THE WORLD RECORD OF A TOAST ON A SINGLE VENUE

First a bit of history with success for First Portugal & later Japan & Last year in Boston USA

1 PORTUGAL (Two times :Pop Concert/beach at midnight New Years Eve(using wine)

Cheers Albufeira Prospero Ano Novo as they say in the Algarve. I had the great pleasure of flying to sunny Portugal for New Year’s Eve for an attempt at the Guinness World Records® record for the most people toasting (wine glasses raised) at the same venue. They were trying to beat a record set a few months ago again in Portugal (in Oporto) who had an impressive 19,175 people raising their glasses.

This new attempt took place at midnight on Albufeira beach and was organised alongside a big pop concert and firework display.The organisers were the local tourism department and had arranged for an independent official public notary to count the 28,000 glasses they handed out and then count what glasses were not used during the record attempt.

Most of the evening was spent with us both pushing through the huge crowd of at least 40,000 very high spirited Portuguese people (and a handful of hardy British onlookers) to all the handing out points for the glasses - on the beach and in front of the stage as well as up and down an electric staircase to the cliffs above.

Midnight arrived quickly with thousands of people toasting in the new year and champagne flying everywhere followed by some great fireworks and the main band Madcon arriving on stage.

I then got to stroll to the centre of the stage with a microphone and after saying a loud 'happy new year Albufeira!' l announced to the thousands of cheering Portuguese record breakers that a new record had been set at 26,564 wine glasses raised.

Tumultuous applause and cheering followed as I handed the certificate over to the mayor of Albufeira and the whole town partied long into the night.

2 JAPAN Base Ball ( using different drinks)

The largest toast was achieved by 27,126 participants and was organized by Tokyo Motto Genkini (Japan) at Meiji Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, Japan, on 26 June 2010.

The record attempt was done during the Tokyo Yakult Swallows vs Hashin Tigers baseball game. Among 27,789 who came to the stadium, 27,546 were in the seating area when the record attempt happened, and 27,126 people participated in the toast. More than 300 supervisors counted the partcipants.

On 26 June 2010, Guinness World Records™ was invited to the Tokyo Yakult Swallows vs Hanshin Tigers baseball game at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo to officially certify the largest toast at a single venue.

The event was organised by the ‘Tokyo Motto Genkini’ project whose aim was to cheer up people in Tokyo in the recession. More than 28,000 drinks and glasses were handed out to the crowd at the entrance and more than 300 staff were arranged to stand by in the seating area to count the actual participants.

The record attempt happened after the fifth inning. The former professional wrestler Antonio Inoki conducted the crowd to raise the glasses and say ‘Kanpai!’ (Cheers!) in unison.

Among 27,789 who came to the stadium, 27,126 people were counted to have participated in the toast. Guinness World Records™ adjudicator Kaoru Ishikawa verified the record attempt and announced the new world record after the seventh inning. The crowd cheered as the scoreboard screen showed the certificate presentation to Mr Inoki.

3 USA Boston 100 years Red Sox Stadium(using Limonade )

The largest toast at a single venue consisted of 32,904 participants organized by the Boston Red Sox to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, USA on 20 April 2012.

The toast was led by former Red Sox players Pedro Martinez and Kevin Millar, and occurred in a pregame ceremony before the Red Sox hosted the New York Yankees. Welch's brand provided 40,000 cans of sparkling grape juice and plastic cups to assist in the attempt.

What are my goals & Why AM I doing this?

I am doing this because I love BEER. Craft, Real Ales & Belgian Beerand I want other people to learn about Belgian beer and the centuries of craftsmanship it took to come to the variation of all different beers, all made in that little country called Belgium. A country where people love to live the good life in food and drink and now, probably & ironically when the further existence of that country itself is not sure at all , I try to give it a day where the whole country and the rest of the world can celebrate solidarity and camaraderie between beer-bar-brew people worldwide. I also want to bring the International Craft beer scene To Belgiumand show my fellow country peoples the styles and brews enjoyed worldwide.

