in this life etc. If such Upaya/ remedial measures are subsequently performed, that is surely an indicator that the misfortunes are being remedied and the native/ Jataka is making sincere attempts in this direction.

People often wonder how much Upaya is to be done. Do it at least till you feel relief from the afflictions. And thereafter whenever you can. That will be a good idea.

Sometimes adverse combinations and/ or mistakes made for whatever reason in the area ruled by the affliction will shows themselves, as the remedies start working to show the pain, shock, deception, hurt, melancholy, incredible suffering, humilation, Durbhagya, rage, headlessness, violence, disapppearance of mental peace etc, whatever may be shown by the malefic affliction. This is like the poison before the Amrita and we must all pray to God to not punish us too severely and to give us the strength to bear this without too much damage as after all we are already repenting through the remedial measures.

Then the light is likely to shine in the nature of purity, good fortune, success, happiness, auspicious happenings, smiles and laughter, peace, propsperity, devotion, prayer, ritual, meditation, good deeds etc. whatever may be shown by the benefic facets of such Yogas and/or those of the chart which may otherwise exist.

ARUDHA:SOME DEEPER THOUGHTS

Those who are blessed with the awareness that Parashara and Jaimini have discussed Arudhas as intrinsic and extremely crucial aspects of horoscopy would be further well advised to appreciate that some deep truths about this have been illustrated in the Nadi literature such as Deva Keralam/ Chandra Kala Nadi and the Bhrigu Nadi.

For instance the Darapada/ A7 is crucial for sexuality and overt interaction with the opposite sex. The location of the A7 relative to the Arudha Lagna, the lord of the A7, the Grahas posited in the A7 and the 7th Bhava and the 7th Lord have to be carefully examined together to arrive at a full understanding of the sexual and romantic life of the native. For the investigations as to sexuality within the marriage, the relativity of the Upapada Lagna and the Darapada to the Arudha Lagna and the UL and A7 mutuality inter se have to be considered carefully.

Venus and the Kalatresh also have to be evaluated to divine the attitude of the native in these matters. The Navamsha has to be used too with the specific dicta relating to morality and fidelity being examined threadbare.

The other area is that of Bhavas/ houses when judged from the AL. This is completely overwhelming in its importance and centrality when evaluating the life of the native in the manifest and external world. The concept of Gunas or attributes is important to understand the life of the naitve as others see it. Some of the overarching house are the 1st and 7th, 2nd, 11th and the 9th and 10th. These can completely define the native especially when fuelled by an understanding of the Lagna Chakra/ Rashi Chakra.

ETHICS THROUGH THE PRISM OF JYOTISH:

One used to ponder as what is truly Good or truly Bad. In analytical philosophy and philosophical ethics a lot of work has been done in this area and yet no real answers were forthcoming.

Jyotish reveals through the Grahas as to what may be truly Bad and thus avoidable. Without getting into the area of afflicted natural benefics we should just keep to the natural malefics for this purpose: Rahu (shock, cheating, deceit); Shani (lying, perversity, pain, sorrow); Ketu (headless violence and abusiveness); Mangal (rage, anger, irritability, physical violence, blood, cuts, wounds) and Surya (ego-tripping, cruelty). Acts which manifestly involve such attributes without justification (army, police or some such background societal construct) are astro-ethically Bad and ought to be avoided if Karmic burden is to be avoided in turn.

ATMAKARAKA, CHANDRA YOGA AND BRIHAT JATAKA:

When studying the Atmakaraka, it is to be noted that the Grahas, Arudhas, Karakas and Bhavas in the Kendra to the Atmakaraka are the strongest to assist the King in His objectives. Those in the Panapharas are of lesser strength and those in the Apoklima are the weakest.

The curious thing is that Varahamihira in his Brihat Jatak, advises the converse for the Surya-Chandra Yoga. In other words, when the Chandra Graha is in Kendra to Surya, it is weakest. In Panaphara, stronger and in the Apoklima the strongest. Also if Chandra, the Karaka for flux and social interaction is in its own Amsha and either joined or aspected by Guru or Shukra (in Rashi or Amsha?)then the native is wealthy and happy.

In common practice it is found that 'all' Yogas have their play. Even with the Moon afflicted and bereft of the Grace of the association with either of Guru and Shukra in the Rashi can deliver the results if in own Amsha and forming Gajakesari Yoga in the Navamsha is some such fortunate Yoga is coming through.

Varahamihira advises us to see the 10th Bhava from the Lagna for work, the 10th Lord, the Navamsha dispositor of the 10th Lord in the Rashi and also the similar entities when reckoned from Surya and Chandra in the Rashi Chakra. This is very valuable. The 10th Bhava from the Lagna may not really show what work the native is performing or even the sphere of work. It may only show how the native (Lagna) shines in work or what are the modes of application and what are the events that come to pass for the native in the realm of work at the physical level.

From the Moon, the 10th Bhava and the lord will show the manifestation of the social support in work and the Navamsha lord of the 10th Lord from the Moon will show the real area in which such support comes. From the Sun, such Analysis will show the field of resources in which the native applies himself.

A SPOT OF ORIGINAL THINKING

It should be noted by those following astrology very closely for guidance in their actions, reflections in the Jyotish prism of what transpires, and the like, that experience while it occurs is acute and the flux of things does not permit simultaneous reflection on matters esoteric. Perhaps the more detached, more evolved can do it but generally the mind cannot do this. All of joy, suffering and concentration, all intense and captivating Chandra experiences, while they are happening preclude conscious attention to the Jyotish root, to destiny with all its layered fabrics.
This should be more so when the Moon at the given time transits a movable sign, because things happen more, quicker and in a more mobile fashion due to the Rajas Guna. In Tamas/ fixed signs if the natal chart has supportive Yogas one may analyse the flux since Tamas actions perhaps extremely fruitful like sustained research are nevertheless slower and afford the mind more scope for venturing into other areas. The dual/ mutable signs are characterised by Sattwa and therefore the peace must be inherently conducive to multitasking and intellectual versatility associated with the dual signs. There is the greatest scope for consciousness of many things here.
At the deeper level of destiny it can be understood thus. Happiness is a reprieve and destiny lets you simply live it without analysis. Pain and suffering are punishment and till a point Karma does not permit us for the mystic Jyotish root of the pain. Even the simple Gochar affliction to the Moon will not register with the mind till the pain is to be experienced. On reflection, most of the time, simple afflictions to the transit Moon can indicate the reflected Karma, unless of course the malaise is deeper. The mind does not seek explanation for happiness for such is the nature of the benefics. Only the genuine initiate, student, seeker will wish to know the source even of peace, happiness and contentment. Malefics make the Mind want to run and so at the first available instance of a solution-availability, a break from the Karma, one seeks answers.
Ultimately, one should know, all is destined. If Upachayas are involved one can attempt to play more but in the confines of the Graha placements in the Upachayas and the Yogas etc that characterise the houses 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th. The Yogas here are more amenable to free will.

