There was two penalties on the leafs though, one for holding of the stick on Tlusty at 10:05, and the other for holding on Gill at 18:41.

The third period was slightly more eventful, with there being a single goal scored, which was scored by the Sabres Gaustad at 8:49. The Leaf's were unable to tie it up, regardless of two power plays they had, and pulling Toskala at 18:33. Which left the score at 1-0 for the Sabres, making Ryan Miller receive a shutout.

The Toronto Maple Leaf's next game is against the New York Islanders tomorrow at 7:30PM ET. It is scheduled to be a home game for the Leafs. If your watching on TV, tune into Leafs TV. It was an overall great game, with both teams fighting for the puck, hoping to pick up a win!

The first period started off great! They were fighting for the puck quite well. The scoring started off about halfway through the period. At 8:13 Samuelsson received a two minute penalty for interference, putting Toronto on the power play. Then, while on the power play, and with pressure on the Red Wings at 9:00 Tucker took a shot and got the first goal of the game!

The second period started off great. But then at 16:59 it wasn't looking so good for Toronto when Lidstrom took a shot and scored, tieing the game up at 1-1, and ending the scoring for the second period.

Then in the third, with the game tied at 1-1, Samuelsson, determined to make up for his penalty early in the game, went in and scored on Toskala, putting the games score at 2-1 for the Detroit Red Wings. Determined to stay in the game though, two minutes later at 13:35 Sundin went in and scored on Hasek, tieing the game up once again at 2-2, with less than seven minutes left in the third. There was no more scoring in the third period, forcing the game to go into overtime.

With the game tied, and in overtime, both teams were trying hard to win the game, as they both knew only one team could come out as the winner. Thankfully, at 1:02 Antropov went in on Hasek, with the pass from Stralman, and beat Hasek! The Leafs won 3-2!

The Toronto Maple Leafs next game is February 13th against the Buffalo Sabres. The game beings at 7:30PM ET. If you want to catch the game live, then tune into MSG on your television sets to see the game! If you want to listen in by way of live radio, turn your XM Satellite Radio to station 207 for the full games coverage. Alternatively, you can listen to the game live at the Maple Leafs website, mapleleafs.com

Toskala Star of the Night!

Well, after a horrible game on the 5th, Toskala decided to step up to the plate, and was rewarded by being the first star of the game against the Montreal Canadiens! Congratulations Vesa!

The game started a bit late in terms of scoring tonight against the Canadiens, as the first goal was at 11:09. This was scored by the Montreal Canadiens Plekanec, which gave us fans a good scare, as most often the team with the first goal of the game wins the game. But refusing defeat, six minutes later at 17:24 Newbury scored for the Toronto Maple Leafs, making the game tied at 1-1, which ended the scoring for the period.

In the second period, refusing to leave the game tied, at 1:24 into the period, Tucker scored, giving the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead. Then later on in the period, the Montreal Canadiens Kastsitsyn got called onhooking at 18:23, giving the Leafs a power play. So, with twenty four seconds left in the period, and while on the power play Wellwood went it, and scores, putting it at 3-1!

Then the third period starts off similar to the first, with Montreal getting the first goal at 6:20 scored by Kovalev, putting the score at 3-2 and making the Canadiens one goal away from a tie. Sadly for them though, they were unable to get a goal by 19:12, so they decided to pull their goalie, giving them a one man advantage, and hoping to tie up the game. But then with 29 seconds in the game left, Tucker went in and shot on the empty net, sinking it, and giving Toronto a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Toronto's next game is against the Detroit Red Wings on February 9th. It is at 3:00PM ET, and will be aired by CBC, and XM Satellite Radio users can tune into station 207 to get the full games coverage. Best of luck to the Maple Leaf's!

Leafs Totally Annihilated

Well today's game was a complete disgrace to Leaf's fans everywhere. In, fact today's game has been so embarrassing that I don't even want to inform you about it.

Well, today's game was started off by Zednik, at 6:31 when he scored for the Florida Panthers off a power play, putting the Panthers in the lead, with the score only 1-0 Panthers. The rest of the period was scoreless, and was back and forth hockey.

The second period started off with a bang when ten seconds in, Horton scored for the Panthers, making Leafs fans lose hope. Then, a couple minutes later at 3:46, Jokinen scored again for the Panthers, putting it up to 3-0 for the Leafs, and the Leafs still had a slight chance of coming back. Then a few minutes later once again, at 8:19 Murphy scored for the Panthers, sealing the deal for the win, with it being 4-0 halfway through the second. This caused our star player Toskala to be pulled, and to be replaced by Raycroft, which was a good move, otherwise all of Toskala's stats would have gone downhill the way this game turned out.

