From our rooftop party with the Svedka Vodka/Suvara lounge to our unconventional street team marketing scheme, we had a blast making the Suvara lounge THE place to be during fashion week. We kicked off the week with a hot “Fashion Week Escape Lounge” for guests with fashion affiliates. The lounge party was located on the rooftop of The Empire Hotel at w.63rd and Broadway. Teaming up with Svedka Vodka and Ricardo Rojas Hair Studio, the party benefitted Fashion Delivers, a charity that mobilizes the fashion community to reach out and affect the world through their donations. Guests enjoyed express beauty and hair styling by Ricardo Rojas, air-brush tanning by Suvara, an open bar and a fun atmosphere for mingling. Our own Anna Stankiewicz, whose expertise has dubbed her “tanning guru to the stars,” gave custom air-brush tans to lucky guests and gave them a fabulous, natural glow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By day, the lounge’s hours throughout the week were from 10a.m. to 7 p.m. and was visited by high profile guests such as Gabrielle Union, Time Out New York's Cristina Velocci, Katrina Bowden from 30 Rock and MTV's Julie Alexandria.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To amp up the buzz about Suvara’s amazing custom air-brush tans and our live demo for mid-week, we had to come up with something unconventional! After all, it was Fashion Week and everyone was there to top each other! So, we hired a street team to advertise our live topless model demo for that same night. Our team were dressed in white and adorned with white face paint and white wigs, emphasizing winter’s dry, dull effect on skin and psyche. Their provocative appearance and cheeky slogan, “Pasty Bitch, Get Tan” struck up interest in the lounge’s offerings and the live demo night. It took pedestrians a bit by surprise (a very difficult task in NYC!) and got their interests piqued.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BUccChfvaGQ/TXAODNHr-ZI/AAAAAAAAANY/81-lcqCh4yE/s1600/suvara-fashion-week.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 550px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BUccChfvaGQ/TXAODNHr-ZI/AAAAAAAAANY/81-lcqCh4yE/s800/suvara-fashion-week.jpg" border="0" alt="hot bodies and sexy tans at fashion week with suvara"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579975386536343954" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They mingled with fashion week guests and enthusiasts, inviting all with a fashion affiliate to get rid of their pasty winter look and jump into a fresh, glamorous springtime glow at Suvara’s event.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The live demo was seriously one of the hottest things happening at fashion week. Our topless model getting airbrushed was all the rage, and viewers were lined up 4 rows back to get a peek. Famous photographer David Lee (brother of Spike Lee, for those of you not in the know) was there taking gorgeous photos of our stunning model, who elegantly was air-brushed by Anna. Everything about the event was high-fashion, our model wore a golden Luli Fama swimsuit which accentuated her amazing color.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;David Lee also took glamour shots of glowing, post-tan guests. Fashionistas, press and high profile guests enjoyed free drinks and free blow outs. Maintaining or increasing advertising during a recession results in greater marketshare and share of voice, both during the recession (as competitors advertise less) as well as after the recession ends due to increased brand strength and consistency of exposure. Recessions tend to be brief (average 10 months), mild and are always cyclical. Importance of viewing advertising as an investment, not an expense.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style=""&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style=""&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);"&gt;Examples:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(153, 51, 0);"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;Roland S. Vaile tracked 200 companies through the recession of 1923, and in 1927 he published his findings in the Harvard Business Review, reporting that companies that advertised the most, fared the best both during and after the recession – they saw increased sales in comparison with companies that reduced their advertising. (Harvard Business Review, April 1927)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During the 1930s Kellogg continued their advertising and Post did not.  This contributed to Kellogg’s domination (over Post) throughout the 5 decades following the recession.  (Electronic Media report, 4/16/2001)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During a recession in the mid-1970s Chevrolet abandoned their previous fixed-percentage ad budget and increased their advertising (showcasing their fuel efficient models).  During the same period in order to combat the recession Ford cut their advertising budget by 14%.  This resulted in Chevy increasing their marketshare by 2%. (Electronic Media report, 4/16/2001)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During the 1980-81 recession, companies that maintained or increased their advertising saw sales increase by 275% by 1985.  Comparatively, companies that cut their advertising during the recession only increased their sales by 19% in the same 5 year period. (Associated Press report, 3/18/1992)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A MarketSense study of the recession of 1989-91 shows that Jif Peanut Butter and Kraft Salad Dressing increased their advertising and saw sales growth of 57% and 70%, respectively.
