Ok I thought I was making a smart purchase about a year ago by getting a FAT or PHAT backwards compatible PS3. Yeah, I guess I was chasing the rainbow on that idea since little did I know at the time that these older fat consoles hide a little secret..THE DREADED YELLOW RING OF DEATH, or aka YLOD.

The Yellow line of death rears it's ugly head usually as a result of the fact the system has overheated. The older PS3's are famous for this and if you ask me, Sony should give us all a refund for a faulty console!!! Now..there are, a lot of sites and videos out there that will tell you how to fix the YLOD but what they don't tell you is this is just a temporary fix at best.
Whether you use a heat gun your motherboard, reball, replace the power supply, flux it, what ever....your system is still living on borrowed time. An honest repair shop will tell you this is a waste of time and money. The best case scenario, get your system working long enough to transfer your data to a new PS3 slim.

On a personal note, as I said before, Sony should issue refunds!!! This is an outrage. The system is faulty, they know it, we know it and the world knows it. All the repairs in the world won't keep it from eventually tanking out. The next question is, do we go and reward Sony's faulty product by again buying from them???

James Rolfe, age 31, reportedly has been filming reviews of games since the late 80's (he must have started as child...) notoriety and fame started to climb after a filmed review 2006.

On September 12, 2006, James Rolfe gained attention when his review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became viral on YouTube. His videos on Youtube have gained over 30 million views monthly and has 670,000 suscribers as of January 2012. Pretty impressive for a guy who looks like he lives in his mom's basement and has no life.

Alas, we know he has a life, it's all a part of his character. You may be surprised to know Rolfe has been acting for some time now, and has lended his talents to many projects. For a complete list be sure to check out James Duncan Rolfe on Wikipedia.

What makes James Rolfe so successful at this venture is the fact that not only can he rant like no other but he also happens to be an astute observer that can also verbally hold your attention, even through the most vile profanity you've ever heard in your life, but I guess it is hard to be angry and not let the adjectives fly.
Unreal Tournament III, isn't what the name would suggest, it's a common FPS multiplayer with online game play. The game shares similar characteristics with Gears of War II, which came out in the same year. The style of the game is a fast paced FPS game with splendid graphics, effective game play and memorable gimmicks.

I've played both of them on the PS3 and Xbox 360, there's slight sound glitches with the PS3 version, but that might just be me. Other than that, it's a pretty great FPS for the price, I mean, I got it pre-owned at Gamestop for $5.00, for game like that, it's a steal.

Let's begin with the cons:
Whenever your starting a match, it takes a few seconds for the textures to load, which is somewhat irritating. The problem should be eliminated if the game is installed on the hard drive. Another con is that the control settings are difficult to adjust for "n00bs" to FPS games. The campaign, it's a little tiresome to just be fighting bots throughout the story line. Speaking of which, the story-line lacks character development, the only way you actually find out about the characters is when your browsing through them in the player selection. As far as I've seen, the game's story-line doesn't even involve most of the characters. The chapter where your in matches with the Liandri seemed to be just filler, the only time when the matches seem to have a point is the end where you're in matches with the Necris.

Now to begin the pros:
Starting with the Gameplay. When your in the heat of battle, you tend to have your adrenaline pumping, which that itself is an achievement. There's a colorful selection of weapons ranging from a shock-rifle to a powerful rocket launcher. There is a wide selection of levels to choose from and the design of the battlefields look pretty great. The vehicles are inconvenient, but you can have so much fun riding in the scorpion or the manta. Overall, this is a pretty good game, I would recommend this game to anyone, especially since it's so cheap nowadays.

God of War: The Series Review

Image via Wikipedia

Intro

When I first put this game in my console, I was thinking "Oh, another game based on Greek mythology, it shouldn't be anything special. But by the Gods of Olympus, I was terribly incorrect. The intro shows a man with ashen, white skin saying: "The Gods of Olympus have abandoned me..." Right off the bat I thought the voice acting was really good. Kudos to TC Carson who brings the main character Kratos to life in this series.
Your journey begins on a ship in the mythical "Aegean Sea" where these lovely beasts called "Hydras" are destroying the ships and sailors, withe the help of a legion of undead soldiers. You know the challenges to come are only going to get more intense from here....

Gameplay

The fighting style of Kratos (the main character you play as) is so fluent and fun, nothing is more satisfying than turning your enemies into mincemeat with the Blades of Chaos. The level of destruction you can levy against your enemies is only limited by your own imagination here.
When fighting the Hydra, you have to read it's simple attack pattern and keep attacking. Then a Minigame icon appears above it's head, you attach the blades to it and you slam it's head against the walls. I was truly speechless, for 2005 game that was pretty impressive for a game to have that kind of brutality.
As the game progresses, you get extra abilities and you get orbs which help you level up the weapons and abilities you acquire. If you pay attention to your surroundings and get every orb you can get, you'd be a pretty powerful warrior by the end of the game. While an extremely brutal game, the cut scenes are great, not too long- but usually a welcomed site after you've been deluged with one battle after another. You go on a great adventure with this game and when you complete it, you feel as though you have been through the fires of Hades and emerged on the other side victorious. A must buy, if you are into these types of games.