But there’s more

1) I want to set up local Belgian beer days & weekends (with educational tastings and cooking) in the whole world starting in the USA. Events that are a tribute to the Burgundy way of life in Belgium and that will bring this drinking and eating culture to the attention and appreciation of the people of the world. Me, I just want to be closer to my best friends whom I met 10 Years ago at the burning Man Festival in Nevada, in the USA. I visited this festival and tried to spend as much of my free time with my friends during the rest of the year. Until two years ago when I was misled in an 8 month start up scam by two professionals. I didn’t only lose all my savings but after I was discriminated by a corporate brewery (that owned the place) for personal reasons I had a less fortunate period in my life, Two annoying surgeries made it impossible to work and i just wanted to go and see my friends and start a new career.

And so I came to the migration story of the Red Star Line: A migration museum is going to open here in my home town Antwerp about the migration of 55 million Europeans to The New World (USA & Canada). I felt really connected to their stories because I was feeling something of the same. Then I filed an idea (to find onbelgianbeerweekend.com ) with the City here, but because it was an election year, the credits had to go to somebody in office and running for another 6 year of snobby-culture-political-policy.

I couldn’t part with my idea of toasting over the ocean and was thinking, “What do you bring to a country you emigrate too?” The good things of your home country was the logical answer. Combining that with my love for beer and the burgundy way of life, the idea for a Belgian beer-day was born.

So last year after a whole winter behind the computer to get some computer skills and a couple of tries in the “normal” job world (were being social, which was my job for 25 years, is “differently” appreciated) I decided to go back to the plan and go for it. And now using Social

Media. So, on august 29 2012(my birthday I started tweeting under @belgianbeerday and

@captaincheers , now (today 22 August 2013) the two accounts have reached more than 15.239 UNIQUE FOLLOWERS in more than 119 Countries and are still growing strong . The website’s traffic also goes up every day and by adding new content almost daily, the statistics encourage me to continue with my project even more.

2) To set up a HUGE International Craft beer festival here in Antwerp. With seeing and feeling your passion on the twitter accounts that are connected to me, I am so curious about other Craft Beers and I know a lot of Belgians are curious as well. So I want to check out how to get a the craft breweries here to give us a taste of the international evolution in brewing. Belgians are beer lovers so I think they will certainly share the interest of tasting and drinking your local beers to.

3) Because I want to set up a global community to organize events & charities in a cooperation with bars,(home/Craft-beer )breweries, restaurants or other local Small or Medium Businesses. The intention is to offer the business owner or manager the opportunity to bring goodhearted or life enjoying people together on an event or charity. The first of the charities is the worldwide Thanks 4 Giving charity, because I believe it must be possible to avoid people being cold in wintertime or even worse that people die of the cold. If we bring our old or not used warm clothes to our local bars, restaurants or other Small businesses in the thanksgiving weekend and pick them up there (last year in Antwerp I had a friendly taxi company that picked up the bags and brought them to the help organization), there must be a way to get them to the people that need them in your city or to the organization’s that do that already but are always short in winter time.

So why am doing this? To start a new life? To show corporates that for some of us, it’s NOT all about the money and that there is something like a HUMAN factor in doing business. Or maybe to change the world and show that fun and charity go along together if you bring the right people together. And maybe to show all people, but especially the young ones, that it IS Ok to have crazy dreams and chase them. That it is ok to reach out and ask for some help? That if you ask, somebody out there will listen and that TOGETHER, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. (Even crazy dreams)

I know Now that it’s probably a good mix of all this and in the end the (almost) perfect plan is almost complete .

Going from (very) small and other nice Belgian breweries to suppliers of basic products for brewing (ingredients –installations- services ) To show the whole craft to the public and to meet each other on the market .I would also like to work with Buddy -cities around the world. So, if you were a BB-Day participant last year and you think you can find some people in your town to set something up, and to Toast with us in April LET ME KNOW so I can send an official invitation to your local community, organization or city leaders.

B) The Belgianbeerweekend Live (optional)

In the First Weekend of September you will be able to follow the oldest beer fest in Belgium Live on Belgian beer weekend .com It will be a media channel with more than semi-professional video’s live coverage and background information stories about the festival.

