Vertu is known for its range of Luxury Phones has come out with an
Android smartphone. This time, the Vertu smartphone has an exclusive
Bentley logo on its phone. A 3D logo of Bentley is on the back of the
Vertu Phone.

The company has the reputation of making phones that are
characteristically out of the reach of ordinary people. The Vertu
Signature Touch too falls in the same category.

The Signature Touch is a Android powered smartphone. The Vertu
Signature Touch has a 5.2" display covered by sapphire display with a
pixel density of 428ppi. It has a 21MP rear camera and a 2.1MP camera on
the front. The Signature Touch for Bentley is powered by a Snapdragon
810 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The luxury
smartphone also includes a 64GB microSD card for expandable storage. It
is a backed by a 3160 mAh battery with Quick Charging via micro-USB.
However, the Signature Touch runs a Android 5.1 and there are no details
about a Marshmallow update.

The Signature Touch for Bentley is the result of five-year
partnersip that the luxury automaker has with the luxury smartphone
company. The specifications seem low given the price tag. The Vertu
smartphone is made in England and not China. The Luxury Bentley edition
smartphone is wrapped in "two-tone Beluga and Hotspur Bentley leather
with Hotspur Stitching". The smartphone comes pre-loaded with a Bentley
app that provides exclusive content and access to VIP events. The
Smartphone can be integrated with Bentley cars through the app and seems
a must have for a Bentley owner.

The cheapest Signature Touch is plain leather costs $9,000
(approximately 6 lakhs) and can cost as high as $19,000 (approximately
12.5 lakhs). The appearance of the phone can be customised with a choice
of eight leather colors and 16 stitching options.

Nokia
set up Vertu as a luxury handset brand – the mobile equivalent of a
handcrafted heirloom watch. Nokia exited the company in 2013; by then
smartphones held sway. Expectation levels changed too. The 2010's Vertu
customer didn’t just demand a luxurious product but also a smartphone
that could hold its own against premier flagship devices. Does the Vertu Aster live up to that expectation?

the Aster is clearly for the same sort of customer who might buy the
Apple Watch (18 Karat Gold) Edition on an impulse. A premium build and
high grade components are a given. The Aster is designed to stand out in
a meeting room; to show everyone who’s boss. It’s a beautiful blend of
titanium and a calf leather back (you can customise the colour and the
finish). The power button and volume rocker merge seamlessly into the
right spine, crafted with titanium. A door on the rear of the device
doesn’t just house the micro-SIM slot but also has the signature of the
Vertu technician who built your mobile device. Yes, similar to a
seasoned craftsman who handcrafted a pair of leather loafers. At 193g
its reassuringly heavy. Disappointingly, there’s no fingerprint sensor.

The Aster is the entry-level (what?!) smartphone for the Vertu
brand; the soon to be launched Signature Touch will don the mantle of
the brand’s flagship device in India. The Aster packs a decent hardware
spec sheet; it’s certainly not 2016-proof but has enough firepower to
propel the device. At it’s heart is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core
2.3 GHz processor with 2GB of RAM. We put the Aster through our routine
tests and the results were average – 31749 on the AnTuTu benchmark and a
modest 2284 on PCMark. Clearly, these scores are not the benchmark that
prospective Vertu customers would go by but they all add up
nevertheless. Overall, the device handled multi-tasking and
low-intensive gaming quite admirably but the presence of a dated version
of Android (4.4 aka
KitKat) is a clear dampener. The 2275mAh battery packs enough power for
most users; we managed a full day (about 12 hours) with a mix of
4G/Wi-Fi, WhatsApp, 15 minutes of gaming, some camera usage and video
playback.

The Aster comes with 64GB memory on-board; there’s no extendable
memory option though. One of the big jumps is the 13MP camera. Vertu
turned to Swedish photography expert Hasselblad
for a superior camera experience. Hasselblad cameras were made famous
by the images clicked as part of the Apollo space program (when the
first humans landed on the moon). The Aster shooter produced some pretty
good results across lighting scenarios. The 2.1 MP front cam is almost
good enough for selfies in dim lighting; both cameras are protected with
sapphire crystal.

The 4.7-inch display is also reinforced with Sapphire crystal;
that’s something even the Apple iPhone would be envious about. The
display specs might be modest – 1920x1080 at 473 ppi, but it’s quite
vibrant and text is crisp. The speaker belts out solid sound too; just
in case you need to catch videos on the go. Aside from the superior
quality materials, the Vertu’s biggest draw is its bespoke concierge
service. You are just one click away from the best events in the world
or a table at a Michelin star restaurant. While multiple apps double up
as your personal digital assistant, Vertu’s concierge service is quite
simply inimitable and something other luxury smartphone users have not
managed to emulate.
If just hardware specs were the only yardstick to evaluate a device,
clearly the Vertu Aster is not at the top of the heap. Aside from the
snob value, the Vertu experience is akin to a Saville Row suit; truly
unique in the mobile space. Just in case you have a hefty festive bonus
to splurge, the Aster might be one of the ways to spend it.
You've got your
apps, your browsers, your 3D Touch. What about a luxury phone that
represents your elite lifestyle?
British luxury phone brand Vertu announced the New Signature Touch
on Thursday. Depending on which one you get, from the jet calf model to
the pure jet red gold, it starts at $9,000 and goes up to $19,000.
You'll also have the option to personalize it with various colors,
leathers, rare metals and an engraving.

Each phone is handmade in England. The cases are made from natural
hides and leathers, including calfskin, lizard and alligator, all
sourced in Europe. The outer casing is Grade 5 Titanium, used in the
automotive and aerospace industries. The 5.2-inch 1080p scratchproof
screen is made from 130 carat sapphire crystal, and the earpiece pillow
is formed with Zirconia.

