I’ve always enjoyed slow days, but not boring days, just slow days. The weeks seem to accelerate when you’re older, and I’m constantly trying to slow things down. It’s not an easy task, but I try to work on it whenever I can.

I finished the Ron Jeremy book i was talking about earlier. I do admit that it wasn’t 100% porn and sex, it was definitely a look into someone’s life and times without glorifying it too much. Sure there are moments when Jeremy makes it sound like he’s had a heck of a time, but there are a lot of lonely moments, saddened times, and overall drudge that makes his world not so enviable anymore.

Maybe when I was 15…but as a 25 year old, I’m most certainly glad I’m not Ron Jeremy.

I’ve been slow on the draw in regards to movies this week. I’m actually going out of town later today, so in anticipation of that, I didn’t watch a lot of films this week. Instead, I read my books, and watched the Seattle Mariners lose game after game, even with a flurry of runs in the later innings. Being a sports fan is rough, when your team isn’t exactly the greatest ever. But I’m sticking by them, I’m sure the Mariners can pull it through, they have hundreds of games to go.

So what did I watch?

I watched a few television shows, none that I will mention here until I finish the seasons to write an appropriate review.

I also worked, yep, just worked. I’m growing uneasy about encapsulating my whole purpose at work to try and sell objects. It’s not a taxing job in a lot of ways, but it is definitely not the most pride inducing positions I’ve ever had. I’m definitely far away from paying off my student loans, that’s for sure.

The updates on here are slower than my skateboarding blog, that’s for sure, and my wrestling blog has picked up a little too. I do in fact go around posting on my horror movie blog, and well…this one is not exactly my prime focus these days. With little communication in the comments, and lack of interest in denoting the details of every single movie and book I read, I am starting to grow tired of the formulaic postings.

Then again…i’m diving into more written word than ever, so maybe I will dish out more reviews…but for the next four days, I’m taking a break from the blogging world…at least a little break. We’ll see how the mini-vacation pans out.

I miss working at the video store, I loved being a clerk.

Last year I reviewed 1250 movies through my other movie blogs. After some major fall out with google, time constraints, moving, and a brutal shoulder injury from skateboarding, I consolidated all my sites into two. I have a horror movie review website, and I also have this site.

In an act of desperation, I accidentally deleted ALL my previous reviews from other sites. So in order to recap, instead of watching and writing all new reviews, I present to you, all 6 readers, Fast Movie reviews. These are done dirt cheap, and easy. I’ll also include purchasing options if you’ve been meaning to purchase any of them. I’ll do five at a time, and we’ll work our way through all thousands of movies I’ve seen….and then some.

Trust me…I’ve seen more movies than you can imagine.

Here’s four quick ones for the inaugural run:

Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior – This film is what fight fans have been craving for a long time. The story is basic: someone steals an ancient statue, and its up to one man to get it back. Along the way he has to fight several bad guys, run through town and get chased by all sorts of people.

Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior, ushered in a new fighting style to the big screen and dvd circuit. Action movie fans have grown weary of kung fu cinema, moving once stars to the straight to dvd market. (Segal, Van Damme, and many others) But to refresh the style, Tony Jaa does Thai Kickboxing, and does it so well, you believe that every kick is real.

Is it worthwhile?

YES.

Ong Bak is the real deal and worth checking out and purchasing. It is a breath of fresh air in the realms of action and martial arts cinema, the likes you’ve not seen before. Just don’t look for an academy award winning plot or style. It’s fast paced, easy to watch, and even poetic at times.

Pick up Ong Bak the Thai Warrior on dvd, as it is available now in special formats.

Ravenous – A lot of people missed this one, but I didn’t. This cannibal moving has a distinct style and premise; An isolated Army Base in the heart of the Rocky Mountains receives a distress call from a young man, who turns out to be a cannibal, and slowly starts to eat people!

As the officers begin to start disappearing, it is up to one man to stop him, and if you think you’ve figured it all out, a bear trap wakes you up.
This movie is raw, but is filmed in such a wonderful way. It is not a low budget horror fest, it is paced nicely, well acted, and eerily creepy. A serious film with great tone, and presence, it deserves a second or even first look.

Ravenous is available on dvd and is well worth the price of admission.

