Is
“the good fight"

an oxymoron?

This piece has no beginning and is open-ended.
My intention is to bring up questions - not answer them.
That’s all you!

I feel that if your eyes are open, you’ll notice patterns. Lately, I’ve met some extraordinary people, who have outright shocked me with their presence, as mirrors for my creative soul! Sometimes, you'll run into people who reaffirm your faith in the human spirit, who also serve as opportunities of self-discovery.

In the process, I’ve noticed patterns that I’ve been so firmly entrenched in, during my life, that I realize why my last name is McCall. I also see it in others – MANY others! So many others, that I smell a movement afoot (odor joke). This has reassured me that I’m not alone, except, perhaps, in jokes that only I find clever. Humor lightens the mood.

So.....the pattern goes as follows. I’ll be swimming along the stream of contentment, on spiritual highs – sharing, caring, and wondering at the beauty of it all. Then, suddenly, in the stream, a jagged outcropping of rocks bruises my attention:

“Today, the president signed a legislative bill that will cause everyone’s eyes to pop out of their skulls, land in the dirt and be eaten by wolves, blah, blah, blah, puppetry this, puppetry that, etc.”

Okay, I can handle a bruise. It hurts a little, but the sun is shining on the surface of the stream, so I return to the flow.

I’m floating, casually, when a sharp stick pokes me in the ribs:

“Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Wal-Mart eat babies, and use the baby bones as weapons to hunt and kill more babies!”

(Possibly true, by the way.)

OUCH – That REALLY fucking hurt!!! That stick jabbed me through my ribs and into my soul! I’m quite sure that I’ve lived hardships beyond the “average” American, but encased in the American bubble, I have only learned, secondhand, of atrocities so horrific that every part of my being sinks upon itself, as my eyes well up with tears.

My friends, I don’t wish to go into who’s to blame. I feel that if one wanted to uncover that mystery, it would be easier than- The butler did it. What I do wish to blossom within each of us, is the questioning of what we bring to the mix.

I’m not talking about the two archetypical sides that claim:

“I spread the word. I protest. I don’t buy from Wal-Mart. Therefore, I’m helping to change this fucked up world!”

or.......

“I support the troops. I work hard. I pay my taxes, just so these welfare cases can drain the best country in the world, the Younited States!!!”

What I’m really getting to, is the question I’ve subconsciously struggled with since I heard “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd, when I was 8 years-old.

Where is your energy?!!!

We all live in a cosmic soup. We’re a large collective of beings, each adding to the recipe. Add your grain of salt to the soup, and whether you taste it, or not, it does change the flavor. Convince 5 million more to change their attitude to salty, and the soup may taste like shit! Ahhhh, but then again, it depends on how salty you like your soup. I use this analogy to demonstrate the relativity of the matter, based upon your perception.

Yes, it all boils down to your energy. In the big-time, ultra-grand scheme, perhaps it matters not, but, in the moment, how does the energy you put out into the world personally make you feel?

Do you feel that you’re making a difference in the world by standing up against oppression and being a voice for the voiceless? Well, carry on, my brothers and sisters! Do you feel that visualizing a world of peace and abundance by raising the vibration of love in those around you is the way? Go with your vision!

Personally, I’ve vacillated between the two, my entire life, although the latter calls me.....gently. The point is that ANY way is okay. They’re all just flavors in the soup!

Do you feel that waving the flag, backing a candidate and providing for your family is what gets it done? Keep on truckin’.

It takes all kinds of people to make a world!

So.....back to the original question. Are you the ointment or the bacteria? Hopefully, I’ve written this piece from the perspective of the fly climbing out of the ointment.

Maybe, there is no wound, Grasshopper.

You are God!!!

I am that I am?

Okay, so, your parents were wrong.

You ARE the center of the Universe!

First, understand that I’m not using the word “Universe” like this is an astronomy class. It is a metaphor, representing “All that is”. You, know.....the same way your parents meant it.

Anyway, how does one go about discovering the center of the Universe? Well, wouldn’t you agree that a fine place to start a search is from right where you are – here and now – and go from there?

In case you haven’t been paying attention, within the past century, scientists (quantum physicists) have discovered what the spiritualists have been saying since the beginning of recorded history – the process by which the world manifests into existence is effected by the observer.....

YOU!

That being said, we need look no further for the center of the Universe than our own awareness.

You are creating this reality in the present moment. Many would say that each of us is co-creating this reality with a higher power. This is a sticky wicket! From one perspective, the point could be made that “All is One” therefore, how could there be a “higher” power?

Personally, I have an awareness that is exploring this creation. I am currently playing in this wonderland of words, so, obviously, one thing is experiencing another. As the author William Samuel has described it, I prefer to think of “God” as simple existence, the “Isness” which pervades all things (including you). It is the energetic flow of Being.

This leads me to a most powerful, and controversial, statement:

YOU ARE GOD!!!

Yes, this baby is God, Buddha is God, Jesus is God, etc....

Then, again, so is the chair, the houseplant and the dead fly on the windowsill. From this angle, God is not an old man with a long, white beard sitting on a cloud, holding a ruler, waiting to punish you for being a bad boy or girl. Let’s graduate from thousands of years of spiritual kindergarten, please!

God is the ray of consciousness emanating from your very being. This is your experience of God – AS God! The Isness , which is your being, perceives all that exists as itself. Yes, the words can get swirly and mystical, but to put it in simple terms – God is experiencing creation through your eyes!

When you judge this creation, you put filters in front of those eyes. This is the meaning of eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When you judge things (have knowledge of good and evil) it fruits into something that causes you to fall from your garden paradise (happiness).

Let it Bee

A bumblebee has what’s called a “compound eye” formed of a large number of individual hexagonal units. When all of these units are put together in the brain, the bumblebee sees one vision. In the same way, each of us is an eye of God. As “One”, our collective perspectives are the vision of God.

Isness + Isness = Life!

Sit in nature, or a quiet spot, clear the mind and you can feel this all-pervading Isness throughout your being.

Brainwash, Rinse and Repeat

Uh-oh!!!

Disclaimer: This piece describes the “average” American.

DO, OR DO NOT, TAKE IT PERSONALLY!

