On September 9 at The Arts Centre in Christchurch,

Flair Image and Savoir Lingerie will hold Embrace, a fashion showcase of fashion for beautiful, curvy women size 14 plus to prove fashion is not limited by size.

“Curvy’ and ‘chic’ don’t have to be contradictory terms,” says Flair Image stylist Stephanie Rumble.

“But larger women, on the whole, are pretty under-served by the fashion industry,” she says.

“Most labels don’t cater for them – which is their loss, because despite the recession the plus size market is the only one growing.”

Rumble says that Embrace aims to highlight some of the top plus size designers in the country with a fashion show and live makeover, proving plus size women don’t have to resort to wearing shapeless kaftans.

“They can and should wear glamorous, well fitting and stunning clothes,” she says.

The show will feature garments from Savoir, The Carpenters Daughter, TS14+, Detail, Plush and Long Island on models selected from a plus size model search.

“The models are various sizes and shapes,” says Rumble. “None are smaller than a 14 and go to sizes as large as 20, and every shape from apple to pear will be dressed to kill,” she says.

“It will be a fun night that will encourage plus size women to revel in stunning fashion and learn to dress in a way that highlights their best features, express their unique personalities and be on trend,” says Rumble. “There will be heaps of fantastic spot prizes from all the labels involved and it will be a not to be missed night.”

What I love about it is that the businesses are not focused on a specific location (Ponsonby) but are very broad in terms of their clientele and it’s very easy for us all to refer and help each other.

I feel Venus is something I can contribute to really easily and get much from.
