Did Xiaxue Indirectly Cause George Yeo to lose election?

Congrats to the Worker's Party for their good results at the Singapore General Election 2011. To be objective, there were losses and gains on both sides this time round.

Too bad I cant have a say this time because I am under Tanjong Pagar GRC...

Singapore's famous blogger Xiaxue has been very vocal about her support for George Yeo, part of the People's Action Party(PAP).

On the contrary, we have seen a rise in pro-opposition voters in this election, especially among the internet savvy young voters. I have seen internet forum posters(EDMW) switching sides to support blogging rival Dawn Yang just because Xiaxue was pro-PAP and Dawn Yang was more pro-opposition.

You see, politics are a touchy subject. It has the power to make people either really go against you or support you.

Xiaxue's support for George Yeo and the PAP party has no doubt increased the amount of people that don't agree with her.

I applaud Xiaxue for being brave enough to pledge her loyalty to PAP despite the increasing pressure not to, due to certain shortcomings of the PAP government.

But she is a blogger that depends on an internet audience. And as you know, most of the internet is pro- opposition. Should Xiaxue risk losing online audience due to differing political views? Did her vocal support for George Yeo work against George Yeo?

While most products that Xiaxue endorses do well, we can't assure that the political parties Xiaxue endorses will follow suit. Political parties are slightly different from consumer products and needs a different way of convincing people without pissing them off.

Unless Xiaxue's influence level is on the level of Oprah Winfrey's amongst young people. Oprah's audience are okay with her taking sides on political issues. But will Xiaxue's audience feel the same? Do they look upon her as a role model or just a celebrity. That I don't know.

Don't worry. Xiaxue will always have her online traffic. She has been branching out into youtube as well, and that will push her into the worldwide internet scene. She is a successful brand in new media> But if I were in her shoes, I would take the path of politics more carefully.

Was on twitter after the Singapore Idol results show came out. Sezairi was twitter's trending topic!

Like many, I was rooting for Sylvia to win.

But we gotta respect our voters decision ...

I prefer Sylvia because Hady and Taufik already possess the same musical style as Sezairi.

Looking back, Taufik deserved his crown. Let's face it, Sylvester Sim wasn't really that great. Remember that weird spastic twitching, winking and pointing? Olinda was a good singer but she doesnt have the image of the star. Taufik was one of the best we got during Season 1.

Jonathan Leong and Hady were both good singers. But Hady just has a little bit more charisma. Jonathan has the 'cool' thing going on, but I guess Hady's affable image appeals more to the masses.

But this season, we got boy-next-door Sezairi against cutie Sylvia Ratonel. Sezairi is a competent singer but whatever he can do, Hady and Taufik can or are already doing it. There is nothing new musically aout Sezairi.

But I heard Sezairi is a musician and write his own songs. Well, maybe my perception of him will change once he releases a few awesome original compositions into the airwaves.

Sylvia on the other hand, can give Singapore what we lack, a versatile female singer who happens to be sweet looking as well.

Alas, who won singapore idol isn't important. What's important is the future careers of both of them.

I see Sezairi following the footsteps of Hady and Taufik, performing regionally in Malaysia and Indonesia. Sylvia will have a market there too since she can sing in Malay.

Phillipines is also a good place for Sylvia to expand into.

I don't see any of the two finalists going International, unless Sylvia can get as lucky as Charice.

The Singapore Idols came to my school for promo last Monday.

Tabitha Nauser, Faizal Isa, Sylvia Ratonel, Sezairi Sezali were all on stage. Then I spotted a really short human being I couldn't really recognise standing amongst the four idols.

It took me a while before I realised "Ohhh! That short guy is Charles? Haha! Gawd."

Din include a picture but Charles "Stitch" Wong is actually really short! I'm guessing 165 or something. Hmmm...quite surprising cos he doesn't look all that short on TV.

But he's a pretty good looker though. *Jealous*

MJ has since dropped out of Singapore Idol due to 'personal reasons'. Such as being too rich and powerful so it isn't fair anymore since he can easily buy over Ken Lim's shitty Hype Records. I said shitty because there's rarely any artiste from Hype Record who's ever made it big.

If I were MJ, I would buy over Hype Records and make Ken Lim clean my shoe. I would also buy over Singapore Idol. Then, I would order everyone on set to jump around, act like monkeys, and take turns to slap Gurmit Singh's face . My bathtub will be filled with $50notes, and I would be sipping Starbucks and eating carvia while I watch all of this in my bathroom which has a theatre screen in it

I personally think MJ could have just flung a pile of $50 notes onto the face of (insert whore contestant's name), and she would gladly suck him off.

Ryan Lee would have done so too. And maybe so would Dick.