It is often stated that the Gochar Moon should be studied. There are many confusions about studying the chart from the Chandra Lagna, for instance. The basic fact of the fast moving Moon governing important areas and events of actions is often overlooked. When these words are being written, there is a Gajakesari Yoga in transit in Aquarius and it is very conducive for positive events and width and expansive events to materialise if the other factors do not hinder this. This should be seen from the Arudha Lagna as well for it to show up in the realm of Maya and societal interaction.

The Chandra Kala Nadi principles of the trinal and 12th House Moon from any Arudha Pada works very well and if the Antardasha in a positive Tithi Pravesha Chakra supports then some meaningful events can transpire. There are reports that the Vimshottari Dasha works very well with Tithi Pravesha but this author finds the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha working very well in these horoscopes.

SHINING:

Sometimes there is concealment of the effulgence of a powerful planet, and if in Upachaya then this could be willed, the proportion of will depending on factors such as the involvement of the Lagna Lord. Fatedness can come with the Atmakaraka and the Graha of Karma, Shani, and of Karmic desires, Rahu. At the fated level, the eclipse or concealment can come because of Shrapa, affliction or the relative strength of the malefics at the time due to a variety of factors.
The willed concealment can come due to innate common sense and natural reactions coupled with application of Dhi Shakti. If the circumstances are vulnerable, then glory has no place. If ‘the Sun has to shine’ then the skies must be in a state of readiness, the field of play must be in a state of readiness. The time should have come.

The shining must be aware of that which concealed and eclipsed, necessarily, and the effects of those can be propitiated with the Vyas Mantra and invoking the positive principles of the Grahas.

What is inimical must be recognised as soon as the Time permits. What is Glorious must be worshipped and followed as soon as malefics slowly permit. If some part of life is not conducive and yet is to be experienced for the seeker to know, then upon experiencing, there should be distancing if in Upachaya.

HAPPY HOURS:

Allure of reprieve. Shani has the Naisargika Karakattwa/ natural signification of alcohol. Shani has the natural signification of melancholy. Through alcohol, a reprieve from unhappiness? Having a drink might be a different thing. Might be. A lot of thought is required to unravel these mysteries.

EXALTATION OF THE LAGNA LORD:

The best characteristics of the Lagnesh come forth and for noticeability, this phenomenon in Gochar can put things in stark relief. Since the Lagna Lord is the Self, if enemies and inimical things have been concealed or damaging, it will reveal their whereabouts and fight them. It will give thoughts in the Dhi/ discrimination as to how the adversity has eclipsed or worked to detriment in the past. It will please. The word for exaltation is Deeptawastha. Thus, the native wil be Deeptimaan. He shall have an aura of glow and radiance.

Readers may appreciate that it will be Dharmic to step back and bow down humbly to the effulgence of the Lagnesh and not credit oneself with the feeling of positives though all things must come to pass through extant agency. Therefore the corollary is to make a note of what the Ucchha Lagnesh teaches in its sojourn of exaltation. The specific body part it rules in the natural zodiac/ Bha Chakra can receive care and will show improvement. For example, the Sun will show the head, the Moon the thoracic cavity etc.

Since the Lagna Lord is like the Sun, the latter being the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for the Lagna, the lesser and damaging emotions like envy, jealousy and inferiority, whether indulged in or encountered, will seem antithetical to the inherent structure of the Lagna. Therefore to have the Lagna rise, one should adhere to the traits of the Lagna Lord and the Sun, to whatever extent permissible in a given horoscope. Those with such Grahas in the Upachayas have greater room to exert efforts in the right direction.

PENNY DREADFUL:

Avoid it like the plague if you have a strong Lagnesh and/ or Surya. Have you ever seen a glorious king begging or counting his largesse. Except for some Lagnas and Lagna Lords, this would be good advide if the Lagnesh is with full Digbala in the Rashi Chakra or in Deeptawastha. Likewise for the strong Atmakaraka.

There is a reiteration of the caveat hereinabove enunciated: do not attribute the glory to separate 'I' but have it fed from the Source.

LIFESTYLE:

Surya is the Naisargika Karaka for Jyotish and thus when Surya is strong in a spiritual chart where the Atmakaraka associates with the 11th Bhava from the Lagna (4th from the 8th: learning of the occult, secret and the esoteric), then Jyotish Jnana is strong.
This knowledge will emerge in a Gochar where the Great Luminary is exalted in Gochar or otherwise very strong. It may emerge as lectures (speech), papers and writing if Budh, the Naisargika Karaka is strong and through the Guru-Shishya Parampara if there is Sambandha between Guru and Budh in the radix. It will burn the Tamas and Sattwa will emerge.
Glory dissipates with Tamas. Glory arrives with Sattwa. In some cases absence of glory amidst Tamas is not noticeable due to Lagna rising and/ or the features of the Rashi Chakra/ Arudha Padas.
Rajas is the Guna of creation while Tamas is the Guna of destruction. Sattwa is the Guna of sustenance. Whatever of created by Rajas stands to be destroyed by Tamas and sustained by Sattwa. Since the Karaka of the Lagna is Sattwic and the Karaka of food is Sattwic, the Sattwa Guna is excellent for Lagna and the food. The body should be Sattwic and food should be Sattwic.
The image should be Rajasic. Fighting and competition are Tamasic. Wealth is sustained by Sattwic measures. ‘Those who keep wealth in their minds cannot keep it, those who keep it in their thighs (Dhanu/ Guru/ perspective/ Grace/ Sattwa) always keep it.'
The 6th Bhava is Danda and the 6th Lord will deliver the Danda/ punishment. If afflicting the Paka Lagna and the Lagnesh happens to be Sattwic, it will act as direct punishment to glory, body, shining, effulgence, purity, growth, Jnana, perspective, Jyotish and if afflicting also the Arudha Lagna or the 7th from it, the image and the emergence and participation of the image. Therefore higher attributes of Tamas Grahas are to be used. If Tamasic consumption is indulged in it will have direct deleterious impact on life (Lagna, Lagna Lord and the Bhava/ Arudha Padas involved.)
Stay clear. Avoid it like an epidemic, especially if some leeway is destined by virtue of involvement of Upachaya Bhavas and/ or lord thereof.
Have sweets and become fat. Yes. Madhur Swada, sweet taste. The taste of Brihaspati. It is a better alternative. It is the only alternative.
Deny ruinous temptation of the Badhak, Shashthesh, Ashtamesh. Adhere to Guru and the Lagna/ Lagna Lord. Follow the command of the Atmakaraka.