That's just the flash, though. Let's get into the tech specs. The New
Signature Touch runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The hardware includes the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with 64-bit computing on 8
CPU cores, which means faster and smoother usability. The 21 megapixel
main camera also has 4K video capture, and there's also a 2.1 megapixel
wide aperture front camera. There's also 64GB of internal storage and
4GB of RAM.

The luxury, allegedly, does not stop with the phone. The New Signature Touch comes with exclusive services,
making your phone "a passport to a world of possibilities." With the
phone comes a complimentary 18-month subscription to Vertu's dedicated
concierge service. Contact a lifestyle manager at any time via live
chat, email or telephone, and he or she will provide you with worldwide
assistance: securing priority bookings, offering personal
recommendations and other "local insider knowledge".
You'll get access to exclusive events like fashion shows,
members-only clubs, sporting events and cultural experiences like
exhibitions and red-carpet events — all because of an overpriced phone.
Lastly, and in probably the most practical of the additional
services, you get security features: Remote Assist technology, encrypted
communications services, global Wi-Fi connectivity via the iPass
network and the Lost Phone Service.

Edge just won't cut it. Vertu is offering the glamorous crowd a luxury
smartphone with high-end specifications with an even higher price tag.
Right off the bat, a Vertu smartphone looks (and likely feels) like a
true luxury item with its elegant handcrafted leather and titanium
case. The back plate opens via a gull-wing door for ease of access to
the nano-SIM slot and MicroSD.
Money can buy a lot of good things and, apparently, this includes better phone specifications.
A unit from the Vertue Signature Touch line offers 5.2-inch 1080p
(FullHD) LCD display with a virtually shatterproof and scratch-proof
Sapphire Crystal glass. Underneath, it runs with a Qualcomm Snapdragon
810 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, up to 2TB of expandable
storage with a MicroSD card, and a massive 3,160mAh battery.
The camera clocks in at 21 megapixels with f/2.2 aperture, dual-tone
LED flash, face detection, auto-focus, and 4K video recording on its
rear side. It is coupled with an inferior, but good enough 2.1-megapixel
front snapper for the million dollars selfie.
The new model from
the European luxury brand also offers support for Quick Charge 2.0, Qi
Wireless Charging, and NFC connectivity among many others.
Vertu's smartphones are expensive for a reason. A couple of thousands
of dollars will also get you "Dedicated Concierge" or the company's own
point-of-contact that acts as a personal assistant. This feature is
complimentary for 18 months.

To protect its high profile clientele, Vertu included encrypted communication
by Silent Circle and an option to wipe or locate a lost or stolen
smartphone. Partnership with iPass provides WiFi connection virtually
anywhere in the world.
The phone will also come with subscription to Life or Certainty
packages which will be your all-access pass to the world's most
glamorous, most exclusive clubs, parties, and closed-door shopping
events. Clearly, owning a Vertu phone will instantly grant you A
List status.
There are different variations of Vertu Signature Touch units to
choose from. The cheapest, entry level unit sells for US$9,000 (about
AU$13,000) and it offers a calf leather case in either black or red.
Next is a lizard skin smartphone in purple for US$10,100 (about
AU$15,000) or black for US$11,200 (around AU$16,00). Moving up to the
top of the reptile chain, an alligator skin encased smartphone sells for
US$13,000 (approximately AU$18,500) in black, US$14,000 (about
AU$20,000) in navy, and US$16,600 (around AU$24,000)in grey.
The most expensive unit is the quilted black calf leather with gold accents and it sells for US$19,000
Vertu understands your plight, which is why the luxury phone manufacturer just announced the Aster, a $6,900 hand-crafted smartphone constructed out of titanium.
The Aster will be offered in a range of back options which include
calf leather in black, pink or blue. For an additional, $2,200, you can
get a snake skin in black or orange, or you pay $9,700 to get the
handset covered in ostrich skin in brown or purple.
While Vertu's first two
devices in the Android segment were decidedly outdated by the time they
launched (at least in terms of the internal hardware), the luxury phone
manufacturer is looking to incorporate specs comparable to what the
rest of us call high-end devices. As such, the Aster comes with a
4.7-inch 1080p display on a 5.1-inch 117 carat sapphire screen (because
114 carats just don't cut it anymore), 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801
CPU, 13-megapixel Hasselblad-certified camera with dual LED flash, 2.1
MP front camera, NFC, Qi wireless charging, Wi-Fi ac, 19-band LTE
connectivity and a 2,250mAh battery.

The device also comes with front stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus
tuning and noise cancellation. One of the reasons as to why the Aster
is more affordable is that it comes with a six month subscription to
Vertu's concierge services as opposed to the yearly plan that is
standard with higher-end models. As well as making the device more
accessible, Vertu has announced that it will enter the e-commerce
segment with Vertu Digital, through which interested customers will be
able to customize and order their handsets online instead of visiting a
boutique.

Bentley is a brand synonymous with luxury and quality, so
when the company lends its name to a new smartphone, it’s not unfair to
expect something pricy, but jaw-droppingly brilliant. You’d expect this
bauble to be super-luxurious, with hardware that makes top-end
smartphones from other vendors want to go and weep quietly in a corner.

ADVERTISING

Except, that’s not what’s happened. Instead, Bentley teamed
up with another luxury firm called Vertu to bring the world the Vertu
Signature for Bentley smartphone, a badly-specced phone with 2008-era
hardware and software.