The third and final period of the game started off slightly slower, but ocne it got rolling, boy did it ever. The first goal of the period was scored by the Panthers Montador at 8:14, making the game 5-0 for the panthers. Then a few minutes later at 13:49 Zednik scored his second goal of the night, putting the game at 6-0. Then exactly a minute later at 14:49 Zednik scored yet again, making him get a hat trick in today's game, and putting the game at 7-0. The final goal of the game was scored at 17:06 by McLean, making the final score of the game 8-0, with both Toskala and Raycroft being scored on four times.

Toronto's next game is an away game against the Montreal Canadiens, where they will hopefully have a better game than tonight. It is at 7:00PM ET on February 7th. You can watch on CBC or RDS, or you can listen in on XM Satellite Radio station 206.

Toskala Ends Losing Streak

Well, I have great news for all you Vesa Toskala fans! Our star player has ended his losing streak, after him and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 4-2 tonight!

Tonights game was a great game if your a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, that's for sure! The game's first goal was scored by Moore 9:32 into the game, with the assist going to Devereaux. Then five minutes later, at 14:27, Toronto's Tlusty scored during a powerplay, which was caused by a hooking call on Ottawa's Schubert. The goal was assisted by Stajan and Blake, putting the leafs at 2-0. However, less than a minute later at 15:18 Ottawa's Foligno scored, putting the game at 2-1, for Toronto.

The second period proved to be scoreless, although Toronto passed up many scoring opportunities on a 5 on 3 powerplay, along with a couple 5 on 4 powerplays.

The third period had just as much scoring as the first did, although Toronto maintained their lead throughout the period. The first goal of the period was by Neil, of the Ottawa Senators 1:32 into the period, which caused a scare for Leafs fans when the game became tied up. Thankfully though, a few minutes later at 4:28, Colaiacovo scored for the Maple Leafs, putting the Leafs ahead once again. The goal was assisted by Earl and Moore. Then a couple minutes later, the Maple Leafs scored once again, this time being put in by Blake, with the assist going to Stajan. The rest of the period was scoreless, and the Maple Leaf's won 4-2, breaking their losing streak.

Toronto's next game is February 5th against the Florida Panthers, at 7:30PM ET. This game is also a home game. It will be aired on SNET, and those of you listening to the game on XM Satellite radio, turn your receivers to station 207.

Three Game Losing Streak!

Well it seams that so far Toskala is in a losing streak, as he just lost his third game in a row, to the Carolina Hurricanes. This can't possibly be good for his save percentage and his goals against average.

The game started off well, when 3:20 into the game, Tlusty scored for the Maple Leafs. The rest of the period was scoreless, which was a good sign for Toronto, and Toskala.

All was going well, until thirteen minutes into the second period when Gleason scored for the Hurricanes at 13:19, making the game a tie at 1-1. The rest of the second period was event less, other than a roughing penalty on Tucker.

The third period was going well, with the game still tied at 1-1, until 3:29 when Walker scored for the Hurricanes, making it 2-1 for the Canes, which wasn't good. The race was then on for the Maple Leafs to stay in the game. By the end the game seemed hopeless for Toronto, until Mats Sundin scored for Toronto, with twelve seconds left on the clock, forcing the game into overtime, as it was now tied 2-2.

Overtime started well, but then Antropov at 2:34 was called for hooking, causing Carolina to get a powerplay, which ended the game for Toronto. At 3:20, still on the powerplay, Brind'amour scored for the Hurricanes, ending the game. The game ended 3-2, and Antropov walked out of the arena with a game misconduct.

Toronto's next game is against the Ottawa Senators at 7:00PM ET, on February 2nd. Toronto will be playing on their ice, so get your tickets fast. You can watch the game on RDS, or CBC, or if you prefer to listen in, it will be aired on XM Satellite Radio station 207.

Several Ways To Watch

Well I was on the Maple Leafs site a few minutes ago, and came across some great information! Turns out there are several ways to watch tonights game that is at the Hurricanes home rink.

The first way is on Leafs TV HD. This is one of the great ways to watch Vesa Toskala play, as it's in high definition, which means great picture quality!

The second way is to watch it online with Leafs TV interactive, which is only at mapleleafs.com.

And lastly, the third way is to watch it at select Cineplex theatres. This would be a great way to watch Vesa in all his glory, as the picture would be massive! Here are the participating Cineplex Theatres.

Galaxy Barrie
This is his second loss in a row with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs today faced the St. Louis Blues. It seemed at the start that it wasn't going to be Toskala's good game. Within the first 6 minutes, we were down 2-0.