NEWTON'S LAWS OF MOTION AND JYOTISH:

Let us consider one of the laws. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Karmically, it may be. But we are concerned with partly free-willed action in the human realm.

It would be the opinion of this writer that this law should not be followed in the realm of Upachaya. Suppose another's action is negative. If the reaction is negative, there is a vicious circle created. Even worse, the Papa/ Kroora Graha reigns because of continuance of negativity. Choose another reaction which may not be either equal or opposite.

For this you may need:

(i) another Graha joined which can effectively enter the scene;

(ii) a strong Graha (Vakra/ Cheshta Bala) aspecting the relevant Yoga with Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect;

(iii) a strong Graha aspecting the Yoga with Rashi Drishti, which can effectively intervene (Cf. Parakrama Argala of Ketu on the Pada Lagna/ Surya in Bhagwan Shri Rama Jatak, setting right Varuna, exalted Shukra giving Virodha Argala to the Pada, with Rashi Drishti);

(iv) involvement of the Atmakaraka indicating alteration, improvement and other measures, rather than the same old, same old, of the equal and opposite;

(v) very importantly, the involvement of a strong Upachaya (s) for the exertion of free will and Karmic leeway.

The other rules of Jyotish apply squarely.

If you are lucky, you may wipe out all that challenges without a trace of Tamas. This can be viewed as a work in progress if encountered in life, just as Upaya for Panchanga Dosha, Shrapa, Sarpa Yoga, Kala Sarpa Yoga, Graha Malika Yoga etc.

Om Tat Sat

PARIJATA YOGA & HEROISM:

At the outset the learned reader is advised also to refer to the other article on this website titled 'Traversing the Momomyth With Vedic Astrology' for background information on the musings in the piece, for greater appreciation of the subject matter.

The Parijata Yoga is a celebrated Yoga in Hindu esoteric thought and is also renowned as the 'Wish Fulfilling Yoga'. The roots of this wish-fulfilling tree may be found in the Bhavas/ houses 2nd, 4th and 11th in the Rashi Chakra/ main chart of the horoscope. The Yoga/ matrix for fructification of the combination is formed by the conjunction or Sambandha/ relationship of the 2nd lord, 4th lord and the 11th lord. The Yoga is rooted in learning and this can be studied through the Argala and Siddhamsha Chakra.

Some thoughts will be given hereinbelow about this presently.

However, the main theme of the jottings in these paragraphs is that the intensity of the learning and perhaps its quality as afforded by the Parijata Yoga can broaden the vision and help the person tap knowledge in new ways. It can be an interesting, perhaps novel search for Satya/ truth.

Otto Rank in his magnificent work 'The Myth of the Birth of the Hero' opines that that hero is exposed to envy, jealousy and calumny to a much higher degree than all others. Therefore, when we look at the Rashi Chakra of a trailblazer, a heroic figure, do not simply look for very potent planets. Look also for striking affliction. Both must exist. Great strength and great frailties. This needs to be bult on and this is not the place for it.

In any case, there are other facets of hero myths that cannot be elaborated here but some of the most severe Yogas at the personal level including ethically challenging Yogas would simply have to be present for the mythic archetypes to play out as they always have! Yet, the innocence of the hero must resolve the terrible manifestations because he must be truly luminous like the Sun, despite the socially hideous and prohibited occurances. Also for this, this is not the place for a complete thesis.

Back to Argala and Siddhamsha and their role in helping the understanding of the Parijata Yoga. The primary Bhava for education is the 4th. The 11th Bhava is but the 8th Bhava from the 4th and the knowledge taken in the 4th is digested and transformed in the 8th therefrom, the 11th Bhava from the Lagna. The 2nd Bhava of speech has Sukh Argala on the 11th Bhava and the power of expression and speech furnishes the happiness to the 8th Bhava of digested knowledge.

The 2nd Bhava from the Lagna also happens to have Labh Argala on the 4th and it is this expression that is the fulfilment of the hopes (11th) of imbibing the knowledge in the first place. This can be specifically evaluated in the Siddhamsha while at the Rashi Chakra level it will give the results at all levels.

One feels if such Yogas otherwise involve upliftment, the heightening of their activity brings luck and positive transformation to the native. This will be apparently tautological if Jyotish is forgotten and the external manifestations (not Arudha but just what can result from the Prijata Yoga!) are studied. It will then be obvious that such learning will lead to fruitful activity if unimpeded by other factors, and which in turn may lead to success and wealth and attainments. Be that as it may, the foundational dynamics remain the same.

Deeper insights about psychological anthropology, culture, the course of humanity through history and like matters may be possible with the Yoga. In this example, Heroism across the world also stands to be better understood due to the fabric of destiny in such charts.

Om Tat Sat

RAHU & THE LUMINARIES:

The Vyasa Mantras can reveal the nature of the relationship Rahu has with the luminaries. If associating in the radix, the sense of Self, health, pride, ego, respect, propriety, father, resources, glory, mind, mother, feelings, society, groups, food, relationships, Jala Tattwa and all events that may be related to these will show peculiarities, affliction, unusualness, strange Karmic strains, and such.

The intensity of the affliction will depend on so many factors that it is neither possible to enumerate them nor even to lay down any meaningful hypothesis. Some illustrative examples are given: if one of the luminaries is the Lagna Lord then Rahu becomes very malefic, being malefic 8th lord for Karka Lagna and the Maraka for Simha Lagna.

Association with the 6th House will definitely make the native prone to substance abuse and mental torment.