Its claims of luxury stem from its ridiculous £14 500 starting
price tag (R275 550), its “Beluga Calf-skin Leather” backing and access
to an exclusive “Vertu Concierge” service that is apparently “…designed
to meet your every need, 24/7″. Press a button on the phone, and a real
person picks up, ready to do whatever it is you need doing. Within
reason, of course… probably.

Central to the phone’s design is the use of high-end,
super-expensive materials like an 83-carat, nigh-on unbreakable sapphire
screen, a key pad that uses 4.85 carat ruby bearings and, perhaps most
importantly to Bentley owners, the option to personalise the phone to
look as much like the Bentley they drive as possible.
That’s all well and good if your ambitions include looking
like the world’s most pretentious douchebag, just don’t let anyone
use the thing because, quite frankly, they’re going to laugh at you.

That’s because it uses Nokia’s very old Series 40 operating
system from the days of its mid-tiered feature phones – yes, really –
and is powered by a processor Vertu’s page doesn’t list. If that wasn’t
bad enough, the phone sports a TWO INCH LCD screen, has a keypad rather
than touch functionality, 4GB of internal storage and a battery so tiny
it only provides five and a half hours of power,
For a phone that costs considerably more than the annual
salary of a mid-level manager in a big company, that’s beyond laughable,
leading us to believe the target market is indeed rich twits with more
money than sense.

And that starting price? That’s what you’ll pay if you don’t add gold, titanium, platinum, diamond, or alligator skin to it, all of which are options, apparently.
Vertu has other phones on offer that are better-specced and
prettier than this one, of course, so the fact that this one is even a
thing is a puzzle all of its own.
If you were super-rich and drove a Bentley, would you pick one up? After all, what’s a R275 000 phone when you drive a R4m car?

Me, I’d rather have a four-GPU, three-screen 12K PC gaming rig setup than this thing, but then I have more sense than money.
luxury devices and have kept tabs on the company over the past few
years. Their latest creation, the Vertu Pure Jet Red Gold, is actually
one of their more “plain” smartphones, but it will still set you back a
staggering $23,100.
The last time we checked in on Vertu, they had just released the Vertu Clous De Paris
for Valentine’s Day. The month isn’t over, but they are back with
another device dubbed the Vertu Pure Jet Red Gold. It may lack some of
the glitz and glam of its predecessors, but it is one of the classier
handsets you’ll see – if you actually ever see one in person. Not many
folks will be walking around with a Jet Red Gold in their pocket.
The Vertu Pure Jet Red Gold may be stylish, but its specs are the
same as what you’ll find in several of their other handsets. That said,
it has plenty of power with a Snapdragon 801 and 2GB of RAM and you’ll
have plenty of storage with 64GB. Other features to note include
wireless charging, hi-fi speakers, a 13MP rear camera and a 4.7-inch FHD
display covered in Sapphire crystal.

As for the extras, you will get 1-2 months concierge service along
with access to their “Life” and “Certainty” programs. A few of the perks
from those programs include VIP sporting event packages, Silent Circle
communication services and access to private members clubs. The titanium
and leather design with the Red Gold accents scream luxury as well.
If you have a whole lot of extra cash lying around or just really
love smartphones, the Vertu Pure Jet Red Gold can be yours for $23,100.
It’s still cheaper than some of the gold and diamond encrusted devices
we’ve seen in the past, but it’s certainly not going to be a device for
everyone.
manufacturer of luxury, handmade mobile phones…established in 1998 by
the Finnish manufacturer of Nokia. They were subsequently sold to a
private equity group but retained a 10-percent share. By the end of
2013, Vertu has sold 350,000 devices and seem to be most popular in
Russia, Asia and the Middle East. The idea was if people are willing to
spend $20,000 for a watch, why not a handcrafted smartphone. Vertu
refers to them as “mobile communications instruments,” not simply mobile
phones. While they make their own models, they also produce limited
edition devices and have collaborated with the likes of Ferrari and
Bentley. While there is no questioning the quality of the workmanship,
their specifications are usually ‘yesterday’s news.’

Vertu’s latest model belongs to their Signature Touch collection,
will run you $23,100 and is aptly named, Pure Jet Red Gold. It has
solid red gold features, including the volume control keys, power/lock
key and on the pillow support. The main body is made out of Grade 5
titanium coated in black PVD and wrapped in black calf leather, “from
the Alpine region of Europe and crafted by one of the oldest
tanneries.” Its design makes a bold and beautiful statement…which is
exactly what it is supposed to do.

The Pure Jet Red Gold model uses only “world-renowned” companies such
as Bang & Olufsen (B&O) for its sound components, Hasselblad
for its camera, Qualcomm for its processor and even the ring tones are
produced by the London Symphony Orchestra. They offer 24-hour worldwide
concierge service, exclusive access to cultural events and 24/7 remote
access technical support and Kaspersky anti-virus and anti-theft
protection.
As far as technical aspects – it has a 4.7-inch FHD sapphire crystal
display with 473 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon
801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and 64GB of internal memory.
It sports a 13MP main camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash. The
front-facing camera (FFC) is 2.1MP for video chatting. It also comes
with 13mm x 18mm stereo high fidelity speakers with built-in Dolby
Digital Plus surround sound support. The battery is 2275mAh and is Qi
compatible for wireless charging. It comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0,
NFC support and a microUSB port. It is running on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Please look over the photo gallery and you can see what your $23,000
will buy you…but you know the old saying, “If you have to ask the
price…”
Last month we reported
about the luxury phone market as an emerging growth sector in the
smartphone market. Well, add another beautiful phone to the growing list
of luxury phones. Bellperre has announced a new phone, the Touch, which
will try to compete against the likes of Vertu
and Lamborghini. A luxury smartphone is a phone that cost over $2,000
USD. The Bellperre certainly fits that criteria with a price tag of
around $3,000 to $3,430 depending on the types of materials you wish to
use for your work of art.