C) An International Craft Beer Festival In Antwerp, BELGIUM

The city of Antwerp has a rich history on beer brewing and Craft beer, Situated on a 40 minute drive from Brussels, and an hour from Bruges and Ghent its perfect for visiting the art cities in Belgium. Knowing that it only takes two hours by train to Amsterdam and three to Paris You can already feel that you are in for a treat.

Several parties could be willing to cooperate on this project so I take my Dream very seriously and I hope & believe that with their logistic & financial support, in combination with the motivation & efforts from the Beer community, we even can find other companies to contribute to make these festivals a success.

So from now on, I will give an update as soon as new things or important evaluations happen considering Belgian Beer Day. (or other things) So Where are we now In The USA ( 50% of the followers ) There are venues in different states and I think that in New York and other cities venues will sign up as soon as the press will mention the happening. Positive is the cooperation with a couple of huge Craft beer festivals in Florida, Texas and also in Canada ( 10 % of the followers) near Vancouver the Okanagan Fest of Ale is also an official participant of the international toast on April 6th . Than in Belgium the beer-club of Ghent has confirmed their cooperation. Antwerp has got their posters up and in Bruges people will get more posters after they started collecting them earlier this week . A press conference will be held as soon as a couple of practical issues will be solved. (due to the global(time) differences ) . In the UK, London has almost ten venues and more northern we have Leeds . Cyprus is present , Holland signed in their first venue today In China we have The Belgian Beer monument BEERMANIA in Beijing . Do not hesitate to join the fun its a simple toast (or more if you want) ; This weekend, the Beers and breweries I personally selected will be announced, so you will have a clear insight In WHO MY personal and completely subjective favorite PEOPLE are to work with. Those are the NICE people and breweries whom I worked with.in a positive way for more than 25 years as a bar owner and event organizer. the site will get more stories and things to know, there will be more video's and even a live bar at moments , ^please come in. This is the first year of the event and I set it up from much less than scratch. Since my last birthday on august 29 when I started the belgianbeerday twitter account I discovered a whole new world. As a beer-lover and bar-person I had a social life in my bar, but the life here on the internet was completely new to me . I soon discovered that there was a conversation going on . and not the bla-bla ,chit-chat that you nod to, but hardly listen to. But a community that was discussing the subjects that you (and me)were interested in. you could choose , there was openness and real freedom of speech. And if saw .the impact of your great interest and the surprising amount of people that interacted I knew there were opportunities to start all over. And just like in my starting years I found power in every small positive thing that happened on the way. Even When , all was going against me and I lost some loved ones earlier this month, I felt that I was gonna come back and work even harder, knowing that that was the way they would wanna see me go. I am very thankful to all of you out there for being patient and not putting me under any pressure. You kept on following me and together with the amount of followers my will to succeed grew as well . It means much to me that I am able to listen to you and your conversations or to feel how you react on some of my tweets. It gives me the feeling to belonging somewhere again. It gives me the the drive to make things happen , together with you for you and side by side with you. And like I said : THIS is YEAR #1 a lot of things have to be, and shall be improved, But for the most important thing "Making this happen and working on a solid base for the coming events ,charities and who knows what ... I can only thank YOU , Not only for the personal support I had from a couple of you earlier this month but in general for your presence and reactions, for you RT's and DM's . And now, in the last straight line to the first event it is nice to see that, as I came in as a stranger with a confused plan and a crazy dream, my belief grows daily that we will get there step by step . With 17 days to go,we're not there yet , the clock is ticking but it can be done, What all unites us is a social & simple thing , it's the love for beer. The idea is simple (a global toast involving beer-lovers worldwide celebrating the simple pleasure of having and enjoying a moment of shared rest and relaxation) and I am looking for people and Pub’s/bars (public places) to join us.

One of the major things to make this day (/night) a yearly event around the world is that we get support of everybody involved in this branch. Because I cannot do this alone, it is also up to you to get the people together for this event.

I am a 46 years (young) old Bar owner living in Belgium and trying to unite beer drinkers worldwide in a global event to celebrate the Art of brewing, the joy of tasting this quality product, but also the friendship and camaraderie that the pleasure of this craft-product brings to us, burgundy, life enjoying, Friendly Folks.

