For 2009, Yamaha reinvents its Nytro with an extended track version that offers vastly improved ride and handling. Wisely, the power train remains virtually the same.

The facts are simple. Sitting under the steering post of the virtually all-new Nytro XTX, you'll find the same fuel-injected Yamaha Genesis 130 as last year. Expect smoother running and even quicker response as Yamaha engineering has had a full season of fine-tuning this snowmobile-specific triple. The drive system reflects updated tuning refinements to match the power delivery to an all-new extended chassis and track dynamic. Gone is the 121-inch Rip Saw track, replaced by a longer 144-incher with the same

1.25-inch height lugs.

On trail with the 144

In an on-trail riding comparison of the new Nytro XTX with the "144" track and a 2008 specification Nytro with '121' Camoplast Rip Saw, the new XTX definitely seemed to like delivering power better through the longer track. While you can still get track spin on the 144 when you slam the throttle flipper from half to full throttle, the extended track length provides better on-trail control. The shorter track would spin and torque to the side more like a car's tires on ice when you floor the gas pedal. The other advantage of the longer track comes in the 'bridging' effect you get over stutter bumps and increased flotation when breaking trail in fresh powder.
The upgrade from 121 to 144-inch track blows right past the use of the 136-inch track found in the LTX versions of both the Apex and Vector. The reason for the longer track lies in the new XTX sled's closer relationship with th

e mountain Nytro than the trail Nytro. Still, the 144-inch track is shorter than the Nytro MTX's 153-inch deep powder track setup.

Why did Yamaha settle on the 144? Primarily because the sled's designers felt that they could devise a new rear suspension that would provide the handling attributes of a 121 on groomed trails, the bridging comfort ability of a 136 and the added deep snow float of a 144. To gain this combination required a major rethinking of the hybrid sled's suspension. That's why you'll find what Yamaha refers to as the XTX's "...aggressive 6-degree rear tip-up on the rails." The footprint on hard-packed groomed trails will be that of a 121-inch tracked sled, meaning you feel the sporty cornering characteristics you'd expect from the 2008 Nytro. In reality, we liked the new Nytro XTX better than the old short-track version. However, there's more to all of it than a revised rear end.

Up front counts

In our opinion, the XTX shows enhanced cornering due to a redesign of the front suspension. The rear end is also an improvement. However, the concept of tip-up slide rails is not new. Polaris has been there in the past and Arctic Cat has used a tipped up rail on some touring and utility sleds. The advantage is real and you will recognize it, especially when you use reverse and the track doesn't mire itself into the snow. No, for us, the real advantage to the XTX over the previous Nytro is up front. Think of this sled as what it is - a totally new platform for a very potent existing power system. Yamaha does not so much obsolete the 2008 Nytro as it creates a whole new level of sports performance with a new tunnel and chassis. Still aluminum, the 2009 tunnel flips up at the back a full 11-degrees to give vastly improved powder capability. That's why we say the XTX has more in common with the mountain Nytro than the 2008 base model. There are more and larger holes in the runningboards that not only allow better snow evacuation when riding off trail, but add improved bite for your boots to keep you in contact with the XTX.

That new front end borrows from the snocross world and settles the sled way better than previous Nytro front designs. Yamaha claims that the new front end slows down the steering. Is that an admission that last year's Nytro was extremely nervous when pushed hard in the corners? Whatever. The new design feels lower and more responsive due to added trail and revised caster angles. The new front end relies on Yamaha's own GYTR dual clicker shocks which we've found to be easy to adjust on trail. There are 12 compression settings and 20 rebound adjustments, meaning that it is critical that owners read the setup manual. You'll find a set of high-pressure gas shocks in the rear suspension: a 40mm remote reservoir shock with compression 'clicker' on the front arm combined with an aluminum-bodied HPG rear shock.