In transit some of these indications can come to pass.

To everything there are at least two sides.

If the planets despite the afflictions are strong and create potent Yogas then foreigners, foreign lands, access to any culture, perhaps global work, ease with sophistication and passing muster in any setting or company, thoughts without boundaries, research, novel thought, power, political power, charisma, enigma etc will show up.

Rahu whirls the Karma around the mind, body and soul. The native may not be able to sleep if a sudden intense Yoga in transit occurs. Past shocks, humiliations, setbacks, perversions, curious abuse suffered may come back in the mind to show the person the power of Rahu and what it once did, even if the whole tenor of life has changed since. The flip side is the journey becomes clearer and the distance covered is suddenly more real and measurable.

DEVASTATING ALLEGATION:

Allegations and severe aspersions are the work of Rahu. In one nativity, there is the Guru Chandala Yoga in the 5th Bhava from the Lagna. The Moon is also joined the Yoga in Dhanu Rashi. This also happens to be the Arudha Lagna for the native. When the chart was shown to this astrologer, there was nothing remotely resembling allegations on the horizon. This is because of the Dasha sequence. The Mahadasha Graha was not involved in the Yoga in the 5th Bhava from the Lagna.

The Mahadasha was changing to that of Rahu. This is a very adverse Yoga in the 5th Bhava from the Lagna because Rahu is also debilitated in the Guru Chandala Yoga. Rahu lords the 7th Bhava of sexuality and marriage while Guru is the 8th Lord of sudden events and the Moon is the 12th Lord of foreigners and foreign countries.

In the Arudha Lagna, the Gajakesari Yoga formed by the conjunction of Guru and Chandra in Dhanu Rashi is excellent for the image and the image can be that of a ‘nice’ man. However, when the significations of Rahu becomes strong the effects of Guru Chandala Yoga will come and the delusion to the Mind will be absolute. Rahu’s debility gives virulent results.

The native has an active social life (Moon in the Arudha Lagna) and can be considered popular. Mars the previous Mahadasha lord does not have much to do with the Arudha Lagna save for giving Labh Argala. Rahu’s association with the image (Arudha Lagna) in the Mahadasha of Rahu in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme, which started just prior to the incident, can create a scandal and scandalous allegations.
Rahu in a sign of Jupiter gives a scandal related to the values and ethics and a foreigner alleged that the native attempted to rape her. Both Rahu and Guru have Graha Drishti to the Lagna while the Lagna Lord is debilitated with the Badhak Mars. Transit Moon was over the Vikrama Pada (copulation) in the Lagna and 12th from the Shatrupada joined debilitated Venus in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna and in the 12th Bhava from the Badhak. Venus is afflicted by the Rashi Drishti of the Guru Chandala Yoga from the 5th Bhava and that of Ketu as well in debility. Some past life issues with dark worship (Neecha Shukra in the 12th Bhava from the afflicted Badhak) have led to this Venusian disaster.

Though Rahu will give the results of Guru, the Guru Chandala Yoga will muddle the effects because the Guru Chandala Yoga is a specific Yoga in itself.

The native had received Counsel previously that he ought to stay away from women and marital efforts. The native was married once but the Atmakaraka Shani is joined the first Upapada Lagna (UL 1). The native married an older woman. The Upapada Lagna is also aspected by Neecha Surya and the Badhak Mangal. The 2nd Bhava from the Upapada Lagna is tenanted by debilitated Ketu and aspected by the terrible Guru Chandala Yoga and Neecha Shukra as well. The first marriage broke because the wife was already in love with a man at the time of marrying the native.

The 2nd Upapada Lagna falls in the 5th Bhava from the Lagna and focuses even more on the affliction on the Guru Chandala Yoga. The native was told that the shock and perversion will manifest even more if he interacts with women with a view to marriage (2nd Upapada Lagna). Some remedial measures were given as Rahu Mahadasha was about to start.

The native will probably emerge relatively unscathed. Guru is exalted in the Navamsha Chakra. The native even in the past was asked to embrace the path of Guru rather than Rahu and to adopt the eternal wisdom of India rather than the tech-savvy citizenry of the world, which in itself might not be a bad thing, but is a disaster for this chart. Both the 12th Lord and Rahu are involved in the Guru Chandala Yoga.

The manifestation of the 2nd Upapada Lagna, in whatever affliction, and to whatever frail degree will end the marital cycles because the Lord of the 2nd and 3rd Upapada Lagna both are joined Rahu.

There must have been something but the lady is not free of blame. She is of somewhat dubious credentials and is well-known to the native. The circumstances suggest an environment of familiar and intimate togetherness that spiralled out of control.

This writer has not seen the horoscope of the lady but has been advised that it is not without peculiarities. Be that as it may, the native receives words from planet Jupiter to somehow try and foster relative perspective in the mad ignorance of the Guru Chandala Yoga.

In the Tithi Pravesha Chakra, the 10th Bhava rises in the Lagna with the Moon debilitated as the Hora Lord in the 7th House. Moon is the 3rd Lord of copulation and its debility in the 7th House shows an afflicted and unnatural mental focus on sex for the year. The Tithi Ashtottari Dasha sequence at the time was Moon-Rahu with Rahu in Marana Karaka Sthana in the 9th Bhava with a debilitated Guru in Makar Rashi!

There is utter destruction of values and ethics and Dharma. It leads to a terrible shock and trauma.

Generally Rahu’s allegations by association with the Arudha Lagna are false but in such cases Rahu is alone. With conspicuous Yogas such as Shukra-Mangal Yoga or Guru Chandala Yoga, the readings can change.

SATURN IN VIRGO:

Apart from all other ramifications, Kanya is the Rashi of the archetypal virgin, indicating virginal purity. This is the reason for Venus being debilitated in this sign. If someone has Neecha Shukra here then the transit of Saturn will precipitate and bring the contrary effects of Virgo and Venus to a head.

DECIDING THE COURSE OF ACTION:

One can look to the Atmakaraka for this. Just for reference, this is in the context of the Upachaya writing under the main article head. One should do what the Atmakaraka indicates. If it is contrary to the Atmakaraka, and the Atmakaraka is well-placed in the Upachaya, then it will help life as Will. With Will.

I am asked quite often, as to when will the results of the Upaya come, for how long does one continue the remedial measures and the like. My answers vary from person to person and from horoscope to horoscope. But then the theme is this.