I want to organize this Belgian Beer day on the first weekend in April 2013. A global simultaneous Toast will be the main “moment supreme” of this day, a moment where we toast to the health of our fellow man where ever he or she may be , forgetting all boundaries or seas that separate us only geographically.

What am I asking of you? You can contribute in any way you like. I am gathering information of bars and breweries worldwide that are joining us and putting their effort in it as well. Your collaboration is absolutely and definitely needed to support this initiative.

New York and its origins.Legend and Reality

According to the legend, New York was founded in 1626 by the Dutch in the southern part of Manhattan Island. Some schoolbooks, history books, television broadcasts - and down to cigarettes makers - even say that the founder of New York was named Peter Stuyvesant.
The reality is somewhat different...
It is in May 1624 that the "Nieu Nederlandt", a ship chartered by the West India Company, arrived in sight of Manhattan Island. The vessel carried about thirty Belgian families: most of them were Walloons accompanied by a few Flemings.
The passengers were soon dispersed: eight men were left at the lower part of Manhattan and erected there a fort - on the site of the present Battery Park. Four couples and eight men were sent to the Delaware River, where they also built a fort (near the present town of Gloucester, New Jersey). Two families and six men were sent to the Fresh River (now Connecticut), where a small fort was built, on the site of the present city of Hartford. About eighteen families remained on the "Nieu Nederlandt" and proceeded up the Hudson. They finally landed near the present city of Albany (capital of the State of New York).
Those first steps in the colonization of this territory were actually the follow up of a process that started a century earlier.
It is indeed in 1524 that the French expedition led by the Florentine Giovanni Da Verrazzano discovered the New York bay for the first time. King Francis I being at war with Spain, the information was sent to the Record Office. During the next tens of years, the Spaniards were almost the only ones who showed interest for the New World and exploited its resources.

In 1555, Charles V abdicated in favor of his son Philip II. His intolerance soon brought the Netherlands in the chaos. The Duke of Alba, sent by the King of Spain, imposed a merciless repression towards the protestants, in rebellion against the misuses of the Catholic Church.
The excesses of the Inquisition leaded to a massive emigration of Walloons and Flemings to the North of the Netherlands, Sweden, England and Germany, to the "Gueux" (beggars) rebellion, and to the secession of the Northern Provinces, which took the name of United-Provinces. The southern Provinces stayed under the yoke of the Spaniards and continued to undergo the pangs of war.
In order to avoid any confusion, it is important to know that in the sixteenth century, the Netherlands covered a part of North of France and Lorraine, Belgium, Luxembourg and the present Netherlands. Its inhabitants were called the Belgians, and the maps represented the country in the shape of a lion: the "Leo Belgicus".
During the same difficult period, in Antwerp, was born Willem Usselinx. Son of a family active in the spices trading, he was later sent in Spain, Portugal and the Azores Island for his education. On his return from the Azores in 1591, Usselinx decided to leave Antwerp for Holland. Knowing how much Spain's wealth was coming from the American colonies, he wouldn’t rest until he convinced the Dutchmen to settle colonies in the New World, in order to fight the Spaniards.
Nearly thirty years of stubbornness and efforts were necessary from Willem Usselinx before the West India Company was finally founded in 1621. It is the one who chartered the "Nieu Nederlandt"...

Henri Hudson

In 1609, an English sailor named Henri Hudson discovered a great bay with a big river flowing into it from the mountains, at a latitude of forty-one degrees north and a longitude of seventy-four degrees west.
Hudson had been entrusted by the Flemings Emmanuel Van Meteren, Judocus Hondius and Petrus Plancius to discover a new passage to the land of Tartars and to China, on behalf of the East-Indies Company.
While he was exploring the coasts of America on his ship, luck would have him discover, 85 years after Verrazzano, the territory of the future New York, together with the river who was going to be called after him.

