Happy Australia Day to AUSTRALIA! I was sworn in as an Australian citizen on this day in 2001, 11 years ago! We were New Zealand citizens when we immigrated to this great country in 1998.

Life had been like a Waltzing Matilda and a Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport, ups and downs, shaking it sideways left and right, but thank you for the Fresh Air, beautiful beaches, great fresh food and all the opportunities you don't normally reveal but challenged me to seek for it. From a proud Pinay and now a proud Australian! Thank you Australia, and Happy Birthday! By the way an Australian passport is welcomed without so much visa hassles when travelling as a tourist in most if not all countries of the world. But please, do come here legally as I did, less hassle, stress and freedom!

Friday the 13th (13 Jan 2012)

For those who are superstitious where I sometimes am, I take special care and mindfulness when it's Friday, the 13th. I am not sure why some people consider that 13 is an unlucky number. Even in the cruise ship on a cruise, there is no level 13 and some tall buildings do not feature the no 13 on their floors. I am not sure what it is but I just observed that people always state, 'it's Friday the a13th! bad luck..." will take extraordinary care as it is Friday, the 13th, etc. For this day though, I had some glitches however I'd say that the day went well after lunch, after having some little hiccups in the morning. Now I can rest my case and wait for the result. I am expecting 2 positive results then I will have the dilemma to choose which one. The basis of my decision is the one that will cost less in the long run. But if I don't have a choice, I will just be happy with the outcome. Someone out there knows best and I will have faith and follow of His wishes. Confused? Well, I don't blame you as I got so confused myself.

2011 was an eventful year and the highligh was cruising the eastern side of new zealand on remembrance day, my birthday 11/11/2011. really enjoyed the cruise and this is now my preferred method of sightseeing.

it's 2012! this year is full of hope -intentions- changes. will keep us posted.

Somehow I felt like I abandoned this blog.
Somehow today I found the time to recover my password.
For awhile there I forgot what email addr i used
Then...suddenly it came to me!
It's been more than a year now since the last blog
I tried an email...it worked
I tried the PW ...it did not work
I reset it.....several attempts to retrieve it later, then one worked!
It takes only one password....to make it work!

Now- on with the show...and I hope it will be a regular show.

My situation...still the same, more years in advance, still the same job the same hubby.

Several aunties and uncles died. My mom is the last among her siblings, not counting uncle ric and auntie annie.

Reunited with my godson Nel who is all grown up now and his young family Abby and Nixie

Reconnected with some elementary, high school, and college friends and met some new ones in social networks - mainly Facebook. I met some (EB) in person already and with some I follow them sometimes in Twitter, too.

Several tsunami, floods, earthquakes and bush fires later..

Yes indeed..even if this blog went on a standstill my life went on being lived and still here and kicking every obstacles and savouring every accomplishments...life is GOOD!

they became best of friends
they went their separate ways in high school but still communicated
vivi left new zealand to immigrate with her family in qld australia
bec stayed with her family in hawkes bay nz
they finished high school
she studied nursing and she also did
she became a dancing nurse
she became a rowing nurse
they both went on with life becoming achievers in their chosen fields in their own separate countries.
thanks to myspace, blogs, facebook, they continued communication in all media possible.

Now they are brought together in Bec's Wedding...moving on to a more serious business in life. Today is the big day to be with their family and old and new friends. Have a great one both of you and have a lot of fun. Love you lots!

However, it wasn't the noodles that caused nightmares but

DEHYDRATION. Imbibing even with a few drinks of alcohol or just eating noodles immediately before bedtime compound this on an empty stomach will trigger an electrolyte imbalance and other factors that causes a person to dehydrate or lose water.

It is therefore advisable for a person to take several glasses of water before bedtime if he had a few or several alcoholic drinks.

Avoid eating noodles before bedtime, but if you can not avoid it, allow at least two hours for the body to digest the noodles before hitting the sack and drink plenty of water.

The most important thing is, never go thirsty when going to bed and be sure you have plenty of water during your 8-hour rest.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.

I hardly use my mobile but I got one as a gift from Vivs..so she can track me down when we are out shopping LOL..I can't even memorise my mob no. but I have it on the 'contact list' as MUM..I don't answer it either as I don't know what button to push. I have a voicemail but I don't know how to access it. Ray gets annoyed sometimes when I don't pick up. They are thinking of giving me a walkie talkie...whatever..children rulz??? don't think so..am not just a big fan of this cellphone.