The Bellperre Touch is made out of 236L
stainless steel and your choice of either American buffalo or alligator
leather that comes in a plethora of colors. The cool part about the
leather is what the company calls, “Touch Through Leather Technology.”
This comes in the form of a leather strip located below the screen that
allows for touch controls such as the home and back button. The Touch
also comes with a 4.9” Super AMOLED display that has sapphire crystal
glass to reduce scratches and fingerprints. But don’t let the beauty of
it’s outside fool you. This phone is every bit tough and is capable of
taking the normal impacts as well as being flame resistant…you know, in
case you want to make a call while grilling some steaks poolside.

In terms of other specifications, the
Bellperre Touch is average. It has a dual-core processor running at
1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 48GB of internal storage. It also comes with NFC,
Bluetooth, and also has LTE. These features are combined with an
8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front camera. The display
has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

The specs are about the same as a normal
mid-range phone. However, take into consideration that the Vertu cost
over $20,000 so this phone is definitely a bargain in terms of the
luxury phone market. Still it would be nice to have a better display,
better camera, and a much better processor if you are going to shell out
$3,000. But the point of the luxury phone market is not about specs, it
is about looks and status. The Bellperre Touch certainly delivers on
both of those requirements. It should be noted that these phones are
assembled by hand and thus no two phones are alike. So for $3,000 you
get a one of a kind device that is beautiful and elegant and sure to
turn a few heads.

Vertu understands your plight, which is why the luxury phone manufacturer just announced the Aster, a $6,900 hand-crafted smartphone constructed out of titanium.
The Aster will be offered in a range of back options which include

launched (at least in terms of the internal hardware), the luxury phone
manufacturer is looking to incorporate specs comparable to what the
rest of us call high-end devices.

The device also comes with front stereo speakers with Dolby Digital
Plus tuning and noise cancellation. One of the reasons as to why the
Aster is more affordable is that it comes with a six month subscription
to Vertu's concierge services as opposed to the yearly plan that is
standard with higher-end models. As well as making the device more
accessible, Vertu has announced that it will enter the e-commerce
segment with Vertu Digital, through which interested customers will be
able to customize and order their handsets online instead of visiting a
boutique.

For the average consumer, you have your basic entry-level smartphones
that probably won’t cost you more than $100, but if you wanted
something better, you could opt for flagship models that will cost you
anywhere between $500-$700. However there are models that are priced
even higher and not because of its hardware specs, but rather the
materials that they are made with. You might have heard of Vertu, the
company that specializes in luxury phones, and they’re back with a new lineup of smartphones for their Diamond collection.

These
smartphones are based on Vertu’s Signature Touch and Vertu Aster
smartphones, depending on which model you are going for. The top of the
line model is the Pure Jet Alligator Diamonds which uses the Vertu
Signature Touch as its base. It will feature 124 white diamonds that
have been set on a pillow of gold.

It features white gold detail on the stereo sound bar, a jet-black
ceramic pillow, and will also sport alligator skin that wraps around the
back of the smartphone. This bad boy will set you back a whopping
€15,900. If you’d rather not spend that much, there is also the Diamonds
Red Alligator which is based on the Vertu Aster.
This phone will
feature 55 white diamonds, red alligator skin, and will skip on the gold
detailing. It will be priced at €8,900 which still isn’t exactly cheap
or affordable by any means, but still cheaper than the Pure Jet
Alligator Diamonds.
The British manufacturer and retailer of luxury phones has now
collaborated with Bentley for its latest take on mobile phones — the Vertu for Bentley.
The Vertu for Bentley provides luxury car owners with a mobile device that is well suited for their Bentley vehicle.
Aside from carrying the popular Bentley trademark and Vertu's
traditional features, the smartphone reportedly comes with decent specs
and is expected to show off reliable performance.
Taking after a high-end smartphone,
the Vertu for Bentley is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm
Snapdragon 801 processor, although its RAM has not yet been detailed.
Nonetheless, the device has been speculated to come with 2 GB of RAM.

The company has specified that the Vertu for Bentley will come with a
64 GB internal storage and will have a 1080p display in its 4.7-inch
screen. Interestingly, the screen is well protected by sapphire crystal
glass while the body of the smartphone comes with calf leather.
Titanium back plates can be opened to show the signature of the
manufacturer behind the device whereas a ceramic pillow can be found at
the top of the phone, revealing a distinct feature similar to Bentley's
vehicles. The car company's logo can also be seen in the metal wings in
the front of the device near its mouthpiece.

The latest Android 4.4 version has been integrated into the
smartphone and its 2275 mAh battery cell is expected to last up to a
maximum of 380 hours when on standby. Vertu's collaborative effort with
Dolby and Bang & Olufsen will also be experienced first-hand by
users once they begin turning up the phone's tunes.
The Vertu for Bentley will be made available this November with an estimated price of $16,500.
While the device will reportedly be released as a limited edition
smartphone with only 2,000 handsets to be manufactured, Vertu's
partnership with Bentley will still generate four other luxury mobile
phones in the future with details still to be announced.
Vertu developed the phone alongside British auto maker Bentley Motors Ltd as part of a five-year partnership. The smartphone costs £10,700
(US$17,215). It was developed specifically for Bentley car owners and enthusiasts.

"Exclusive Bentley content will appeal to drivers, travelers and brand enthusiasts, through a partnership that delivers on both technology and touch." said Wolfgang Dürheimer, CEO of Bentley Motors.

