Join The Big Hug and promote awareness of endometriosis to help all women and girls in your home, school, work and community to overcome this silent epidemic.

Endometriosis (pronounced ‘end-oh-me-tree-oh-sis’) is a common disease affecting one in ten New Zealand women and girls. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is found in places outside the uterus where it shouldn’t be.

Symptoms include pain, diarrhoea with a period, bloating, painful intercourse, lower back pain, tiredness, low energy, mood disturbances and bladder pain.

Endometriosis New Zealand (ENZ) represents the tens of thousands who have the condition and those who treat it in New Zealand.

The Big Hug is about you, your partner, your wife, your friend, your sister, your daughter, mother or grandmother. The Big Hug is about your colleague, your student and your patients and it may even be about the teenage girls next door.

The Big Hug is about embracing all women and girls and creating a voice to speak out. The Big Hug is about embracing and supporting ENZ, the organisation that represents them and The Big Hug is about a big hug, cos that’s sometimes all you need.

THE BIG HUG is now on Facebook. Keep in the loop, get involved and JOIN NOW!

All funds raised from The Big Hug Auction 2010 will go to Endometriosis New Zealand to support the services and programmes they provide, such as Workforce Issue Solutions for Endometriosis (WISE), the award winning ‘me’ programme in schools, Patient Partnering in hospitals, support groups and information resources.

The winner of the $50 Flicker candles goes to Victoria Vincent from Victoria Vincent Photographer, a member of our Central Wellington Venus Club. www.victoriavincent.com

Congratulations to all of the women who entered and shared why they loved their business, it truly reminds us of what is great about running our own business.

————————————————————————–

I love to hear from my clients that ‘they cannot believe the difference it has made to get their workstation and workplace set up correctly so they can work comfortably’. We often put up with all sorts of ‘niggles’ which can become significant pain when at work, which affects our work performance and how we cope with life.

As businesswomen we haven’t got the time to be putting up with pain as well, but it often takes just a few small changes to make a world of difference. My biggest reward is hearing those clients who are now pain free when I check back with them!

Best wishes,

What I love about my business….there are so many things, where do I start!
Firstly I love the fact that producing highly effective online website solutions can literally transform business for organisations and I love happy clients that make more money once I have become involved with them.
I also love meeting the large number of people I have the pleasure to work with and the wide range of business and people “types” that I get to know and understand. I really do make friends whilst working which is a real bonus.
I love the fact I am self employed and the challenges and the joys that brings with it. Not having to apologise to an employer when your children are sick or carefully plan my 20 days leave a year is priceless. If I choose to be mother help at kindy and work until midnight to make it up it is my choice and no one else needs be involved. Yeehaa!
I really do love what I do as well as loving the benefits it brings to me personally and financially.

Leveraging social media tools, websites, online forums, online networks and industry groups should be considered a vital part of raising your visibility and profile.

Five things to consider when marketing yourself online:

Carefully select the right social media groups and networks that will add value and credibility

Make yourself easy to contact – Email Signature, Website, Twitter, Linked In, Facebook, Skype – provide the right contact options for you and ensure you keep the information up to date and relevant

Strategically follow other key people who can help leverage your profile through association – but always ensure you can add value in return

Explore the various available marketing promotional opportunities to help promote yourself. An online resume or bio, creating newsletters or blogs about your area of expertise or industry can help raise your profile.

Dont just set your online profiles up and leave them – invest time in keeping your information current, fresh and evolving.

The easier you are to find, the greater your opportunities will be.

We all let our fingers do the walking now – so make sure you have an online presence.

Her company Slipstream Creative, is an owner operated Christchurch based graphic design company. Debbie produces professional and innovative print based graphic design solutions for growing small to medium sized enterprises.

Graphic design has always been a passion of hers and the best way to communicate her passion is through strong working relationships with her clients.

This enables Debbie to deliver the high impact and effective graphic design solutions her clients are after.

Debbie using her years of industry experience, designs not just what her clients want, she ensures they get a whole lot more! She
manages the print and quality process by using carefully selected print providers. In other words, a trained eye is watching the entire design to print job. By doing this she can ensure the finished printed product fits the client’s budget and the quality exceeds their expectations.

Who would use Debbie?
Her clients typically require print based promotional material such as company logos, business stationery, advertising, monthly newsletters, product brochures, vehicle and building sign writing.

How does the process work?

Initial Design Consultation
This meeting or phone call helps me understand you and your business so I can provide the right creative solution for you. I will talk through your job and I will offer design suggestions that align with what you want to achieve.

Design
I then develop design concepts that I email to you for feedback and alterations. Remember, my primary goal is customer satisfaction so I work closely with you to ensure you are 100% satisfied with the final design of your project.

Printing
Once we have finalised the design of the job I will provide you with a printed proof for you to view and thoroughly inspect. Once this printed proof has your seal of approval, your job will be sent to production.

Delivery
Your job will be neatly packaged and delivered straight to your doorstep on time with no hassle! How easy is that?

Testimonial
I was very impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail that Debbie at Slipstream Creative gave to creating my logo and business branding! I came to her with a small idea and she helped me expand on it to produce the exact look I was looking for. I now have cards and material that I am ‘proud’ to share with my potential clients. I receive compliments regularly for my business cards, and continually recommend Slipstream Creative to my clients and colleagues.

