red flower at v&v!

When you’ve finally found your amour, after a long search and some let down, you might want to jump off Oprah’s couch like Tom Cruise. If Oprah would have us on her new couch, we would take flight from her cushions and the words red flower would emanate from our mouths.

Let us introduce you to pure botanical bliss.

Handcrafted in New York with the finest organic essential oils, red flower offers skincare and aromatherapy products that are an everyday indulgence. Experience their sumptousness and be instantly transported.

Descended from rabbis, musicians and a dermatologist grandfather, Yael Alkalay founded the line in 1999 after a near-death skiing accident. It’s no wonder that everything from scrubs to skin oil to room diffusers radiate an irresistibly therapeutic energy. And with gorgeous fragrances like Icelandic moonflower and Italian blood orange, red flower is heaven s(c)ent.

Its petal-topped candles are immensely popular, and our over-the-top fave is the cardamom amber oil! Not only is it exquisitely moisturizing, the scent is intoxicating.

What’s more? red flower is absolutely paraben and petrochemical free. Say au revoir to harsh, chemical formulas that are bad for your skin and the planet, and hello to the natural luxury of red flower! We know you’ll fall as hard as we have.

gros bisous!

your essentially organic angels

The signs of spring are all around. And just like the lilacs blooming in our neighborhoods, OUR SPRING COLLECTION of fresh and beautiful clothing, shoes and accessories is decorating every corner of our shop.

The warmer weather has allowed us to free our feet with these fun and playful kicks from Camper, the Spanish brand cherished for its comfort, creativity and use of chrome-free leathers and recycled materials.

Way back in 1877, a cobbler named Antonio Fluxà sailed from Spain to England to learn the latest industrial manufacturing methods. Upon his return, he assembled a team of the best traditional leather craftsmen in Mallorca and equipped them with modern shoemaking machines.

Almost one hundred years later, Antonio’s grandson Lorenzo revived this innovative attitude and undying allegiance to quality by creating Camper in 1975. Launched with an aesthetic of freedom, adventure and a bit of quirk, Camper continues to produce ultra-lovable shoes rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Their huge following of “lifelovers” is no surprise!

Have you voted for your Triangle faves yet? PLEASE VOTE VERT & VOGUE for Best Local Women’s Boutique and Best Men’s Clothing in the Independent Weekly’s annual poll. Your vote means everything to us. Merci beaucoup!

À bientôt,

your quality-obsessed lifelovers

clothing made in usa? it’s the economy, stupid

February 24th, 2012

It’s something we see in our shop everyday. People like to feel connected to the clothes they wear. Trying on a pair of pants becomes extraordinary when you learn the story behind the designer and the folks who made them—by hand! It’s an authentic experience.

survey and graph by the Cotton Lifestyle MonitorSo it’s not surprising that more and more Americans are paying attention to clothing that’s made in the USA. About 56 percent of consumers say it makes a big difference when deciding whether or not to buy an item, according to a survey by the Cotton Lifestyle Monitor.

And it’s not just a trend. These days, when those consumers buy American, they do it to support the economy. More than 80 percent of those who said that the “made in USA” mark is important to them expressed a desire to support domestic manufacturing jobs and the businesses that provide them. (Check out the graph for a breakdown of the survey results.)

The Monitor published an article yesterday, focusing on designers who manufacture in the U.S., despite the lure of lower production costs elsewhere. To them, cost is less of a concern. Elizabeth Allen, who produces her Elizabeth Cotton line in New York City, said that “made in USA” is about quality. That is where she competes.

Whether or not consumers will pay the price for domestically-made fashion, 60 percent of those surveyed believe it’s higher quality than imported clothing. That means a product that will be worn for years to come—quality replaces quantity. It’s about authenticity!

What else? Dresses, tops and bottoms from James Perse, the LA designer synonymous with all things casual and chic. Super soft cotton blends that are as flattering as they are comfortable.

Now collaborating: Organic by John Patrick and Raleigh Denim

We can’t make it to New York Fashion Week, so we’re experiencing it vicariously through the designers we love and admire. We were especially psyched to hear that our favorite non-automated jeansmiths at Raleigh Denim made their big debut this year, but we were even more surprised and pleased to see a collaboration between RD and Organic by John Patrick. Check out the Times Style Magazine article about the collab for more details.
