Securing your files

A few days ago my sister asked me if she can add some more memory on the laptop. I guess it's been really slow on her. I told her that maybe it wasn't really the computer, its has more to do with her internet connection. The reason I said that is when I had the laptop it was actually running quiet fast. We've added 1 Gig of memory to it and it works great. However, after adding a few more programs/software to it I am sure it might need some more hard drive space.

I also heard about secure online backupwhich might work for all my files/images for designs. I have have bunch of these images that I don't have any more room to store on my hard drive. I been mainly using my laptop and rarely using the desktop. And so my laptop is getting full. Although I still have a bunch of hard drive space on our desktop computer since it has another hard drive just for my files. It's not an external one but we bought it specifically for my files.

If only I can get that one and put it in my laptop. For now I just have to check about the online backup. Sounds promising to me though.

Me and my sisters had fun cleaning it specially when we get to play around while making it shiny. This is old school cleaning where you actually have to put wax on the floor to make it shine. We use rags and slide on it to make it shine. Now that's what I call horsing around while at work.

Lack of Sleep

I have been sleeping really late lately. I can't seem to tune out my body and fall sleep early anymore since my body clock has been change. It's been really stressful lately due to the stuff that I am trying to finish for school.

I have these dark spots around my eyes that I have been trying to find some good eye cream in order to hide it. I saw a commercial one time on TV but I can't remember what was the name of it. Looks promising. It says that you just have to rub on the cream and the dark spot will disappear. Sounds promising right?

Well, I still have to do some research on what's the best cream I use. Or maybe I just have to train myself again how to sleep early. Really graving for that time where I can sleep early and wake up early. Not Sleep in the morning and wake up in the afternoon.

Any advice?

Holiday Gifts

Don't you just find it ridiculous as to how time flies. It hasn't been long when I was blogging about Christmas and that I am out of time for my Christmas cards and now Halloween is almost over and then here comes Thanksgiving and before I know it, Christmas is here and then New Year! POOP! Another year...2010. And then I will be adding another year to my age.

But, time doesn't have to pass us by without even knowing it. We have to make sure that for every holiday {actually everyday of your life} that comes along be thankful and we can make a difference.

We can do things to make it count. One example is by donating holiday gifts to a particular charity. You know helping someone goes a long way. It can give you the happiness that you can never imagine.

This holiday I really want to adapt a family or a child and be able to give them something. I just don't have the time to do my searching. But I still have a month to do the leg work for that.

Time for some drastic action

You know when something is not going your way and you just have to make a drastic action? Well, that's what seems to be the issue with our weights {grin}. I say our weight because me and my husband seems to be gaining more instead of losing weights.

I don't really want to use any diet pills as I know the side effects and I cannot be sure it will work for me. I know it works for some people but I am just too chicken to try it. What I really want to start is an exercise regime. A routine that I can work with and be able to do even with the hectic schedule in school and the stuff I am doing online. Same thing with my husband.

First, we really need to stop or gradually stop eating fast food. We have been eating a lot of fast food lately... I think it has more something to do with the fact that I don't wake up early so I can make some lunch so we don't end up buying fast food. We just got so accustomed to the convenient of fast food instead of meal planning. Don't get me wrong I love convenience but when it's not really helping us when it comes to our health, then it's not really convenient.

I weigh myself a couple of weeks ago and oh my goodness... I added some more weight! This morning my husband mention that he too gained not just a few pounds but more than a few pounds.

We just needed that boost and motivations... as without it, we always go back to this nasty habit eating fatty food. You know what will be really nice is this weights that we are gaining will instead go to my daughter. She could really use some more fats in her body.

Online Degree

Before I started going back to school to get another degree, I have never imagined that it will be this tough getting into the nursing program. The way it was set up is that, you can get all your pre requisites first and then some.. and later on apply for the program. Back in the Philippines, the moment you know what major you want to get, you can go ahead and apply for it during your first year. This means that when you take your entrance exam for the school, as long as you get the qualifying grade/score then you are good. It's sort of a ladder style... you start from the beginning and you work your way to the finish line.

However, over here... you have to get your pre requisites first then apply for the program. And your chance of getting into the program is like 1/100. You really have to be a straight A student in order to get in. And there are times that even though you are a straight A student, you might not even get in because they don't have enough sits. For this semester according to my professor out of 200 applicants only 48 students where selected. Okay, well... they could have atleast make it 50. Can you imagine that.