The theme is that the remedial measures given beautiful effects. All remedial measures. If the Dosha and Shrapa fulfil the criteria to lead the Jyotishi to give the prediction that the problems will be alleviated, then they work. One should do the remedies. What else is more worthwhile?

The results come, varying with horoscopic peculiarities.

Mantra Sadhana keeps working with the adverse Karma shown by the malefic planets and one day the shaft of light shines, to whatever degree and one is suddenly, clearly aware of a shift and a shift in tempo. The primary concern is not and should not be to isolate the precise timing of the fructification of the remedial measures, but the very fact that the remedies fructify and make life better.

Sometimes transits will reflect, sometimes Dashas, sometimes all factors that we use to work with these facets of the horoscope, that something has changed so much for the better.

THE NARAYANA KAVACHA:

The Narayana Kavach is very meaningful from the perspective of the Mantra Shastra as well. ‘Om Vishnave Namah’ is a Shadakshari Mantra which has the destination in the 6th Bhava from the Lagna and removes the Shadripu associated with the personality. It cleanses the mind for this reason.

The Dwadashakshari Vasudeva Mantra is Moksha oriented and ensures that we work with a clean heart and do not accumulate Vikarma so that final emancipation may be achieved. In other words, it protects our actions. The Ashtakshari Narayan Mantra likewise cleanses our sins and Nija Dosha deriving itself like the Shadakshari from Guru Upadesha. In this manner the body is protected from debilitating illness.

Guru indeed protects.

RETALIATION OF THE MALEFICS:

The malefic will not keep quiet at the performance of an elevated course of action. Yet, it is only the malefic that permits the choosing of the better course in a given nativity. Not every afflicted malefic will permit an effective thought such as this to accrue.

The malefic will retaliate with one of its significations. If counsel has been received that the intricacy is to resolve itself and new ground attained, then the course can be sustained.

What is aspired to could very well be glorious, due to the presence of another Graha or the culmination of the energies of a specific Yoga, perhaps involving the malefic itself. Therefore the energies could be focussed on the aspiration and the culmination to aid progress.

VERY USEFUL RULES:

The issue of timing in Jyotish is a quite important one as consulters often wish to know the time at which events shall happen. It should be understood that this is a difficult process. To assuage the difficulties there are some tools in Jyotish.

The main component of horoscopic dynamics is Dasha/ planetary periodicity. There are many Dasha systems in Jyotish but Parashara gave primacy to the Vimshottari Dasha amongst the Nakshatra Dashas, for good reason. The Dasha is very efficacious.

In any case, the Rules referred to in this Note have to do with Bhavas. Readers should carefully note that the Grahas in the Lagna and the 9th House tend to give their results, and of the Yogas that they might constitute, in the old age of the person.

The Grahas in the 2nd and 4th House of the chart give results early.

By necessary implication the 5th and the 6th House give their results in middle life.

Now, this is always conditioned by the Dashas and the age of maturity or effectivenss of the Grahas that might be posited in these Bhavas.

Extension has to be given to the 7th Bhava when we speak of the Lagna Bhava and the 3rd Bhava when we speak of the Rule as they form the relevant axes. Likewise for the 8th Bhava and the 10th Bhava, and lastly, for the 11th and 12th Bhavas in the same sequence of correspondance, respectively.

This can explain many events and occurrences in the horoscopes.

A QUESTION OR TWO:

Even a question or two on the same subject, posed to the astrologer, if the said questions are conspicuous, can be a clue to many things happening in the relevant horoscopes in question. This is on the lines of Nimitta in Prashna and is important.

MALEFICS

When we meditate on the nature and impact of malefics, we may do so in several ways. The most frequent amongst these is to consider the impact of the malefics in the horoscope, primarily the Rashi Chakra, and in broad based physical manifestation in life.

In other words, what are the malefics doing to us is an oft contemplated sentiment.

Sometimes when we think of doership as against things being done to us, the source of personal intelligence becomes focal in understanding the issue.

If there is planetary aspect of natural malefics on the Lagna, then the Will and desire partake of the malefic impact and the same shall fuse itself with the personal intelligence/ Will/ desire.

If there is sign aspect of the natural malefic (s) on the Lagna, then the manifestation is destined and circumstantial and things in that contingency do not stem from the personal intelligence. They just happen.

Likewise qua the Paka Lagna.

The difference between the evaluation from the Lagna on the one hand and the Paka Lagna on the other would be the quality of dynamics and personality in motion or the lack of it, as the case may be, depending on the reference. From the Paka Lagna there is greater ownership and therefore greater responsibility. If this is in Upachaya, then greater leeway to channel and to guide the manifestation will also accrue. This is very important thinking according to me.

ONE'S OWN HOROSCOPE:

The Jyotishi's thoughts must never be too far away from one's own radix. That Delphic Oracle: 'Know thyself' is a more useful device than appears at first sight.

The peculiar Yogas, on which important events may turn should also be noted and paid attention to for their static meaning. Yogas are always in action and sometimes the astrologer will realise only after an event. Even so, it is a very useful exercise.

Some Yogas will bring events from time to time, that can signal a shift in the nature of life. If the Jyotishi is careful and alert he will be connected to his own astrological source and this in turn makes him a whole, complete, fundamentally unfragmented entity as far as other people are concerned. His skills can then be put to more effective use.

This device is a very effective learning tool about one's own Self. It can lead to an increased capacity to make fine distinctions and also give appropriate, more sophisticated form to actions.