Upps the furniture people are here now to deliver the kitchen appliances..etc..i took this day off. It's 9:30 am yuhoo. that means that I can go to the movies after all is sorted out..I can also have lunch in my favourite chinese fastfood...this is great life i tell ya! so....

Gee I have to apologise to them for all the mess! Our house is a bomb site due to renovation work upstairs so the garage is full of stuff. I haven't baked a cake since November 08 as my oven was dismantled..Nevermind I always daydream of the beautiful outcome later on...David....hurry up LOL..We both work full time that's why it's soooooooslow and we just resume reno work on the weekends...but hey we are busy, very very very busy!

Another natural disaster or they say that it's an arson attack that devastated the state of Victoria in Australia. I live in in the state of Queensland and we maybe thousands of kilometres away but we share the tragedy and loss of the victims.

This is when we realise that material things can be lost instantly and we are left with the basic life and the blessing to be alive.

We pray for the victims and may those who perished rest in peace..God Bless Victoria.

On 3 occasions we witnessed Chinese New Year celebrations in Hongkong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It's very colourful, noisy, crowded and joyous in Chinatown. Food of unimaginable kinds abound the streets. Reds and Golds dominate the colours and the golds specially are shimmering. Firecrackers are exploded, usually after a chinese parade of dancing dragons in colourful trimmings. Chinese girls dancing and a show of martial arts exhibition are also featured in various locations. It's their answer to our Christmas and New Year.

It's the year of the Ox...so happy chinese new year!

I was late to work today because I got stuck watching the highlights of the inauguration of newly elected president of the USA, Barack Obama on TV. Apparently there were about 2 million people who attended the event. The National Mall was full and DC was just overflowing with people. Must have been the most attended inauguration ever.

I was inspired by his speech as it holds a lot of promise not only for Americans but for most people of the world presently feeling the crunch of the financial crisit.,

At the end of his speech he said, God Bless YOU and God Bless America. Very simple but with so much impact.

I did not pay much attention to the US presidency and all the blah blah that goes with it but somehow this one kept me watching and quietly rooting for Obama..

Now that all is done and dusted, we shouldn't all sit back but be inspired and learn from his monumental inaugural speech and I think that we will all go through this nasty financial crisis if we do most of the things he said.

Just my political thoughts...what's yours?

The vacation is over and so is the festive season so...it's back to normal..which is work tomorrow.

It was a nice restive christmas, we stayed home for a change as we've been travelling a bit during christmas time since

Dec 2001 to the USA/Japan (took advantage of the cheap fare after 9/11)

Dec 2002 back to the USA/Korea as a gift for Ray who was the DUX in his primary school graduation.

Dec 2003 to Sydney and Canberra Australia

Dec 2004 to the Philipines/Hongkong

Dec 2005 to the Philippines/Kuala Lumpur

Dec 2006 to Melbourne Australia

Dec 2007 to the Philippines/Singapore

Dec 2008 just at home and around Brisbane

One of the reasons why we can't go anywhere aside from our renovation project is Milo-the cat. We love her so dearly that we can't let her stay in the cat hotel yet as we want her to be more matured.

Will go to sleep now as I will be waking up early tomorrow for work.

At long last, Christmas had passed and it's now 1st of January 2009, another year over, and a new one has begun (John Lennon).
It's 6 AM and next to New Zealand, Australia welcomes the New Year while some of you out there will soon be having your turns. I've slept after 12 midnite when housemates were busy watching TV. Now they are all asleep so I could blog in peace.

After all the parties before Xmas, we had a very restive relaxing lunch and dinner at home, each of us pitched in either in the food, gifts, cleaning, washing up, baby sitting the cat or just being there as a family. We decided to have it just for the family instead of attending some Filipino reunions, for a change.

It's chaotic inside the house as we are doing major renovation work to our old house so we opted to have dinner at the verandah that David built. It was our first time to do this and guess what? we loved it and we've been having our meals there since. It's cooler outside the house than inside especially during these summer days.

On boxing day (26/12) we had dinner with Armi's family. We are friends for 20 years now and they also immigrated to Australia about the same time as we did. They live more than an hours drive from our home and we met them for supper in a Thai Resto to enjoy food that someone had cooked for us. We have to pay..of course Our children had grown together and they are 'family' to us here.