If you’re the average American, you were born into a hand-me-down world. Everything you were taught was regurgitated information – beliefs, ideas and expectations from the previous generation, who learned it from the previous generation, ad infinitum.......

For 13 years, the school system’s main objective was to turn you into a competitive, robotic monkey. Advertisers trained you to buy products. Religions, perverted by men, were crammed into your head. Systems of government and laws, which you never agreed to, were forced upon you. When it was time to leave school, you were pressured, out of guilt and fear, to go to college or join the work “force”.

Hey, that’s the way of the world,

no time to stop and think about it!

Unless, you’re one of those modern rebels, who stay at home smoking pot and playing video games all day (insert sarcasm) you’ve fallen into the routine of the good consumer.

Wake up,

clock in,

work,

clock out,

go home,

eat dinner,

watch TV,

go to sleep.

Only when you’ve fallen totally asleep,

do you have the American dream!

Your head has been programmed with a lifetime of bullshit!

Pick a side – democrat or republican. Now defend the puppet on the left, or the puppet on the right, like it’s your favorite football team. A great majority of the history you’ve been taught are flat out lies (The victors write the history books.) Unless, you’re out there exploring the four corners of the globe (an oxymoron) you don’t know what’s really going on outside your country’s borders, beyond what tightly controlled media outlets feed you. Although, I guess you’re up to snuff as to what happens when politicians close those big mahogany doors, right? If you’re not making a conscious effort, even your human relationships are patterns, based on stereotypes and past experiences.

All this, yet, you’ve formed opinions on everything – even on topics you know extremely little about! How can anyone truly claim to know anything with decades of white noise and static in the brain?

My point is, that unless you’ve taken steps to clear house, I mean really let go of the mental slavery you’ve been under, since birth, please don’t force your run-of-the-mill, regurgitated opinions on others. Why do you think “kill the zombies” movies have been so hot, recently? It’s a subconscious metaphor of the collective unconscious. Although, I could be wrong (I never went to college.)

Yeah, yeah.....I write a lot about how what one focuses attention upon becomes a greater force in personal reality. I guess I still have some residue that needs scraping from inside my skull.

This piece was inspired by my cousin.

If you think you’re enlightened,

go visit your family for the holidays.

My diet, long hair and attire don’t make me a hippie.

Dream Interpretation

Dream interpretation is a very open subject. People, places and things have different personal meanings to each of us. There are scores of books which will tell you that a dog symbolizes loyalty. But what about the dreamer who was bitten by a dog as a child and now has a great fear of them? To that person, a dog in a dream might represent the inability to trust one’s survival instincts. Therefore, my disclaimer to this piece is that the following dream definitions are reference points from my own personal discovery of the symbology inherent within the collective unconscious.

That being said, let’s dive, fly or float into the dream world!

Whenever one analyzes a dream, an extremely beneficial practice is to observe how one FEELS about the people, events, objects, etc. within it. Sliding down a hill, joyfully, can mean something totally different than doing it fearfully.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE FEELINGS!

Following is a very brief, general key of the map of symbols along the dream path.

People

Men: The conscious mind, what you’re aware of, thoughts, logic, attention, focus
Women: The subconscious mind, hidden forces, intuition, feelings, gut reactions
Children: Innocence, purity
Your children: That which you create in the world
Your parents: Where your identity comes from
Others: Analyze what that person represents to you. We’re all reflections of one another!

Places

Buildings: Various forms of your inner self
Your house: Your inner self
Backyard: The past
Front yard: The future
Windows: Your perspective
Doorways: A shift in perspective
Rooms: Inner focus (For example, the kitchen is where you gain energy, the bedroom is rest, sex, etc.)
School: Learning, social issues (Once again, it depends on the feeling!)
Work: How you support yourself
Church: Obviously, the spiritual quest
Environment (desert, forest, ocean, etc.): See “Earth, air water, fire” in the next section.

Objects

Earth: Grounding issues, connection to the physical
Air: The mind, thoughts, ideas, opinions, beliefs
Water: Emotions, feelings
Fire: Drives, ambitions, pursuits, goals, plans, motivation
Any of these elements in extreme manifestation represent an imbalance. For example, a tornado may symbolize thoughts being out of control.
Animals: Basic survival instincts, animal urges (This is more clearly defined by the type of animal in the dream. There is a great deal of literature on the subject.)
Vehicles: Your will, intent, behavior, “drive”

This is an incredibly short list of dream symbology. My intent is to spark interest in further study. Once again, these are my own findings. I encourage you to open your eyes to the patterns in your world.....and beyond.

Freedom from the Cage of Personal Perspective

Is this room empty, or is it just me?

You have a very unique rhythm. Nobody or nothing vibrates with the exact same frequency as you. Biochemically, you are a self-contained Universe. This very personal vibration renders you a magnet to the forces which create your life!

From the vantage point of individual perspective, we each live in an entirely different dimension of reality. If you really take the time to give this idea some serious contemplation, it is truly mind-boggling! Now, if we identify “who we are” with these single-pointed perspectives of reality, then we are utterly alone. Thus, the others around you live in self-contained points of perspective, and are alone, as well.

A paradox develops. If we are each alone in our own little worlds, then don’t we have that in common? This means that when it comes to being alone - you’re not alone! What about the way in which our Universes overlap? Are you playing a supporting role in the story of my life, or am I merely a prop on your theater stage?

Many spiritually-minded have deduced that the issue at hand is our incessant need to cling to our personal points of perspective, in such manic fashion, that a separate sense of self (ego) is inevitable. After all, we’ve spent a lifetime worshiping at the altar of our identities. We have a lot of stock invested in the company called “Me”.

Okay, let’s look at this from a different angle (perspective). Everyone has had empathetic moments – those experiences in which you’ve aligned your perspective with that of another. Perhaps, you’ve been at a concert and felt like it was you onstage letting the melodies overtake you. Maybe, a family member had been emotionally hurt to a degree that it felt like it was happening to you.

On the flip side, you’ve had times when you were so locked inside yourself that extremely intense events and experiences happened to others which didn’t affect you in the slightest. Ever watch the news?

This demonstrates that you’ve always had the powerful choice to step outside of your personal cage or remain “safe” within its protective walls. One must wonder that if the power exists to step outside your personal cage to any degree, than how far from that personal cage can one travel?