New and improved

We found the XTX a great improvement over the previous Nytro. The handlebar set fits the rider better with its one-piece design incorporating curved bar ends. The bar sits taller and combined with the upgraded front suspension you have better leverage and, thus, better control on the trail. The XTX expands the concept of rider-forward positioning first seen on the Apex series. While borrowing from snocross, the XTX gives an immediacy desired in the deepest powder of the mountains. You sit on a new and narrower sculpted seat that has you nearly upright so you can rise quickly to react to changing terrain if you go off trail. For trail riders, you can more quickly rise to meet those bad ditch moguls and for groomed riders you can move side to side more easily to time quick twists in the trail.
With all that's new about the XTX, Yamaha surprisingly said little about weight. Comparing the published specifications for the new XTX we find a claimed weight of 542-pounds. That's more than 20-pounds greater than last season's Nytro RTX with reverse and about the same as a 2008 Nytro MTX (5

Yamaha's best ever 4-stroke powers the Venture GT

Last year Yamaha brought out its all-new Venture GT as the company’s top of the line-touring machine. While it was all new, what we liked was how Yamaha engineering blended together proven pieces from its existing rider-forward models with a more sophisticated drive train to create a truly gifted luxury-touring sled. Because it was new last season and since sales of all sleds have been soft in general, you’ll find that the 2010 Yamaha Venture GT is virtually unchanged from the past year’s version. Well… there is the new graphics package for 2010 that brings a choice of Yamaha Black or Candy Red to potential buyers.
Keep in mind that the Venture GT didn’t rock anyone’s world last season as the company’s introductory marketing spiel took a back seat to the more hyped and much better selling XTX crossover model. Admittedly the market for luxury touring models can’t compare to hot rod models, whose ownership is certainly more vocal than the touring crowd
We would state quite simply that Yamaha has done a disservice to its Venture GT, which is actually

quite amazing when you consider its various pieces. Most obvious is its engine, which is now shared with some Vector models. The three-cylinder, electronically controlled fuel injected motor can be considered to be one of Yamaha’s best ever. Yeah, yeah, we know everyone gets hung up on Yamaha’s Nitro triple with its hard-hitting torque and testosterone-exciting rumble, but the Genesis 120FI can be construed to be a better power source as it’s incredibly well suited for more realistic snowmobiling. It is what the Nitro motor would be if realism directed marketing instead of copy-writing hype that promotes bold adjectives attached to macho nouns. Available in basic black, the Venture GT makes for a smooth solo touring ride.

Real World Motor

The reality of the Genesis 120FI remains that it is truly more versatile than the Nitro triple upon which it is based. If you could test ride the two sleds side by side, you’d find the throttle engagement of the Venture GT power plant to be more predictable. Sure, you won’t get the big kick of a sudden gulp of fuel exploding in the cylinders and firing a power pulse to kick you back to the end of the Nitro’s saddle. If you want that, use a little Armor-all to grease your seat. What you will get from the less radically tuned Genesis 1210FI is a steady pulse of power that builds and holds torque to react quickly in bumps, pulling through fresh powder or grabbing speed out of a turn. The Venture GT engine feels less sporty than the herky-jerky Nitro motor, but we’d bet if the Genesis 120FI were the standard motor in the Nitro series, riders would find themselves enjoying the Nitro more.
Let’s not fault Yamaha; the company knows its customers. The Nitro rider wants the “feel” of performance, which means he wants to get his arms yanked and he wants to feel the skis come up when he hits the throttle. He feels that makes him a sporty rider. Okay.
As a staid luxury-touring rider, we know that Yamaha put one of its best all-time engines in the Venture GT. As noted, the Genesis 120FI belies its heritage with that “120” nomenclature, which leads you to think that it’s simply a fuel-injected version of the old carbureted 120-horsepower triple that can be found in the base Venture and, for now, in the base Vector. It’s not.
What you are getting is a new engine based on the 1049cc Nitro triple, not on the older 973cc Genesis 120 engine. While it bears a strong resemblance to the slightly more powerful rough trail sport power plant, this Venture GT motor comes tuned specifically for the touring sled. necessary for smooth drive offs with the added weight of a passenger. You get very good low end with excellent midrange performance. Top end is okay, but high speed running is not a premium consideration in a touring sled. What you will have is a sled powered to run at legal trail speeds all day long, all weekend long. The Venture GT’s power delivery is one consideration for Yamaha’s top line touring sled.