A Proposed Check-List for Vedic Horoscope Interpretation

At the time of evaluating a chart, the following schematic is one of the ways which might lead to a correct understanding of the horoscope:

Look at overarching Doshas or blemishes such as Kala Sarpa Yoga/ Kala Amrita Yoga, Amavasya Dosha, Chaturdashi Dosha, Ashtami birth, Graha Malika Yoga
Then evaluate the severe planetary afflictions, the Shrapas caused by the Yuti/ conjunction, Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect of two or more malefic planets
Judge the impact of the Saturn transit and that of the nodes, Rahu and Ketu
Evaluate the Vimshottari Dasha and the Padakrama Dasha/ Narayana Dasha
Evaluate the special conditional Dasha which may be applicable in the chart
Evaluate the Moola Dasha if the chart has been rectified to give the correct Shashthyamsha Lagna/ Ascendant in the D-60 chart to give insights about the accumulated Karma through the previous lifetimes, and the manifestation thereof, in terms of the Moola Dasha
Thoroughly study the Arudha Padas in the Rashi Chart
Thoroughly evaluate the Argala Chakra to determine the spehers of influence exercising interplay in the horoscope amidst various horoscopic entities
The Chara Karaka, especially the Atmakaraka (AK) has to be evaluated and the placements of the Grahas judged from the Karaka Lagna
In the context of the Atmakaraka planet, the placement in the Navamsha Chakra (the 9th Harmonic Chart) is of special importance as it reveals the command of the soul in any given incarnation (Karakamsha Lagna)
An evaluation of the divisional charts is important to bring forth realities relating to the various specific aspects of life such as career and marriage and spiritual pursuits
The annual charts must be studied to judge as to what the current year holds in store for the person; the Hindu Tithi Pravesh Chakra has proved to be an efficacious technique and the Tithi Ashtottari Dasha is well-applied here
It must be remembered that the planetary positions and combinations (Yogas) have to be gauged from all three of the Ascendant, Arudha Lagna (AL) and the Atmakaraka (AK) and here the concept of Argala becomes especially important
Remedial measures are the solution and mere diagnosis is not the end
With these matters looked into, the astrologer will get an in-depth idea about the life of the consulter and will be able to give comprehensive advice along with the essential remedial measures.

A GLIMPSE OF THE JUPITER MAHADASHA

|Nama Shivaya|
Nobody who has been allowed to glimpse the magic of Vedic astrology needs any proof of what planet can do and do.
Recent interactions with fellow students (teachers to others) once again refreshed the working of the planets in the mind, through their significations, signs and houses.
As one Dasha draws to a close, another gets set to commence. As Dashas change, things change, provided the planet ruling the Dasha is strong enough to give notable results.
I am in the mood to reminisce a bit. I am in the mood for something personal for a change, rather than compulsorily distant interpretations of others’ horoscopes.
The Jupiter Mahadasha that has been running for the past fourteen years is drawing to a close in another couple of years and this is a good time to jot down some thoughts.
One did not know of the existence of astrology properly in the preceding Rahu Mahadasha that occupied the Vimshottari Dasha framework for eighteen years prior to the current Mahadasha.
Since Jupiter aspects the Lagna with Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect, it brought many changes to the personality. Rahu and Guru are opposites in many ways and the deep Karmic desire to delve into matters governed by the natural significations of Jupiter seeped into everything in life. This is due to the retrogression of Jupiter and also the fact that Jupiter is in Sagittarius in the 5th House.
The accumulated Karma was such that it had an overwhelming bearing on all matters. Astrology, world myth and comparative religion and mythology (Vasudaiva Kutumbakam) became very attractive. Jupiter indicates a settled width and expansion, something calm and content, and exploring eternal truths. Retrograde Jupiter takes one though odd paths, through psychological frontiers, through inner worlds. It indicates intellectual discrimination and in retrogression gives an unusual, intuitive slant to the discerning mind. Its location from the other two references is also very important.
The other two references of location are the Arudha Lagna and the Atmakaraka. For any analysis, these three reference points are absolutely essential in order to come to a correct interpretation of the results of the planet. From the Arudha Lagna it is in the 2nd House and sustains the Arudha Lagna with its significations. Since it is in the 5th House, the application of mind and such other matters that might be divined from the 5th House help the Arudha to flourish.
From the Atmakaraka it is in the 8th House and shows transformations occurring at the soul level. This is not an easy placement but better than a 6th House or 11th House placement from the Atmakaraka. The Atmakaraka is in the 10th House being the Lagna Lord as well. Therefore the Mahadasha of Jupiter brings soul level transformations in the context of work and achievement. The soul has mandated a specific role to the planet and this has great say in the results of the Mahadasha.
Jupiter is the Karaka for wealth and this facet of life improves according to the strength of Jupiter in the chart, in its Dasha.
The 7th House from the Arudha Lagna is much stronger than the Arudha Lagna itself and so at some point while crossing through the doorway to the world the Arudha Lagna will functionally move to the 7th from the original Arudha Lagna. This happens to be the 10th House again. Thus the image will change and end up being rooted in work and the profession. Therefore Jupiter comes to the 8th House from the Arudha Lagna as well. This is a good placement and loans, positive changes will occur and may be said to have occurred.
A retrograde planet is strong but its strength is indicated also in the amount of effort required to be put in, which is three times the normal effort required. Jupiter is exalted and retrograde in the Navamsha Chakra in Gajakesari Yoga in the 3rd House. It can indicate strong ideals but in some manner the value system is not simple. Writing can be a source of expression for the inner self as the combination is in the 3rd House from the Lagna.
Jupiter is the lord of the Upapada Lagna in the Rashi Chakra but its retrogression coupled with the fact that the Upapada Lagna is in the 8th House from the Lagna delays this personal event. Of course confluence to indicate an event will always present itself and the combustion of the 7th Lord Saturn in the 10th House along with some other factors also points to the same result.
Jupiter is in Pisces in the 6th House in the Dashamsha Chakra/ D-10 chart and strongly indicates daily work which will once again require massive effort. Effort is also indicates in the fact that the planet aspects the 2nd House from the Sun (the resources of the world).
Jupiter in Sagittarius is in its Moolatrikona and at work. You can say that again!
The entire worldview changes in such a planetary period. Jupiter represents divinity in any horoscope and one can say with ease that the divine presence has been felt on many occasions even living the noisy, fully participatory life of the current era.

THE POWER OF MANTRA & PRAYER:

Remedial measures are often considered a hallmark of superstition. While the practices surrounding the prescription and performance of remedial measures may be fraught with problems, like all of Jyotish, a classical approach stands to yield great dividends and relief.

Upaya are perhaps the most important part of Jyotish because merely diagnosing an issue is not enough and its redressal is infact the most important thing. Apart from this, when Jyotish is considered as a system to chart out the progress of a person through life, or through a given phase in life, remedial measures can help in this process by attempting to alleviate those factors which impede.

Prior to alleviation, a recognition of the factors that might be adverse in the horoscope is also very important because sometimes influences can impede the proper understanding of the problem or even a proper appreciation of the existence of the problem itself.

Persons may be caught up in a bubble, so to speak, identifying themselves with stubborn characteristics and/ or circumstances that might present themselves in life.