So now I am really stressed because I am not a straight A student. I mean I get by... For now I am looking at other options and schools that I can get into. It's not a guarantee... so much for having your education, you can't even get into the major that you like. No wonder there's a lot of people that after high school, they just stop and never bother to go to school.. Well its so darn difficult...

I just can't wait until I get a sit for this program in my school. I checked out some online nursing degree to see what are my options. I found a program where a school offered an adult program for people who already have a bachelors degree and wanted to get into the nursing program. So I might look at that. And then there's also some online university where they offer nursing career and you can do it online and the clinical of course will be in the different hospital settings in the area. That one might work for me just in case I don't get into the nursing program in my school {sigh!}.

With my search I also found Western Governor University that offers an online nursing program. They offer B.S. Nursing (RN to BSN online, B.S. Nursing,(Prelicensure), B.S. Health Informatics. The second choice will probably work for me. But I still have to do a lot of research as to how it will work. I still have a few.. well more questions really in order to convince myself to actually do the online program, plus I've read in their website that they are very selective on their students.

I just have to finish all my prerequisites so I can apply.

Growing Trend?

One of the thing that I noticed a lot with buildings is that they are being built really fast. I've noticed in our area that some of the building were built like in about a month.

So of course, I just have to asked my husband about it. Come to find out most of these buildings are steel buildings. No wonder they can build it really fast. And I think its cost effective specially for those who are looking at starting a storage building, warehouse, or an aircraft storage. I even saw a picture where they used it to add an extra space for their homes.

But really the reason I am blogging about it is that, we have a work, storage area for my husband in our backyard and we just never did replace it since we move here 3 years ago. And having one of these mini storage steel building is actually a great idea. One website will even let me choose the color combination for the building. It's like decorating my own home. Now all I have to do is figure out how much it is going to cost. If it's inexpensive, we might even have our garage replace. It's not attach to the house so we can basically take it down anytime.

Search Engine Listing

The first website I've created was our online store way back in 2005. Back then I don't have any kid, don't go to school and basically I have all the time to familiarize myself with creating websites. That time, I was using PHP and ecommerce for the online store. And I can say that it turned out pretty good. But we end up closing the store since I don't have a whole lot of time to manage it anymore, with a kid, school and house to attend to... not to mention the blogging and the designing business I've started.

But we still have the domain just in case we want to do it again. Although, I don't think it will be happening soon since my husband open up a new business (car and audio business).

When I was just starting with building websites I really don't have any clue as how to register the site to search engines and drive traffic to it so we can get more customer, but like I said I have plenty of time to do research on it and so adding the website to a web directory list was a breeze.

Today, there are so many SEO tools that you can use in order to build a great search engine ranking. So many that I can personally say that sometimes I don't know which one really works.

I remember a few months ago, I was talking to my friend back home and I was telling him that I've created another online community. And he was like, how can you even manage all of these and where are you getting all of these members... and I told him... social network.

Although I am still an old school when it comes to building links with other websites. I still like the idea gradually getting there and getting a quality link.

Book It Early and Save

Definitely the quote to live by if you are planning of booking for a hotel for your vacations.

Now I haven't been to Mexico and I don't think that I will be heading that way pretty time soon. I don't think I will be going anywhere until I finish school, but that doesn't mean that I can't check out great places for vacations.

Now I am used to warm weather all the time, beaches, resorts and pretty much any getaway that you can think of. So when think of Mexico, well its definitely one of the place that I want to check out, particularly the beaches. Plus I know someone who went for a weekend getaway and if my memory is right they went to Cozumel, Mexico. I saw the pictures and it was very nice. Makes me just want to book a vacation there now, only issue is I don't have any budget.

Although, I saw some great deals from bookit.com and they have
cozumel all inclusive packages that they are offering.

I particularly love the photo I have added above...it's so relaxing. I can just picture myself, hanging out in the beach and enjoying the day... reading a book...

In contrast to asthma, the limitation of airflow is poorly reversible and usually gets progressively worse over time."

Like other forms of tobacco use, cigar smoking poses a significant health risk like Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease depending on dosage.

I have been reading different type of diseases and the type of drugs that can be used to treat them so I got intrigued with this one. I just have to share it.

And did you know also that the explorer Christopher Columbus is generally credited with the introduction of tobacco to Europe. According to the history two of his crewmen encountered tobaccos for the first time on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas, presented in dry leaves by the natives.