Touring Mode

With power tuned for touring, you’ll find Yamaha understands the other criteria for making a market leading luxury-touring machine. Ride comfort has to be as important a consideration as power delivery. Here again we can point out how Yamaha blends its chassis configurations together to create both a top line touring machine and a top line sports sled. The 2010 Venture GT gets the upgraded rider-forward Deltabox II chassis used in the latest iterations of the Apex and Vector models. be dropped lower in the engine bay to create better overall handling and cornering characteristics.
With the chassis change comes the ability to use Yamaha’s second-generation independent front suspension with up to nine inches of front-end travel. Controlled by 40mm GYTR dual-clicker shocks, the Venture GT suspension design affords very precise and consistent steering.
For passenger ride comfort, Yamaha retains the polished ProComfort CK 144 rear suspension with its use of aluminum-bodied, 40mm high-pressure gas shocks. There’s more than a foot of suspension travel available. Of course, the rear passenger gets the benefit of the king-queen seating which uses added comfort foam to keep the passenger properly positioned behind the driver. Heated handgrips on the passenger rests and raised footrests add to overall passenger enjoyment on long tours. Both riders derive the benefits of the tall and wide windshield.
The Venture GT rides on a 15-inch by 144-inch track with 1.25-inch lug profile for added traction in both groomed and fresh powder conditions.

Touring Fare

Standard equipment includes Yamaha’s easy-to-read digital gauge with LCD readouts, dual-piston hydraulic brake, standard DC outlet and backrest. When you consider the fuel efficiency of the Genesis 120FI triple, you see that the standard 9.4 US gallon fuel tank is quite generous.
Over the seasons we have found Yamaha touring sleds to be not simply efficient, but extremely well thought out as to their intended function. Perhaps not as “trick” in gadgets as Ski-Doo’s top line touring sleds, we’d bet the US$11,299 Yamaha Venture GT will perform exceptionally well on long distance tours and be one of the most trouble-free and durable over the long haul of many seasons. Yamaha has an excellent reputation for durability and we figure the Venture GT will raise that reputation and exceed ownership expectations. All the pieces from the new engine to the addition of the rider-forward chassis fit together for a very bright future.

Japanese automaker Honda is rapidly gaining grounds in India either on its own or through its joint venture and has replaced incumbent TVS Motor from third spot in motorcycles category

Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (Pvt) Ltd (HMSI), a unit of Japanese Honda Motor Co Ltd, has emerged as the third largest motorcycle seller in the country, replacing TVS Motor Co Ltd. The only thing that saved TVS Motor from losing its third position in overall two-wheeler ranking is mopeds, where no other company has a presence at the moment.

During April, HMSI sold 58,041 units in the motorcycle category compared with TVS Motor's 49,008 units. Similarly, in scooters, HMSI, the current leader, surged ahead with 71,477 units while TVS Motor sold 25,159 units. In the mopeds category, TVS Motor sold 51,829 units compared with 40,915 units a year ago.

However, in the scooters category, HMSI is still feeling the effects of last year's workers strike and has an active waiting list. This probably has given newcomers such as Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd and Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd, a chance to increase sales. During April, Mahindra Two Wheelers reported total scooter sales of 9,009 units from 1,609 units while Suzuki Motorcycle sold 19,893 units of scooters compared with 8,129 units a year ago.

Earlier, while speaking with reporters, Shinji Aoyama, president and chief executive, HMSI, said that the company expects to keep its leadership in scooters but want to expand in motorcycles and by FY12 sees motorcycles sales exceeding scooters. He said until HMSI's new plant starts production, there is a limitation on production of scooters.