This piece is being written from a single perspective to illustrate the fluid nature of single perspectives. The totality of all that exists (God) is limitless beyond comprehension. This is not recognized when the door to the cage of perspective is closed. It is possible for one to spend a lifetime looking for the key, without lifting the head long enough to notice that the door is open.

The Stream of Life

This blog gets an "E" for effortless!

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. -Jesus

I can see why many cultures of old revered the Sun as their God. The plants of Earth reach for this solar being without any thought. With an effortless impetus, they grow in splendor. It is the same with us. Find that true desire, that blazing Sun in your personal sky, and grow toward it.

The way toward the Sun can grow cloudy. The rain may deluge your “plans” for 40 days and 40 nights. If your ark is strong, you will one day arrive in a new world. The rain is there to wet your passion, to feed all you’ve planted.

Go with the ever-flowing current of Life’s moving stream. Only when we hold on to the rocks or fight the “current” moment does the stream beat us up.

Yes, your parents, your teachers and your peers have taught you that fighting the stream is noble and will win you accolades. “How much stress can you handle?” Worry, fear, doubt, guilt and such are jagged rocks in the stream. Let go!

Everything you desire is downstream!

The lily does not struggle to be an oak tree, because other lilies said so. If it did, surely this struggle would deprive the lily of the energy it needs to blossom.

Spring is the season of new beginnings, and the rain surely comes. Summer is the season of growth, when the world reaches for the Sun. In autumn, the rewards are harvested. In winter, there is rest.

Spring is upon us. The rains of spring will surely feed the stream. Ride the current. When the water is calm, it will signal you to row. Rapids will ensue. Waterfalls will take you to new levels. The sights will amaze you! Eventually.....

The stream will lead you to the ocean!

Going green, seeing red!

For the past few years, there’s been a barrel full of hubbub about the irreversible damage humankind is doing to our fair sister – Earth. The old adage use to be that if you want to keep your friends, don’t talk religion or politics. I believe it’s safe to say that we can add “the environment” to that list! Well, take a deep breath of your air of choice, because in the words of Bob Marley:

Every little thing.....is gonna be alright.

In the late 90’s / early 2000’s, I was still in my idealistic twenties. My very close friend, and poet supreme, Bret Duncan and I would perform spoken word at coffee shops and events, throughout the Cincinnati area. I was full force, hell-bent on changing the world, one mind at a time.

Punk Skot

Torrents of cleverly crafted outrage would blast forth in sardonic measure, as I thumbed my nose at the bastard, offspring culture created by the establishment. I felt, or rather thought, I was educating the masses on the horrors of slave labor camps, the meat and dairy industry, and other such evils. My favorite sewage to sling involved pointing out that humans had become robotic, self-serving drones. My blood boiled at the blasé, nonchalant way in which those around me viewed the atrocities of the world. “As long as it’s not in my backyard!” seemed the prevailing mindset.

Then it happened. I was in the woods enjoying a Rainbow Gathering (a hippy happening). I was going off on some random corporation with environmental angst. A guy, not much older than myself, tried to make me see the redundancies of fighting “the wrongs of the world” with massive amounts of negative energy and focus. I was using my breath to blow out a huge fire. This was merely feeding the flames. I didn’t get it. I was convinced that if I enlightened enough people, we could all blow out the fire at once.

A decade later, I get it. Ironically, now that it’s in their own backyards, I see so many people with the intense opposition to the system that I wanted to see ten years ago. Bret and I can still have a good chuckle about this.

As I near the forty year-old marker, it’s not that I’ve settled down. It’s simply that I’ve turned off our cultural distractions long enough to give meditative contemplation to the forces that create personal reality. I’ve thus far surmised that the energy we put out, via our focus of attention, shapes our lives, even on a physical, global scale.

A child will tell you that what you feed grows bigger. Whatever it is that you want to grow bigger – feed that! Whatever your vision of paradise on Earth, start to acknowledge it in little pieces. Springtime is nearly upon us. Hear the birdsongs in the morning. Notice the variety of colored tulips.

This is not turning a blind eye toward the harsh realities of a bleak future. This is opening our eyes to the perfection of moments that lead, one after another, through the gates of infinity! If that sounds too mystical and flakey for you, how about:

Turn your attention toward solutions, not problems!

There, there, you’re safely back on Earth. Now, take a deep breath of crisp, clean, fresh air, because every little thing.....is gonna be alright!

The Secret 4 Realms of the Law of Attraction: The Mental Realm (Part 2)

I think, therefore, I am.....thinking.

Step #3:

Change the Blueprints. Go down the list and write an opposing viewpoint for every belief. For example, if you wrote: "I am overweight, because everyone in my family is overweight.", an opposing viewpoint would be: "My weight is my decision. I have the power to choose whether or not to be overweight." This exercise will reveal to you that you truly do have choices.

YOUR POWER IS IN YOUR ABILITY TO CHOOSE YOUR REACTIONS!

Someone recently asked me: "How can I believe that a thought vibration actually leaves my head, journeys into the Universe, and causes events to occur a certain way?"

Does it seem too...unrealistic?

Consider two people. The first person, Bob, believes that everyone in the city is mean-spirited, rude and obnoxious. As a consequence, he travels through the city with his antennae ready, waiting for others to behave this way. Soon enough, Bob encounters a disgruntled passerby and grumbles, "See, didn't I tell you people in the city are mean?!!!" Pleasant people are certainly there, but they escape his attention.

Bob does this to justify his thoughts. He is caught in a loop. Until Bob consciously realizes this,we call his thoughts "unconscious". He remains cloaked amidst a tailor-made, self-fulfilling prophecy. These thoughts affect his body posture, the words he uses, even his actions. Is it no wonder that later in the evening Bob finds himself in the middle of a fight?

We'll call the second person "Adam". Adam has always believed that people in the city are fun and exciting! Upon Adam's metropolitan journey he observes others behaving friendly, cheerful and inviting. He pays no heed to the unhappy or miserable. With these thoughts, Adam holds his body much differently than Bob. His words and actions are also more open, not as defensive. He even has a greater range of emotional possibilities. As a result, Adam finds himself invited to a party later that night. This is Adam's self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sure, these two examples are super-simplistic. That is the point - to make it clearly understood: Bob's thoughts attracted to him the experience of a fight. Adam's thoughts attracted to him the experience of a party.