The first goal was scored by Tkatchuk 1:18 into the game. Then a couple minutes later in the first, again Tkatchuk scored, making it 2-0 at 5:41 into the game. Toskala had had only two shots at the time, which both had sadly gone in.

Later on in the first, at 12:17 Blake scored with an assist from Tucker and Moore, making it 2-1 for the Blues.

The second period was scoreless for the first ten minutes and fifty-five seconds, but then at that moment Backes from the Blues broke that scoreless spell, making it 3-1 for the blues.

Five minutes later, at 15:11 Stajan scored for the Maple Leaf's making it 3-2, with the Leafs still behind by one. The assist went to Blake, and Tucker, for his second assist of the night.

The third period proved to be goalless, even though Toronto pulled their goalie for the last 1:15 of the game, and the game ended 3-2 as Toronto and Toskala recorded their second straight loss. With luck, this won't be the start of a long losing streak. Sadly, I think Toskala's GAA will be going up to 2.67.

Toronto's next game is against the Carolina Hurricanes, where the Hurricanes will be playing on home ice. The game is at 7:00 PM ET. You can watch on Leafs TV or listen in on XM Satellite Radio, station 207.

Toskala Backgrounds

Today, I made three great backgrounds for our Vesa Toskala fans out there! Two are for those of you who have a screen resolution of 800x600. The other one is for the now standard 1024x768 resolution monitors. Please give me feedback on what you think of them!

Background One

The first background is for our 800x600 viewers. The background has a picture of Vesa in the bottom left corner of it. Above him, it says his name and number. In the top right corner is the Toronto Maple Leafs logo, and below it says "The Passion That Unites Us All".

Background Two

This background is what I think is the best of the three. In it is a picture of Vesa making a save, with the same image in the background twice, only it is semi-transparent. To The left is his name and number, and in the center of the bottom is his teams name, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Background Three

This is the final background I made. In the preview it looks a bit messed up, but I assure you that it looks good full screen. In this picture, Toskala's face is in the bottom right corner, and he is looking up at three semi-transparent images of him making a save. Underneath the picture of his save, is his name and number.

To get the picture of the background, simply click on the picture you like, and then when at the pictures page, right click and hit set as desktop background.

If you like what you see, let me know, and I'll gladly make more!

Vesa Toskala Autographed Jersey

Well today I came across a great piece of merchandise. What I got here for you is a Vesa Toskala autographed jersey!

The jersey is in an auction. The auction is by Leafs fund and the money from the auction will go to helping children get the chance to participate in sports.

The current bid for the jersey, as of the time of posting this is $325, which is a great deal for this piece of sports memorabilia!

The autograph is on blue pen in the middle of the 5 on the back of his number 35 jersey.

The auction ends on Monday, Jan. 28th at approximately 7:10PM EST.

So go bid on this great jersey, and at the same time, help out poor children. It's like a win-win situation! Good luck, and if your the lucky one that manages to snag this jersey, leave a comment!

Click here for the auctions page

Loss For Toskala

Well, today the Leafs were unable to defeat the Capitals, unlike last night when they beat them 3-2. So, looks like Toskala collected a loss, bringing his total losses this season to 14.

Sadly, I think this will bring his save percentage back down to 0.906%, after last night it went up 0.001% from their win. Thankfully though, this can not bring down his goals against average, as the capitals only managed to score two goals.

The first goal against Toskala was 13:05 into the game, when the capitals had a power play due to a hooking call on Ian White, and Laich managed to score for the Capitals, with the assist going to Ovechkin, along with Fleischmann.

The second period proved to be a scoreless period for both the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Washington Capitals.

In the third, the scoring picked up a bit. It started at 4:54 into the period, where Devereaux scored for the Maple Leafs, making it a tie game at 1-1. Sadly, less than a minute later, Kozlov, scored on Toskala, with yet another assist from Ovechkin, and Backstrom's first assist of the night.

That was the last of the scoring for today's game, and the game sadly ended 2-1, with the win going to the Capitals.

The next game is a few days away, on Tuesday Jan, 29th, the first day back after the all star game break. The time of the game is 7:30MP ET. The game will be aired on Sportsnet. As it seems to always be, you can listen in on XM Satellite Radio, station 207.

The all star game is on Sunday, Jan. 27th, at 6:00PM ET. The main station it will be aired on is CBC, but it will also be aired on Versus, and RDS. You can listen in on XM Satellite Radio station 204, although I don't know why you would want to miss the game, as it will be a great game!

Toskala 3rd Star of Game

Well in today's game, Vesa Toskala had a great performance, which was proven when he got the 3rd star of the game! Congratulations Vesa!