Jessé de Forest

Jessé de Forest was one of those Walloons who fled the religious persecutions. Born in Hainault in 1576, he left his native land and settled in Leyde, Holland. From that time, he moved heaven and earth to obtain the right to emigrate with his own and other Walloon families to the New World. During his stay, he also met English Pilgrims, future passengers of the Mayflower.
On February 5, 1621, Jessé de Forest sent a petition, written in French, to Sir Dudley Carleton, ambassador of his Majesty the King of England in The Hague.It applied for permission to settle in Virginia about fifty Walloons and French families. Jessé asked to dispose over a territory of eight English miles radius. Known as the Round Robin, this document is now preserved in the British Public Record Office.
On August 11, 1621, the Virginia Company gave an agreement in principle, but raised some restrictions. The worse one was her refusal to have the settlers dwell together in one autonomous colony. Jessé declined the proposition.
The foundation of the West India Company gave rise to the most clever plan in the Walloon’s mind.
Proposing his services and those of his fellow countrymen to the Dutch Company, Jessé informed her that a group of families practicing various trades had the opportunity to emigrate to America, on behalf on the English. Arguing that those colonist should rather be secured for the West India Company, he wished a quick response,adding that it was a take it or leave it offer.
The States of Holland, realizing the importance of such an opening for future colonization, immediately consulted the “Bewindhebbers” (Directors) of the Company, who were meeting in The Hague.
On August 27, 1622, after years of efforts delivered by Willem Usselinx and Jessé de Forest, the latter finally received the authorization to emigrate with other families to the West-Indies.
Left on reconnaissance for the coasts of Guyana in 1623, Jessé de Forest died on the Oyapok River bank (present borderline between Brazil and French Guyana), on October 22, 1624.
His daughter Rachel and his sons Isaac and Henri joined New-Belgium ten years later.

New-Belgium

From 1615, the region between Virginia and New-England was equally named New-Belgium (Novum Belgium, Novo Belgio, Nova Belgica, Novi Belgii) or New-Netherlands.
The name of Belgium refered to the ancient Netherlands, which covered a good part of the North of France and Lorraine, Belgium, Luxembourg and the present Netherlands. Its inhabitants were called the Belgians.
Besides, numerous maps from the sixteenth century showed this territory under the name of Belgium. The latter falled into disuse for the benefit of the Netherlands, and only reappeared in 1789 on the occasion of the first Belgian revolution.

Several seals of this period remind us that the territories surrounding the future New York were called New-Belgium. A first seal from 1623, bears a beaver - at the time, the trappers were almost the only ones to exploit the country -, encircled by the words "Sigillum Novi Belgii". The seal of the New-Amsterdam from 1654 mention "Sigillum Amstellodamensis in Novo Belgio"

Pierre Minuit

In 1626, Pierre Minuit, governor of New-Belgium, became famous by the purchase of Manhattan Island. He bought it from the Manhattes Indians in exchange for glittering beads and other trinkets. The total value was about sixty guilders or $ 24.
Pierre Minuit was a Walloon, born in Ohain, Brabant, who had fled the religious persecutions with his family.
Willing to defend the colonists interests, he also distinguished himself by the respect shown to those of the Indians. In his opinion, the harmonious mix and integration of two cultures - even apparently opposed - was preferable to the pure and simple throwing out of the weakest or so-called less civilized one.
Besides, tolerance was not particularly the strong point of the West India Company. Feudal organization, the latter enforced a series of strict rules for all colonists wishing to emigrate to New-Belgium: apart from public worship of the reformed religion, the settlers were required to make exclusive use of the Low-German - the language from which Flemish and Dutch are originated - in every public act of the colony.
A lot of family names got a Dutch “camouflage”, like Rapalje for Rapaille or Minnewit for Minuit. Other colonists were simply called by the name of the Dutch city they just left. The American historian Charles W. Baird, in his book “History of the Huguenot Emigration to America”, qualified this type of abuse as "Batavian disguise".
The settlers were also forbidden to weave wool or linen, make cloth or any other textile, at the risk of being banished or prosecuted as perjurers. The secret aim was to protect the monopoly for the imports from Holland.
The kindly and protective attitude of Pierre Minuit towards the settlers, and the covetousness of a Director from the Dutch company who wanted to impose his nephew as a governor, made that he was called back in 1632.
The trails of the Walloons and Flemish people in New York are numerous and often unknown: the Gowanus Bay for instance, west of Brooklyn, is named after Owanus, latin translation of Ohain, the native village of Pierre Minuit. The Wallabout Bay, north of Brooklyn, is a deformation of the Dutch "Waal bocht" (Walloon Bay)
The name Hoboken, well known district of New York, comes from a municipality near Antwerp, Flanders. Communipaw, in Jersey City,is the contraction of Community of Pauw. Michel De Pauw, native of Ghent in Flanders, had also bought Staten Island from the Indians in 1630.
As to Peter Stuyvesant, to whom some people absolutely wish to attribute the paternity of the founding of New York, he only arrived in 1647, that is twenty-three years after the landing of the first settlers.