"Today, we see the marriage of two great brands with an international presence and quintessential British heritage and character."
Vertu for Bentley sports a frame made of calf leather using Bentley's classic signature. The phone was built from titanium and assembled by hand.
It has a 4.7 inch display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution and comes with Bentley's famous logo on the front. It runs the Android 4.4 kitkat operating system and supports 4G LTE, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity.

Under the hood, it has a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and a 64GB memory and is powered by a 2,275 mAh battery.
Vertu collaborated with Bang & Olufsen and Dolby for the phone's
sound tuning. The British company also worked with Swedish camera
equipment maker Hasselblad on the phone's 13 megapixel camera.

Vertu integrated a 24-hour concierge service with the phone along with a 12 month subscription that provides drivers with a dedicated manager and assistance.
"We're confident that the Vertu for Bentley phones will appeal to our mutual customers' desire for sophistication, craftsmanship and precision engineering." said Massimiliano Pogliani, Vertu CEO.
Vertu announced the release of the Aster, its “mid-tier” luxury phone,
starting at $6,900, although it hardly qualifies as just that.
The titanium Android device is the company’s follow-up to the
Constellation and Signature Touch devices. But, unlike Vertu’s previous
iterations, the Aster is slightly less expensive and, with its beveled
sides and rich color palette, created with a female consumer in mind.

Each Vertu device is handmade in England by a single craftsman. They
come with Dolby Digital Plus virtual surround sound (ensuring better
sound quality than many televisions), six months’ complimentary access
to global Wi-Fi and access to exclusive services, including Vertu Life
and Vertu Certainty, an anti-theft, anti-virus system that includes data
encryption and remote assistance.
But perhaps the most useful of the services, especially for the world
traveler the company considers its main clientele, Vertu Classic
Concierge cultivates experiences for the user depending on the city he
or she is in. So, whether you’re vacationing in Paris or have a business
trip in London, someone who lives in the city will be on the other end
of the line to give you suggestions and tips.
But for $6,900, customers will receive plenty more, including a
Hasselblad-certified 13mp rear camera with a sapphire crystal lens and
4.7” full HD display, also protected by the 5.1” sapphire crystal
screen. The handset also features a Snapdragon 801 Quad-core processor
and LTE 4G capability.

The differences between the Signature Touch’s $10,800 base price and the
Aster include the sound quality, services offered (the Aster comes with
a shorter concierge subscription, just six months instead of 12,
although users can renew it) and material. But with exterior options
including calf, snake or ostrich skin (which increases the price to
$9,700), it’s hard to be too disappointed.
We’ve told you that Vertu is preparing to launch another smartphone and voila – it’s here. Like any other Vertu device, the Aster isn’t made for the mass market but for the very few who can actually afford it.

The
company’s latest piece of jewelry starts at £4,200 (about $6,785 or
€5,350) depending on the materials being used. The phone’s body,
handcrafted in England, is made out of exquisite materials such as
“Grade 5 titanium alloy” as well as various types of leather (calf,
karung and ostrich).
Specs wise, the Aster packs a 4.7-inch
“virtually scratch-proof” sapphire crystal display with full HD (1080 x

at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, LTE, NFC, Dolby Digital
Plus surround sound and a 2275 mAh battery. When it comes to the
camera, users get a Hasselblad-certified 13MP rear camera with dual LED
flash as well as a 2.1MP selfie shooter.

Alongside the device
itself, Vertu phone buyers also get to benefit from access to exclusive
services like Vertu Classic Concierge, Vertu Life, and Vertu Certainty.
The
Aster measures 143.4 x 69 x 11.2 mm and has a weight of 193 grams. It
is by far the best luxury smartphone we’ve seen to date. Alas, because
of its steep price tag, owning it will be the privilege of the very few
people on the planet. And if you happen to be in that group, please
consider advertising on IntoMobile.
that "technology will be more a merging factor and not a
differentiation point" for his phones. That's literally the case with
the new mid-tier Aster launched today: This titanium Android device is
identical to its flagship sibling device internally, just wrapped within
a more contemporary and unisex design. We're looking at a 4.7-inch
1080p display, 5.1-inch 117 carat sapphire screen, 2.3GHz quad-core
Snapdragon 801 chipset, 13MP/2.1MP cameras (the former certified by
Hasselblad), 64GB of internal storage, 2,275mAh battery, front stereo
speakers, NFC, Qi wireless charging and great LTE compatibility (though
no love for China, for some reason). With the specs out of the way,
let's look at why this swanky phone starts from $6,900 or £4,200.

While the Aster is technically the successor of the Constellation,
the former avoided the path of screen enlargement (from the Ti's
3.7-inch screen to the Constellation's 4.3-inch) while managing to bring
back the iconic V-pillow. By keeping the same 4.7-inch screen size on
both the Signature Touch and the Aster, Vertu could risk losing appeal
to a wider audience, especially in China where phablets are the norm. But Pogliani opted for a more sensible strategy.

