Knock Nevis - Worlds Biggest Super Tanker...

2011-01-22T08:29:00.001+05:30

The vessel Knock Nevis is the largest super-tanker (ULCC built ever. The deadweight of the vessel is 565,000 metric tons, the length is 458 meters, beam of 69 meters and draft of 26.4 meters. The vessel Knock Nevis is the largest one in comparison with all other vessels from this type, while the character using is deadweight. The story about this is very interesting and very nice, in my own oppinion. The vessel was ordered into the ship-yard and idea about this vessel was to be the largest one built ever. In spite of this fact, the ship-owner ordered to Knock Nevis to be added 87,000 thousand tones to the deadweight, with the idea this vessel to becaome some symbol of oil tankering and shipping at all. So the vessel collected the whole 565,000 metric tons deadweight and now is the largest ULCC in the world. In all other competitison, just for example Gross Tonnage and Net Tonnage, the vessel is losing the first place from the Euronav and Overseas Super-tankers TI Europe, TI Asia and TI Oceania. In spite of this Knock Nevis is a symbol in shipping and will all the time stay in the hearts of all ships fans.

The vessel Knock Nevis, was built with the name Seawise Giant, and changed her name some times. The last name of the ship and most famous one was Jahre Viking. This was the last sailing name of the ship. After renaming of Jahre Viking to Knock Nevis on 2004, the vessel is anchoren in the Persian Bay, near Qatar, where is used as sailing storage tank. The vessel was too hard for opperation, because the restriction of Suez Canal and Panama Canal, are making the expences about long voyages too big and the profits of Knock nevis were too little for such large ship.
The vessel has a displacement of 647,955 metric tones and can carry 4.1 million barrels of crude oil. This capacity is just enormous, and you can imagine that with one delivery of this vessel the whole world economy will be able to perform for more than 2 days. That is why super-tankers are so used in the world of shipping, but while sailing thay are making too great risks for the ecology.

First, these ships have been called:

"Seawise Giant"
"Porthos"
"Happy Giant"
"Jahre Viking"
"Knock Nevis"

Egypt - Rare Photo Collection...

The Thirtieth Dynasty was the last native ruling dynasty during the Pharaonic epoch. It fell to the Persians in 343 BC after the last native Pharaoh, King Nectanebo II, was defeated in battle. Later, Egypt fell to the Greco–Macedonians and Romans, beginning over two thousand years of foreign rule. The last ruler from the Ptolemaic line was Cleopatra VII, who committed suicide with her lover Marc Antony, after Caesar Augustus had captured them.

Before Egypt became part of the Byzantine realm, Christianity had been brought by Saint Mark the Evangelist in the AD first century. Diocletian's reign marked the transition from the Roman to the Byzantine era in Egypt, when a great number of Egyptian Christians were persecuted. The New Testament had by then been translated into Egyptian. After the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451, a distinct Egyptian Coptic Church was firmly established.

A unified kingdom was founded circa 3150 BC by King Menes, giving rise to a series of dynasties that ruled Egypt for the next three millennia. Egyptians subsequently referred to their unified country as tawy, meaning "two lands", and later kemet (Coptic: kīmi), the "black land", a reference to the fertile black soil deposited by the Nile river. Egyptian culture flourished during this long period and remained distinctively Egyptian in its religion, [[Art of Ancient language and customs. The first two ruling dynasties of a unified Egypt set the stage for the Old Kingdom period, c.2700−2200 BC., famous for its many pyramids, most notably the Third Dynasty pyramid of Djoser and the Fourth Dynasty Giza Pyramids.

The First Intermediate Period ushered in a time of political upheaval for about 150 years. Stronger Nile floods and stabilization of government, however, brought back renewed prosperity for the country in the Middle Kingdom c. 2040 BC, reaching a peak during the reign of Pharaoh Amenemhat III. A second period of disunity heralded the arrival of the first foreign ruling dynasty in Egypt, that of the Semitic Hyksos. The Hyksos invaders took over much of Lower Egypt around 1650 BC and founded a new capital at Avaris. They were driven out by an Upper Egyptian force led by Ahmose I, who founded the Eighteenth Dynasty and relocated the capital from Memphis to Thebes.

"Terros de Hercules" - "Rafael de La-Hoz" Amazing work, Spain...

"Terros de Hercules" - "Rafael de La-Hoz" Amazing work, Spain...

Located in Bay of Algeciras – Spain, Rafael de La-Hoz architect have completed design the building of Las Torres de Hercules.

Las Torres de Hercules will have 100 meters of exterior frame and another 26 corresponding to a telecommunications antenna. 126 meters in total. In a few days, the building's structure will eclipse the honor of Seville's Giralda of being the tallest building in the Andalusian Community.

From Architect :

The building's 20 floors are 80 meters tall. The interior modulation of the offices has been started with the installation of raised floors and heating and cooling elements as well as lighting on the floors' temporary ceilings. Each one of the floors is windowed on the interior of the concrete frame.

The plan for the construction projects the conclusion of work by the end of this year, although the first weeks of 2009 have not been ruled out as the definitive end date as the exterior of the towers still needs to be finished, mainly the man-made lake that will surround them, the green areas, and 200 covered parking spots.

With the structure of the towers practically finished, the inscription of "Non Plus Ultra" that encircles them is more easily appreciated. The choice of this motto is not casual, given that the Torres de Hercules draw their inspiration from those that appear on the Andalusian coat of arms, while also being a mythological allegory between Europe and Africa.