For those of you that were watching the game, it was a great game to watch. Our star started in net this game, and held it the whole way through! Vesa did spectacular, blocking 30 of 32 shots!

In the first period there wasn't much scoring happening until 7:12 when Toronto's Kilger started it off, scoring the first goal of the game. In the first period there was no other goals.

Then 2:47 into the second period, Alexander Ovechkin took a shot, and it went by Toskala to tie it up 1-1. Late in the second period, Steen put the Leaf's ahead once again to make the score 2-1 in favour of the Leafs.

Then late in the third period, Semin scored on Toskala, making it look inevitable that the game would go into overtime, and that the Leafs once again lost it in the third period, as they seam to be doing lately. But then with less than a minute left Sundin skated down ice and scored on Washington to put the Leaf's ahead 3-2. The clock quickly ran out.

This sure does seam like a great start for Fletcher's general managing job! I wonder how he managed to pull this one off, or was it just luck that they won? I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow when the Maple Leaf's face the capitals once again, but this time away from home.

I am unaware of who will be the starting goalie tomorrow for the Leaf's but I'm guessing that it will be Toskala again, due to his win today and him getting the 3rd star of the game award.

Tomorrow's game is at 7:00PM ET. It will be aired by Leafs TV(HD), and you can listen on XM Satellite Radio station 207.

Ferguson Fired!

Well it seems it's finally happened. Fans and experts have been speculating all year that John Ferguson's time as Toronto's general manager was running short, and it has finally happened. Today the press release came out that Ferguson has been fired, so it looks like Toskala's team is going to have a new GM.

In his reaction he claimed that he "was proud of what he accomplished while working as a general manager". In my opinion, there isn't much to be proud of, as look at Toronto's record, but I'll refrain from my opinion.

It is said that around 10:30 this morning he was fired, but when asked what was said to Ferguson, he declined to say what was said, in a roundabout way.

Richard Peddie, who is the president and CEO of the Leafs, says that the "previous general manager" namely, John Ferguson, failed to find a direction for the team, and that "change and new direction is needed." Also, Peddie said "regrettably we did not win enough games, and did not reach our goal of winning the Stanley Cup" and "that team performance is falling short of what is expected."

Although, when talking about Toronto's previous general manager, Peddie said that "John is as good a man as you'll ever meet" and "we wish John well in further continuing his hockey career".

Peddie, when talking about newly assigned general manager Cliff Fletcher, who has been hired on a interim basis, says that Fletcher will help with "establishing a new foundation from which the next general manager can build." Peddie claims that he is confident in Fletcher, and that he is proud to have Fletcher, who has 50+ years of hockey experience, on the Toronto Maple Leaf's team.

So we give the best of luck to Fletcher, and hope that he can build a new foundation for the next general manager.

Quick Stats

Here are some quick stats about our star player:

The Basics

Age:30
Weight: 195
Height: 5' 10"
Born: May 20, 1977
Origin: Tampere, Finland

Information

Position: Goalie
Catches: Left
Shoots: Left
Number: 35

2007/2008 Season

Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
Wins: 16
Losses: 13
Goals Against Avg.: 2.69
Save %: 0.906

Stats courtesy of NHL.com

No Start For Toskala

Well, today our star goalie Vesa Toskala was not granted a start in their game against the New Jersey Devils. Toronto's backup goalie Andrew Raycroft start the game against the Devil's, and stayed in it until the end.

A few fans were outraged that Toskala did not play this game, but what do you expect? The reason is unknown as to why Toskala did not play today.

The first period of the game was scoreless, both teams ending the period with a 0-0 tie. The second period of the game was looking to be the same, but near the end with 2:32 remaining, the Devil's Zajac scored the first goal of the night, putting the Devil's in the lead.

Then, with 0:13 left in the second, a shot deflected off of Ian White's skate flew into the net, increasing the lead that the Devil's had on the Leaf's. Then in the third, Madden decided to increase the Devil's lead even more, and at 3:54 into the period, scored on Andrew Raycroft.

But then at only a minute later, Tucker ended Brodeur's shutout with a goal. Then later on in the third at 8:29 Kubina scored for Toronto's second goal of the night. But sadly, Toronto wasn't able to get any more rubber past Brodeur, and the Maple Leaf's suffered a 3-2 loss to New Jersey.

The Maple Leaf's face the Washington Capitals next on Wednesday, January 23rd, at 8:30 PM ET at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. You can listen to Wednesday's game on XM Satellite Radio on station 207.

Information

Hello, and welcome to my latest blog!
