Excited about taking both Shakespeare’s First Folio and a Sherlock Holmes manuscript to Japan to build on their international partnerships, the University turned to video to capture the buzz …

Far from your usual informational video, (which can all too often verge on the dreary side), De Montfort have been eager to reflect their enthusiasm through an equally passionate production. Using inspirational music, interviews with motivated staff members and professional cutting and editing, this video captures perfectly the drama of the trip; something Shakespeare himself might even approve of..

About the Author:

Stephanie Allen is one of <a

As part of UNC Health Care, she noticed the poor parking facilities and came up with a solution; a motorbike.

Realising that she could park a lot easier on campus with a motorbike and no longer had to worry about missing the bus, Barbara suddenly began to love her ride to work. She tells the camera that she came to love it so much that she now goes on joyrides and camping trips across the US in her spare time…but she’s careful to mention the risks.

Perhaps ‘motorbike’ isn’t the first thought that pops into your head when you think ‘nurse’, but UNC are doing their best to show you the real person behind the uniform. With the death of his mother, Scanlan found himself noticing obituaries in the publications he wrote for and within them the word philanthropy; meaning love of one’s fellow human. The author decided then to undertake a year of volunteering at various NGOs and charities worldwide, recording all his experiences in his book.

McMaster University have included Scanlan’s book within their reading program but rather than stick to the traditional book-club type discussions, they have captured their students thoughts and responses on video alongside brief interview footage with the author. What they say is really rather inspiring.

More engaging than your usual discussion, the video is filmed outside in HD and with its chirpy backing music it oozes positivity and optimism. So if you want to find faith in your fellow man, watch the video – who knows, you might then be tempted to read the book and spend a generous year yourself…

Want To Be Spiderman? In their latest video Skip Garibaldi, the University’s Distinguished Professor of Mathematics, discusses the possibility of Spiderman’s skills.

Focusing on the strength and capacity of ‘spider-silk’, Garibaldi enthusiastically discusses whether it could actually be used to swing from buildings or to stop a moving train. The answers are rather interesting, so if you’re intrigued or just loved the film it’s worth a watch.

With fast-paced shots from the movie and thrilling action music at the start, Emory University are careful to quickly capture your attention before delving into the technicalities behind cinema’s current superhero. Slightly geeky yes, but with an exciting, topical subject this video is most definitely a triumph to the University, combining clever mathematics with current cinema.

I wonder what they’ll say about Batman…

About the Author:

Steph Allen is one of <a