Then...it was time for New Year Shopping. We have worked out that the bargains begin after Christmas so we saved a lot of our shopping then. Vivis, Ray and I headed to the DFO outlet near the Airport, leaving David in peace to continue his renovation work as he is not fond of shopping. Ray came along to help carry the shopping bags (bless him)

New Year is now here and will soon organise lunch again. They are all asleep so I might have a nap after greeting you all a Wonderful New Year...How did your holidays go?

we've been having crazy storms

but the christmas shopping continues.. the prime minister gave us $1000 because we've been good. thanks to all who voted for him. he advised us to 'go spend it!'..i don't know what to buy yet as i am sufficed with material things. i went to transfer it to my mortgage...online...that's why I am here.

The Christmas Rush is here!

It's been a busy week my friends- work parties, christmas chores, cooking, wishes to friends and family, gawking at christmas trimmings inside and outside buildings, truly, christmas is just around the corner and 2009 is unstoppable.

But...despite renovation work at home, we are coping happily.

2 films that i would recommend

AUSTRALIA - the film makes me feel proud to be an Australian. It's Australia's answer to Gone With the Wind (I haven't seen this movie yet but someone said it), Out of Africa, Pearl Harbour, The Good, the Bad and the...rolled into one. Nicole Kidman is one of my favourite actresses and I follow her movies and Hugh Jackman is now one of my favourite actors. I like it not only for the story but it shows Australian culture, language, and beautiful landscapes.

HILOT- I haven't seen this film yet but I am proud to say that it was produced in the Philippines by one of my treasured online friends, the Filipina actress, Melissa Mendez (artistmelissa in multiply). It's not a joke to produce a movie and act on it too. It deals with a relevant social issue- abortion- This is the first time Mele is producing a movie and I wish her success in her courage and efforts and contributions to the Filipino Film Industry.

So- if Australia is showing there near you please take time to watch it and if you are in the Philippines, let us support Mele and watch HILOT or better still, but a ticket and watch the premiere showing on January 20 2008 in SM City in Pasay City Philippines

Last but not the least, i WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! I will come back here every now and then as I still want to post a lot of photos. I haven't found my camera yet..but until then, take care and be happy!

Hello everyone!

That was the xmas tree last year. I am in the process of putting them up this weekend and I hope that I get done and share with you some photos. My camera is misplaced i have to look for it first.

Anyway, i hope that you are all in xmas moods and spirits.

Xmas is the most wonderful time for me, I get so mesmerised with all christmas songs, christmas trimmings in homes and shopping centres also add to my excitement. I will not do a lot of christmas shopping this year as I would like to donate to some charities who are in need of supplies for the less fortunate. But you have my thoughts and prayers for a blessed and happy christmas and the most wonderful of new years.

postcripts to a birthday

hayyy..i've survived the remembrance day. how did it go? well i got an emergency call at work from hubby.- can you come home as the plumber is coming in the afternoon?...as the obedient wife..i said OK..and I was happy to take the pm off too and headed home.

The plumber just took half an hour to do what he needed to do. He disconnected the taps/gas connections because we are removing the kitchen cabinets and sink and replace it with a different set up including a long overdue dishwasher.

I cooked some minced beef with celery/carrots with soy sauce for our tea.

Anyway, it's cheap tuesday movies so we all decided to have an early tea and head off to the AMC Cinemas form my bday. Somehow i felt a bit tired after cooking so i went for a a nap and slept for an hour or so as it was so quiet at home . I was woken by the Milo the cat -wanting some food.

Rest of the family arrived and wished me well with cards and presents.. A pair of crystal earrings from vivs, a jade pendant from ray a leaning pillow from the hubby and some cute cards. I also received calls from my mother dear who is now back in the Philippines after spending a month with Joseph iand Beth in VA, brod Ramon, and my friend from the Gold Coast, Armi (we talked for an hour or so as the last time I talked to her was on her birthday).
Also lovely greetings from my cyberfriends in 360 and multiply.

We headed to the AMC Cinema and watched this hilarious movied called Burn After Reading
starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Ray, David and I really laughed our heads off with the sillyness that was presented in that movie. Vivs was not able to come because she had to sleep for an early morning roster.

Anyway, the celebration will be on Sunday at Byblos with drinks and a sit down dinner. I haven't been to this place yet, somehow Viv and Ray arranged it all as it's their favourite place and they just assumed that I would enjoy it too. I think it's like a Mediterranean style bistro..hmmm that will be interesting. They had made a booking for us and a couple of friends a month ago....ahh the benefits of having housemates. Shall look forward to it though.