At Venus we are passionate about supporting women whether they have a not for profit or a business. Each Venus Club has one sponsored membership available to support women in the not for profit sector. Rachael rencently joined the Tauranga Harbourside Club representing Living Hope.

The streets of Vladivostok, Russia, are home to countless numbers of children. In 1998, one woman set out to change this.
New Zealander Rachael Hughes’ efforts began what is now known as Living Hope, a charitable organisation that helps give the street children of Vladivostok, the life they deserve.

Through Living Hope, children are fed, clothed, encouraged, educated and given the ability to see their potential.
Facilities and funds are scarce. Yet Living Hope’s Day Centre, and holiday camps are making a huge difference.

Thanks to the efforts of Rachael Hughes and her dedicated team in Vladivostok, hope now exists where once there was none…

The catalyst for Living Hope was a child pickpocket and a single meal. In 1997, whilst on her way to take up a post teaching English in Russia, New Zealander Rachael Hughes felt a hand reach for her purse and turned to confront the person. Instead she looked down at the face of a homeless child.

She had witnessed countless scared, hungry children begging on the streets of Vladivostok, so was moved to buy this child a meal. Seeing the way he devoured the food with an expression of shame made such an impression on Rachael that the next day she returned to the streets handing out fruit and sandwiches. Within a month she was feeding thirty children up to 3 times a week.

As knowledge of her work grew, more and more caring individuals came on board. People from local churches volunteered their time, money, food and facilities. And for the first time, many children knew they would receive regular food, clothing and love.

In 1999, the Vladivostok Homeless Children’s Rehabilitation Society, Living Hope, was registered as a charitable organisation. Being officially recognised was the first step in making a real difference. With a Board of Administration, eight full-time Russian staff as well as local and overseas volunteers, Living Hope continues to meet an ever-increasing number of children in need of a new beginning.

Increase your Referrals: Choose a target market

A target or niche market is a group of people you choose to focus on marketing and selling your service or product to. You cannot hope to market your business to everyone, even if you think everyone needs you.
Why choose a target market?

Deciding on your target market lays a critical foundation for your business. When you get clear about who your target market is, you will:

Get results from your marketing spend: By focussing on one or more niches you’re able to connect with these people at a much higher level.

You will know where to focus your marketing efforts because you will know where your target market are, what they read, what they do, who they are in contact with.

Receive more referrals: Club members and customers know exactly who to refer you to. You make it harder on yourself when you say you market to everyone. Your club members will not be out in the street talking to everyone about you. It just doesn’t happen. The more targeted your market, the more likely your club members can be on the lookout for your ideal client.

Know where to focus your research efforts: You want to intimately understand your market: the problems they have and the language they speak. The greater your level of understanding the more magnetic you will become.

Top choice for prospects: You are viewed as the only choice because your service is ‘designed’ to solve the specific problems of those people.

How to choose a target market
Analyse your customer base and group them into specific target markets. Decide on the profile of your ideal client. What sort of person are they? Decide on their demographics and psychographics.

Demographics: what is their age, gender, income, where are they located: local, national, international?

Psychographics: What are their characteristics, values, what motives them?
The clearer you are about who you want to do business with, the more you will attract exactly the referral you’re looking for.

9 Essential Criteria for Choosing your Target Market
Your target market will determine your income and success. Choose the wrong one and you will waste a lot of time and money with very little results. Whatever target market —TM— you choose, check to see that it meets the following 10 essential criteria:

1. Your TM has a big problem.
They think about it all the time, it keeps them awake at night.

2. Your TM wants the problem solved.
The impact and cost of the problem is big enough that they will act to solve it (some people have problems they are quite happy to live with!).

3. You can easily find your TM.
Do they belong to associations? Are there conferences for this target market? Are there publications? Where do they hangout? If it’s not easy to find your target market, it will cost you a lot of money to find them.

4. Your TM has money to spend.
No point having a terrific service if your target market hasn’t the money to pay for it. I know this sounds basic but it’s often overlooked.

5. Your TM has a history of paying to have this problem solved.
You want to focus on a target market where there is a proven track record of problems and people paying to solve them. A good sign is if your competitors are selling similar services to the target market.

6. There’s enough of your TM out there to sustain a business.
How many people or businesses are in your target market? Realistically how many will become your clients and what will that be worth to you? Is that enough?

7. You enjoy working with your TM.
Think about what types of people are in your target market and visualize being with them day in and day out. How does that feel? Will you feel energized or drained at the end of the day? Remember, you are also in business to enjoy yourself so make sure you will enjoy working with this target market.

8. You have a passion for helping and serving this TM.
Passion is an essential ingredient for selling your services.

I believe one of the reasons the Venus Clubs are successful is that we have chosen a very clear niche market, two in fact. Women solo entrepreneurs, mostly with home based offices and small business owners (including franchise owners) – both these groups have been in business less than 5 years, are committed to growing their business, they want to be part of a community of likeminded women and they want to contribute to the success of other businesswomen.
Love your work,