With an aim to penetrate the scooters market further, TVS Motor launched ‘TVS Wego’, its new 110cc scooter, in Pune and Nagpur. Over the next two months, the metal-bodied scooter with unisex styling will be made available across the country.

Hero Honda Motors Ltd, in which Honda Motors holds 26% stake, continued its leadership position in the overall two-wheeler category, despite a marginal decrease in April due to supply side constraints. Due to a shortage of batteries, the company could not dispatch about 50,000 units during April and expects the problem to be sorted out by second week of May. Bajaj Auto Ltd also maintained its second spot with robust motorcycle sales. Bajaj Auto's motorcycle sales grew 84.4% led by variants of its popular ‘Pulsar’ and ‘Discover’ brands.

While Honda is gaining ground rapidly in India either on its own or through its joint venture, the other Japanese automaker Suzuki is finding it difficult to make inroads in two-wheelers despite a strong brand image. The company's unit, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is the country's largest carmaker. While Suzuki Motorcycle reported higher sales in the scooters category, in the motorcycles category, its sales tumbled over 65% to 1,834 units from 5,356 units, in the same month last year.

"Automobile sales continued to remain upbeat in April 2010 on a year-on-year basis on account of a low base of the corresponding month of the last year and the prevailing healthy demand environment. However, the automobile companies, except for Bajaj Auto, failed to log in a sequential sales growth compared to March 2010 mainly due to a marginal slowdown that traditionally happens in April of every year," said Sharekhan Ltd in a note.

After sales declined by about 89% during FY10, electric two-wheelers failed to get a single customer in April 2010, raising questions about their future.

without giving any second thought this is the best street bike on road.. not only in India but internationally.. people not acknoledging this bike must go for mopeds and should not even dream of bikes.

I have booked the bike in Panache Enterprises, Indiranagar,Bangalore with Rs.10,000 advance. the dealer said that the on road price in bangalore would be 70 to 75K and the bike comes with 153.6 cc engine. he don’t know anything about fuel efficency. the bike would be launched in bangalore on 18th Sept. Initially the bike comes in 2 colours i.e red & balck.

Guyz, I visited the showroom and checked out the vitals.. no test ride is offered yet though! Looks are great- engine specs by far beat the best in the sector- front fork(suspension) look much stronger than normal- Radial rear adds to the mochoness and safety- Center mass design really shows- Plastic casing around the fuel tank looks good but i donno how is the paint on plastic going to appear after a while-Sitting position is comfortable though with almost straight(horizontal) handle bar- Two things to look for …

Yamaha YFZ-R6

The Yamaha YZF-R6 was introduced in 1999 as the super sport version of Yamaha's Yamaha YZF-RI super bike, and as a companion to the more street-oriented Yamaha YZF600R sport bike which continued to be sold alongside the R6. The motorcycle featured Yamaha's completely new engine design capable of producing over 108 hp (81 kW) while stationary. The R6 was the world's first 600cc production four-stroke motorcycle producing over 100 hp (75 kW) in stock form.

The YZF-R6 has been revised several times since its introduction. Starting with the 2003 model, the R6 became fuel-injected. The 2006 model year was a significant upgrade with a new engine management system featuring the Ycc-T fly-by wite throttle and a multi-plate slipper clutch. The 2008 model incorporated the ycc arable-length intake system to optimize power at high engine rpm and an improved Deltaox ame dsign.

In 2006, Yamaha advertised that the R6 had a redline of17500 rpm. This is 2000 rpm higher than the previous R6 model and was the highest tachometer redline of any 2006 production four-stroke motorcycle engine.