A friend recently mentioned to me that he had taken up the guitar. With youthful wonder he recalled how he had just learned to strum an E chord. "There is so much you can do with just that one chord!" he declared. I made it clear to him that this type of thinking would yield a much different outcome than if he were to think, "Urrrrgh! All I know is this one stupid chord!" He understood that depending on his attitude, his basic approach to the guitar, there exists a choice between many types of guitarists which may emerge from within. "Yes!" I enthusiastically stated, "This is how it is for all of us, in every moment!" This is how thoughts attract experiences.

Our thoughts set off chain events. These are ripples extending into the vast sea of energy in which we are immersed. The movement of any fish sends underwater currents that change the structure of the entire ocean. The butterfly effect. If any of this seems too logical or obvious, than maybe we can allow the idea that, "Thoughts attract experiences." to become part of our collective awareness. Shall we place it in the file marked "Common Sense"?

The Secret 4 Realms of the Law of Attraction: The Mental Realm (Part 1)

Are these the blueprints I requested?

The mind is like a file cabinet.

INGOING: All information is labeled and stored away.

OUTGOING: As situations occur, we reach into this file cabinet to determine our reactions.

The ability of the mind is a gift. It is a survival mechanism. The mind identifies, "There is a hot stove." The file marked "stove" is instantly pulled out. Your brain warns you that if you touch the stove, it will burn you.

For ages the mind has been compared to a knife. It is a useful tool, but can cause harm if misused. When a person identifies "who they are" with their mind, it becomes baggage, issues, ego - whichever you prefer. It replaces all intuitive ways of approaching Life. One becomes a robot. People tend to perpetuate this way of being out of fear. Another term for this file cabinet is the "subconscious mind". The subconscious holds the blueprints for all that you experience. The mind retrieves these files for use.

When Cindy was a child an adult told her that money is bad. As with everything, she stored this thought in her subconscious. The adult repeated it again, and again, and again. In time, this information became a very thick file in her subconscious. Now she's an adult. When money situations occur, her conscious mind reaches into the files of her subconscious mind and responds with the belief that, "Money is bad." Cindy wonders why she remains broke.

This same pattern applies to EVERY aspect of Life! Basically, your subconscious is crammed with blueprints that may be serving you or going against your desires. The wonderful part is that in any moment we can rewrite our blueprints to reflect our desires!

Here's how:

(Even if you don't choose to follow these three steps, I encourage you to read them for some priceless wisdom.)

Step #1:

Identify the Blueprints. Okay, here comes the standard "write it down" exercise. It's a classic because of its effectiveness. Choose an area of your Life in which you would like to see your desires fulfilled. Money, relationships, health, career, self-image, you name it. Let's say you've been looking for Love in all the wrong places. Write down all of those limiting beliefs about Love, which you've been carrying around. "All the good men are taken." "Women only want you for your money." "Love doesn't come easily." "Who would want me? I'm too unattractive, old, boring...etc." After you have compiled your list, DO NOT reread it as a whole! Set it aside for step #2.

Step #2:

The Blueprints are not You! Any blueprints you have formed are a composite of a lifetime of incoming information from your family, friends, teachers, classmates, coworkers, the media, and other environmental influences. Your hard drive has been continually programmed from birth. The grand paradox is that these influences are merely reflections of you!.

Take your list from step #1 and turn it face down in front of you. DO NOT turn it over until you realize with your heart that THIS IS NOT YOUR BLUEPRINT! You do not have to claim this blueprint any longer! The list in front of you is a patchwork of what others in your Life have believed. Some would protest that it is in their "nature" to be a certain way. "Human nature" is only a thought, feeling or action that has been repeated so often that it has become "human habit". When you attain some level of peace that the thoughts on this list do not belong to you, it is then time to turn over the piece of paper. Allow a sense of detached freedom resulting from your new awareness.

Returning to the Void

There's no place like home!

Whether we call It “God, the Universe, a Higher Power, Jah, Ra, Allah, or Rama-lama-ding-dah”, a cosmic energy force brought you out of the void, and you may return at any time. For a relatively brief moment, you exist in this reality – a mere, flickering spark in relation to infinity! This cosmic energy force whips up stars out of dark space and un-ending galaxies of magnitudes incomprehensible.

Here you are, perceiving all of this wonder in the blink of an eternal eye, before returning to the void. Now, take a look at the objects in front of you. POOF! There they are, in their entire splendor. At one time, this blue ball we live upon was a confluence of chemical reactions floating through space, and now, VIOLA! There is a computer at your fingertips!

The point I wish to make is that this cosmic energy force at the center of existence, which has propelled everything into being, and which is a part of all that is, has also made you!

Seven questions:

What is your part in all of this?

Do you remember actually, physically, on purpose growing the brain inside your skull?

Do you remember forming the branches on the tree outside your window?

So.....which is inherently you, the brain or the tree?

Can you answer these questions before it all returns to the void, and NONE of it is you?

Hold on, if I return to the void and none of it is me, does that mean that right now, ALL of it is me?

Hmmm.....Hasn’t that concept been the basis of most spiritual precepts since the beginning of recorded history?

(Might be worth a thought or two.)

Disclaimer: Even the fact-finding quantum physicists inform us that it’s all relative based on the perception of the observer.

Is 2012 the End?

The end, my ass!

Hooooooweee!!! There's a mighty lotta talk about this subject! And it's still a couple of years away!

The general thought is that the Mayan prophecies predict the world will "come to an end" in December of 2012 (I've read everything from the 2nd to the 31st of December.) Those who fail to look no deeper into the matter, than from their entertainment center perches, have no idea what this event is truly about.

Would it surprise you to learn that a more accurate date is October 28, 2011, more than a year earlier than the 2012 date?

Were you aware that the Mayans were not measuring time as we know it, but were most interested in aligning states of consciousness with the creative flow of the Universe? Puts a different spin on what "the end" is about, doesn't it?