Based on certain rules in horoscopy, it can be determined as to what sort of remedial measures require to the advised and performed and what might be their chances at remedying the real-life situation.

People should choose their astrologer with care, as far as choice might influence the decision in given cases, for this is a sensitive area and people tend to be very keen to rid themselves of the problems that trouble them, and rightly so. This keenness, and need is to be addressed by one who is capable of helping with a clean heart.

When the planets (read Karma) begin to yield, it is a very positive development in life.

JAPAN: THE TSUNAMI OF MARCH 11, 2011

Japan: A weakened Prithvi Tattwa, with Mercury debilitated in Pisces and massively afflicted by the sign aspects of Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, led to the major earthquake. Saving graces will emerge due to the conjunction of Jupiter with Mercury, the lord of the latter's debility: better foreign relations, some selfless aid and help (Pisces is the 12th House of the natural zodiac).

Annual Chart Analysis Or Tithi Pravesh Chakra

Transits in November 2010

DOING THE RIGHT THING

It can suit some persons tremendously. If it does, there is little reason why it should not be done, and done consistently. Also to be noted, 'Not Doing the Right Thing', a result of malefics, or afflicted planets or both. Malefic things are tainted with malefic experience. This will be true even if they promise and deliver other things. What benefics deliver is qualified by benefic experience. This will be true even if the experience is not heady or extreme.

Malefics have a relatively positive side too and since malefics are a part of, and outweigh benefics, in life there is nothing to be done about their existence and of the existence of their significations.

Life is not easy.

Life is something to be pondered over and worked with.

Life is about Karma.

QUALITY OF TIME

The Panchanga illustrates the quality of time and though this is thought of as being applicable only to the Muhurta queries, this is a preliminary step in all horoscope interpretation. In other words the Panchanga is to be studied for the natal chart analysis.

Now, specifically there are two components of the Panchanga that I wish to speak of in this musing segment: the Vara and the Hora. The Vara of course is a dominant entity showing the ruling Graha of the day. Using the principle of natural significators/ Naisargika Karaka, one may choose activities based on the significations of the ruler of the Vedic weekday.

The other is the Hora or the hour. In these complex times, a variety of activities occur during the course of a day. Due to this the appropriate Hora may be chosen for an activity based on the lord of the Hora.

In this context the Gayatri and their basic tenets are also very important to know the dominant themes associated with a given Gayatri.

Mangal/ Mars and Shani/ Saturn in November, 2011: Altering the transit scenario

People have felt and are going to feel numerous changes in life due to the altered transit positions of crucial planets, Mangal/ Mars from Karkata/ Cancer to Simha/ Leo, and Shani/ Saturn from Kanya/ Virgo to Tula/ Libra in November, 2011.

Mangal has been Neecha/ debilitated in Karkata Rashi/ Cancer and there was a Tattwa/ elemental conflict during that transit due to the fact that Mangal is an Agni Tattwa Graha or a planet with fiery element while Karkata/ Cancer is a water sign.

Mangal’s fire was sought to be doused by the water in Karkata and the water of Karkata was simmering due to the fire of Mangal leading to repressed anger, irritability and a general loss of verve. Mangal is the strength of the Kalapurusha and its debility had sapped people of the strength and initiative to act which comes from Mangal.

Apart from certain combinations where the debility of the malefic Yogakaraka can be a good thing, this was a bad transit for the fiery planet which brought some of its more challenging significations to the fore or made its significations challenging.

Shani in Kanya qualifies as Deva Dosha because this is the *worst* planet for the Kanya Lagna/ Virgo Ascendant. This dubious distinction is granted the Graha because of the purity-impurity imbroglio but that may be at a slight tangent to the subject of this note and we might want to leave it for later.

However, the sojourn of Shani through Kanya also brought this imbroglio of purity-impurity to the fore and several instances would be fresh in the public mind.

Nativities with a dominant Kanya/ Virgo in the horoscope could have suffered issues with digestion and Vata Dosha. Official communications and places such as gardens also would have tended to dry up and fall into a state of disarray. New Delhi, India, for instance is governed by Kanya Rashi/ Virgo, and there were issues such as bomb blasts which happened during this Gochar of the Karmic Graha in the capital of India.

Now, Mangal in Simha/ Leo is much happier as this is the Rashi of Ravi/ the Sun which is a friend of Mangal. Here Mangal has an opportunity to assert its leadership since it is an Agni Tattwa Graha embodying the quality of forthrightness and initiative, not least due to its lordship of Mesha Rashi/ Aries which is the head of the Kalapurusha/ first house of the natural zodiac. Mangal brings sharp logical acumen to the thought process and being the overlord of the Bhu-Loka also aspires for victory and status through the quality of competition.

Shani, on the other hand is going to be exalted in Tula Rashi/ Libra which is the 7th Bhava of the natural zodiac and indicates marriage and relationships and basically desires in general. Shani finds great happiness here since the promise is that Shukra/ Venus in this Rashi will grant him all that lacks and this pleases Shani. The positive qualities of Shani such as hard work and persistence will find greater balance here since Tula is symbolised by a balance. There may be a conflict in the Rashi as to whether the human sentiment prevails or the cold calculation of the marketplace holds sway but these are extraneous to the movement of the planet Shani here.

Shani, the karaka of testing times, pain, exclusion and suffering will be at its most positive and if the Graha is well placed from the Lagna, Arudha Lagna, Chandra and such reference points, then this could be a good transit for such natives. Those involves with business and professions related to Tula can benefit if the overall conditions as stipulated above read together with the standard rules on the subject are complied with. The location and movement of Shani can very broadly be understood as either the significant presence or absence of suffering. A positive Shani can lead to industriousness, hard work, persistence, adherence to tradition and such matters.

Baba Ramdev and Jyotish/ Vedic Astrology

Baba Ramdev once criticised Jyotish as being an unfounded art or belief system.

One only needs to study the nature of the transit Moon at the time of the fiasco of his ill-advised political initiative.

The transit Moon is eclipsed by Ketu taking away all elements of genuine social connection and compassion. In the Vara Chakra this is the worst type of Yoga with Ketu being the 8th planet from the Moon. This was a campaign with an edge of latent violence (Ketu) and it is a good thing it did not erupt from the masses.