American gratitude

On May 20, 1924, for the tercentenary of the founding of New York, a monument was erected in honor of the Walloon settlers, on the site of Battery Park, in the southern part of Manhattan.

A 50 cents silver coin, commemorating the tercentenary of the arrival of the Walloons was also put into circulation at the same time.
The government of the United States paid also homage to the firstsettlers with the issuing of 1, 2 and 5 cents postage stamps.

Belgian oblivion

People may ask oneself why the real circumstances wrapping the foundation of New York remain, even today, almost unknown in the present Belgium.
The schoolbooks and history books are dumb about the subject. Recently, "Génies en herbe" (Green genious), a game organized by the RTBF (Belgian French-speaking Radio and Television) between different schools, asked to the candidates who was the founder of New York. The supposedly good answer was... Peter Stuyvesant. An answer who teaches a lot about the oblivion into which the ancestors of the participants... and organizers are fallen!
This oblivion can be explained in different ways. There is one who seems plausible: the founders of New York being Walloons and Flemish protestants, Belgium being catholic, and the teaching having been for a long time influenced by the Catholic Church, one may assume that the latter deliberately occulted this period of our history.
After three hundred and seventy-five years, the Walloon and Flemish settlers doesn't seem to have gained the forgiveness of the Catholic Church.
Ill feelings are sometimes persistent...

MAAR... met Jupiler of met Heineken ??? ??

"Wij gaan morgen met twee brouwerijen bellen..., daar moeten we toch ook uitkomen ...of niet soms....?"

Hoe is het zover gekomen ?

Het idee van die toast in een voetbalstadion heb ik al van in het prille begin van mijn project nog samen met de gedachte om dit tussen New York en Antwerpen te doen begin april 2013. Ik heb daarover ook al contact gehad met de voetbalbond ivm de vriendschappelijke interland tegen de USA.( toen het in de match daar vlak voor helemaal mis liep voor de Dekelse Duivels. en toen ik samen zat met Inbev in Brussel heb ik daar met hen ook over gepraat.

Dus toen ik vorige week naar de bond belde om een afspraak te maken met hunzelf en de marketing verantwoordelijke voor Jupiler (sponsor van onze eerste en de Nederelandse tweede klasse) was ik heel verbaasd toen ik te horen kreeg dat het drankcontract van die wedstrijd in handen was van Brouwerijen Alken Maes een rechtstreekse dochter van de andere bikkelharde wereldspeler in Bierland nl. Heineken.

Nu word ik elke dinsdag en woensdag al extreem nijdig en lichtelijk onwel als ik meer dan tien keer de nutteloze aanwezigheid moet tolereren van een arrogant groen flesje in een reclameblokje op een commerciële zender waarvan elke kijker nog liever zure melk drinkt dan dat Hollandse water-derivaat . En moet ik er dan gerust in zijn dat alles goed komt als ik van plan ben een welverdiend eerbetoon aan Belgisch bier te houden .

Ik probeer ook al sinds het prille begin de verschillende partijen in de complexe brouwerij wereld dichter bij elkaar te brengen omdat het voor mij duidelijk is dat enkel een samenwerking tussen héél grote beursgerelateerde multinationals en de kleinere ambachtelijke vaak adellijke familiebedrijven zal kunnen resulteren in de optimale marketingstrategie die ook voor alle partijen op alle internationale markten de meest rendabele resultaten zal bewerkstelligen.