Did you know that each step on a Mayan pyramid represents an evolutionary shift of consciousness that has occurred, and will occur, on Earth? They placed The Big Bang happening in the same "time" frame that scientists now estimate it actually took place!

The Secret 4 Realms of the Law of Attraction: The Emotional Realm

You feel me?

Look out! You have all of these desires coming at you from the spiritual realm. Often, at lightening speeds! Life delivers thousands of choices at your feet, every day.

Which ones help you best fulfill your purpose?
Which ones keep you stuck in the same old patterns?
Which ones bring you the "good" things in Life?
Which ones bring you pain?
Which ones are ethically right or wrong?

My friend, you have been blessed with a wonderful tool.....

The Internal Guidance System!

Here's how it works. When the force of a desire moves into you, it causes an energy we call "emotion". This energy of emotion fills your body with sensations. The sensations are the meter you read to guide yourself along the path. Functioning from this inner awareness is our natural state of being. Only when the mind interferes and overrides this process, with its fearful judgments, is there any confusion. The mind is only there to translate.

Try this simple exercise, you can use in any moment:

Sit back, and think of something you want. Make it something you REALLY, REALLY want! Visualize yourself getting it.

Is there an expanding in your chest?
Do you feel that tingly wave in your body?
Does a joyful smile or nod appear?

Love, joy, passion, exhilaration, and gratitude are just some of the signals that this desire is worthy of your attention. Each individual has their own inner metal detector beeping when there is gold. It has been called "intuition" - that gut feeling. Theses signals may come to each of us in our own unique way, but the process is the same.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, when you consider a desire that goes against your true self, you start to get those not-so-good sensations.

Maybe your chest sinks.
Your body tightens.
Breathing becomes shallow.

Anger, fear, depression, worry and doubt are just a few examples of these negative signals.

Whatever your signals are, you can just FEEL when something isn't right. This is your internal guidance system using a little tool called "stress" to make you turn around and head in the other direction. This is our instinct.

Animals do not have the type of reasoning mind that humans possess. They are ruled by their internal guidance system. It is a tool that serves them very well, indeed. Although they may not express all the emotions our reasoning minds easily interpret, they feel a spectrum of emotion that relates to ours. This is our connection to them.

To put all of this very simply...How do you feel? Is there joy surrounding your desire? If so, move in THAT direction! If not, reevaluate the situation.

Rooty REALLY, REALLY wants to own a coin shop, but is worried about taking the risk. His internal guidance system is telling him not to move in that direction. This doesn't mean that his desire to own a coin shop is "bad". It means that this desire will not manifest, in a fulfilling way, with worry surrounding it. At this point, if he is paying attention, his primary desire would be to explore his fear of risk-taking. (Don't worry, Rooty gets his coin shop.)

Now you can see why it has been referred to as "the internal guidance system". Your E-motions are that beeping sound within. Allow your E-motions to guide you to your success. As it has been said by poets, prophets and Mamas...

FOLLOW YOUR HEART!

To summarize:

The force of desire enters you through the Spiritual Realm. Its energy is absorbed through the Emotional Realm. The byproduct is an E-motion. That energy is then filtered through the blueprint of the mind (Mental Realm). As energy attracts like energy, it is then manifested in the Physical Realm.

Follow the Fun!!!

...down the rabbit hole!

When it comes to passion, I’ve noticed that most people go to either one, of two, extremes. The first type feels overwhelmed with the choices of where to place their energies.

Should I go back to school?
Start a business?
Write a book?
Learn to cook?
All this, while I’m working my job and dealing with the kids?
Man, the dog just shit on the carpet!!!

We’ll call this the overactive type, for lack of a better description.

Then there is the type who is bored. This type doesn’t feel inspired. They, generally, settle into whatever personal distraction suits them. In America, this usually includes brightly colored images on a screen. We’ll call this the underactive type.

Often, these two types attract one another. Sound familiar?

Good news!

There is a middle ground.

A zero point.

Like all solutions, it involves being in the present moment.

Now, at some time, we set goals of what we expect from life.

Someday, I hope to be a (fill-in-the-blank).
I want to have a certain amount of money,
be famous, fall in love...and so on.

Then, when challenges naturally occur, as part of the growth process, we find it easier to self-sabotage, then to persevere.

The overactive type finds a million other things that need to be done. The underactive type figures, “Why even bother if it’s not going to work out, anyway?” What’s ironic is that for both types of people the remedy is exactly the same.

Follow the fun!

I’m not suggesting that you abandon all of those lofty, well-designed plans you’ve made. I mean, look how far they’ve gotten you (insert sarcasm)! What I am suggesting, is that you look around at what excites you in every moment.

Some of my favorite hikes in the woods were not the ones where I planned to be at a certain place at a certain time, and then rushed to get there. They were mellow journeys in which I felt inspired to follow a particular line of sycamore trees, or head toward a melodious sparrow’s call in the distance. Follow the fun in every moment, and, one day, you will pause to witness a dazzling mosaic of experience surrounding you!

This approach works for the overactive type who lets go of the mile-long checklist in order to follow the fun, one project at a time. Carrying in the groceries can lead to inspirational realizations, when one is not busy going over the next 15 tasks on the list.

For the underactive type, following the fun means consciously finding new joy in even the smallest activities. This can lead to the door of inspiration opening further and further!

From an overactive viewpoint, I’ve taken great inspiration in the story of Leonardo da Vinci. I’ve heard it stated that everyone surrounding this fascinating artist warned him that he was scattering his energies in too many fields, and that he should focus his attention on a single pursuit.

Da Vinci would study drawing for awhile, then suddenly shift gears and dabble in chemistry. Just as abruptly, he would jump into biology, mechanics, painting or algebra.

He was following his fun!

Over a lifetime, this continued. As time unfolded, he began combining the skills he learned from these various fields. As a result, Leonardo da Vinci left the world with phenomenal marvels of genius!

So, I say to you, follow your fun in every moment. Eventually, you will detach from your rigid expectations of the outcome. This will happen because you’re too busy following your fun to worry where it leads. Once you’re excited about every step upon the path, the thorn bushes will part before you, and the way will be made clear.

What an easy way to reach the castle!

The Tao is the Way

Yes Way, Jose!

