The old adage has it that you're never more than six feet away from a rat in London. Could be true, probably isn't. But each summer there is something you're never far from within our capital's glamorous Zone 1: ludicrously expensive supercars.

In the last few years, London has become a magnet for the shiniest supercars from around the world. Each summer they migrate like 98-octane, high-horsepower swallows, from the broiling Middle East to the most exclusive parts of Kensington and Knightsbridge. All to experience the voracious buzz of being stuck in Crossrail's construction traffic, the panic of paying the Congestion Charge and the endless game of cat-and-mouse with traffic wardens.

And we deployed Alex Penfold - Top Gear's car paparazzo - to keep a check of what the mega-rich have brought to our city's streets this summer. If you click through the gallery above, you'll see there's quite a lot.

But if you're in London for your holidays and fancy having a go at becoming a supercar snapper yourself, all you need to do is follow these steps. Since the company's introduction in 1999, Noble has released a total of six cars. All of them were highly entertaining, but the M600 is the first one to live up to the supercar label. The M600 might not have the same brand recognition as its Italian competitors, but its 650bhp Yamaha twin-turbo V8 and 225 estimated top speed certainly can keep pace with them.

AUDI’S S7 IS A NEAR-PERFECT HIGHWAY CRUISER

EXECUTIVE EDITOR RORY CARROLL: I was a huge fan of our dearly departed long-term Audi S7. Over the course of our loan, I put thousands of miles on the white-wonder, driving it to and from Traverse City, Mich. most weekends. I recently made the same trip in this short-term example and I was reminded just how perfect the S7 is as a highway cruiser.

This car gets a lot of attention from pedestrians. While carrying a cooler from the big hatch to my dad’s pontoon boat, I heard someone yell “Go Green!” Realizing I was wearing my Michigan State hat, I turned and hollered “Go White!” to the small group of swimwear-clad 20-somethings crowded around the S7. As the crowd moved on, one of the young men in the group turned to another and said, “I love it when I see a Spartan with a badass car.” I didn’t have a chance to explain that I couldn’t afford the wheels on the S7.

I am definitely not a fan of the “layered aluminum and black wood inlays” in the interior of our test car. The wood is beautiful, but the aluminum is arranged in a kind of pinstripe pattern that one passenger said looked like “the kind of shirt that a high school sophomore from Kansas would pair with a fluorescent tie for prom night.” Had the aluminum been arranged in another pattern, or had there been less of it, it might not have been quite so bad.

SENIOR ROAD TEST EDITOR NATALIE NEFF: No matter how many times I see an Audi S7, the sheer beauty of the car strikes me. I just never tire of the shape, even after having lived with a long-term model for a year. It’s easily one of the most beautiful cars made since my tenure as a car writer started nearly 20 years ago. Probably didn’t hurt that I spent two weeks driving over 6,000 ‘round the country in an A7 when it first launched to endear it to me.

Inside, the car is a joy to live with. It’s a lovely cabin, and all the controls are so intuitive and easy to access. The bonus: the hatchback! Give me a fifth door and I’m a happy, happy girl. I do get Rory’s beef with the aluminum pinstripe effect, but it didn’t bother me. I didn’t go to prom in Kansas, but my date did wear high tops with his long-tail tux, so maybe that explains it.

And yet…maybe it’s because I love the underlying A7 so much that it pains me to find any fault with the S7, which on paper should be my dream car. The problem is in the execution of the powertrain. The engine is powerful enough, true; 420 horses is nothing to sneeze at, even pulling over 4,500 pounds around. And the car handles really well, the mass well controlled, the tires not too bangy over potholes and lateral transitions smooth and predictable. No, it’s where the engine torque meets the seven-speed where things get a bit wonky. The delay from pedal depression to wheels turning is so frustrating, and no matter where on the tach you call for power, tranny shifts just lack the refinement, the crispness you expect from a car wearing a premium brand’s badge.

In a car that does so much right, that should blow the doors off the vast majority of midsize four-doors in any category you can name, it’s all the more disappointing that Audi couldn’t polish the transmission a skosh more before rolling out this car.

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg makes it four poles in a row, takes top spot at Spa

Nico Rosberg outpaced Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to take his fourth straight pole in a tricky wet session at Spa.

It was also only the fifth time in 12 races that Mercedes has locked out the front row, an indication that it hasn't always gone to plan for the team. Meanwhile Hamilton has not been on pole since the Spanish GP in May.

Over the lunch break, a heavy rain storm that even included hail ensured that the track was soaking wet for qualifying, and further showers meant that the track remained wet for the duration. However, despite the conditions, it proved to be relatively uneventful as Mercedes utterly dominated all three sessions.