"Vertu is not here to follow general mass market mobile trends; our
technology is leading edge but it doesn't have to be bleeding edge. The
same goes for the physical design of Vertu products. The nature of our
customers and of our products mean that we have to develop what is right
for them, not follow generic broader industry design themes that may be
more fleeting than those of the luxury market.
"Many of our customers desire and appreciate compact size Vertu
products that comfortably fit the inside the pocket of a well-tailored
suit or in an expensive clutch bag."
The CEO added that this also has nothing to do with the cost of
sapphire, and he even said it's possible that his company might offer
larger screen sizes in the future.
Much like the other Vertu handsets, the Aster is offered with a range
of skins and colors. The base price gets you calf leather in black,
pink or blue, while £5,600/$9,100 gets you shiny snake skin in black or
orange (the latter is this author's favorite), and you can max out at
£5,900/$9,700 -- a "little" below the Signature Touch's £6,750/$10,300
base price -- for ostrich skin in brown or purple. This is pretty much
why the Aster comes in at 11.2mm thick, which is just a tad more than
the Signature Touch's.
is best known for making ludicrously expensive mobile handsets that are
slathered with gems and precious metals. The Vertu Ti is the firm's
latest effort, an Android-powered smartphone that features a titanium
chassis and a sapphire-crystal screen.
Starting at $9,600 (with
design variants that hike the price up to nearly $20,000), this
ridiculous mobile phone will do little to tempt discerning shoppers. If
you're curious as to what nearly $10,000 worth of smartphone gets you
however, then read on.

Design
Looking like a prop from a bad science fiction serial, the Ti lacks the
demure styling of the iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy S3, instead opting for
all-out glam. This translates into leather wrapped around the body of
the phone, glossy chromatic metal edging, and an angular logo badge atop
the screen, which makes the Ti look like it's permanently frowning. On
the back there's a chunky module that houses the Ti's 8-megapixel camera
and an LED flash.
Vertu boasts that its choice of pricey materials
make the Ti practically indestructible. The titanium case, the company
claims, is roughly five times tougher than the cases around most cell
phones, and flexes less than 1mm when a 500 Newton force is applied.

That's
handy if you often find your phone slipping out of your hands, but bear
in mind that for a device that's five times more durable than rival
mobile devices, you will be dropping down more than 10 times as much
cash. Ouch.

Vertu also claims that the Ti's sapphire-crystal screen was
thoroughly tested, with a single drop of a 110g ball bearing, in fact --
an experiment I can't see anyone who spends this much on a mobile phone
hurrying to replicate. Beyond knowing that your display is several
degrees sturdier and fancier than anyone's in the room, however, I
suspect there's little real benefit in this panel when it comes to using
the touch screen or in terms of picture quality.

Concierge, and Android software
Buying the Ti does net you
access to Vertu's white-glove Concierge service, which puts a real-life
human on speed-dial for tasks like booking travel tickets or
accommodation. Two other Vertu apps are touted: Life, which offers
articles and tailored information that Vertu thinks will suit you
(perhaps selected editorial from What Palace and Doric Column), and
Certainty, which sounds like a cloud storage service for backing up your
phone. All three of these fancy-pants services are summoned by tapping
the ruby button on the back of the phone.

The
Ti is powered by Android, giving you access to thousands of apps via
Google Play, and home screens on which to plant widgets and organize
apps. Unfortunately the Ti runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, rather
than 4.2 Jelly Bean, the latest edition. As such you'll miss out on
treats like Photo Sphere and Google Now -- a service that provides
information based on factors such as your location and search history.
Not-so high-end hardware
The behind-the-curve features don't end with older Android software, as the Ti is stuffed with components that would see the LG Nexus 4
stifling a grin. You get a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, rather than the
quad-core chips that are becoming standard in dramatically cheaper
smartphones, and a screen that's smaller than the iPhone 5's.

As well as the 8-megapixel camera on the back (which nabs 1080p video
capture), there's a 1.2-megapixel snapper on the front, for video chats
with your butler or yacht crew.
Vertu's made room for 64GB of
storage inside this phone, however, which is a healthy amount. When
you're paying this much, plenty of space for your movies and music is
the least you'd expect, though. NFC is also along for the ride, but
while this contactless technology has potential and could soon be used
to make mobile payments in shops, there's not a great deal you can do
with it currently.

Sky-high prices
The Ti starts at $9,600 for the black leather version you can see
above, though if you want something really luxurious, there are even
more-costly iterations available: $11,500 gets you a "Pure Black" model,
and a "Black Alligator" option sets you back $12,800. At the very top
of the range is a "Titanium Red Gold Mixed Metals" offering, which costs
an eye-watering $19,900. Note that paying more only gets you pricier
materials, while the specifications stay the same.

Hands-on I
can verify first hand that the Ti feels quite heavy to hold, likely as a
result of all the materials crammed into its chassis. It's chunky too,
and is a lot thicker than oh-so-slim mobiles like the iPhone 5. To its
credit, while the processor isn't the fastest in the West, the Ti
doesn't feel sluggish to use, with menus and apps loading with a
pleasing snap.
In the flesh this phone does look -- and feel --
luxurious, thanks to plenty of glistening metal detail and sturdy build
quality. It exudes opulence, but glittering jewels and alligator skin
won't satisfy those craving a simple, demure smart phone, and the
ostentatious look of this phone could put potential buyers off just as
quickly as the high price tag.
Would you ever pay thousands of
dollars for a phone, or do you find the current crop of top-tier mobiles
more than expensive enough already? Fee free to voice your opinion in
the comments section.
launched VERTU TI, a new contemporary smartphone powered by Android.
Based around a titanium case that has been used for its strength,
elegance and low weight, VERTU TI also uses leather accents as well as
the largest sapphire crystal screen ever engineered at 3.7 inches. The
sapphire crystal renders the screen virtually scratch proof and it is
tested to be four times stronger than other smart phones in terms of
impact resistance. VERTU TI’s titanium case is around five times
stronger than other smart phones, deforming less than 1mm when a 500NM
force is applied.

The result is a phone that feels solid and beautifully crafted in the hand while offering unrivalled durability.
VERTU TI combines distinctive Vertu design cues, such as the ceramic
pillow and exposed watch screws, with a clean overall aesthetic, the
result of which is a product that conveys a timeless elegance.