It was widely reported that the 2006 YZF-R6's motor did not actually have this engine rpm redline level and was closer to around 16,200 rpm, but because of a deliberate tachometer error of about 8%, it read 17,500 rpm on the tachometer. In February 2006, Yamaha admitted the bike's true engine redline was more than 1,000 rpm lower than displayed on the tachometer than advertised, and offered to buy back any R6 if the customer was unhappy.

The Yamaha FZ16 has been a highly awaited bike and is a very important bike for Yamaha. We thought reviewing the FZ16 is as important as reviewing a new Maruti car, so we did not delay in getting our hands on the Yamaha FZ16

To start off this bike has striking presence. The looks of this bike will be a major reason for its success. We all know that the Pulsar 150 isint as great a bike as its sales figure suggests, its engine is not as refined either compared to the Unicorn but it does sell and how! One of the main reasons for the Pulsar 150 to sell so well is, it looks the part and the FZ16 makes the Pulsar look like a bike from last generation. After looking at the FZ16, i can confidently say that the bike is Definitely Male.

Just like the Yamaha R15, the FZ16 has been wind tunnel tested for better aerodynamics. The engine is air cooled and uses a carburetor. A FI version would have made this bike really more desirable but then Yamaha had to price it sanely too. However the bike does ride pretty well.

There is good amount of low end grunt, something which is missing in the R15. Though power of 14PS doesn’t speak much, its the torque which is worth talking about. 13.6NM @ 6000 RPM means this bike pulls very well from any RPM. There is very good throttle response and the bike will nudge 120kmph which is the norm in the 150cc segment. Yamaha claim an unrealistic mileage of 50kmpl. Expect 40kmpl under normal riding conditions

We really didn’t like the instrumentation on the FZ16. The tacho needle is small and makes it difficult to read. Otherwise too the instrument cluster is a wee bit small for our liking and for a bike which looks so big and butch, i really don’t know why Yamaha compromised on better instrumentation. The bike also has no kick start (ala Pulsar 220), similar fuel tank capacity as the R15 (12 liters) and weighs just 127 kegs (dry)

To sum up the FZ16 is a fantastic machine, it is worth the money and is certainly our pick in the 150cc segment. However Yamaha could have made it better, all those fat tires and forks need a bigger engine, perhaps a FZ20 should be launched by Yamaha to quench the performance hunger in us.

Ahead of Pulsar 135cc launch on December 09, pictures of pulsar started floating across. A Bajaj Pulsar fan club called bajajpulsar org has posted pictures of the Bajaj pulsar 135cc. From the pictures, pulsar 135cc looks like a fusion of Bajaj XCD sprint (shown at 2008 auto expo) and pulsar 200cc. The styling of this bike is radical with trapezoidal headlamps. The rear muffler and rear number plate are also distinctly styled to resemble larger displacement sports bikes. However, the chain unit is closed one unlike we open chain arrangement in few Bajaj bikes. Pulsar 135cc is powered by 135cc DTS-Si engine which already powers XCD 135cc and develops 10bhp of max power at 7500 rpm. It pumps out 11.58Nm of peak torque at 5000rpm and the engine is mated with a four speed gearbox. Similar to other Bajaj motorcycles, Pulsar 135cc comes packed with list of features. LED tail lamps, gas charged rear suspension, digital instrumentation, split seats, clip-on handlebar,alloy wheels, handlebar weights and spilit grab rail.

I have bought this bike a month ago. I have completed my first service last week. I could get a mileage of 62 in city traffic. The Bike is awesome to ride and overall its nice.

*** Never compare Pulsar 150 with this 135. Try comparing with the same segment/CC bikes. For eg,It wont make sense if you compare a TVS 50 and a Splender.

hey guys
i have used both pulsar 150cc and i bought 135cc 12 days back. this version of 135cc overtakes 150cc by means of power and torque. the mileage is great and the best thing in this bike is the quick acceleration created by world’s first 4valve engine. it is very comfortable while riding. those who r having 150cc they will regret coz dis one is an amazing bike.