What in the HELL is the “Tao”?
How do you say THAT?
It’s Chinese?
Is that some kinda Kung-Fu?
Too weird.
I don’t get it!

Well, let’s simplify. I believe many westerners are obviously unfamiliar with the Tao (pronounced “Dow”) due to language and cultural barriers. Yet, I guarantee that if the Chinese had ice cream, and we did not, it wouldn’t be long before most in America knew what it tasted like and how to pronounce it.

“Well, that ain’t the same! I don’t have to sit and THINK about ice cream. I can taste it, enjoy it and let the pleasure fill my innards!” Actually, it is pretty much the same with the Tao.

That’s the entire point!

The Tao, translated into English, means “The Way”. Jesus said, “I am the Way.” It’s the same Way. The Way simply means the flow of life, the God-essence not only within all things, vibrating from the core, but the energy traveling through all things, giving it life.

No beginner’s lesson on the Tao is complete without mentioning the bible of Taoism. It is the “Tao Te Ching” (Dow Day Ching) by Lao Tsu (Lah-oh Soo). First of all, this book is relatively short, or might I say concise. The translation I own is 86 pages. I love that! This brevity allows one to contemplate the impact each line delivers. Secondly, it is written in a poetic fashion.

The metaphor of water is attributed to the Tao. The Tao Te Ching, literally translated as “Book of the Way”, illustrates the way in which the Tao, as water, seeks to fill all voids (nature abhors a vacuum.) It is supple and yielding, yet, can be most powerful and destructive.

This book speaks much of balance, illustrated as the familiar concept of yin-yang. You know, the black and white teardrop image we’ve turned into stickers that kids can buy out of bubble gum machines. After all, life is a delicate dance of opposites all around us, causing the force of friction that animates our very being.

Whoa, dichotomy!

Finally, what I most love about the Tao, is that those who enjoy its beauty and wisdom have not made a god out of it. The Tao is the way of God, but it is also God! The Tao is inside each of us, and it is us! It is all one force – energy. This spiritual expression comes closer to the proven laws of physics than any I’ve encountered, and the Tao Te Ching was written in the 6th century BC!

I implore you to listen to the stream. Breathe. Feel the pulsating rhythm of the Being within you and flowing through you. Experience the balance and centeredness that result. Keep breathing. Keep flowing. Be the stream!

Gently release the idea of who you think you need to be. When you let yourself go, you will return to who you are – the Way, the Tao.

The Marriage of Creation and Evolution: How it All Began

The following is an attempt to briefly explain my own radical theory on the beginnings of humankind. Please note that this is one of any number of theories that a wandering mind may stumble upon, while trekking upon the wide-open, candyland trail of Truth. As Buddhists and hillbillies say, “It’s all relative.” I have kept myself open to all possible outlets of this relative Truth, whether it be a culture, an experience, a religious movement, a personal experience, etc. By doing so, I have been able to assemble conclusions that go beyond what society self-servingly spoon feeds the masses, to a sense of personal spiritual awareness. And yet, I still don’t know shit! HAHAHEEHAEHHEAEHAHEHEH!!!!! (Lunatic laugh).

To begin with, a definition of “God” is in order. As far as I’ve concluded, God is the ineffable awareness present within the matrix of energy which encompasses All. Fair enough.

In the beginning there was void. God breathed. This represents the Big Bang. Then came the creation period of the Bible. This describes the forming of the Earth over a length of time. “Seven days of creation” simply represents a number of Earth transformations that enabled life to flourish – the waters, the firmament (sky), and so on. The Bible be representin’!

During this drawn out span of time, evolution occurred. If man evolved from an animal, be it fish, bird, or ape, eventually he began to stand more and more erect. There came a time when the spine vertically aligned, bridging Heaven and Earth. The energy centers of the body, the chakras, kick in. The meridians and central nervous system operate at full capacity.

The first ones to experience this event are identified as primordial man and woman, also known as Adam and Eve. No longer were they conscious beings ruled by instinct. They were now conscious of consciousness, aware of their awareness. Hey, we’re naked!!! This is what truly distinguishes man from beast.

As far as the Big Bang theory is concerned, scientists inform us that the Universe is currently in a constant state of expansion. It is postulated that one day we will reach critical mass, and the Universe will begin contracting. Eventually, everything will return to an infinite point – the void. This, my friends, is the Universe exhaling and inhaling. The breath of God! It boggles the mind to wonder how many Universal breaths have come and gone before us, throughout infinity.

I’ve arrived at my own, and heard, many other fascinating theories on primordial man. I decided to throw out the heaviest first. Many Muslims believe that the apple with which Eve tempted Adam was oral sex. Another very appealing idea is that the Earth was seeded with humans from an extraterrestrial source. This would render us a cosmic ant farm, with God (or Gods) being project manager. It would be a more befitting definition of “Intelligent Design”.

One day, I shall expound on my personal favorite, which identifies the forbidden fruit as the amanita muscaria – a magic mushroom.

Modern Mystics and the Power of Intent

.....AND I MEAN IT!!!

Being assistant coordinator of psychic festivals, and an avid “new-age hippy” for 20+ years, I’ve heard a lifetime’s worth of claims that certain object have magical powers. This stone will protect you from evil forces. The sound of this bell will align you to your soulmate, etc., etc. I’ve also witnessed many a searcher grasping for a totem, a potion, or the right book that will erase all of life’s challenges. Of course, supply and demand enter the picture from all angles, whether it’s the snake oil salesman duping the blind man, or the truly compassionate tarot card reader guiding one toward bliss.

The one aspect of the metaphysical field I would like to touch upon is the power of intent. To proceed with this discussion, I implore the reader to understand the concept that “all is energy”. Every physical object is merely a concentrated field of vibration. Modern physics has stated that no object takes any particular form in our world until our mind (also vibrations) perceives the object. Very heavy stuff!

Now, if physics concludes that the chair you’re sitting in is only real, because you expect it to be real, can you see how the properties of a gemstone will only affect you to the degree you expect? Even in the Bible, Jesus stated that he has no power to heal without the person’s belief in him - their expectation.

