Wondering why sleep is the best medication?

Sleep may elude some of us. Whether that’s down to an individual’s inability to get some shut-eye or the burdensome bawling of offspring at all hours of the night, there’s no denying the ill-effects of such privation and disruption.

So much so, that the combined effects of a lack of sleep are staggering, and the list of symptoms is alarming. These can include weight loss or gain, clumsiness and fatigue, adverse effects on the brain and cognitive function, and, in extreme cases, psychosis.

Whilst for the vast majority of sufferers, the symptoms are unlikely to be this profound, the disruption caused can still be highly detrimental to their health and well-being. The need for deep, dependable, and restorative sleep shouldn’t be undervalued.

Where to start?

The ideal starting point is with a sleep schedule. A regular routine for bedtime is of paramount importance. Try to avoid the temptation to stay up later at the weekends. In theory, you should be able to go to bed and wake up naturally, without the need for an alarm clock, although it may take some experimentation to uncover the secret to your natural sleep.

The hormone Melatonin is vital for helping to find this natural balance, and its production is dependant on exposure to light. The brain should release more Melatonin at night, which aids sleepiness, and less during daylight hours, when we need to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Of course, modern life can often interfere with nature’s intentions, and factors such as artificial light and bright computer or television screens are often at fault. It’s important, therefore, to get as much exposure to natural light as possible during the day, and as little exposure to artificial light as possible at night.

Likewise, a relaxing bedtime routine can also reap rewards. Much as you would for a baby, it’s important to establish your own system that helps prepare the body for sleep. A warm bath, a good book, and your favourite pyjamas can all help to encourage the body to wind down and release the stresses of the day.

Being mindful of what you put into your system can also be of immeasurable benefit to your sleep. Alcohol, caffeine and fatty foods will only stimulate your digestion, and a troubled tummy will make your sleep suffer. As the average adult needs approximately eight hours of shut-eye to function optimally, it’s clear that we can’t afford not to spend time on our sleep.

Due to my new home-duty, I rarely have time to take care of myself now. What I mean of ‘take care’ here is dressing up (but always try to), skin and body care, or even putting some make-up on. That also includes my hair care. Well, it seems that every hair problem loves my hair. You know, I think my hair is attractive in a weird way or something. So please let me lead you to my tons of hair problem: I have this wavy, greasy, and tangled hair. The density of my hair is very thin with dry and notorious split-ends. My scalp is also oily and get limp easily. Duh. Hair problem sucks, no? But what makes me stressed the most is the HAIR due to breakage!

Every single time I wash my hair with any shampoo, it’s depressing to see clumps of hair falling out of my head. Sometimes it gets tangled and when I try to separate it strand by strand, it makes the hair fall even worse! It’s seriously depressing because I’m afraid of going bald in my twenties! NOOOOOO…!!

I know my hair is damaged and it’s the consequence for what I’ve done to my hair a while ago. I've tried everything without proper hair care and treatment that my hair really needed. But I think my stress level (duh… life!!) gets the main role for this HAIR FALL problem now other than just ‘hormonal problem’.

Now I need to get rid of this hair fall problem! It’s desperately important to find a solution for my falling hair as early as possible, yes? I am actually a fan of classic pieces and I tend to be very classy and traditional when it comes to wedding thingy. You know, something that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to tell my grandchildren (I mean, StarWars-theme wedding? I know it's cool but... C’mooon!). I also have a ‘plain’ taste if I get to choose jewelry that I would wear for the rest of my life. If I could ask my husband to marry me once again (hahaha), maybe I will ask my husband to get me these beautiful wedding sets for us. My fave jewelry site has the ability to customize any jewelry designs according to our own taste and budget has stolen my heart.

It's actually a remake (or mix, perhaps?) of this look and this look... And if you notice something, there are actually two different backgrounds! Haha. If you a long-time follower of my blog, you may know that I'm crazy of layering this and that. This time, I layered two lightweight outerwears in nude color and paired them with matched cream and white color. Can't get enough of pastels and soft neutral colors yet, especially this spring! Anyway, I hate my too-long bangs and this side bangs don't cover my weird forehead properly so I guess I need to cut it again by myself, don't you think?

A quick outfit post. Got this dress from Chictopia Swap last year but I just had a chance to wear it. The polkadot pattern is just the cherry on top of this dress. My outfit for grocery store doesn't usually look 'this' fancy but I felt like I wanted to dress up and played with some layering (a bit cold rainy day) so there goes my outfit... I don't usually like green color (especially the one that looks like... gross moss?) but I love jade green. One of the most gorgeous colors I've ever discovered in my whole life and I ain't joking :D
Also got this short sleeve cardigan from Dream Shop and it goes well with this outfit, don't you think? :)

Here we go again. Back from the ashes. So many things to do, so little time... February was really nice and it's my favorite month of the year. Some of the most meaningful scenes and memories in my life happened on this month. I wish February comes twice in a year. Hahahaha. Yeah, recently turned 23 makes me feel so old (duh!) and it leads to a thoughtful things that I've achieved in my whole life. Not much, but I'm blessed to be who I am now. I have a lot of dreams and I believe in them and it will be never too late to makes them come true, whatsoever :)

Received this vintage dress in a super cute package and nice thank-you-card from Odd & Dot! I absolutely adore this beautiful dress! It's slightly bigger than I expected but I managed to wear it with belt so it doesn't look that slouchy.

Also had this brown hat for few years but this is its first time blog featured. Yayness. Such a long wait, hat... Oh, and the socks (which looks so white) are actually soft pink (matched the floral print on the dress). Thoughts? :)

Happy 2012! Kinda long absence since my last post... Finally back! My internet connection was fucked up for couple weeks and it was the phone line who screwed everything so it took ages to get normal again. Gosh. Anyway, this is super-delayed post. I was about to post it couple weeks ago. My new sponsor, Dream Shop, sent me this superb skirt along with other goodies. I was amazed to see how beautiful the pattern is. Such a cutie, eh? It's kind of vintage inspired and they're all handmade (and well-tailored!).

This blazer is hidden deep in my closet and when I found it again, 'floral-craze' suddenly popped in my mind. I think it goes well with the skirt, no? When I have nothing to wear (like every other girl would feel when you can't choose any outfits because you have too many choices?!), minimalist and simple outfit could be a perfect choice. I've been looking for a denim dress for ages and finally found one! This Duvessa dress is classy yet casual but with a steal from my mom's wardrobe and a comeback from my beret hat, I get effortlessly chic and sophisticated look. :)

These wedges are also simple yet outstanding pieces to complete the look. They go with like... everything in my closet! Browsed through Minimal to find a wide range of affordable clothes selection that would definitely make you well-dressed and feel chic!

Finally an outfit post! Do I look very much chubbier? Excuse the blurry pictures, please. My "personal photographer" still need to join a photography course and we were very much in hurry because it's getting too dark and finally raining!

I see sheer-everything on almost every runway show. It's a must have for anyone who lives in tropical country. When my new sponsor Auburn & Ginger sent me these goodies, I was excited of the perfect amount of sheerness, the color, and the timeless yet trendy feel.

And I finally fall in love with these cheap brogues. You won't believe that I only paid $20 for these beauties! They're actually a size smaller than my actual size (for this brand) but I can't help not to buy them because they are just... PERFECT!

Who doesn't resist members-only shopping club that gives access to luxuriousness at amazing deals? Imagine all the pretentious brands range from Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci, Hermes, Chanel, Mulberry, etc etc etc...