VERTU TI is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich operating system,
which in combination with the devices 1.7 GHz processor makes for an
intuitive, highly reactive and enjoyable experience. Other features
include an 8MP rear camera with auto focus and twin LED flash, a 1.3MP
front facing Skype compliant camera, 64GB internal memory and secure
near field communication technology.

Another example of Vertu’s continued commitment to superior
craftsmanship and engineering is VERTU TI’s audio ability. Its 11 x 15
mm rectangular drivers are acoustically integrated into the chassis to
maximize frequency response and level. The result is an unrivalled
symphonic sound from the phones own stereo speakers.
A new feature of VERTU TI is the Vertu key, which provides instant
access to a curated world of benefits and services available via a
global team of professionals available to customers wherever they may
be, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. These services include Vertu
Certainty, which helps protect the device, its data and, where
necessary, the customer. Vertu Life - tailored information, articles and
benefits - sits alongside Vertu’s famous Concierge Service.

Massimiliano Pogliani, Vertu’s Global Chief Marketing and Communications
Officer, said, “VERTU TI is the most rounded product that we have ever
designed. The new Android platform and elegant physical presence
combined with Vertu’s renowned curated benefits and services deliver a
unique and exceptional proposition.”

Vertu’s Head of Global Design, Ignacio Germade said, “VERTU TI is a
pivotal product for Vertu. It is where the timelessness of Vertu design
meets contemporary technological elements. Long-standing Vertu customers
will appreciate the style, the weight and the materials while those yet
to experience Vertu products will engage with the clean, elegant lines,
superior feel and contemporary operation.”
“As Vertu continues to grow, we will develop a design language that will
satisfy the large number of our customers that appreciate classic
simplicity of ranges such as Signature, while reaching out to new
customers with hand crafted, elegant designs and technology that engages
and inspires.”

Vertu President and CEO, Perry Oosting said, “VERTU TI is our most
significant product for a decade. Android 4.0 delivers a proven and
intuitive environment for users while the design and craftsmanship of
the handset remains uniquely Vertu. Vertu has pioneered and led the
luxury mobile phone sector since we began in the late 90s and the great
depth of our knowledge and experience can be seen in VERTU TI. There is
nothing else like it.”
VERTU TI now means that our customers can leave the house in the morning
with just this phone in their pocket or bag without the need for any
other device.”

Each VERTU TI is handmade in England by a single craftsman at Vertu’s
state-of-the-art headquarters in Hampshire. It is then signed by that
craftsman on completion of a rigorous testing and detailing process
before being shipped to buyers via one of over 500 stores around the
world. Vertu’s global sales turnover rose for the third consecutive year
in 2012, continuing a trend that has seen sales growth every year since
2002, barring only 2009. A strong product roadmap is in place to ensure
that this trend continues over the coming years.
allow them to keep pace with the fast moving technology market. The
Camstar system will also simplify the interface and support the SAP
      enterprise business solutions.

The Camstar solution replaces legacy systems at three Vertu
manufacturing sites located in Europe and China. The company will
standardize on a single shop floor system that will keep up with
changing technology, and will simplify how they interface with and
support our SAP enterprise business solutions. The platform project is
poised to ‘go live’ quickly across all products and facilities,
achieving quality enforcement, visibility, and streamlined automation
with key testers and equipment – and keep the total cost of ownership
      down.
“Every phone we make must adhere to exceptional quality standards for
performance and user experience to delight our discriminating
customers,” said Neil Hooper, Director, R&D and OLS for Vertu. “We are
partnering with Camstar for their proven MES and Quality applications,
their expertise in our industry, and their international support
regardless of where our factories are today or might be tomorrow.”

Vertu selected Camstar for its unique robust out-of-the-box capabilities
combined with the flexibility of the user interface, change management
and configuration. The company can leverage a single MES to make,
communicate and enforce changes and best practices for machines, methods
      and other best practices.
quality, lightweight titanium casing for strength without compromise,
and symphonic sound tuned in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen and
with musical punctuation from the London Symphony Orchestra, here’s the
brand-new Vertu Ti: handmade in England and powered by Android. With a
price tag of $10,569, this super-expensive communication device is
notably the very first Android-powered smartphone from the house of
Vertu, the British luxury handset manufacturer which earlier delivered
the Constellation Candy, the Constellation Quest Ferrari that brings to life the spirit of iconic GT car, the Constellation Quest in pink for valentine’s days, and Constellation T, and the Vertu Signature Dragon phones
that mark Year of the Dragon, to name a few. Finished to perfection,
the Vertu Ti is handmade from 184 parts in England by a single
craftsman, and the name and signature of the person who assembled the
phone is laser inscribed onto the inside lid of the SIM card holder.

Skinned with a uniquely tailored user interface, the Vertu Ti runs
Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which combined with the device’s dual
core 1.7GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory, turns out to
be one of the most powerful Vertu handset to date, and delivers an
intuitive, highly reactive and powerful experience.

With engineered acoustics, this highly-expensive 180 g Android
smartphone, which is not 4G enabled, features a 3.7” sapphire crystal
screen, casing crafted from grade 5 titanium, 8MP rear camera, and 1.3
MP front facing Skype compliant camera.
Notably, Vertu had chosen Android over Windows as an operating system because it was more established.

Each device has a “concierge” button that connects the caller with a
global team who can provide localised advice and help with events and
restaurant bookings.
This luxury communication device is available in four versions; the
Titanium black PVD red gold mixed metals, titanium black leather,
titanium black alligator, and titanium pure black.

For many consumers, Apple iPhone 5 is presumed to be the most holy
smartphone available in the market. If you think like that, then better
check your facts, as Vertu Ti Ferrari Limited Edition smartphone, is now
officially announced.