Inside Deep Throat – Not everyone is so open minded in this world, and many did not even consider picking up this amazing documentary about the infamous film “Deep Throat”. Sure the story is about a porno movie, but some might argue on behalf of the art in porn, rather than the vile nature of it all.

This film is Rated R, and even the unrated version doesn’t show penetration or anything truly bad.

I’ve seen the movie Deep Throat, and while some are quick to judge the film, others might consider it an interesting movie on all artistic values.

You have to consider that this documentary really digs deep to find information about the era, the movie, the makers, the actors and so much more. It truly is fascinating, but you have to open your mind a little, as it is not a documentary that will be shown in most history classes. Even though this movie tells a lot about the world we live in; past and present.

Inside Deep Throat is available on dvd now, and is worthwhile.

For the bad…

FEED – The movie feed is controversial in many ways. But the biggest draw to the film, is also the greatest negative vantage point you can get in the realm of cinema.

The movie revolves around a serial killer who feeds his victims to death, while running a gambling website where people bet on how fat the victims will get before they die. It is graphic in nature as you are seeing fat women, naked, bound, tied and force fed very fattening food. On the flip side, you also see very graphic masturbation scenes by the main character, and a sub plot that involves a near pornographic love scene between the main detective and what you believe is his girlfriend.

This film is disgusting on many levels, but intriguing in the way it projects a social climate and satire about the world we live in.

Not for everyone, and therefore a bad movie for most, but if you can “stomach” this film, you’re going to see a piece of noir that is not easily found in a lot of movies today.

Feed is available on dvd, and is very sick in many ways; but some people love that. If grindhouse movie theaters existed today, this would be one of the features.

If you’re interested in picking up any of these films, you can do so by clicking on the box art, going to the official sir Jorge amazon store, or your local video store.

For The Netflix fund - For the moment, I’m watching a ton of films, writing reviews and reading books. You can too, and if you order some stuff through my official webstore (powered by amazon) you can get stuff that you already are going to buy, and amazon will tip me a few cents...no pressure, just trying to pay the bills.

Once again, I return to this blog of mine and entertain all 2 of you out there that comment on a regular basis, and all 20 or 30 of you that stumble in here through rss feeds….this time I’m talking about the second of many films that are just complete garbage and unwatchable.

I love bad movies, and I’ve even dedicated a website that deals with b-movie horror, and scary films. You can scope out that dark website of horror or simply ignore it.

The movie I’m talking about this time around is titled “In the Company of Men”. The premise sounded interesting enough, so I picked it out in Netflix and was sorely disappointed with the way things worked out.

The story revolves around two office workers who go out on a trip to develop a start up company and make a pact to seduce an introverted clerk and then dump her on the same day, right before they leave.

Not so bad, I think, but in execution this film is horrible. The characters are usually in one of two sets, and the sets are not even porno worthy! Not even gonzo porn worthy!

Now don’t get me wrong, a low-budget movie is always fun for me, but this is a new low…where dialogue takes the place of setting and action and reaction are just so horrible that you want to sleep.

Cruelty aside, this film is just not worth watching. I’d never recommend this film…but then again…maybe you’re a glutton for punishment.

Here’s a trailer that might be better than the actual film itself:

It’s horrible.

It’s surprising to see one of the actors went on to play Two Face in an upcoming Batman flick that has me re-reading “The Long Halloween”…you should pick that up, and avoid watching this film. Trust me…it is way better.

This weekend instead of going to the movies, I enjoyed a round of live music. My wife’s friend was in town and we all went to a hxc show. It wasn’t all that great….

The bands that played were:

Heroes Amongst Thieves
Radio Suicide
No Bragging Rights
Madison Drive
Moneta

We only stayed for 3 bands, and then left…

The bands sucked. These bands, although trying hard to fill a genre that is heavy, don’t do a very good job at it. I grew up around this type of music and social scene, and it’s gone to crap now. These bands, although at times interesting, carry an overall lack of musical ingenuity and sound.