Hoe gaat het nu verder ?

Ik geloof en hoop dat de belangen het best kunnen verdedigd worden als iedereen zijn know how en kwaliteiten op de verschillende niveaus inzet en we zo ook alle mensen die echt van Belgisch Bier houden samen kunnen mobiliseren en dit "Laatste stukje Belgenland" nog lang mogen koesteren.

Dit is het nieuwe Schema voor de rest van dit jaar

Tijdens het Paasweekend is er een Belgian Beer Weekend in Café 't Bolleke waarbij vijf traditionele Antwerpse bieren een vijftal andere bekende Belgische KwaliteitsBieren op bezoek krijgen..

Dit van witte Donderdag tot en met Paasmaandag in het echte hartje van de Stad vlak naast de Kathedraal.

Op 15 augustus zouden we dan de toast in het stadion doen en het wereldrecord om op één plek gelijktijdig te cheersen verbreken ;.... maar als we in de hoofdsteden van de provincies in België (en ook misschien in Nederland) op de grote pleinen nog hier en daar een groot scherm neerpoten , DAN kunnen er daar ook nog eens Tweeduizend man per stad meedoen, het is dan toch verlof en dat is dan nog een recordje bij ...(maar vooral ook gezellig)

Op het einde van jaar gaat normaal ook de Thanks 4 Giving Kleding inzamel actie weer door om er zo voor te zorgen dat er in België tijdens de winter NIEMAND kou moet lijden.

I had the great pleasure of flying to sunny Portugal for New Year’s Eve for an attempt at the Guinness World Records® record for the most people toasting (wine glasses raised) at the same venue. They were trying to beat a record set a few months ago again in Portugal (in Oporto) who had an impressive 19,175 people raising their glasses.

Midnight arrived quickly with thousands of people toasting in the new year and champagne flying everywhere followed by some great fireworks and the main band Madcon arriving on stage.

Tumultuous applause and cheering followed as I handed the certificate over to the mayor of Albufeira and the whole town partied long into the night.

The largest toast was achieved by 27,126 participants and was organized by Tokyo Motto Genkini (Japan) at Meiji Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, Japan, on 26 June 2010.

Largest Toast At A Single Venue

The record attempt happened after the fifth inning. The former professional wrestler Antonio Inoki conducted the crowd to raise the glasses and say ‘Kanpai!’ (Cheers!) in unison.

Among 27,789 who came to the stadium, 27,126 people were counted to have participated in the toast. Guinness World Records™ adjudicator Kaoru Ishikawa verified the record attempt and announced the new world record after the seventh inning. The crowd cheered as the scoreboard screen showed the certificate presentation to Mr Inoki.

It was a happy day for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows fans. The team beat Hanshin Tigers 4-2.

Het horeca nieuws van de dag in Antwerpen (sommige stukken toch) was dat na vele jaren van uitbundige feesten en (geloof me) miljoenen liters bier, er een einde komt aan een legende in het Antwerpse studentenleven nl. Den Hill Diar.
Den Hill , zoals het genoemd werd, was door de jaren heen voor, waarschijnlijk ook miljoenen, jonge mensen op weg naar volwassenheid een plaats waar ze die aanpassing in groep konden doormaken. Hun post-puberale groeipijnen konden aldaar reken op verschillende, reeds jarenlang beproefde, "pijnstillers" op basis van alcohol, muziek, hormonen en nooit geproefde vrijheid.
Het is een periode uit ieders leven waaraan we allemaal beste herinneringen en nog betere verhalen overhouden .In die jaren was het echt elke avond een feest waarbij Den Hill dikwijls het toneel (letterlijk en figuurlijk) was van zowel zalige zuip-partijen tot onvergetelijke emo-momenten met je beste vriend of vriendinnetje van die tijd. Een plek van 's morgens na een nachtje door, een plek om af te spreken voor dat belangrijk bal of soms om gewoon urenlang te discussiëren al was dat op voorhand zeker niet het plan.
Woensdag is er nog een laatste feest, en daarna dan zien we wel. Helemaal weg dat kan toch niet daarvoor zijn er voor zoveel mensen nog eens zoveel herinneringen die deel uitmaken van een soort collectief , generatie-ongevoelig geheugen dat er toe bijdraagt, dat alleen een studenten-café met zo'n geschiedenis en staat van dienst door de jaren heen tot een Legende uitgroeien.
Den Hill Diar werd voor mij,een decennium lang een stuk van mijn leven, dat toen enkel en alleen bestond uit het maken plezier en hard werken.Een Thuis voor mij (en niet voor mij alleen) die door de jaren en generaties heen, zoveel, en eigenlijk ook niks veranderd is.Een plek waar je altijd naartoe kon en die ik met trots en voor altijd, als een warme familiale, als collectieve en sociale habitat zal herinneren.