Admittedly, I’ve experienced much positive intent on the part of modern mystics. Most I’ve encountered are aware, or becoming aware, of this concept. A handful are blissfully ignorant of the principles and dynamics of intent, yet achieve results. I guess one doesn’t need a degree in electrical engineering to flip a light switch. Perhaps, I’m digging too deeply into defining this force.

I feel that I’m directing this piece more toward the beginner on the scene. Simply note that the tarot card reader is merely interfacing with you at a particular time and space. The seemingly random cards are placed before you. Your intent has attracted these waves of vibration to culminate in pictures and images on a card that you are using another human being to interpret.

If it seems bizarre and confusing – it is!

We shall examine each of these 4 Realms a little more closely. We will begin in the clouds and work our way down to Earth.

THE SPIRITUAL REALM - Desire is the Compass!

Somewhere, out there, awaits another bliss for you! To arrive at this bliss, doesn't it make sense to follow a trail of bliss? To find a pot of gold which would you follow; a trail of gold, or a trail of raisins?

YOUR DESIRE IS YOUR INTERNAL COMPASS, LEADING YOU IN THE DIRECTION OF YOUR SUCCESS!

As in nature, Life wants you to fulfill your desires for the benefit of All. The acorn is given a natural impetus to become an oak tree. It does so effortlessly. What if it were possible for an acorn to choose what it wanted to be? What if that tiny acorn fought to at least become a blade of grass, never realizing the awesome potential within it's very being? What if this little nut used all it's energy to struggle against Mama Nature? Would it not whither?

The Universe provides EVERYTHING plants need. Water, sun and soil are bestowed in nearly overwhelming abundance. Nature's only desire for the algae, dandelion or star fruit tree is that they simply exist. The expression of that plant's very being allows it to give back to Nature in the continuous cycle of sustaining Life.

The purpose of vegetation is clear. It does not till or toil with struggle or strife. Fearing "shoulds" and "should nots" is not the lot of a Forget-me-not! Some would argue that a plant has no choice, but we humans do. Might I say that when you begin to realize your purpose, you may feel that you have no choice, either. If any one of us would merely shift our perception and wake up to this very moment, the world before us would part it's thorny bushes and the kingdom would be revealed! The imaginary fog would lift. The true essence of being would uncover that which has always been there - an avalanche of profound prosperity beyond your wildest dreams!

Someone might say, "Well, I hate my job! What if my happiness is staying at home eating ice cream every day?" My answer is that eventually this form of happiness may shift. Perhaps you would begin to feel lazy, unhealthy or even bored. When these unpleasant feelings arise, a new joy may seem more attractive. Taking a walk, learning to play piano or visiting an old friend may come to mind. People tend to seek pleasure and avoid pain. When one choice appears to offer a greater reward, that path is chosen. After eating your eleventh gallon of double-chocolate-brownie ice cream in three weeks, riding a bike in the fresh air may seem more appealing.

I've heard Buddhists comment that you can only be sure of two things in life:

1. Change is constant.

2. Life is relative based on your perception of it.

Now, if we apply these two basic principles to your desires, we arrive at the following Truth:

LIFE IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING, RELATIVE TO THE PERCEPTION OF YOUR DESIRES.

This means that Life is always forming itself around the judgments you have about your desires. "Do I deserve this or not?" Whether you want something or don't want something, Life forms itself to match your perception. Quite simply, if you feel that you deserve something, it is possible for you to have it. As long as you feel UNDESERVING, it will not be yours.

Desire is the compass! It is eternally linked to your success and leads the way. Each desire carries within itself the seed for its own fulfillment, just as the acorn carries within itself the fulfillment of an oak tree.

Desires, drive, ambition, wants, needs, goals, dreams, wishes, hope, whatever you wanna call them, these pulls are different shades and varieties of one specific force.

Two Sides of a Golden Coin!

Are you "poor"?

How easy would it be for you to become poor? How much effort would go into emptying your wallet and bank account into the pockets of strangers, and placing your valuables on the curb? Presto, you're poor, right? Seems pretty easy to be poor!

Are you "rich"?

How easy would it be for you to become rich? How much effort would go into filling your wallet and bank account from the pockets of strangers, and placing valuables all around you? Presto, you're rich, right? Seems pretty easy to be rich!

What's that you say?

To be poor, you just....DO NOTHING, and misery will magically happen?

To be rich, you just.....work long hours of your precious time, often doing things you dislike, sacrifice, struggle and save in the hopes of attaing wealth you have no time to enjoy?

The facts:

There are people who work their asses off to be poor.

There are people who (literally) sit back, and let poor happen.

There are people who work their asses off to be rich.

There are people who (literally) sit back, and let rich happen.

Purple and yellow are opposites in the color spectrum.
Which one is more difficult?

Turning your head to the left is no more difficult than turning your head to the right.

Where is your head?

Solution:

If the river gave water, but felt unworthy to receive,
it would dry up.

If the river received water, but refused to give,
it would destroy all that surrounds it.

As soon as giving and receiving cease to be opposites,
so will rich and poor!!!

The Raven Family Sweat Lodge

Caw-Cawesome!!!

Last month, we put up a sweat lodge. During another blog, I will explain what they're about. I encourage you to do a little research, and experience one for yourself! For now, check out our "spirit sauna".

The frame of bent cane. The pit in the middle is where the lava rocks go, after they've been heated all day in the firepit, outside the sweat lodge. Water is poured on the rocks, and the steam fills the lodge!

I make it a point to look insane in most of my photographs, for the benefit of my bewildered descendants. If you're going to be anything.....make it interesting!!!

Since this photo, I've made the firepit much larger and added a tarp to the sweat lodge. Notice the solar shower in the background.

On the night Tonyana and I christened this sweat lodge, it hadn't rained in weeks and weeks. It rained the very next day (which was about a month ago) and has rained so much, the ground hasn't been dry enough to do another one, since. Huh.....magic!

Osho: Dynamic Meditation, Tarot and Freedom

Oh, sho me!

The first time I heard of him was in 1996, while I was living in a community house in Venice Beach, California. It was called "The YESSS Center". This multi-cultured, symphony of chaos was orchestrated by a six-foot something, wild-haired, Osho prodigy named "Arhata". Forty to sixty of us, from all walks of life, were nestled into two skinny houses, a couple doors down from Dennis Hopper.