I’ve been listening to hardcore and punk for 15 years now, and I’ve heard it ALL. I’m not some idiot that is new to musical genre’s, so much so that if I were single I’d be working at a record store, patronizing stupid music buyers that come in the store asking for any cd’s from the above bands…although I’d sell the cd’s to them, but not without giving them a hard time about not knowing their roots….plus most of these bands all sound the same now anyways…and while I hate that excuse, I really hate it when it’s blaringly obvious…

oh well…

I did manage to find out that one of my favorite bands of yesteryear are coming through the same venue, but unfortunately the tickets after fees are $48.75! I used to pay $10 to get into see them…i give up….no wonder older people don’t go to these shows, it’s too expensive.

I didn’t go to the movies this weekend.

I did however get a new book! I’m still working on the last book I’ve been reading “The Freedom Manifesto” but I got a new book, and I’m already half way through it.

It’s a great book, easy to read and follow and offers great insight into the life and times of Ron “The Hedgehog” Jeremy.

At first glance many people will shy away from this book because he talks about having sex with a lot of women…but if you get past the initial stages of his pornographic lifestyle you start to see glimpses of American Sexuality, freedom, religion, and storytelling that transcends average biographical book.

The sociological aspects of this book cement my interest higher than any t & a that could be expected from such subject matter. Ron Jeremy does a fantastic job in illustrating his life so far…since I’ve read half the book already. An easy read, a great subject matter, I recommend this so far…Ron Jeremy might not be the first name that comes to mind to the average person in regards to pornography, but he’s definitely an icon on many different levels. The book is titled Ron Jeremy: The Hardest Working Man in Showbiz and is available for sale everywhere. So far so good, a great read.

This movie hinges on whether or not the characters are cared about, because it is dialogue heavy.

While there are some emotional attachments here and there, the overall story isn’t all that great, but the comic timing and precision line delivery puts this film in great company.

The visuals are stunning, and the comedic relief is fantastic, along side the pacing.

However, the characters seem poorly developed, and the story just doesn’t really fit the overall beauty of the film.

This movie is not that great, but upon a second or third viewing, you might change your mind. Wes Anderson made me love Rushmore and The Life Aquatic, but this time around….it just seems stale.

Here’s the official Trailer…which is a lot better than the film…although not the most popular of opinions.

He usually reviews bad games, bad movies, and overall bad stuff. His jaw is unhinged and completely uncensored, he rants with such amazing passion that it’s really no wonder why he’s getting so popular. What separates him from other online…dare I say…”Youtube” phenoms, is the sheer fact that the production value on all his videos are near professional quality. Sure they are low budget, but the sound and effects are quite nice considering the platform.

Recently the nerd posted a video of The Top 10 Jackie Chan Fight Scenes, and well…these are just amazing. If you can get passed his fowl mouth, you’re going to see a cool top 10 list of Jackie Chan doing what he does best! Here’s the video, enjoy:

I first saw that film when I was 6 years old. I found this old tape in my dad’s underwear drawer (don’t ask) and instead of Porno…it was Jackie Chan in Police Story, a bootleg, but it was awesome. It’s now easily available on dvd worldwide.

What is your favorite martial arts film? Or better yet..Jackie Chan film? Anyone?

Nine Inch Nails once again unleashed free music to the masses today. The result being a lot of noise, a lot of distortion, a lot of….NOISE!

With blurred textures, rising volumes, vocal onslaughts that come in and out, and a signature Nine Inch Nails timing, Trent Reznor follows up the atmospheric Ghosts, with this collection of songs that feels like more of the same.

I’m sure I’ll get blasted for this, but the album, is just not that great.

Yes, You get what you pay for, and in this instance I didn’t pay.

Thankfully.

Nine Inch Nails continues to stay one step ahead of any particular music industry, or even genre at times, however this album is just convoluted, noisy, and just not as good as previous “label” releases.

You can find out for yourself by Downloading the new Nine Inch Nails cd Free.

Or if you’d just rather be entertained on this mere site…then check out the video for “Survivalism” which is somewhat haunting…

If you haven’t seen the first Nolan directed Batman film, you owe it to yourself to get it, own it, watch it, and see how dark the Batman character can be. Batman Begins punches you in the face with good acting, and a deep story…looking past the comical view and setting up what is truly a Dark Knight.

Iron Man might be doing well now, but The Dark Knight will be the crown jewel of what MILLIONS of Batman fans already know…trust me.

Iron Man, the big movie of the weekend, and it did deserve the hype…well most of it.