Rosberg was fastest in Q1, but the tables were turned in Q2 as Hamilton pipped him. However when it mattered in Q3 Hamilton had some brake issues, so he struggled to get a clean lap in. After a couple of moments he ended up 0.228 second behind Rosberg.

“It was not quite as difficult out there as on some other occasions as conditions were always intermediate,” said Rosberg, who has never been on the podium in Spa. “It's only qualifying, and a long race tomorrow, but I'm happy. We have a great car here, we're leading the way, and it's so cool to see that.”

“I had a glazed front left brake so the car was pulling to the right,” said a clearly disappointed Hamilton. “This is a circuit where, like all circuits, you need to have confidence in the brakes.”

There was a huge gulf to the rest, with a 2.126 margin from Rosberg on pole to Sebastian Vettel in third. Red Bull expected to struggle at a track where straightline speed is so important, so the weather obviously helped.

“I think it was the best we could do today,” said Vettel. “It was obviously very tight behind the Mercedes. It was tricky out there, especially in low downforce, and especially through Eau Rouge.”

Fernando Alonso jumped up to fourth right at the end, ensuring that there are two World Champions on the second row and waiting to pounce if the Mercs hit any trouble. Daniel Ricciardo took fifth in the other Red Bull, while Valtteri Bottas was only sixth at a track where Williams was expected to push Mercedes hard. Kevin Magnussen was seventh for McLaren, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, and Jenson Button.

The fastest driver not to make it out of Q2 was Daniil Kvyat, who lines up 11th, ahead of Toro Rosso team mate Jean-Eric Vergne. Sergio Perez took 13th, ahead of Adrian Sutil, Romain Grosjean and Jules Bianchi, the Marussia driver having done well to progress from Q1.

Those who failed to make it out of Q1 were led by Pastor Maldonado in 17th, the Lotus driver struggling to make up for losing all of FP2 yesterday to a crash and not helping his cause with a spin. Surprisingly the next driver who failed to progress was Nico Hulkenberg, who usually shines in mixed conditions. The German reported that he had problems with his brakes getting too cold.

The field was completed by Max Chilton, Esteban Gutierrez, Andre Lotterer and Marcus Ericsson. Rookie Lotterer, who has plenty of wet weather experience from Japan, was a second clear of his Caterham team mate.

2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 starts at $78,995

650-hp C7 Stingray goes on sale early next year

The Ferrari-beating, do-everything 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 will start at $79,990 including destination, when it goes on sale early next year. That price undercuts nearly all competitors, including the Dodge Viper at $102,485. The convertible version will start at $84,990, also not including destination. We’re waiting on Chevy for that.

The track-terrorizing Z06 will arrive with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. The new LT4 engine gets direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, which makes it “surprisingly efficient,” according to Chevy.

The Z06 is offered in three main trims: 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ. Options include, but aren’t limited to, a leather interior, carbon fiber ground effects, Performance Data Recorder, competition sport seats in leather or suede, carbon fiber interior trim and a carbon roof panel.

Volvo reportedly mulling another Polestar model

V40 and XC60 being considered for next collaboration with Swedish tuning house

Volvo is considering another production Polestar version of one of its cars, which could be the V40 or the XC60, according to Autocar. Swedish tuner Polestar's first official collaboration with Volvo came in the form of the C30 hatch, before Volvo tested the waters in a bigger way with the S60 sedan in Australia. The automaker and the tuning house recently collaborated once again on a group of 350-hp S60 sedans and V60 wagons for the U.S. market, which have recently gone on sale. But all of those efforts have been relatively small-scale, with just 40 examples of the S60 sedan and 80 examples of the V60 wagon having been built for the U.S.

Volvo is looking for the next project to collaborate on with Polestar, and according to Volvo global powertrain boss Derek Crabb it could either be the small V40 hatch or the XC60 crossover. The former isn't sold in the U.S., while the XC60 crossover has been on sale here for a few years. Crabb told Autocar that a decision had not been made yet, and that different markets were leaning toward different models.

"If you ask each of the individual markets which [Polestar] they want, some will say V40, some will say XC60, some will say S60," Crabb told Autocar. "I don’t think we can do that commercially, so we are trying to rationalize that."

If Volvo does go ahead with the V40, it would most certainly not make it to the U.S., as Volvo has no short-term (or long-term) plans to introduce the V40 to North America. The V40 is offered in standard five-door and five-door Cross Country spec in other markets, with the top-spec versions powered by a 254-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque T5 engines. The V40 is positioned below the V60 and does not have a corresponding sedan variant. The XC60, on the other hand, is on sale in North America and is powered by a 300-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six.