D-day nadert. Tegen vrijdag zou ik op kruissnelheid moeten zijn, zouden alle alle grote lijnen duidelijk moeten zijn en zou er zelfs al een voorlopige realistische planning of tijdsschema opgemaakt en af mogen zijn.

Heb ik een tijd geleden mijn leven al een extra boost gegeven omdat de behoefte om terug écht gepassioneerd en bezeten bezig te zijn me gewoon te machtig werd. Ik blijf me nog wel bezig houden met liefdadigheid maar niet meer aan 100 uren per week, De acties zijn gerichter en zullen enkel in het weekend plaatsvinden. ik kan u nog niet alle details geven vandaag maar hopelijk lukt me dat nu vrijdag of zeker de week erna wel.

Een volle maand ben ik nu al bezig met alles terug op het juiste spoor te brengen en als 26 dagen geheelonthouder kan ik u vertellen dat dat wel meevalt mits de nodige regelmaat en motivatie. Ik ben ook aan mijn gezondheid aan het werken met een redelijk dieet en meer lichaamsbeweging (waarover later deze week ook meer ) Er gaan ook twee of drie evenementen bekend gemaakt worden zodra ik u concreter kan inlichten over het hoe en waar, Dit kan je vanaf volgende week terugvinden op de nieuwe versie van de site Belgianbeerday.com. Maar ik kan je nu al vertellen dat ik niet minder ambitieus ben geworden om mijn droom te realiseren.

Probeer het maar eens , te pas en te onpas tijd vrijmaken om even alles door te geven.
Het was vandaag weer productief in de zin van dat mijn Twitter account weer wat bij gewerkt is en dat we de "nieuwen" weer tot het weekend geven om terug te volgen zodat we weer nieuwe mensen kunnen uitnodigen.
Morgen werken we na de voetbal verder aan de BELGIAN BEER DAY site die op 1 maart gelanceerd wordt in een nieuwe vorm. En met een nieuw concept . Belgianbeerweekend is al over genomen door Japanners. Lang leve het internet en goede ideeën, Altijd blijven geloven in je eigen kracht zeg ik dan en werk hard verder om mijn dromen te bewerkstelligen. Nog Toffe Krokus dagen , ni te hard vasten vanaf morgen en
slopwel.

Het was een uur of half elf en toen ik het wist, met glans geslaagd , wat zeg ik 84 % ; het gemiddelde van drie vakken 75,87 en 90 % Dat is ,ni zo slecht al zeg ik het zelf maar ja ik was dan ook de Primus vandaag Dat was lang geleden .
En nu begint het pas , als een bang bibberend dier de arbeidsmarkt op .......NEE ik denk het ni , wel de markt op maar ni bang. ik ben er klaar voor .
Als ZIJ er dan ook klaar voor zijn dan zijn we pas heel goe bezig en dan begin ik echt aan mijn tweede leven . Ook wel vol ambitie en met de bedoeling er iets tof van te maken, een soort uitdaging waarvoor je even terug helemaal opnieuw moet beginnen . Ik ga ervoor , terug voor alles ,maar iets beredeneerder want de drang tot feest zal hopelijk nooit verdwijnen maar ik weet zeker dat ik binnen twintig of dertig jaar toch nar dàt speciaal supergestoord feestje zal WIILLEN gaan. Ik leg hopelijk straks nog wat geschiedenis uit en ga nu deze Blog in mijn sites te proberen toveren