The movie had an epic scope to it, as it seemed to be longer than the average comic book adaptation.

The acting was superb, and I definitely enjoyed the portrayl of Tony Stark throughout the film, feeling like I was reading the comic book all over again.

Where things fall apart for me, hinges on the villains motives. The villain seems to easily swayed, not really developed, and overall unlike any comic book villain I can remember, regardless of the source material.

The formula in this film was way too easy to follow, and just like Superman, the character just doesn’t fit the scope of reasoning that they could develop in a “non” comic book role.

The movie was ok at best, but I definitely think DC has the edge this year, as The Dark Knight looks like a wortwhile romp into comic book adaptations; Iron Man isn’t lousy, but it’s not worth 100% of the hype.

Everyone in the media and around the city is talking about the upcoming film Iron Man. Sure it looks a little stylized, sure the reviews are starting to come through and most of them positive, but before you decide to think you’re an expert on Iron Man do some reading and at least know a few facts. It’s not hard.

If you ignore everything I else I say, then please at least know just one thing: Ironman’s first appearance was NOT Iron Man #1, it was Tales of Suspense #39…remember that and you’re golden.

One thing that I hate is when someone sees a comic book adaptation and thinks they know all about the characters back story. This happened a lot during the release of Fantastic Four 2, in which a lot of people poked fun at the films “campy” joke direction. My main concern was that no one read the original Fantastic Four comics that the movie was based on. In those old comic books, the direction of the stories were more often than not, laughable.

Even today, with all this comic book mayhem, we are seeing people growing interested in the back story of Tony Stark, and while some people might be quick to judge the film on its own merits, we have seen a long history of the character. For instance:

Black Sabbath’s Iron Man

Lyrics

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
Well just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold

Now the time is here
For iron man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron man lives again!

Interesting huh? Didn’t think Ozzy and the crew knew what was up eh? Well that’s not the only mention of Iron Man in pop culture…

Did you know that he invaded the hip hop scene?

Ghostface Killah, of Wu Tang Clan, released his solo debut way back when and called it “Iron Man”. Ghostface is a huge Iron Man fan, and was even scheduled to be in the new movie, before his scene was cut out. Ghostface Killah and Iron Man fans rejoice, that there is always the extended director’s cut dvd on the horizon after the theatrical run.

I’m not a big fan of the comic book these days.

Why?

Iron Man is responsible for the Death of Captain America! That’s right, Tony Stark, Iron Man, and his stupid policy of revealing the identity of super hero’s in the Civil War storyline, causes the Cap to lose his life…although Tony Stark is sorry and wishes it wouldn’t have happened, he will forever live with the guilt of Cap’s blood on his hands.

So what now?

Sure this wasn’t suppose to be the ultimate faq on Iron Man, it was just a rambling post to bring even more attention to the film…because I think it’s the first worthwhile film to come out on major cinemas in a while.

Here’s a trailer for Iron Man

Sure the movie is not going to top The Dark Knight which promises to shove reality into a surreal world.

If you’re still interested in Iron Man, Comic Books, and reading a little bit into the stories that made the fascinating jump from paper to big screen, I recommend checking out some re-issues or at least some compilation graphic novels that show the original stories in their proper light.

For instance, you should pick up The Essential Iron Man Vol. 1, for an introduction into the Iron Man universe.

If you’re looking ahead to Batman, I highly recommend Absolute Batman: The Long Halloween, which shows the Joker as more than just a clown, and Batman as more than just a trouble soul…plus you’ll get the tie in with the mob from the first film.

Enjoy Iron Man, and expect to see it #1 in the box office, but I truly believe that Batman’s film will over take this initial summer blockbuster.

This weekend I relaxed, if that word exists in my life. I spent some money, I saw some movies, and caught a Seattle Mariners game.

First and foremost, Harold and Kumar 2, a lot of people most likely passed on this stoner film, but not me. I’m a glutton for punishment. I love bad movies, and this one was horrible at times. Seriously, this film is nothing like the first, as it takes itself seriously at times and then they try to forget that the movie is about smoking pot, having sex, and laughing at stereotypical racial humor.

I didn’t like it.