Every Thursday, we had what was referred to as a "Let Go!" What I recall best about those sessions, besides the exotic fruit platters or guacamole dips afterward, were the dynamic meditations. Arhata was a big fan of Osho. Osho had taught that the most effective way he had found to enter deep meditation was to push physical activity to the limit. Therefore, at each of these sessions we would jump, dance and convulse with complete abandonment and freedom. This became a sacred, open space, where any pent up energies and psychological residue gathered throughout the week could be released. Finally, when you found yourself at the brink of ecstatic exhaustion, you would make your way to the floor and relax totally, as if in a very conscious, deep sleep. It is likened to relieving oneself after holding it in for quite a long time.

My next encounter with Osho was a few years later. In 1999, I was attending quite a few Rainbow Gatherings. These are hippie happenings in the forest. For weeks on end, mini-communities are set up with sterile kitchens, a daycare, trading circles, entertainment and much more. Everyone eats together, as family, when sunset arrives. All natural, of course. I had been into the tarot for a few years, and had made a new friend, Adrienne, at one of these gatherings. She was a thin, black woman in her late-thirties with an open mind. When I first took a look at her Osho deck of cards, I fell in love with them, immediately! Each card cut to the very center of whatever archetype it represents. I highly suggest these cards to anyone, from beginner to expert. Those, and the Universal-Waite deck, are my favorites.

After discovering these cards, I began to read Osho with a passion. His writings contained a penetrating wisdom that left me swimming in epiphanies, time after time. Osho refused to mince words. He casually laughed in the face of all forms of structure applied toward the art of awakening to the fact that one is already awakened. He touched many hot buttons. Sex is holy, and meant to be enjoyed to its fullest height of pleasure and bliss. Abundance is your birthright! These two truths became his downfall.

During his last years, he became known for his extravagant indulgence and rumors of exploitation. Many people, mostly the Christian right, joined in efforts to discredit him. He was gaining in popularity, and they were afraid he would infiltrate Western culture with his message of freedom.

I cannot attest to whether Osho was living an extremely lavish lifestyle as a way to teach that it’s okay to enjoy the abundance life has to offer, or if he had become another pious victim of the self-destructive, “spiritual ego syndrome”. Maybe, both. What I do know, is that his meditative practices, the tarot deck based upon his teachings, and his teachings themselves, are without a doubt, some of the greatest works on freedom I have ever read.

Toltec Wisdom: Reality is the Light in Your Eye

Eye candy, everywhere!

The "reality" you see in front of you is like a large screen at the front of the movie theater. Your mind is the projector at the back of the theater. YOU are the star of your own movie!

Lights! Camera! ACTION!!!

Did someone say "lights"? Light, my friend, bounces off everything you see. If you've been blessed with the gift of sight, this reflected light then enters your beautiful eyes.

Remember, in school, when the science teacher showed you the illustration of the eyeball and taught that any image you see is actually upside-down at the back of your eye? Well, your brain translates it into a "real" object, although it is nothing more than light bouncing off an energy field with centers of vibration spinning so fast that they give the illusion of appearing solid. Heavy, man!

After reading this piece to Tonyana, she asked, "Then how come I can FEEL things?" Yes, that does make things seem pretty real, so let me explain. We know that light bounces off an object and enters the brain through the eyes. Well, each of your five senses has a pathway to enter the brain. It's the same process, just a different way to reach your brain. The sense of touch uses the central nervous system. Remember again, in school, that illustration of the skeleton with all that veiny-looking stuff that grossed you out with the exposed brain and no genitals.......

Anyway, light bounces off an object, and your brain translates this bouncing light into an image. The real kicker, is that your mind has formed ideas about the image which distort the reality of what is being perceived. The label you attach to the image you perceive actually changes the image being seen. So, when you see a tree, are you really seeing it, or do you see the label "oak tree" that you've used over and over to put that image of light into it's proper category? Very useful skill for survival, but what if we want to evolve past surviving to thriving?

This labeling process applies to the people around you, as well as the wo/man in the mirror. This concept opens up a whole new 50-gallon drum of worms! Essentially, our programming from outside influences (parents, teachers, peers, TV, government, society, etc.) has occurred since birth, and has clouded your lens of perception. For some of you, the light bouncing off the energy field may not be the romantic comedy you envisioned.

Just look at religion. How many of your concepts of God are related to outside influences? How many people do you know who have been able to shake off everything they were taught about "God" and find out the true meaning of this ineffable force?

Free your mind, and the rest will follow! You can practice on that "oak tree".

Skottie Synchronicity - 1

Whoa!!!

What's my favorite city? Synchroni City. It's my hometown. One day I will write a piece about it. For now, whenever a particularly inspiring synchronicity occurs, I will blog about it.

Blog on.......

Tonyana and I were out and about last week, when we passed The Cheesecake Factory. The Godiva chocolate cheesecake can only be described as an exotic drug of deep, sensual decadence! By the way, that is not a commercial, just a suggestion.

I only had $10 in my wallet at the moment, and as we headed to Taco Bell, I blurted out, "Hey, if I find a $100 bill on the ground, we're eating at The Cheesecake Factory!"

So, we pulled into Taco Bell to discover that they didn't open for another 45 minutes. We decided to wait it out. I had to lay a soft, brown egg, so I walked to the gas station a block away. When finished, I left the scene of the crime, and as I walked through the gas station parking lot, I noticed a bill on the ground, about 20 feet in front of me. I rushed to it, like it was chocolate cheesecake.

It turned out to be a $5 bill. I immediately tore it to shreds and, in a fit of rage, karate punched several marigold plants. Just kidding, I was extremely grateful, and jogged back to tell Tonyana.

The story doesn't end there!

Several minutes ago, I was reading a book about blogging. The subject turned to podcasting, and I wondered what I would podcast about. Then I realized that I would love to tell my $100 bill story as a podcast.

After thinking that thought, a page and a half later in the book, the author was interviewing a famous podcaster. She asked, "What helps keep you inspired to come up with new content everyday?" The podcaster answered, "I found a $100 bill on the street last year...." and goes on to discuss podcasting about the experience.

I LOVE when synchronicities double-up on themselves!!!

But, the story doesn't end there!