Generally, Vertu made phones are known for fine craftsmanship and
exclusivity remains the biggest highlight of any luxury phone.

This time around, Vertu has collaborated with Ferrari, and the
result is in front of us in the form of Android powered Vertu Ti
Ferrari. The phone celebrates the style and great engineering behind
Ferrari F12berlinetta.

The look and form factor of Vertu Ti Ferrari, is inspired by
Ferrari's latest marvel. The exterior of the device has the good feel
factor of Ferrari. Made from the hand-crafted leather, the phone speaks
so much about the true Ferrari experience. The rear back panel of the
phone mimics Ferrari F12berlinetta in every sense. The device is
ultimate, considering the type of materials used to build Vertu Ti
Ferrari

"Following the sweeping design cues from the rear of the Ferrari
F12berlinetta, even the most challenging aspects of the phone's back
plate have been specifically styled to mirror the car. The iconic tail
lights have inspired the specially rounded camera housing while even
details that may go unnoticed - such as the tiny hexagonal screws
holding the back plate - are unmistakably Ferrari", as per Vertu

"In another first, two Ferrari leathers - Red and Black - form a dynamic
stripe around the casing of the phone. Stitched in the same style as
Ferrari seats, the soft leathers - as found in Ferrari GT cars - were
specially treated by Vertu to be strong enough to withstand the rigors
of use on a mobile phone".

The Vertu Ti Ferrari comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It has a
3.7-inch WVGA display. The processor is also powerful at 1.7GHz
dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon. There's an 8-mega pixel rear facing
camera with AF and twin LED Flash light. Also add a 1.3-mega pixel front
facing camera.

The internal memory stands at 64GB. The fitted battery is proficient to
give up to 7 hours of talk time. Other highlighted features include:
NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Bluetooth 4.0, and 3G connectivity, amongst more.
The phone weighs 188grams. You can contact Vertu for more information
about the pricing of the device. Stay tuned to GizBot for more updates.
Here’s
a refreshing alternative to those annoying pop ringtones: the latest
collaborative product from Vertu and Ferrari emits the bark of the F12
supercar to alert its owner to an incoming call…

Recent
times have seen British luxury phone-maker Vertu solidify its
partnership with Ferrari. Five years ago we saw the first Prancing
Horse-adorned mobile phone; now the company has finally released its
‘smart’ descendant, which makes use of Google’s Android operating system
and goes by the name ‘Ti Ferrari’.

In conjunction with Ferrari’s own styling studio, Vertu’s designers
reinterpreted elements of the F12berlinetta. Alutex – a lightweight
composite material used by Ferrari for its interiors – is used for the
‘pillow’: Vertu-speak for the part which makes contact with your ear
while on a call. Black and red Ferrari leather is also used, treated by
Vertu to withstand the rigours of everyday use.
The price of 12,500 euros might seem a little steep for a mobile
phone, but that does include a subscription to Vertu’s Concierge
service. Those wanting a hotline to Maranello shouldn’t wait too long
though, as the Ti Ferrari smartphone will be limited to 2,013 examples.

Nokia
has finished handing over control of luxury handset brand Vertu to a
private equity firm – though it does retain a 10% stake and can move
1,000 employees across to the newly independent company.
Those details emerged all of four months ago
when the deal with EQT VI was agreed, but what is new is the rumour
that Vertu may be about to drop its Symbian underpinnings in favour of
Android.

That's what TechCrunch is reporting,
anyway. The story goes that one-time Nokia vice-president Anssi Vanjoki
will be brought in to take the reins as CEO at Vertu, and will jump
platforms not to Windows Phone like Nokia, but to Android instead.
The rumour is completely unconfirmed, but if it does prove to be true
we'll be interested to see if Vertu can make a success of it. As a
luxury brand, Vertu has traditionally specialised in handsets that are
high on form (and price), but low on function. If the switch to Android
can help bring Vertu into the 21st century, we're all for it.
What we're unlikely to see is any kind of “told you so” moment
providing definitive proof that Nokia was wrong to embrace Windows Phone
and should have gone with Android itself in the first place. The two
companies are too far apart in the mobile pecking order for any kind of
comparison to mean anything.
Then again, if Vertu came downmarket and unleashed a Lumia-bothering
Android device or two at a reasonable price, things could get very
interesting.
The Vertu Signature Collection

The Vertu Signature is the first phone to be
hand-built by a single craftsman. It takes many years to learn the
necessary skills. Only the very best and most experienced Vertu
craftsmen are chosen. As a mark of pride, each handset is signed by the
master craftsman who painstakingly created it.

To create such an exceptional phone, Vertu has used only the finest
materials. The ‘sea of sapphire’ that makes up the face of the Vertu
Signature takes more than two weeks to create in a 2000°C furnace.
Almost impossible to scratch, it is so hard it must be cut, ground and
polished with diamond-tipped tools.
The patented keypad contains 4.75 carats of solid ruby bearings; each
one set in its exact place like a jewel. These ruby bearings slide on
pure sapphire crystal surfaces that are

aligned so that no part of the metal keys touches the
sapphire face of the phone. The result is no friction, no wear and the
world’s most satisfying click - a Signature trademark.
Service of the highest quality is literally built into each new
Signature: a unique patented button connects directly to Vertu
Concierge, a personal service offering expert advice and assistance
around the clock, around the world. Vertu Select is a mobile digest of
luxury news, reviews, events and services tailored exclusively to the
customer’s location and lifestyle. With news and product reviews from
the leading publications Robb Report and Elite Traveler, Vertu Select is
available exclusively to Vertu owners in English, Russian and Chinese.