It was ok, but not as good as the first film. I saw the first film with my friend Lump37, maybe I miss Lump, so this film is not the same. Check out the trailer below:

Moving onto non movie things, I bought some new shoes. I haven’t bought shoes in 3 years. The last two pairs of shoes were given to me free of charge, and this year I decided to buy some. My Dustin Dollin vans ripped in an odd location. The heel ripped from the sole, leaving me with a need for a new pair of shoes.

I hate buying new shoes.

The shoes I ended up getting were extremely marked down, and I couldn’t resist the price. They are Circa, AL50 Praying Hands…made for skateboarding, but will most likely be used for walking 4 to 5 miles a day (considering that I don’t make a straight line to work on a daily basis).

I was emailed a 25% off anything at Borders Books. I bought The Freedom Manifesto by Tom Hodgkinson, it looks really interesting. I read a few pages already and it is exactly up my alley. The front page reads,

“How to free yourself from anxiety, fear, mortgages, money, guilt, debt, government, boredom, supermarkets, bills, melancholy, pain, depression, work, and waste”

and you’re thinking it’s a self help book….but it’s not. It’s more of a humorous look into an interesting point of view.

I think it’s a light read, considering I’ve read some heavy books lately. You might want to follow along if you’re interested, if not, watch television or something…seeing as though Television and Film are the leading media formats in todays world.

Apparently books don’t need to be burned, because no one is really interested.

I went to a Mariners game, and the team held on to a 2 run lead until struggling late in the game, only to lose badly.

Ouch.

I almost shaved my head this weekend….I didn’t.

That really sums up my weekend. I have a ton of work to get to starting tomorrow, and I’m not looking forward to it. In the e-commerce world, even if you’re a programmer/web developer your life is run by numbers. I’m sick of that.

When I was growing up, I watched a lot of anime that was dubbed into spanish. I didn’t know that English dubbed anime existed, and non of my friends told me that the cartoons we watched were in fact from Japan. So we watched contently, every morning all summer, never knowing what the real names or shows were, but we were glad that the latino channels were playing things that we enjoyed. (Usually latino television isn’t all that fun in the mornings; except for Plaza Sesamo which is a knockoff of Sesame Street)

Fast forward about 10 years and my friend and I were at Anime Con. We were checking out the tables of pirated dvd’s and vhs and I kept asking people about this soccer anime that i used to watch, and no one knew what it was. I was even made fun of by some more scornful vendors, and eventually I just stopped asking.

Then one day, I was sitting at work, and the show popped into my head, and so I searched the might youtube.com and here it is…a clip from my favorite Spanish Anime (although it is not really spanish, just dubbed with a spanish language track). It’s called Super Campeones, which translated means Super Champions.

That show carried my friends and I into daily battles at the park playing soccer. I wasn’t very good at it, but I would try hard.

Considering that my father was a soccer pro in Mexico, I should have been way better, but instead I was just slow and slow.

The anime is titled “Flash Kicker” and I couldn’t find a dvd or vhs of it, and am not sure if I would love the show now that I’m older. It’s an interesting way to get introduced into Anime, in my opinion, and while I don’t watch as much anime now, I do have fond memories associated with japanese animation.

For instance, did you know that I was the vice president of the Anime club at my high school? I bet you didn’t.

Fun times for sure. It’s nice to see that youtube serves to provide a little nostalgia for a moment or two.

From time to time, people would ask me what movies to watch at the video store…actually a daily occurring trend that had me recommending the greatest and not so greatest movies ever!

However, there were customers that insisted on watching terrible movies.

In fact, I’ve seen a TON of terrible movies.

Some of these films are so bad, that they go into the “Unwatchable Pile”.

Here is one of them.

Goodbye Lover

This film is about a guy who’s sleeping with his brother’s wife, and also is sleeping with his secretary. As the movie progresses he and his mistress (his brothers wife) want to kill off the brother…and the thriller ensues….so they say.

This movie sucks. Don’t watch it, don’t look into it, just take my word for it. Seriously, this film’s first 40 minutes has 4 love scenes, and no nudity. Love scenes are forgivable if there’s gratuitous nudity…especially in horror movies…well maybe only in horror movies.

This movie is bad. The first entry in “The Unwatchable” posts. Volume 1….Goodbye Lover…a stain on the film industry.