By the time Dhoom-3 is produced atleast the producer will not have to import bikes. Cruise bikes are ready in India itself! Bajaj has launched the Pulsar 200cc and Hero Honda has come up with face lifted Karizma. Thanks to the India’s growth story, manufacturers have come up with modern bikes that can be comparable to any international bike. When you watch Dhoom 3 don’t get surprised if Hrithik is on the Karizma and Abishek is on the Pulsar 200cc.
Here is the detailed comparison of these two amazing bikes.

Engine and Transmission:

Pulsar 200cc features India’s first oil cooled engine which delivers a maximum power of 18Ps@8000rpm making it most powerful engine offered by Bajaj. It’s an air cooled single-cylinder with an alloy barrel and head as well as twin valves. Oil cooler placed just below the fuel tank helps in further cooling of engine lubricant and keep the large 198.8cc motor cool. Digital twin spark ignition (DTS-i) and torque expansion chamber — ExhausTEC ensures the pulsar to provide sufficient levels of torque at low engine rpm levels and is optimized to provide torque distribution in the mid and higher range rpm levels. Pulsar 200cc features a five speed gearbox with one down and four up pattern.

For the face lifted Karizma the engine remains the same. Karizma scores over the pulsar when comes to torque, the bigger engine provides a healthy 18.35Nm@6000rpm against the pulsar’s 17.17Nm. The progressive feel, multi-plate wet-type clutch and the smooth five-speed gearbox are again the same as in the previous version.

Pulsar 200cc clocks a top speed of 121kph against the 125kph offered by Karizma 223cc. Pulsar 200cc is not quicker as Karizma 223cc and it cruises to 60kph from rest in 4.73 seconds. The pulsar 200cc offers an impressive mileage of 38.3kpl in city and 42.4kpl in highway against the Karizma offers only 30kpl in city and a decent figure of 45kpl in highway. Performance figures are taken from autocar India.

Design:

When comes to cruiser bikes power and style is the deciding factor but with proven engines style occupies the centre stage. The two bikes derive their styling from their previous version and have added some interesting features. Pulsar 200cc derives its identity from 180 and 150. Bajaj’s new additions in Pulsar 200cc are
*Black paint theme carried over to the front fork legs, the rear shock absorbers, and the swing arm, in addition to the engine and six spoke alloy rims, for deadly looks.
* A lowered Headlamp/Fairing assembly along with a high tail-end, giving it an aggressive, ready to pounce stance.
* An all Stainless Steel silencer with an aluminium muffler can for genuine sporty looks and long life.
* Sleek, Twin row, Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) derived from the upgraded pulsar 180cc along the split grab rail perfectly compliments the new rear chiseled looks.

I have seen many Bikers love to alter their Pulsar 150cc, 180cc and other bikes with modern diffuser, more powerful horns, replacing rear tyres with bigger tyres, raising the rear suspension to give a racing look and exposing the drive train which demands higher price . For those relief comes in the form of pulsar 200cc Bajaj has offered some of these as standard features

* It’s the first bike in India to feature both front and rear tubeless tyres, which besides offering superior stability are safer than conventional tube types and in sync with the offerings abroad for similar applications. The rear tyre is the broadest in its category to ensure better road grip and stability. Another first is the use of split seats in pulsar 200cc for styling and comfort.

New Karizma strikes the Bajaj 200cc with the following additions

*an attractive new logo, which represents the bike’s cutting edge imagery of being racy.
*International styling graphics with a pronounced `R’ on the tank and an asymmetrical one on the visor in keeping with the latest international trend.
*New sporty under-cowl, which makes the bike look more powerful and mean.
*Matt-axis grey coat for the engine, which makes it look very rugged.
*The other notable features in the bike are the red-coloured springs in rear suspensions and stylish fender with new graphics
A special edition version of New Karizma, which has a set of racy-red mag wheels and a dual tone finish for exhaust pipe, makes it one of the most attractive bikes on Indian roads. Although the cosmetic changes made in the Karizma targets the youth it is not enough to meet the sporty Pulsar 200cc in design

