That allows them to take a Revit or 3D AutoCAD model and post that to the cloud and provide access to that model to anybody within their firm. They don’t have to have Revit on their computers. It allows them to navigate the model, to associate elements to elements in the model.

“So you could be browsing the model through the Model Viewer, see a condition you want to write up and right from within that view, initiate that project information item,” Batcheler pointed out. “It captures the relationship between that item, the view and the revision state of the model. When someone is looking at that in Project Center they will see an appropriate activity center. A related item will call out a model view that was created when that item came in. You can also see the same view with the current state of the model. It’s not a static view of the model, you can rotate it, freeze elements of the model, so you can get a better view of the context. That’s what this is about, capturing spatial and chronological context, and you can also associate any type of document with any element or view in that published model. All project team members can have access to that model; they don’t need Revit. The published form of the model exists in the Cloud.”

The difference between this solution and Autodesk’s BIM 360 is the integration with the rest of the project management solution, according to Batcheler."

Read more at:
AECCafe.com - AECCafe Voice - Newforma Project Analyzer connects people to information via project resource managementLuke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-11205379929794703522013-03-13T20:34:00.001+10:002013-03-13T20:34:38.374+10:00This sounds a bit like the kind of change that VEO will facilitate ..."the nature of firms and the structure of firms will probably change," [Philip Rosedale] said. We too have been anxiously awaiting to see what VEO would be in the end as we were told it was really BIM platform agnostic but itself wasn’t another multi-platform BIM authoring package. Indeed, VEO is not a BIM authoring package but rather a BIM platform which addresses a core aspect of the BIM revolution within AEC. That aspect is that BIM is actually a process change rather than a software technology change.

Before folks get super excited about VEO for Mac OS X we would caution readers to consider the long list of “plans” statements by companies in the CAD and 3D industry. About ten years ago we published a news report quoting Revit manager Richard Rundell AIA who told us privately that Revit was built from the ground-up to be highly portable and that plans for Revit were not only important but doable. That never happened. And while Revit for Mac may indeed be imminent (and we know nothing official) many BIM users and OS X fans wait patiently.

We have heard statements about native Mac versions of many things over the years and still they always seem to be plans out in the distant horizon. With that word of caution let’s also state that M-SIX is a brand new BIM company and they deserve optimism and praise for their implementation of iOS in their mobility and cloud strategy. Those who are interested in VEO and want to see it on OS X should simply tell them that and then download and use the product on Windows if they can. That is the best way to assure funding for OS X in the future.

Image from architosh

Read more at:
M-SIX introduces VEO for the AEC industry | ArchitoshLuke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-7231214900825029162013-02-25T10:49:00.002+10:002013-02-25T10:49:25.242+10:00Review of M-SIX VEO on Energi InformatikPart of a review written by Nis Boile Christensen:

Potential and personal opinion
I have covered some of this in the above text, but I want to add that my personal opinion on this program is overall positive. It is, if not the program, then at least a step on the way to what the AEC industry needs in relation to the modern cross-collaborative BIM-workflow. There is especially a great potential in the Archives feature, which I think a lot of project managers and contractors could have a great use of in terms of control, data gathering, quality assurance and optimization.

One thing that I don’t quite like about this new program is the user controls: why not keep the same control settings as used in ex. Revit©, seeing that the users of VEOTM© would be mainly Revit© users, until other API’s gets developed. I got frustrated when trying to navigate in the program.

So what you’re getting, if you buy it, is basically a cross-collaborative BIM-platform that includes the capabilities of a viewer, a model checker, a scheduling program and an Operation and Maintenance database. If it is as good as the other stand-alone solution cannot be determined here, only user experience and time can tell.

Image from Energi Informatik

Read more:
Program review: M-SIX VEO | Energi InformatikLuke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-58908331134210335752013-02-21T11:23:00.002+10:002013-02-21T11:23:59.350+10:00What VEO Can, Can't and Will Yet Do (Graphisoft, Excel and iPad)My top three points:

In the near future VEO will have exporters for Graphisoft applications as well as other leading file formats.

VEO won’t replace a document management solution that provides document release management with configurable workflow tools.

VEO Excel Plugin and iPad application coming soon.

Read more at this interesting little page:
More Info

Heads-up https://twitter.com/randydeutsch Luke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-41027538484955713522013-02-18T11:50:00.001+10:002013-02-18T11:50:40.497+10:00Yeah, but what do *You* think of VEO?Time for some opinions to be heard - if not here, then maybe on Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn. After much hype, can you see a place for VEO in your real-world workflows? Feel free to comment.

Here is an example:
It seemed like everyone was excited about the release of this VEO-thing from M-Six.. I had no idea what it was or what it could do. Apparently it had gotten postponed a couple of times so people were really anxious about the result. I must say, it looks really interesting and i have been waiting for some BIM Software where you could link your documentation to the specific elements and it looks like VEO does that in a very nice way.
via
M-Six VEO | The BIM StandardLuke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-36954121551744313772013-02-15T10:41:00.001+10:002013-02-15T10:41:04.438+10:00VEO enters the blogosphere proper...Read more:
VEO Available to the Masses | betterREVITLuke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-11765953631684800322013-02-08T12:40:00.003+10:002013-02-08T12:40:30.391+10:00Re-launch! VEO is available for download - issues have been resolvedThe actual issues were quite minor - the Client software (about 28mb) can itself download documents and resources, but M-SIX have provided a larger installer (about 450mb) that includes all of the resources for the First Hour Experience. The functionality of this integrated content has been corrected in the latest release, available at:
http://www.m-six.com/try

Turns out sitting here pressing 'Refresh' does pay off ... :-)

Luke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-23468333354675136252013-02-08T11:33:00.001+10:002013-02-08T11:33:23.746+10:00How to switch between working Online and Offline in VEOJust click on your username in the top-right hand corner of the screen:

Luke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-7379713062555452013-02-08T11:19:00.000+10:002013-02-08T11:19:30.779+10:00VEO 'Learn' Intro Videohttp://m-six.com/learn

Luke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-16377640959088817982013-02-08T09:26:00.003+10:002013-02-08T09:26:54.999+10:00Self-hosted VEO Forum has launchedHitting the ground running M-SIX has launched a discussion forum concurrently with their product launch.

Check it out at VEO Forum

Luke Johnsonhttps://plus.google.com/114232174702949134265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289849662235532579.post-38180067884443575592013-02-08T09:22:00.001+10:002013-02-08T09:22:38.846+10:00VEO Launch "issues"If you weren't following VEO News (also on Twitter), you may have missed the first opportunity to register and download the public release.