Music

It's pretty typical for games to have this style of soundtrack, I personally loved the soundtrack to this game. Speaking of personal, the soundtrack was supposed to represent Kratos' feelings that is typically what all background music does, it's either there to convey the main characters feelings or to help you the player/watcher get a sense of the overall mood taking place. Overall I'd say it has a pretty good soundtrack.

But at the time when the game came out, it was spectacular. The story, the game play, the graphics were good but still limited.

The game play was nice and fluent, and the developers continued to use that same style throughout the series. Out of the whole series, I believe that this is the longest running out of all the games. After the game was released, it immediately was rated a 9.3 on GameSpot.

The plot revolves around a spartan warrior who serves the gods with promises of his past memories and nightmares being rid of. He's given a final quest to go and kill the God of War, Ares. Hence the title being "God of War". It's not often this type of brutal, action-adventure game comes around. At the time, people were amazed at how incredible the game was. Overall, the game was fantastic back then, and is still remembered to be legendary today.

Plot:

When you start up the game, you see one half of Kratos' face as you did in the previous game. After he killed Ares, he was given the throne of the God of War. He commands his army to attack and conquer the city of Rhodes in Greece. He leaves his throne to aid his men when Zeus takes the form of an eagle and takes away Half of Kratos' god powers. Then he revives a Colossus Statue to destroy him (while ironically destroying everything in his path).

Kratos defeats the statue at the cost of sacrificing all of his godly powers and putting them into the Blade of Olympus. The falling hand of the statue smashes Kratos and breaks his armor, mortally wounding him. Zeus appears and takes the Blade of Olympus and drives it through his torso, killing him. Kratos vows to take revenge on Zeus and he aligns with the Titans to do so.

Gameplay:

The same exact engine used to make God of War 1 was used to make this game. The only difference is you get more items and weapons. You get a virtually useless spear and a somewhat useful hammer, and you get Typhon's Bane which is just a Bow & Arrow utilizing what I believe is the element of wind.

Plot:

Immediately after the events that took place in God of War II, Kratos is temporarily aligned with the Titans in the Second Great War. Poseidon attempts to dispatch Gaia and Kratos protects her from him by fending off his poorly bred horses. Ripping their jaws off and stabbing them with their own appendages, fantastic. Once you take Poseidon from the sea, you get a First Person View from Poseidon of Kratos brutally pulverizing him.

Once Poseidon is killed (by gouging his eyes out and throwing him off the cliff), Gaia informs Kratos that they are close to Zeus, and they go up the mountain, meet him, and they unfortunately they are cast to the edge of the Mountain while Gaia tells Kratos he's a mere pawn and then Kratos falls to Hades. (Or more specifically, the River Styx). The river Styx takes away all of his powers and ruin his Blades. He then meets an after image of Athena who gives him the Blades of Exile. He then begins his quest to find and kill Zeus yet again.

Gameplay:

It's still not different from it's predecessors, but there are drastic improvements. Instead of getting crappy extra weapons with good powers. You get good powers with actually good extra weapons that have their own unique ability. You also get to use the Blade of Olympus more frequently. Throughout the game he uses it to finish certain enemies off.

Overall:

It's a wonderful game, and a fantastic way to end the God of War series. (There are rumors of a sequel coming out in 2012).

Rating:
10/10 Excellent game in all aspects.
You can tell this is the game that didn't go forth in the name of Olympus, aside from the title.

Plot:

This takes place before God of War I, where in this one Kratos is merely doing the bidding of the gods with promises of forgotten deeds. Helios is captured by Atlas and Persephone so Morpheus could "lullaby the gods to sleep".

Game play:

The one I've played is the one that was ported to the PS3 with God of War : Ghost of Sparta, and the game play paled in comparison to it's predecessor which was made 3 years from it. Every time I tried evading the camera twitched, and speaking of the camera, there isn't even as many screen shakes as it used to be. And you sadly only get ONE magic attack throughout the game. The graphics are excusable due to it being a game on the portable console. Aside from those flaws, the game play is alright.

Epilogue/Rating:

Beyond that has been said, the game is the runt of the God of War Trilogy. I'd give it a 7 / 10.

Spec Ops Airborne Commando

Where do I begin? If you love Spec Ops Ranger Elite and Spec Ops Covert Assault, you'll hate this game. Why? Well for starters, Spec Ops Ranger Elite and Covert Assault were originally offered by Runecraft Take-Two Interactive. Spec Ops Airborne Commando comes along, you expect the same style game play, and user interface but nope, you now realize they changed the developers and the publisher to Big Grub & Gotham Games, Big mistake in my book. The game play and graphics are horrid, and to make matters worse, before you can even get to the actual game play you are taken to a difficult "training course" that is almost impossible to beat because the instructions are extremely vague. See below:

Spec Ops Airborne Commando

Now for some of you, you may think this isn't so lame but when you consider the fact you can't even get to this part until you pass the "training segment" which sucks and doesn't really "teach" you anything, nor does it explain what you need to know in any detail you'll quickly give up trying with this game. This game is a complete "snoozer."