Handling and Engineering:

Pulsar 200cc is lengthier than new Karizma but its wheelbase is shorter than new Karizma which means you have to be careful with the Pulsar 200cc while negotiating a turn. Both the bikes offer disc at the front and drum brake at the rear as a standard feature. With the MRF tubeless tyres at the front and the back Pulsar gives excellent traction control. Even though Karizma features a 276mm disc at the front a little larger than 260mm offered in pulsar, the massive 150kg Karizma comes to halt in 18.36m from 60kph as against 16.47m taken by pulsar 200cc from the same speed. Both the bikes offer a commanding position for riders. But with split seats and carefully placed foot rest the pillion in the pulsar 200cc gets better visibility. The split seats are not only meant for the sporty look, but also resides a modest lockable and cable released storage under it.

Special features:

In addition to the features mentioned in design section both these bikes have special features which increases their practicality

Pulsar 200cc also leaves its drive chain exposed with O’ ring sealed, which is pre-lubricated to help it stay reliable inspite of running open without protection is one such example. Similar to its sibling Pulsar 220cc-soon to be launched, the pulsar 200cc bike throws away the kick lever and makes you to crank the engine only with your thumb unlike the Karizma which offers both self and Kick mechanism for cranking. Both these bikes use best instruments and unheard features in any Indian bike. Both Pulsar 200cc and the new Karizma have Digital odo Meter, Digital Fuel Gauge and Digital Trip Meter. Pulsar 200cc features a digital console which uses only LEDs and intelligently varies its amber backlight intensity for viewing in either day or night. The new Karizma features a night vision in the digital console, which illuminates the console to bright neon yellow and makes the speedometer stand out in the dark, forming a stunning contrast. It also features powerful multi-reflector trapezoidal headlight with two pilot lamps for that added beam, an integrated clear-lens lamp tail light for better visibility at the rear. Real time clock is found only in the console of Karizma. Both these bikes use 15 litre reservoirs and bar end weights – which keeps off the vibration. Karizma has safety switch for clutch which actuates when the vehicle is started in gear.

What Karizma lacks:

For the features like self-canceling Indicators that switch off when the turn has been completed and the handlebar comes to a ‘straight ahead’ position with a pre-set automatic switch off function, even if the turn has not been undertaken, auto switchover feature – which comes into play incase one of the two Headlamp filaments stops functioning, backlit, non-contact type, soft-touch handlebar switches digital speedo meter – which throws away the conventional cable, additional digital trip meter and indicators for air filter condition, engine temperature, battery voltage and oil level -all of which contribute to enhancing rider info for trouble-free riding and for a low maintenance battery with a unique venting valv – which drastically reduces the electrolyte loss and therefore reducing frequency of routine maintenance the new Karizma has no answers to Bajaj Pulsar 200cc.

Pricing and availability:

The new Karizma will also continue to be priced at almost the same level as the previous version, with on-road prices for the regular variant working out to Rs 79,000-80,000. The special edition variant with red mag-wheels will be costlier by about Rs 1,000. Bajaj has launched 52 Probiking outlets – which will house only high performance bikes. Pulsar 200cc would be available at such Probiking showrooms at select locations across the country for an attractive price of Rs.65,497 (ex showroom, New Delhi).

However, Honda Hunk model does not vibrate even at a speed of 80 kmph.

The Bajaj Pulsar 150cc model has advantage of better throttle responsiveness with its feature of Digital Twin spark ignition. Similarly, The Honda Hunk model also responds with a slightest twist. In the Pulsar model clutch works perfectly but guess the gearbox needs some modifications. However, the Hunk model of Honda boasts of a 5-speed gearbox and the clutch is extremely smooth and the gears can be shifted with slightest effort. Pulsar 150cc is known to have notchy gear shifting and the clutch is not as smooth as it is in the Hunk.