Can the wrong diet pills cost you more than money?

Can it really? I'm not sure how to answer this one as I haven't really used any weight loss products. I been reading a lot of them and more so lately about drugs since I taking Pharmacology. But personally, I think that having the wrong decision on the type of weight loss will indeed cost you more than money. The only thing on this one is that you can never really tell which one will work for you unless you try it. It's always a trial and error, and using weight loss products is not an exception.

Not only that it will cost you money, but it will also cause some time and emotional burden. Although it will really help if before making your decisions, read more about the weight loss products that you want to take. Talk to your doctor on what you wanted to achieve. Find out what are the side effects of the pills and if it will fit your lifestyle. It is also a good idea to ask around for some opinions from other's who had used or is using the pills.

In the end, what ever it is that you decided it is still you who will benefit from it. Take some time... it never hurt.

Fall Preparations

It's officially over... summer. Fall is here and that means that flu season is just around the corner. If you haven't had any flu shots, you might think of getting one now. Me and my husband was just talking about that this morning on our way to the pediatrician for our daughter's yearly check up.

It's also a good idea to make sure that your house will be well ventilated and aired out specially if your have allergies or asthma, since it will be colder soon. One thing that you can do is to make sure that your vacuum cleaner is working fine and whenever you do some vacuuming it is really removing the dirt and dust from your carpet. Making sure that the 115334 vacuum motor is working perfectly. If you are a busy parent or mom like me, doing the chore at home really needs to be scheduled... specially if you have a big house (lucky for me, our house is tiny- less time cleaning).

On the outdoor side, you might want to make sure that you have put away the lawn furniture or cover them. Restock the supply of rock salt, putting the lawn tools away and put the snow shovels out. Don't forget the firewood for the fireplace.

Inside the home, these might be some of the things that you can do. Taking the summer clothing and making sure they are put away... nice and neat.. and then pull the winter clothing from closets.. don't forget the boots. Which reminds me, I just went and got me a pair of boots. First time ever since I move here in the US.

I still need to wash winter quilts and sheets to make sure they smell clean and feels comfy.

Fall is really here.

Health Check

As of the moment I am taking up pharmacology class and I find it really interesting to learn all these information relating to drug usages. I just finished reading chapter 6 and I can't believe how much information there is to know. We have this discussions where we are to choose different drugs and list about their trade names, generic, effects, manufacturer and so forth. And while I was checking some information online I read about glucomannan, which is a "water-soluble polysaccharide that is considered a dietary fiber. A food additive used as an emulsifier and thickener. Products containing glucomanan, marketed under a variety of brand names, are also sold as nutritional supplements for constipation, obesity, high cholesterol, acne vulgaris and type 2 diabetes." According to some information I've gathered online, there is some clinical support for potential health benefits but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved any product containing glucomannan for the treatment of these medical conditions.

It is interesting to know that a certain drug can be beneficial to some extent but can cause certain effects to others.

It's fascinating how much our nation had advance in the field of medicine that almost any health problems now has a specific drug for it. Almost anyway... but eventhough the technology is advancing, there are still a lot of great risk and extra precautions still need to be taken.

Thinking of vacation?

I think this topic is so overused for me. I said that because technically my summer vacation is over. Tomorrow or should I say later tonight I am back to school. Yup! School hasn't started yet but I am already thinking of vacation. I'm so bad. I just want to stay inside the house and read books. I started a bit late in reading Twilight and after that I started reading Harry Potter and I didn't get to finish the 7 books. I still have 3 more books to finish but I am putting that on hold. I'd probably start reading again this December when school is done, but I can't wait to get my hands on it. I actually bought the order of the Phoenix since it is the next one in my reading but I already have the 6 and 7, but haven't read them. I don't want to spoil the story by jumping to the next one.

But so much for my book reading, I need to stop now. I might not be able to stop when it comes to the books I am reading. I just can't stop comparing the book and the movie. On how much stuff that was not on the movie and how I understand more of the character and the story after reading them. My husband keeps teasing me on how I have been watching the movie over and over again...

It's just like when we went to our Gatlinburg vacations a couple of years ago. Wow! Was it that long already? I can't stop comparing the place to one of the tourist spot that we have in the Philippines. It's amazing how a particular place can remind me of the same area. I told my husband that I am taking him there when we go for a vacation... sometime... when we are done with school.