Debilitated Rahu aspects the Moon both with Rashi Drishti (sign aspect) and planetary aspect (Graha Drishti) showing circumstances that indicate fallen political aspirations and machinations (Rahu). It also shows complete calculation and prior planning to influence the masses through the planetary aspect of Rahu to the Moon showing desire to lead the masses in a specific direction.

Saturn (Shani) also aspects the Moon and the nodes with both sign aspect and planetary aspect. There is a lot of impurity while seemingly espousing the cause of the poor and the underprivileged (Shani) as the Graha is in Virgo and this is the entire foundation of the exercise as Shani is retrograde. The poor and the common man pinned their hopes on this political initiative.

Another crucial facet which might not be ignored is the fact that Gemini/ Mithun is the exaltation sign of the planet Rahu which in its most conventionally positive aspects leads to political aspirations and is capable of giving the crown as it pictorially and mythically depicts the head, which bears the crown. The Mithun/ Gemini-Dhanu/ Sagittarius axis has massive significance in Indian polity with nearly each Prime Minister of the country having strong planets in this axis and the deep impact of the political Rahu on the Amatyakaraka (AmK) or other features of the horoscope directly linked to work and Karma.

These are all pointers to the misplaced ambition of the seemingly spiritual-Yogic march to attack corruption.

The police action was prompt and correct as Mars is strong in Aries/ Mesha and was guided by the correct liberal values shown by Shani. The illusion broke once the Moon moved to Cancer/ Karka and everyone went home (Cancer) including the Baba.

Also, justice can begin at home (Karka) and the Graha Drishti of Mars/ Mangal to Cancer/ Karka ensured that the Enforcement Directorate/ ED and other agencies would investigate the tax realities and fund sourcing (Jupiter) of the Baba, the two planets referred to being joined together in the dynamic Aries where the Sun (Dharma) is exalted.

Lunar Eclipse/ Chandra Grahan on 15th June, 2011

The Rashi Chart for the Lunar Eclipse on 15th June, 2011 is given below:

The Moon represents the mind and the emotional experiences of the individual. It also represents society and the interaction of people with society. At the level of the individual human being, it shows how we perceive phenomena, how stimuli from the external environment come through to the person and also how the person reacts. The Moon also governs the mother and mental experiences that come from the mother.

The Moon/ Chandra is debilitated at this time in Scorpio/ Vrishchik. This is the 8th sign of the natural zodiac and contains the potential for changes, transformations, difficulties, hidden things, esoteric arts, occult practices and research. The 8th House is the Marana Karaka Sthana for the gentle, impressionable Moon. The 8th House of the natural zodiac, and thus the sign in question, harbours a secretive, intense energy which debilitates the Moon and makes it wilt.

The sign is governed by Ketu and the Moon, ruling the occult and spiritual facets and energy. This sign is capable of great, seething anger and violence due to its malefic nature and lordship. Rahu’s recent entry into this sign infuses the devious and a diabolical into human affairs. There is a lot of scheming and planning going on at this juncture and apart from its debility, the Moon and thus the human mind is seized by the intense Karmic energy of Rahu.

Minds would also be nursing intense secret ambitions at this time.

The Rahu-Moon combination is also aspected by planetary aspect (Graha Drishti) by two other natural malefics, Sun (Ravi) and Mars (Mangal) from Taurus. Venus also aspects the Moon from a position of strength.

It is important for us to watch our emotions at this time as the Moon is under severe pressure and this is an ideal time to transform ourselves and comes to an understanding of our emotional personalities at a deep, internal level. The aspect of Venus forms Rudra Yoga, just as the aspect of Mars also forms the Rudra Yoga. While such combinations are excellent from the viewpoint of wealth, they can trigger health and blood related problems apart from emotional and psychological trauma. If one lives and acts from a place of depth (Scorpio) and appreciates the impact of various energies such as ambitions and negative events impacting life by turn, the allure of beauty and its driving role in life, and the importance of power and leadership (Ravi/ Sun), as well as drive, energy and initiative (Mangal/ Mars), then the Karmic initiation of the lunar eclipse has much to offer us.

Shani/ Saturn also aspects the Moon from its recently acquired direct Motion in Kanya (Virgo). Paper on Direct Motion of Saturn in June, 2011

New beginnings after an eclipse can come enriched with the understanding of wide and varied aspects of life, viewed through the prism of the mind, as evidenced by the influences on the Moon during the eclipse.

Shani/ Saturn Direct from June 13, 2011

There is speculation about the impact of Shani/ Saturn turning direct.

Saturn/ Shani in Libra/ Tula: A Previous Paper on the Forthcoming Transit of Saturn

Shani is in Kanya Rashi/ Virgo at the present time and this has been a time of churning up of impurities in the masses and mass leaders. This has been heightened and exacerbated due to the retrogression of the planet Saturn in the sign.

A retrograde planet yields its significations with triple the force, impact and efficacy.

In the case of benefic planets, the retrogression hones the internal attributes of the planet to a fine point. If the planet is favourable at the functional level as well, then the impact comes as a series of conventionally positive events in the areas associated with the planet.

Delay still accrues as the phenomenon of retrogression slows things down so that the lessons associated with the planet are learnt well. Such a planet is considered quite strong and has a lot of energy to make effort. Efforts are requisite because matters related to retrograde planets do not manifest easily. Finesse and perfection are required before this happens.

With malefic planets, this strength and delay becomes onerous for obvious reasons. The word ‘relentless’ is a better indicator of how things transpire in such a scenario.

With a malefic planet like Saturn, this translates into trials, tests and overall slowness. Saturn is the dispenser of Karma and shows our weaknesses and lapses. We are punished in the areas we lack so that those lapses are transformed into strengths.

During its period of retrogression, Saturn has examined the conduct of the persons under the scanner by making everything come to a near stand-still. If the lessons are not learnt and if the Karma being felt by a nativity is onerous then the direct motion can be very testing because Saturn (our adverse Karma) will begin to act with greater relative speed.

For others, who are not going through alarming times and the Karma manifesting is not onerous, the direct motion will be much easier and better as a direct malefic, generally speaking is much better than a retrograde one.

If such people in the last stated category faced testing and unusual (Vakra. crooked/ retrograde) experiences in matters related to Saturn during the retrograde motion, then with the direct motion such avenues will show a marked improvement and positive fructification.

<media:rating>nonadult</media:rating>
