Now available on DVD: The Unopened Milk Carton - Eating with Assistance

Encouraging and assisting older individuals to feed themselves promotes functional independence. Proper preparation of items on the tray enables residents to easily manage food independently either with a fork or fingers. Remember, an unopened milk carton or juice container may be an insurmountable barrier for residents. Demonstrations of eating and feeding provide essential guidance for nursing assistants, home health aides, and family caregivers. This educational video is now available on DVD from Video Press.<div class="feedflare">

The Memory Loss Tapes: "The Lady in The Mirror"

Recently HBO has produced a national public awareness campaign on Alzheimer’s called "The Alzheimer’s Project" (www.hbo.com/alzheimers/) including four documentary feature films and 15 supplemental films on medical research as well as the true life tales of caregiving and living with the disease. "The Memory Loss Tapes," one of the four feature films and directed/produced by Shari Cookson and Nick Doob, is a verité documentary with seven segments profiling people living with Alzheimer's. The fourth segment in the documentary is titled "Lady in The Mirror" and was filmed on location at Cherrywood Nursing Home in Maryland, and produced by Susan Hannah Hadary, Director of MedSchool Maryland Productions and Video Press. Be sure to check out "The Lady in the Mirror" (about half way through the film) which profiles Yolanda Santomartino 6 years after her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Yolanda can't recognize her own reflection and struggles with visions of snakes in her wheelchair but still enjoys having her hair done and talking with people in this short glimpse of Alzheimer's.<div class="feedflare">

Better My World Project

New web-based technologies now make educational out-reach to at-risk teens possible and far more effective. Delivering health prevention messages to inner city teens has long been problematic. Under funding from The Abell Foundation, Video Press demonstrated an innovative communication channel using emerging digital technologies now popular with urban teens. Workshops, billboards, posters, even DVDs are nearly obselete as intervention strategies. Digital web-based technologies transforms traditional access numbers in the hundreds into potentially of thousands of a target populations with 24/7 access on an on-going basis. Better My World is a digital violence prevention campaign for Baltimore teens, that included the production of hip-hop violence prevention videos, personalized teen videos, music, ringtones and digital wallpaper. These digital materials are made available as free downloads and posted on teen frequented websites like Facebook, Myspace and YouTube...<div class="feedflare">