Fuel Efficiency: Mileage wise Honda Hunk gives about 55-60 km/L for the economy riding and 65 km/L on a long drive and Pulsar 150cc DTSi gives around 45-50 km/L mileage on economy ride and about 55 on long drive (should it be driven smoothly).

Brakes: What about the disc brakes of these two motorbikes? Pulsar is equipped with good disc brakes, but it needs to be applied carefully as the brakes of Bajaj Pulsar are extremely sensitive. With applying front brakes too quick in the Pulsar model, it has a tendency to topple over. However, the front wheel of Honda Hunk has a 240 mm disc brake and the rear wheel is equipped with 130 mm drum breaks and that by itself provides with enough stability in the Indian road conditions.

Dashboard: If you are a fan of digital display panels, I am afraid that the Hunk may disappoint you a little bit. While the Hunk has nicely designed 3 dial dashboard displaying all the necessary details, Pulsar’s digital console is seductive for many Pulsar fans.

Quality & Handling: Pulsar 150cc DTSi generates more noise, as it gets older; say a 2-year-old pulsar is noisier than a new Pulsar, but hardly there is any such difference in Hunk. However, if the rider is fond of speed drive, his Pulsar 150cc DTSi will get heated up when driven at 60kmph speed for sometime. Yowza! Hero Honda Hunk stays cool no matter speed driving for a considerable length of time. It also means a difference with maintenance. Pulsar 150cc DTSi warrants change in clutch plates more often than a Hero Honda Hunk. So speed handling, Hunk betters the Pulsar.

Comfort: The riding position of Pulsar gives a sporty kind of feeling in comparison to the Hunk model. Pulsar can boast of a plush ride quality with great shock absorbers. There are a few who complain of awkward seating position on a pulsar and that a Bajaj Pulsar 150cc doesn’t make a pillion rider feel as comfortable, especially if it’s a female. The riding position of Honda Hunk is comparatively better with raised handlebars and neatly placed foot pegs. The innovative gas-charged rear suspension gives a nice feeling as well. Additionally, the cushioned seats of Hunk model are extremely comfortable for long distance ride. The front seat of the Hero Honda Hunk model is separated by a step from the back seat and makes the pillion feel, male or female, quite comfortable.

Technology: The digital technology incorporated into this high-flying motorbike, Bajaj Pulsar that gives a great satisfaction of a rare and daring riding experience. The bike was developed to ride in any kind of terrain with its nitrogen assisted rear gas shockers; telescopic suspension, optimized and improved exhaust gas system. While again Hunk is also a new age technology driven bike with low fuel consumption. Digital console of Bajaj Pulsar could be no competition, as most new age bikes will have that feature. Again the Hunk is slightly heavier than the Bajaj pulsar 150cc as it weighs 145 kg. Hero Honda Hunk lacks the LED Tail lamps, digital meter and has slightly hard gearbox.

Pricing: As regards price, Bajaj Pulsar 150 cc DTSi is priced competitively at Rs.59,190 (ex-showroom Delhi) and coming to about Rs.68,000 on road. On the other Hero Honda Hunk is priced at Rs.55,000 (ex-showroom) with auto start as optional and costing about Rs.65,000 on road.

Verdict: But all said and done, in the 150cc segment on the marketing front Pulsar 150 DTSi kicked off Hero Honda Hunk, but in core biking (by which I mean quality, handling and reliability) Hunk kicked the butt of Pulsar and there is no debate to this. Still better I would say, ask an owner who owns a Hunk for 2 years or so, he is still a happy man to have spent very little on maintenance and the Pulsar 150cc DTSi owner would have changed clutch plates, shock absorbers and is already looking for an upgrade of Pulsar (if he is a diehard Pulsar fan) or some other better model. The spares of Bajaj maybe cheaper than Honda but even Auto Car India acknowledged that Bajaj as a whole suffers from quality problems.
