Blue Murder, director's cut

You may have noticed the reappearance of "Blue Murder" in the works-in-progress area. This is a short story that currently appears in this Aspen Mountain Press anthology. It is scheduled for re-release as a stand alone ebook so it seemed like a good time to flesh out the story and show what happened after Bern and Kerry fked to Canada. All going to plan, Blue Murder will be reappearing as a short novella, about 20,000 words.

I got 1000 words done on Lover of Ghosts today and also sent of a short story collection to Aspen Mountain Press. If they like it I hope to release several more themed collections over the next few years.

Given my reduced writing time I have decided to try out a new product. Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a voice transcription program and I am wondering if this might be a way to speed up first draft writing--especially as my typing skills are not all that good. Even after writing quite a few books I am still a two-finger typist. I look forward to being able to give it a go....

Entrecard Jumps the Shark

Entrecard was a free advertisement swapping system for blogs. A recent attempt to monetise the system caused many glitches and many complaints. The response? To ban any such discussion from the forums and block most users from accessing the forums. The end, I suspect, is near. And shutting off the ability to discuss it on site will have predictable results....

I see the winner of the Pulitzer prize for fiction is a 300-page short story collection-slash- novel : Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. I am always tempted by the Pulitzer winner. But I hesitate to sign up for this book which although no doubt excellently written seem to tred the the well travelled literary ground of sad people in small town, probably travelling through cruelty and ennui to end with a slightly ambiguous tragedy.

That and it is $14, which is a lot to pay for a paperback.