Well after the movie at 8:30pm, we called into Coles and bought some onions and other things. It was late but we had the following for our tea-

Minced beef that I cooked before
Steamed rice
Green salad (made up by Coles)
Apple pie (bought from Coles and heated in the oven) with thick cream and vanilla ice cream
Red wine for me and David and a Pepsi for Ray

It was a very relaxing day....thanks to all of you! and more photos here!

Everyone trying to remember ...me trying to forget because i get older each year...but for good cheers...have a beer, or one of my favourite pineapple juice or some sparkling wine (you can have the lot too!)and cheers to all of us for good health! I will just serve you drinks and have a great tete a tete as I know that like me, everyone is watching what they eat....actually I don't have time to cook as my other half have taken away my kitchen from inside my house and relegated it downstairs in the garage as we are doing the long overdue renovation of the old part of the house (which is the dining/kitchen)

I must post this now as I will be quite busy during the week as i work for the government that does not give us days off on our birthday...gee i wish my mortgage is all paid for so i can retire from work...that is my birthday wish...so i can spend more time in the blogworld with my beautiful friends.....LOL...i really mean it. xoxoxox and so i should also buy a lottery ticket as it seems the only chance for me to become a millionaire...God Bless you all! America had spoken-BARACK OBAMA/JOSEPH BIDEN

I've never been so interested in the US politics until this election because for the first time a non-white candidate was running for the top job.

Somehow in my formative years, growing up in a city in the Philippines which was the location of the R & R of the American nationals, better known as Camp John Hay in Baguio City, when "American' is uttered images of white caucasian, blue eyes, light brown or blonde hair is conjured up in my head and an American President is always a white guy. Now that had changed. At first because of colonial orientation where I still believe that 'whites' are sovereign, I thought that Obama did not have much of a chance.

As I was drawn to watching the news and hear him speak, I've never heard someone as eloquent as him with a rather masculine voice, one who can inspire, command, motivate and who had actually captivated me to listen to him talk. He was a person of substance.

It is indeed a landmark election for the USA presidency for electing the first black president. It is a significant event because it shows that people are more tolerant and looking beyond the physical colour of the skin in respecting/accepting people. Black or white, yellow or red, light brown, medium brown or dark brown has finally initiated to dismantle the barriers that inhibit harmony, peace and tolerance in this world that is moving towards globalisation. The intention to create change for the overall well being for all people of the world notwithstanding colour/race.

With the election of Senator Barack Obama I have realised that the world and America in particular is maturing towards how it should be, away from prejudices and acceptance that everyone can actually co-exist and it's now a far cry from the 'white supremacy' rule that had prevailed for awhile after World War II not only in the US but also in Australia with their "white policy' rule.

I admired John McCain too in being such a gracious loser who had urged his supporters to support the new President elect.

To both of them, Cheers and God Bless America and the World.

A movie Marathon

Somehow i got hooked watching some movies and several DVDs lately.

The movies I've watched so far were Mama Mia, The Other Boleyn Girl and the Duchess. The last 2 are period movies and of these 2 I preferred the story of The Duchess because I love happy endings.

The DVDs that I watched were Shawshank Redemption, Ratatoulle, Bee Movie, Across the Universe, Across the Universe, the Bucket List, Sweeney Todd and the TV series called The Chaser's War on Everything. I enjoyed Shawshank Redemption the most. I watched most of these while ironing our clothes! And that was a lot of clothes!

Our Pet Cat MILO

Ray recently acquired a female tabby cat who was called Milo. We tried to give it other names like Felicity and Lilycat but when David took it to the vet, he forgot the name we gave her and gave her original name, MILO to the vet so the vet provided a certificate in the name of MILO. Anyway, a cat with any other name is still a cat, right?

She's kept me busy since, attending to her needs. Ray was good for a week, David for 2 weeks, then the novelty wore off for both and I ended up looking after it most of the time. I am not complaining though as life seem rosier after we had Milo - she is like a little child to us, she is playful, affectionate and is great company. Even Vivian had grown really fond of her. We even buy her toys and fancy food.

This is the 3rd cat for us since 1992. We had gray cats before but they were all outside cats and eventually got lost. Milo, we decided will be a housecat and will just be kept indoor. She is toilet trained and very active- checking all the nooks and crannies at home. No mice will come near the house now.
